00:20Treaty, ALBA-TCP, rejects coup attempt in
00:23progress against Colombia President
00:24Gustavo Pedro. And the World Health
00:30Organization warns that at least 25
00:32percent of wounded Palestinians
00:34require rehabilitation services.
00:36Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm
00:43Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in
00:45Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:47Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro
00:49decorated several members of the
00:51Bolivarian army with a medal in honor of
00:54their strength and bravery. From the
00:56José Avalos National Education Unit, the
00:58President highlighted that this
01:00decoration is given by the Venezuelan
01:03people that is certain that their army
01:05will never surrender. The Bolivarian
01:07leader highlighted the brave attitude of
01:09the armed forces for their actions in
01:12the face of threats and sanctions. In the
01:15event, the President referred to the
01:17hostile actions of the United States
01:19and assured they will never be able to
01:21deter the course of the Bolivarian
01:24Revolution. In Venezuela, the Minister of
01:31Foreign Affairs, Iván Gil, summoned the
01:33Ambassador of Spain in the country,
01:35RamĂłn Santos, to express the government's
01:37firm stance in the face of any
01:39interference. During an official
01:41communique, Gil assured the Ministry of
01:43Foreign Affairs, summoned Ambassador
01:45Santos to express the strong position of
01:48the Venezuelan government, which will not
01:50allow any interference by the government
01:52of Spain in matters that are the
01:54exclusive competence of Venezuelan men
01:57and women. The Venezuelan government will
01:59adopt the necessary measures within the
02:01framework of the international law and
02:03the Bolivarian diplomacy of peace to
02:05protect its sovereignty. The Bolivarian
02:13National Armed Forces of Venezuela
02:15rejected the recent imposition of
02:17unilateral coercive measures by the
02:19United States on high-ranking Venezuelan
02:21officials. In response to the recent
02:23coercive measures, the Minister of
02:25Defense warned that the Bolivarian
02:27Armed Forces are unbreakable and will
02:29continue defending the democracy in
02:31Venezuela. In this sense, Padrino LĂłpez
02:34asserted that the members of the
02:35Ministry will remain faithful to the
02:37Venezuelan sovereignty. The Defense
02:39Minister assured that the agents of the
02:42Bolivarian National Armed Forces have
02:44no price and will remain united and
02:47on alert to defend the sovereignty. The
02:54Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela
02:55rejected the sanctions imposed against
02:58national government officials by the
03:00United States. On Friday, Washington
03:02sanctioned 16 officials, among them five
03:04magistrates of the Supreme Court and
03:06rectors of the National Electoral
03:08Council for allegedly obstructing the
03:10presidential voting process of July 28.
03:13In response, the president of the Supreme
03:15Court of Justice, Carizlia RodrĂguez,
03:17pointed out that this practice collides
03:19with the accepted principles of
03:21international law on self-determination
03:24and democracy. Furthermore, the president
03:27of the High Court reaffirmed that the
03:29entity has always been a promoter of
03:31peace in the country, whose decisions
03:33have been backed by the national legal
03:35system in order to warranty the
03:37tranquility of the nation. The president
03:44of the Supreme Court of Justice of
03:46Venezuela, Carizlia Beatriz RodrĂguez,
03:48offered statements in rejection of the
03:50sanctions imposed by the Office of
03:52Foreign Assets Control of the U.S.
03:54Treasury Department against Venezuelan
03:56individuals. The Supreme Court of
04:01Justice of the Bolivarian Republic of
04:03Venezuela, on behalf of the entire
04:05judiciary, once again repudiates the
04:10interfering action of the United States
04:12of America in the internal affairs of
04:14the republic by imposing unilateral and
04:20illegitimate and illegal coercive
04:23measures on 16 Venezuelan officials,
04:25among which are the magistrates
04:28Carizlia Beatriz RodrĂguez RodrĂguez,
04:30Fanny Beatriz Márquez Cordero, Inocencio
04:34Antonio Figueroa, Malakia Gil RodrĂguez,
04:37and Juan Carlos Hidalgo Pandare, as well
04:40as Judge Eduardo Miguel Bristeño
04:43Cisneros. The National Electoral
04:48Council of Venezuela issued a statement
04:50to repudiate the act of interference
04:53committed by the government of the
04:54United States of America, as it tries to
04:56point out and intimidate a group of
04:58Venezuelan public servants through
05:00illegal unilateral coercive measures.
05:02According to the statement, the electoral
05:04power of the Bolivarian Republic of
05:06Venezuela repudiates the infamous act of
05:09interference committed by the government
05:11of the United States of America, with
05:13which it is trying to point out and
05:15intimidate a group of Venezuelan public
05:17servants through illegal unilateral
05:19coercive measures promoted by criminal
05:21groups linked to terrorism, drug
05:23trafficking, and other crimes, who have
05:26allied with you and other corrupt
05:28structures to finance operations against
05:30the Venezuelan electoral system and its
05:32members. Later on, the electoral
05:34authorities stated that the United
05:36States of America has one of the most
05:38pathetic and obsolete electoral systems
05:40on the planet. For this reason, the U.S.
05:43government lacks the moral authority to
05:45evaluate and give its opinion on
05:46electoral issues, much less in Venezuela,
05:49where there is an electoral system with
05:51the highest global standards. Attempting
05:53to blackmail the members of the National
05:55Electoral Council is a crude maneuver
05:57that has failed before. No illegal
06:00sanction against the institution has
06:02distanced it from its constitutional
06:05mandate. The Venezuelan electoral power is
06:07today firm, united, and stronger than
06:09ever. Finally, the communique ended by
06:12demanding that the government of the
06:13United States not to get involved in the
06:16internal affairs of the Venezuelan
06:17electoral power, and we urge it to
06:20dedicate itself to attend to the
06:22internal affairs of its country, and ended
06:24by reminding that Venezuela is a
06:26sovereign country that only obeys the
06:29will of the people of the Bolivarian
06:31Republic of Venezuela.
06:34The National Assembly of Venezuela
06:40condemned and rejected, through an
06:42official statement, the unilateral and
06:44coercive measures against Venezuelan
06:46individuals by the United States
06:47government. According to the statement,
06:49the National Assembly of the Bolivarian
06:51Republic of Venezuela condemns and
06:53rejects in the strongest terms the
06:55continuous and permanent aggression by
06:57the supremacist government of the United
06:59States of America, this time by imposing
07:02unilateral coercive measures against
07:04dignified and courageous Venezuelan
07:06public servants, such as the first
07:08vice-president of the National Assembly,
07:10Deputy Pedro Infante. It follows by
07:12stating, we express our deep solidarity
07:14with the decent Venezuelans who were
07:17attacked by this new and illegitimate
07:20action of the imperialist hegemony
07:22against our homeland and our
07:23institutions, and we tell the decadent
07:26United States of American Empire and
07:28its European satellites that no
07:30unilateral coercive measures will stop
07:32the libertarian and independentist path
07:34the Venezuelan people have chosen. The
07:37communique closes by declaring that the
07:39National Assembly demands full respect
07:42for the institutionalism of the country,
07:44and we reiterate before the world that
07:46more than 200 years ago, we ceased to be
07:49a colony thanks to the will and struggle
07:51of our people, and therefore do not
07:53accept nor will accept the interference
07:56of foreign powers in our internal
07:58affairs, nor any neo-colonial
08:00subordination. On Friday, the Bolivarian
08:09Alliance for the Peoples of our America
08:11People's Trade Treaty, ALBA-TCP, released
08:13a statement condemning the new
08:15unilateral coercive measures imposed by
08:17the US government on Venezuelan citizens.
08:19According to the communique, the member
08:21states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the
08:23Peoples of our America's People's Trade
08:25Treaty, ALBA-TCP, categorically reject
08:28the new imposition of unilateral
08:30coercive measures by the government of
08:32the United States on Venezuelan
08:33nationals. It follows, today Venezuela has
08:3616 nationals unilaterally sanctioned for
08:40the simple fact of fulfilling their
08:41duties and, basically, for being
08:43Venezuelans and not acting to benefit a
08:45Venezuelan political sector, which is
08:48well known for being extremist and
08:49fascist, and has always claimed to be in
08:52favor of interventionism and the
08:54violation of international law, rather
08:56than assuming its defeat. The statement
08:59emphasizes these measures not only
09:01attack the 16 sanctioned individuals,
09:03this criminal and illegal practice of
09:06the US government against states that did
09:08not work in favor of its interests,
09:10alters the economic and political
09:12stability of this country and the entire
09:14region. Finally, the communique states,
09:17ALBA-TCP strongly repudiates this new
09:20attack against public officials, their
09:22human and civil rights, and the
09:24Venezuelan nation in general, which
09:26threatens the peace and tranquility of
09:28all Latin America and the Caribbean and
09:30calls on regional governments to reject
09:32these measures and to promote diplomacy
09:34and respect for the self-determination
09:36of peoples, and closes by emphasizing
09:39that the Bolivarian alliance demands
09:41respect for the sovereignty of the
09:44three peoples of our America and the
09:46Caribbean and reaffirms its
09:47unrestricted support and solidarity with
09:50the people and government of the
09:52Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

10:21Welcome back. In Colombia, President
10:24Gustavo Petro denounced that a coup
10:26d'etat is being plotted against his
10:27government. The president noted that the
10:30allegations against him are a reflection
10:32of a coup d'etat that is being plotted
10:34by illegitimate administrative entities.
10:36Petro is being accused of allegedly
10:38having surpassed the expenditure
10:40savings in the electoral campaign that
10:42led him to office. Petro stated that the
10:45target of such claim is to remove him
10:48from power by means of an assassination
10:50or a political destitution in the next
10:52three months and replace him with the
10:54president of the Senate, Efrain Zapea.
10:56In this way, he denounced that there are
10:59economic interests to produce a
11:01political process of destitution of the
11:03legitimate president of the country.
11:09The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples
11:12of our America, People's Trade Treaty,
11:13ALBA-TCP, issued on Friday an official
11:16communique regarding the recent warning
11:18made by Colombian President Gustavo
11:20Petro about a coup d'etat and magnacide
11:22attempt in progress against him. The
11:25document read on videoconference by the
11:27bloc's Secretary Jorge Arreaza expressed
11:29the group's concern about the Colombian
11:31president's allegations and reminded that
11:34Latin America and the Caribbean have
11:35been during the present year a scenario
11:38of multiple destabilization attempts
11:40and continued attacks on the
11:42institutions of several countries and of
11:44direct threats against democratically
11:46elected political leaders. Arreaza
11:48highlighted the group's conviction that
11:50all these cases were connected, so urged
11:53the international community about a
11:55planned strategy carried out by internal
11:58and external powers that be the
12:00objective to undermine peace in the
12:02region. The text warned that the
12:04Colombian president has been the target
12:06of aggressions since he took office to
12:08prevent him from carrying out his
12:10sovereign and progressive project. The
12:13bloc's member states stressed that they
12:15will continue to follow up closely the
12:17development of these events and express
12:19their hope that the Colombian people
12:21led by their president will manage to
12:23neutralize these actions and warranty
12:25peace in that country.
12:31Army General and leader of the Cuban
12:34Revolution RaĂşl Castro and Cuba's
12:36President Miguel DĂaz-Canel sent Friday
12:38their congratulations to Nicaragua's
12:40President and Vice President Daniel
12:41Ortega and Rosario Murillo respectively
12:43on occasion of the 203rd anniversary of
12:46Nicaragua's independence from the
12:48Spanish colonialism. The message was sent
12:50in an official letter where the Cuban
12:52leaders said that the independence of
12:54the sister nation opened a long road of
12:56struggles by the Nicaraguan people which
12:59was consolidated with the Sandinista
13:01Revolution. Castro and DĂaz-Canel also
13:03expressed their all-out support and
13:05solidarity to the Sandinista Revolution
13:07and affirmed their conviction that the
13:09Nicaraguan people will continue
13:11advancing towards Latin American unity.
13:16The President of Argentina Javier Milley
13:21faces two defeats after the Senate
13:23approved the university budget and
13:25rejected the decree that granted
13:26resources to the Secretariat of
13:28Intelligence. Argentina's Congress
13:30rejected for the first time in history a
13:32decree with 49 votes and two abstentions.
13:35Meanwhile the university budget law was
13:37approved with 57 of the votes and
13:40includes an increase for teachers and
13:42non-teachers. In that sense the text
13:44establishes that the executive power
13:46will have to update the amount of the
13:48operating expenses of the national
13:50universities by the consumer price index.
13:56In the United States Boeing aerospace
13:59workers go on strike after negotiations
14:02over labor demands failed. The protest
14:04follows the workers' rejection of a
14:06contract proposal that would rise their
14:08salaries by 25% over four years. The
14:12proposal was rejected by more than 94%
14:14of the employees which is why they
14:17decided to go on strike. Nearly 33,000
14:20Boeing engineers mostly from the
14:22Washington headquarters participate in
14:24the strike affecting the production of
14:26the C-737 MAX 777 commercial aircraft
14:31and the 767 cargo plane.
14:42Bolivian president Luis Arce is planning
14:54actions to control the wildfires
14:56affecting the department of Santa Cruz
14:58in the eastern tropical lowlands of the
15:01country. According to the nation's civil
15:03defense the president team is organizing
15:05what needs to be done to fight the fires
15:07and for the reconstruction of the
15:09affected areas. The Bolivian president
15:12and his group moved to the city of Santa
15:14Cruz on Thursday to lead and cite the
15:16emergency actions to control the blaze.
15:18Government institutions are currently
15:21resorting to cloud seeding as part of
15:24the contingency activities.

16:00Welcome back. The government of China
16:02rejects German provocations in view of
16:05the incursion of two German ships
16:07through the Taiwan Strait. Chinese
16:09foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning
16:11indicated that Beijing rejects the
16:14German government's actions under the
16:16pretext of freedom of navigation.
16:18Meanwhile the German defense minister
16:20Boris Pistorius pointed out that the
16:23Taiwan Strait is the shortest and
16:24safest route for German ships and
16:27indicated that they are international
16:29waters through which they will pass
16:31despite the warnings. Mao Ning assured
16:33that China respects the navigation
16:35rights of all countries according to
16:37international law but firmly rejects
16:39actions that endanger the sovereignty of
16:42the Asian giant. The Chinese government
16:48tries the retirement age for the first
16:50time in 70 years following a declining
16:53birth rate and amid an aging workforce.
16:55The standing committee of the Chinese
16:57National People's Assembly indicated
16:59that the measure will take effect as of
17:02January 1st 2025 and will be implemented
17:05for 15 years. The entity indicated that
17:08the retirement age for men will be 63
17:11years old and for women from 55 to 58
17:14years old depending on the work they do.
17:16It also detailed that the change in
17:19retirement will be progressive depending
17:21on the date of birth of the individuals.
17:28The first troops from Jamaica and Belize
17:30for the multinational security support
17:33MSS mission arrived in Port-au-Prince on
17:35Thursday and on Friday to join the 400
17:38agents from Kenya who are already in
17:41Haiti. On the Jamaican side a contingent
17:43of 20 military and four police officers
17:46arrived at the Toussaint Louverture
17:47International Airport in the Haitian
17:49capital on Thursday as the country is
17:52committed to support the MSS mission.
17:54Meanwhile two Belizean soldiers were
17:57welcomed on Friday in Haiti on behalf of
17:59the goodwill of their government.
18:01Authorities suspect another 2,500
18:04military and police officers to back
18:07the MSS up in the near future.
18:09MSS commander Godfrey Antosh was
18:12grateful for the aid received.
18:32The World Health Organization warns
18:36that at least 25% of wounded
18:38Palestinians require rehabilitation
18:40services. The agency pointed out that
18:43almost 18,000 civilians have serious
18:45injuries in their limbs while at least
18:484,000 have undergone amputation.
18:50It also highlighted that the number of
18:52Palestinians with traumatic brain
18:54injuries, spinal cord and high-grade
18:56burns increased during the last days.
18:59The World Health Organization indicates
19:01that the only limb reconstruction and
19:03rehabilitation center in the Gaza Strip
19:05is located in the Nasser Hospital which
19:07has not been functioning since last
19:09February due to the Israeli offensive.
19:16Meanwhile the Rafah border crossing
19:19located south of the Gaza Strip has been
19:21closed for 130 days after a violent
19:24offensive by the Israeli army.
19:26The international community and several
19:28United Nations agencies demand Israel to
19:31resume transit for the entry of
19:32humanitarian aid into Gaza as well as
19:35the transfer of wounded Palestinians.
19:37For its part, the World Food Program
19:39denounces that almost 2 million Gazans
19:42suffer from food insecurity while the
19:44Palestinian Ministry of Health reports
19:46that nearly 20,000 wounded and sick
19:49people in Gaza need to travel to receive
