00:00Hi kids! Have you ever looked at the mirror and wondered how you are able to see yourself?
00:07Or how about when you sit down to eat dinner?
00:11Have you ever wondered how you are able to smell the delicious food that your mom has cooked for you?
00:17You can see yourself and smell the food on your plate because of your senses.
00:24Your senses are your body's way of learning about the world.
00:28How? It helps you feel your surroundings.
00:33And you know what else? Seeing and smelling aren't your only senses.
00:38You also have ears to hear, your tongue to taste, and skin to touch.
00:44Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching are senses.
00:51Your eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and skin, on the other hand, are your body parts that let you use your senses.
01:00All in all, you have 5 senses and 5 organs to help you with those senses.
01:05What are those 5 body parts and 5 senses again?
01:09Your eyes to see, your ears to hear, your nose to smell, your tongue to taste, and your skin to touch.
01:21What is amazing about our senses is that even if we think we're not using them, they're still working.
01:28For example, you're walking down a sidewalk.
01:32All of a sudden, someone yells in surprise because they accidentally dropped their burger.
01:39When that person yelled, you turned to him in surprise. Why?
01:45Because even if you're not really listening to anything while you were walking, your ears were still working.
01:53And they were able to quickly pick up the sound of the yell.
01:58That's also one good use of senses.
02:01They help us become alert of our surroundings.
02:06Our eyes have many parts. These are the eyebrows.
02:11When our faces make expressions, our eyebrows make our happy faces even more happier, especially our surprise faces.
02:20These are the eyelids. It is like the cover for our eyes.
02:24It helps keep our eyes clean.
02:27Whenever it closes, it cleans out the ice like wipers on a car window.
02:32It cleans out any dust or dirt.
02:35These small hairs here are called eyelashes.
02:38They help the eyelids brush the dirt out of the eyes.
02:43Our ears help us hear. They collect sounds that reach us.
02:49The ear, like the eye and the other senses, have smaller parts that help make it work.
02:55The outer ear is everything we can see. It's the one that catches and collects the sounds around us.
03:02The inner ear has tiny nerves to help us feel.
03:06And since it is connected to the inside of our head, it also has the liquid that helps protect our brains.
03:13We can't see this part anymore.
03:16The eardrum is extra special. It is inside our ears.
03:21It vibrates when the sound comes in and sends them to our brains.
03:29We can smell because of our nose. It can tell us if it smells good or bad.
03:34The holes in our noses are called nostrils.
03:38The smell enters through them and travels through what is called the nasal passage, a hallway inside the nose.
03:46The nasal cavity is a small space behind your nose.
03:50It's the end of the hallway of the inside of your nose.
03:54The tongue lets us taste different kinds of food.
03:58But it also helps in chewing and swallowing our food.
04:01The tongue has nerves that send the taste we get from food to the brain.
04:07Then the brain will know whether we are eating something hot, cold, sweet, bitter, sour, or salty.
04:18Lastly, our skin can feel things.
04:21It can feel the temperature or whether something is cold or hot,
04:26the texture of an object, if it feels smooth, soft, or rough,
04:31how heavy or light something is, and whether or not something is causing us pain.
04:37Like all the others, our skin has parts that help make it work.
04:41It has nerves that help us with the feeling.
04:44It also has hair that can protect us from the cold
04:47and pores that help us sweat so we can cool down when we get exhausted.
04:52Our skin can also come in different colors, all of them beautiful.
04:57To recap, we have five senses that help us learn the world around us.
05:02We also have five body parts that allow for our senses to work.
05:07These are our eyes for seeing,
05:10our nose for smelling,
05:12our ears for hearing,
05:15our tongue for tasting,
05:17and our skin for feeling.
05:20Each body part has its own smaller parts that help make them work the way they do.
05:25Amazing, right?
05:27All of our senses work together so that we can experience the beautiful world around us.
05:33It's quiz time!
05:36Which sense do we use when we want to do these activities?
05:41Hug something soft.
05:44Yes! We use our skin to feel the soft teddy bear as we hug it when we sleep.
