PT Pertamina Patra Niaga collaborated with PT Sayap Garuda Indah and Bell Textron Incorporated, to test the first sustainable aviation-fuel powered helicopter in Indonesia. This was done, as the country commits to reduce carbon footprint from the aviation industry. But what is sustainable aviation fuel? To know more, let's have a look at the following story.

00:00As you can see behind me, this is the first helicopter in Indonesia flying with the sustainable aviation fuel.
00:10So right now, the helicopter is testing how the engine works by using the sustainable aviation fuel.
00:21PT Pertamina Pataniaga collaborated with PT Sayap Gauda Indonesia and Beltexan Incorporated to use the sustainable aviation fuel.
00:29Her SAF on the helicopter for the first time.
00:32This was done during the Bali International Airshow at the General Aviation Terminal of the E Gusti Ngarai Airport in Bali on September 19th.
00:40This collaboration aims to strengthen the commitment of all parties involved in creating a sustainable aviation industry by reducing carbon footprint.
00:49PT Sayap Gauda Indonesia CEO Fensual Saath responded positively to the collaboration.
00:55He also stated that implementation of SAF requires support from all parties since it is quite expensive.
01:04It cannot be up to one entity to do it on their own.
01:08The reason we're showing this collaboration is because it's quite expensive to do sustainable fuels.
01:13And in order to make it manageable, it can't just be one operator.
01:20This sustainable aviation fuel is made from used cooking oil and is claimed to reduce carbon emission by 84%.
01:28This fuel was utilized to fly the Bell 407 helicopter during the Bali International Airshow.
01:34This shows the country's capability of achieving net zero emission by 2060.
01:41And to know more about this sustainable aviation fuel, we'll have a talk with the vice president of aviation fuel business of Pertamina, Patraniaga, Bapak Yosep Iswaldi.
01:51Hello, Pak Yosep, how are you?
01:53I'm good, thank you.
01:55Okay, Pak, we will talk more about this sustainable aviation fuel.
01:59Is it 100% of the used cooking oil or maybe blended with the traditional fuel?
02:05It consists of the conventional jet A1 and plus the feedstock.
02:13We have various feedstock like crude palm oil, used cooking oil, and others.
02:19So it's combined between conventional jet A1 and also the feedstock.
02:28Right, so other than the helicopter, we know that Virgin Australia Airlines and also CityLink purchased the sustainable aviation fuel here in the Bali International Airshow.
02:40So could you please tell me more about this?
02:42Yeah, besides helicopter, CityLink and Virgin Australia has purchased our sustainable aviation fuel in Bali Airshow.
02:53And we appreciate for their collaboration to reduce carbon emission, especially here in Bali Airshow.
03:04Are there any parties who showed their interest to purchase this sustainable aviation fuel?
03:10Yeah, right now we approach and discuss with other airlines also.
03:14And they have interest to buy the SAF, especially in Indonesia.
03:21Domestic airlines like Garuda, Lion, Pelita has interest to buy SAF also.
03:30So we know that Singapore sets a target to achieve 1% usage of the sustainable aviation fuel.
03:37So how about Indonesia?
03:39Yeah, right now Indonesia has a roadmap to make SAF implementation 1% in 2027 and up to 2.5% in 2030.
03:59How big is the potential of Indonesia as the producers of sustainable aviation fuel?
04:04One of our refinery, Pertamina Refinery, has produced SAF.
04:09And we can produce in large amount so we can supply all of demand in regional area.
04:18So because the components of the sustainable aviation fuel consisted of the used cooking oils,
04:25is it possible that maybe in the future people can contribute in the making of sustainable aviation fuel
04:32by maybe sending their used cooking oil to Pertamina?
04:35Yeah, of course. Right now we develop the collection point of used cooking oil
04:45and also storage point to deliver it to our refinery and then produce to become SAF.
04:54Thank you so much for your time.
04:57Okay, so that is like a short talk, a short discussion about the sustainable aviation fuel
05:02with the fast precedent aviation fuel business of Pertamina, Patra, Niaga.
05:07And we hope that this fuel can be one of the solution to reduce the carbon emission created by the aircraft.
