00:00The Department of Agriculture is positive that the ASF vaccines used in the controlled vaccination are safe and effective.

00:07According to the DA, there was no problem with the 28 pigs vaccinated in Lobo, Batangas.

00:13This is Clayzel Pardilla with the report.

00:18On August 13, the Department of Agriculture started the vaccination against African Swine Fever.

00:25In a farm in Marangay Malapad in Lobo, Batangas, 12 pigs were vaccinated by the ASF vaccine.

00:32But after a few days, 5 of the vaccinated pigs died.

00:37The pigs, although negative in the ASF blood test, because that is our policy, showed a respiratory problem.

00:48This means that the pigs' body is already compromised.

00:53It is called Meprae morbidity.

00:57The pigs have not yet built up antibodies.

01:02Five days, six days, seven days, the pigs died.

01:07And the infection pressure is very high.

01:10According to the DA, 7 to 14 days before the 40% immune system response against ASF was vaccinated,

01:2028 days are needed to build up antibodies and have up to 75% resistance to ASF.

01:30The DA believes that the ASF vaccine remains safe and effective, which is used in the controlled vaccination of the agency.

01:39In another hog farm in the same barangay that has strict biosecurity,

01:43the 20 pigs that were vaccinated had no problem.

01:47All are apparently healthy, no deaths, no morbidity, which means there is no weakness.

01:54Let's not make a knee-jerk reaction to the five pigs.

01:59Let the pigs talk to me.

02:01So I will reiterate, I'm still confident that the vaccine will work.

02:07The DA is closely monitoring the vaccinated.

02:10The controlled vaccination trial against ASF will be extended from Lobo, Batangas.

02:16The DA's target is also the pigs in the Red Zone, La Union, Quezon, and Mindoro.

02:23The pigs in North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Cebu will also be vaccinated.

02:28150,000 doses of the vaccine from Vietnam will be administered in the affected areas.

02:34According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco T. Laurel Jr.,

02:38the controlled vaccination program will be extended to protect the pigs against ASF

02:43to increase supply and lower the price in the market.

02:48The DA is trying to speed up the study of the entry of other brands of the ASF vaccine from the United States,

02:55Vietnam, South Korea, and Thailand for fatteners and breeders.

03:01For now, the vaccine against ASF is only for growers or big pigs.

03:07If proven to be safe and effective,

03:10the Food and Drug Administration will issue a Certificate of Product Registration

03:15so that it can enter the country.

03:17Php 350 million was allocated for the purchase of 600,000 doses of the ASF vaccine.

03:24ASF has an active case in 470 barangays in the Philippines.
