The ongoing disaster caused by typhoon Yagi which hit northern Vietnam just days ago, has left devastation in its wake. Officials report at least 197 people dead and 128 missing. The storm forced over 50,000 people to evacuate as floods and landslides destroyed thousands of homes. The entire nation is now mobilizing in a joint effort, from all over Vietnam providing aid and support to those affected. Genie Hoai Tram had a full report for us on scene.

00:00Especially Vietnamese people is praying for the rain to stop and the flood to deseed.
00:06Meanwhile, we are not just sitting and waiting.
00:09Rescue forces, organization and individual supporters are doing the best they can to
00:14assist people in the areas affected by Yagi Typhoon.
00:19In response to disaster, Vietnam has launched a massive rescue and relief operation.
00:25Over 438,000 personals including soldiers, disaster response experts and volunteers are
00:31currently on the ground.
00:33Teams are working around the clock to locate those still missing, while medical units are
00:38attending to hundreds of injured survivors.
00:41The rescue forces in Hanoi have been very proactive since the storm arrival.
00:47On the first day, I think it was about Saturday, they were quick to respond to report all the
00:53fallen trees, the flooded streets and they've been working around the clock to clear that
00:59the roadway, repair power lines and help evacuate people from areas most at risk.
01:07And we have the notification on Salo, on SMS for the people, allow that is we need to stay
01:16at home before the storm is coming.
01:19So in more severely affected province closer to the coast, rescue teams have been even
01:25more active, because on the Saturday, the storm, the Yagi Typhoon come first in Quang
01:34Ninh province and also in Hai Phong city.
01:38So conducting both rescue and providing shelter to displaced families.
01:44The powerful storm hit the northern provinces just days ago, causing widespread destruction.
01:50Vietnamese people across the country are closely following updates on the typhoon, ready to
01:56take action in support of citizens in the affected areas.

02:07to fundraising efforts.
02:10My colleagues and I have joined in a fundraising activity.
02:14I think it's heartwarming to see everyone is contributing because I think it's really
02:19important for people to come together in times like this because we are a part of a larger community.
02:25As rescued efforts continue, authorities are urging the public to remain cautious as heavy
02:31rains could continue to trigger further landslides and floods.
02:34Recovery will be a long and difficult process, but with the support from local and international
02:39organizations, Vietnam is determined to overcome this.
