00:00Welcome back to Udine. Your timing is perfect. We're just about to get underway and it's South Korea
00:06playing from right to left in their red strip today. The strip in which we saw them first time
00:11out in this group against Belgium who have got us underway. Anything less remember as we were
00:19saying before the break than a good performance and a win from Uruguay means that this bright
00:24new Uruguay model 1990 is all a bit of an illusion really and it will make it yet more difficult for
00:31this small nation part between the South American giants to hold their heads up. Let's see if it's
00:36an early chance. Indeed there was in the first minute of the game. Uruguay pressing forward
00:42from the start then and they've won themselves a free kick as well. The good break down the left
00:48side by the new man Sergio Martinez and it looked very much as though it was Enzo Francescoli
00:56pouring forward into the box leading from the front the skipper who could have put his team
01:00on the score sheet in the first minute. De Leon's free kick and Choi In-young coming
01:06and missing. Still they can't clear it.
01:09Ostelaus have battled out of it but gets it back.
01:17Gutierrez forward. Park In-young with the clearing head it didn't go very far but he's helped out.
01:25Gutierrez again in quickly.
01:30Francescoli
01:31and Gutierrez once more. So Uruguay laying early siege to this South Korean goal.
01:44Well won or was it well won by Choi Kang-hee.
01:48Lai Hyong-sing is over the ball. Six or seven in the wall.
01:54So they've been doing their homework. Same move good try too and Alves
01:59was at full stretch. Lovely move again from a free kick by the South Korean.
02:06Here it comes again and it may well have been the goal scorer against Spain.
02:09Hwang Bo-kwan in the early second half of the game.
02:13Here it comes again and it may well have been the goal scorer against Spain. Hwang Bo-kwan in the
02:17early evening here. Against South Korea finding space down the right side is a lovely cross as
02:23well from Park Kyung-yoon. Now a bit of misunderstanding and it's three on three on two
02:34here. Early chance for Uruguay once more. Good save by Choi In-young and maybe Martinez will feel he
02:41should have done better with that. Now Kim Ju-sung stopped forcibly by Herrera. Here's the break
02:50Francescoli in the middle of it as usual for Uruguay and Martinez with his first chance to
02:56impress young weight. Almost as many Uruguayans in the wall as South Koreans at the moment.
03:03Three and one just to the right of the wall. Let's see what happens. It's high,
03:10too high and the keepers seem to be reading it rather nicely as well.
03:16It's all quite clear in that wall there. The tallest man on the widest position of the wall
03:21as a group. There it is just curving over as a group the Koreans here and it's all getting
03:27very ragged as far as the Uruguayans are concerned. Ruben Paz who's one of those class players
03:33that we were talking about who seems to be rather frustrated today so far.
03:43Nice cross from Lee Young-sil. Chance here.
03:46Oh it dropped beautifully for Choi Soon-ho. They couldn't get to him fast enough
03:54and let's see just how good a chance it was. Excellent fast driven cross.
03:58They tend to whack the balls in, really drive them fiercely across the box rather than stand
04:02them up and as that ball is headed down he takes his chance quickly and early and doesn't quite
04:07get over the ball enough to keep it down. And looks a very rangy classy kind of footballer
04:14who gets us going again. Halftime is upon us and it's a very bad story as far as Uruguay are
04:20concerned because as we see confirmation of Ruben Paz and his booking. It's the 99th booking of this
04:28World Cup. There have been three so far in this game. No goals to report and it's very good news
04:34that South Korea battle for pride in this World Cup for Uruguay. Not only is there shame in not
04:40beating South Korea but there's a probable early exit from the World Cup. Oscar Washington to
04:46Bares. One wonders. David Bleak watching with me once again. Pleasure to have you with me.
04:50One wonders what a manager in his situation will say at halftime David. Well the only thing I can
04:54be sure of Paul is that he said to his players get out there on the pitch early. You haven't
04:59performed. You undersold yourselves in this first half. Uruguay expects you to do better.
05:07You're in charge. You're in possession of the shirt. You better go out and do it. Now get out
05:11there on the field and wait for them and roll your sleeves off. And indeed they were out on the field
05:16a good minute and a half before the Koreans appeared. And let's hope they have rolled up
05:21the sleeves because so far they've held themselves short. And they have 45 minutes to rescue their
05:28World Cup campaign. Dominguez with the throw in. Uruguay apparently intent on getting on with it.
05:35Dominguez once more. Nice reverse pass from Osteleza.
05:40And a corner throw in. Correction. My apologies. Throw in for Uruguay.
06:00Francescoli. Can he drift into space in the box? This is where he's so strong.
06:04Committing defenders and whipping the ball away. Just like that. Great ball in two. Early chance.
06:09Fortune favour South Korea. Second time Uruguay have hit the post. The keeper was nowhere then.
06:22And it was Carlos Aguilera we reckon who's been a substitute at halftime. Here he is. His first
06:27touch of the ball and it just stays the right side. Brilliant stuff from Francescoli in the box.
06:34Aguilera did it all right. Giving as good as they're getting in every sense of this match.
06:41Temperance are beginning to get a little afraid.
06:47Kim Joo-sung. Hwang Bo-kwang. There's the reverse. Extra man Choi Soon-ho made the run.
06:55Still a chance. Still a chance. It just wouldn't go in.
06:59And at the end of it all it was the substitute Hwang Seong-hwang
07:04who will feel perhaps that he should have done better. David what do you think?
07:07Well it's good quick play. Made a great overlap there before knocking that ball in early.
07:12And then there you see. Very close. A shade unlucky. And once again like the first half we've had a good start.
07:29Now maybe something better for Uruguay. Martinez. Francescoli missed it or left it
07:37perhaps more correctly. Long-range shooting chance. It was a good one too.
07:42Keeper was there it seemed but it was a lovely try nonetheless from Gutierrez who's one defender
07:47who does get forward very very well. Remember him coming close against Belgium as Uruguay
07:53went down in that game. He's got hold of that. But always maybe going just a little high.
08:03The telling factor is this World Cup. It's level on offside. It's level on goal.
08:11Now a bit of a delay here. And another yellow card. Oh but this turns the game.
08:20Yoon Duk-hyo is going off.
08:26The referee is adamant. The player cannot believe it. We may have a crucial moment here.
08:35A crucial moment here. He's gone off.
08:46Incredible. He just simply cannot believe it. It may of course be a mistake on the part of the referee. We don't know yet but does he think that he's booked him already?
08:58Just looking at my record he hasn't been booked but he's gone off now. Was it simply for time wasting?
09:04We'll have to wait and find out after the game. South Korea down to 10 men.
09:12Can the 10 men do as well as the 11 we're doing? There's no way looking at our eyes that we can
09:18support that sending on fresh legs. Are the order of the day now for South Korea.
09:27If you can't have 11 fit men the next best thing is to have 10 fit men.
09:30What can Uruguay do about this?
09:40Everybody wait.
09:43And Choi In-yong need not have waited. Fonseca's free kick
09:47is greeted as you can hear by the Uruguayans who are now starting to stare elimination in the face.
09:53Here's an attack developing now with a shot. Brilliant save by Choi In-yong.
09:59Brilliant save by Choi In-yong.
10:03And once more South Korea hold out.
10:11Here's the chance again understand that it couldn't be better for you at home because
10:16you had one or two problems just with the picture for a second and as you're away with us
10:20as you're back with us now you see the chance that you may have missed first time around.
10:24You've missed nothing though I can assure you. South Korea still hold on. Uruguay pressing forward.
10:32Keeper came and collected.
10:37Gutierrez was closing in but too late and it may just start to be too late for Uruguay.
10:47Unlike the Brazilians and the Italians they don't support their wide players.
10:51When they play it wide they say there's the ball you get on with it. They don't go around the back
10:55of him and make that extra man. Maybe we have high expectations of the Uruguayans but sadly
11:02today anyway they've let us down. Time just about still on their side though.
11:09Oh can you believe it?
11:16Uruguay may have got out of jail. No offside the goal will count and it's Fonseca
11:25how cruel this business can be and you can hear what the crowd think about it
11:31and you can see what the Uruguayan team officials think about it. They've stolen this
11:39with a goal right at the very death
11:44and the Italians in the crowd have sympathy for these people. South Korea's brave effort
11:52is probably going to go unrewarded now. Defender misses header Fonseca with a free header at last
11:58hits the target. Pure concentration. One minute one second hesitation David
12:13and a very close thing for offside too. A very close thing for offside but you can't give anybody
12:19space in that penalty box. What a punishment. What a punishment indeed. We hesitated because
12:26we thought it could be offside but the goal stands
12:34in a game which is going to be remembered in Udine.
12:40It was a battle and an honorable battle. Uruguay did not descend
12:44to the tactics we saw from them four years ago and that we need to state at the beginning but
12:48you can see how late the goal has come. Two minutes of injury time played
12:54and South Korea will probably be going home pointless once more in the World Cup.
13:10Martinez to Aguilera. It's all over.
13:16It's all over.
13:20What a story here. The 10 men from South Korea
13:27were within seconds of a piece of football history and Uruguay who have flattered totally to deceive
13:36through the early stages of this World Cup will in all probability live on and we hope for their
13:43sake that their composure will be increased on the basis of a result which seemed unlikely in
13:49the extreme but Uruguay have got out of jail in the most dramatic manner possible and for the
13:57South Koreans there's only friendship and memories of high spirits as they take an exit from Italia.
