00:00Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro rejected the U.S. global aggressions against the Bolivarian
00:16nation, which he said are aimed at destabilizing the country.
00:23On Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno RodrĂguez
00:27Parrilla, presented the updated report on the impact of the U.S. economic, commercial
00:32and financial blockade against the country, corresponding to the period of March 2023-February
00:372024.
00:38And in Bolivia, President Luis Arce arrived in the Department of Santa Cruz to coordinate
00:46operations to extinguish the forest fires affecting the city and several other areas
00:50of the country.
00:56Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra GarcĂa from Telesud Studios in
01:00Havana, Cuba.
01:01We begin with the news.
01:03Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro rejected the U.S. global aggressions against the Bolivarian
01:07nation, which he said are aimed at destabilizing the country.
01:11The statements were made at the Anti-Imperialist Rebellion Square in Caracas during the celebrations
01:16for the 16th anniversary of the Youth of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, which
01:21Maduro presided over.
01:23During his speech, the President affirmed that the Venezuelan youth must unite against
01:27Washington's conspiracies to impose hatred on the Venezuelan people.
01:32In this sense, the Venezuelan head of state also said that the Venezuelan extreme right
01:36wing is the evil that only seeks to generate violence among the people.
01:49We have to fight a tremendous battle for the mind, for values, for the cause of the
01:53homeland, especially now that Venezuela is being attacked worldwide.
02:10U.S. imperialism believes it can conquer and colonize Venezuela.
02:13Are you going to let imperialism take over Venezuela?
02:16They believe they can impose fascism by force, with hatred, intolerance, and division.
02:34Are you going to let fascism salve Venezuela with violence?
02:47They are evil.
02:48I have said it so many times in my pilgrimages.
02:51This is a battle between the good, between truth, between justice and them.
03:00During the day, the youth movements also celebrate the 16th anniversary of the foundation
03:05of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela's youth organization.
03:08This activity was convened nationwide by this movement to display their support to sovereignty
03:14and democracy.
03:15President Nicolás Maduro sent a message of congratulations to the organization and asserted
03:20that they are a fundamental part of the Bolivarian project.
03:28On Thursday, the Venezuelan foreign ministry issued a communiqué in rejection of the most
03:33recent package of coercive unilateral measures imposed by the U.S. administration.
03:38The Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs sets forth the following.
03:42Venezuela rejects in its most energetic terms the new crime of aggression committed by the
03:47U.S. government against Venezuela by imposing coercive, unilateral, legitimate and illegal
03:52measures on a group of state authorities, demonstrating once again its full disregard
03:59for international law, the self-determination of the peoples and the democratic will of
04:03the Venezuelan people.
04:05The statement continues by highlighting that the wrongfully called sanctions break and
04:09violate the agreements signed in Qatar and pretend to impose to an entire country and
04:15its political institutions the regime change policies as part of the Monroe Doctrine.
04:20Finally, the document ends by stating that the multicentric and pluripolar world of which
04:26Commander Hugo Chávez spoke about has become a reality and no aggression or threat will
04:31separate the homeland of BolĂvar from its leading role.
04:40The government of Nicaragua condemned imperial aggressions against the peoples and governments
04:44of the world and expressed its solidarity with Venezuela in the face of the sanctions
04:48and blockades imposed by the United States against the country.
04:52In an official communiqué issued on Thursday, the Nicaraguan government rejects and condemns
04:57the continuous aggressions that, in the form of undignified and punitive domination, are
05:01launched against its people and governments, in times that it describes as of luminous
05:06battles for our dignity, sovereignty and rights.
05:09The document went on to say that imperial, colonial and neo-colonial aggressions only
05:14show the impotence and rage of decadent and decrepit empires, which morally have lost
05:21all battles against a world that is neither massive nor dependent, but brave, courageous
05:26and determined to transform the outdated systems and create a new multipolar world.
05:32It finally states,
05:33Another aggression, more struggles, more victories, more honor and more glory for that heroic
05:39Venezuela and for all of us who know that power belongs to the people and that it is
05:44up to us to defend it every day with the fortitude and strength of our great spirits.
05:55During the 57th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Venezuela rejected
06:00the aspirations of what is posing to be a new version of the failed Lima Group, led
06:05by the fascist Turkish government of Javier Millet.
06:08Precisely, this group seeks to continue using human rights as a tool to attack sovereign
06:13nations that have opted for popular and anti-imperialist political projects.
06:18In this regard, the Permanent Representative of Venezuela at the United Nations, Alexandra
06:22Yáñez, highlighted that those countries associated to the Lima Group are subordinated
06:27to the interests of the United States and are accomplices of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
06:38Thank you, President.
06:40We exercise our right of reply in response to a statement read by the Argentinean foreign
06:44minister speaking on behalf of a group of countries.
06:46Obviously, we all know that this new aggression targeting Venezuela comes from the United
06:52States, which, once again, is using its lackeys for despicable purposes.
06:56The United States and its satellites are determined to use the Human Rights Council to apply the
07:01so-called regime change doctrine and to apply maximum pressure against Venezuela.
07:06These governments, particularly the U.S. government, thumb their noses at international
07:11law or human rights.
07:12This is abundantly clear if you take any review of their position in response to the genocide
07:17being meted against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
07:20In the face of this global tragedy in Gaza, these governments are actively involved in
07:24said genocide through the supply of weapons or information used by Israel to bomb schools
07:27and hospitals.
07:29Furthermore, the Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the United Nations, Alexandra
07:34Yáñez, has warned about the true motives behind these systematic attacks on the Bolivarian
07:39Republic, which lie in the Western interest in its oil and gas reserves, and expressed
07:44the conviction of the Venezuelan people and the countries of the Global South to oppose
07:48to these imperialist advances and exploitation of their resources.
07:52However, they are all of a sudden very active, and cynically so, when it comes to their response
07:58to a country that is merely seeking to defend itself from the systematic aggressions of
08:02the imperialist power.
08:03A country that is fighting fascism, coup d'Ă©tat, attempts at external invasion, several assassination
08:08attempts, and the almost 1,000 erroneously labeled sanctions imposed by the US, the EU,
08:12and the UK.
08:14Such a range of criminal efforts targeting a people who are seeking and trying to live
08:19their lives, all of this to try and change a popular socialist government duly elected
08:22and do so forcibly, a government which happens to be the owner of the world's main oil reserves
08:26and the world's fourth-largest gas reserves.
08:29We, the countries of the Global South, have a responsibility to continue to allow Western
08:33countries to continue what they have been doing for centuries, or for choosing to stand
08:36up against them.
08:37They have colonized, stolen our resources, imposed their own interests, manipulated our
08:41decisions and killed our people.
08:42In Venezuela, guided by the sore determination spirit of the liberators, SimĂłn BĂlovar,
08:46we say no, enough is enough, we do not, we will not accept this.
08:52On Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno RodrĂguez Parrilla,
08:56presented the updated report on the impact of the US economic, commercial and financial
09:02blockade against the country, corresponding to the period of March 2023-February 2024.
09:07This way, RodrĂguez Parrilla denounced the economic and humanitarian damages caused by
09:11the criminal policy, which amount to US$5,056,800,000 during the frame of period alone.
09:19The Foreign Minister highlighted that the US government has maintained a maximum pressure
09:23policy against the Caribbean nation in its past year, and its unilateral measures remained
09:29unchanged, with a stronger impact on the economy and the Cuban people.
09:34Precisely, he emphasized that the nation's current challenges and shortages would have
09:38been more efficiently solved if it had access to the numerous resources that the blockade
09:42deprives it from.
09:51From March 1, 2023 to February 29 of this year, the blockade caused damages and material
10:04losses to Cuba in the order of US$5,056,000,000.
10:15That is to say, more than US$5,056,000,000, which means an increase of almost US$200,000,000
10:26with respect to the previous period and with an extraordinary weight in a small economy
10:30such as ours.

11:15Welcome back.
11:41The Chilean President Gabriel Boric announced his intention to process a legislative project
11:46which aims to exclude from the legal framework the application of amnesties, indults and
11:51pardons for crimes against humanity.
11:53Boric assured that although the amnesty is no longer applied, it is necessary to end
11:58its effects in a definitive and irreversible way.
12:02He highlights that with these actions, Chile intends to comply with the recompensation
12:07of international organizations and reaffirm that crimes against humanity are unforgivable
12:12and that no law can erase them.
12:14Additionally, he announced that this month will begin the process of delivering to the
12:19families of the victims of the military regime the files of their cases.
12:37Six employees of the United Nations Organization for Palestine Refugees UNRWA were killed during
12:51a new airstrike by the Israeli regime on a school in the Gaza Strip.
12:55The agency reported that its employees were killed during two airstrikes carried out by
13:00the Israeli regime in the Nusayrat refugee camp in central Gaza, while noting that this
13:05is the highest death toll among the staff of UNRWA in a single incident since October
13:107.
13:11The agency also explained that the Al-Jouni school, run by the United Nations, served
13:16as a shelter for thousands of displaced Palestinians, thus being the target of multiple Israeli
13:22attacks throughout the genocide.
13:35On Thursday, protesters continued rallying against the Australian government for selling
13:39arms to Israel within the context of the Land Forces Expo, an international military conference
13:44held in the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
13:47Earlier on Wednesday, over 1,500 police officers repressed more than 2,500 demonstrators gathered
13:53at the venue of the conference.
13:55Despite the repression, on Thursday the Australian people took to the streets again to chant
14:00pro-Palestinian slogans and demand for the government to break off ties with Israel,
14:06arguing that war crimes start at the management board of companies.
14:10However, violent scenes between activists and police bursted out once again during the
14:15rally.
14:20The Russian Armed Forces liberated in 48 hours 10 localities of the Kursk region.
14:26The Russian Army attacked several airfield infrastructures and energy facilities that
14:31were used by Ukrainian troops.
14:33Russian forces destroyed four armoured personnel carriers and nine US and British-made howitzers.
14:40According to data provided by the Russian Defence Ministry, Ukrainian military casualties
14:44amounted to more than 2,000 soldiers on the northern, western and southern fronts of the
14:49Kursk region.
14:55On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke of the use of Western long-range and
15:00precision weapons that Kyiv does not know how to use unless NATO and the United States
15:05facilitate an attack on Moscow.
15:10The Ukrainian army is not able to strike modern high-precision systems of large range of Western
15:15production.
15:17It cannot do this.
15:19This is only possible with the use of intelligence data from satellites that Ukraine does not
15:23have.
15:24This data is only available from the satellites of the European Union or the United States,
15:30in general, from NATO's satellites.
15:32This is the first point.
15:40And this, of course, significantly changes the very essence, the very nature of the conflict.
15:47This will mean that NATO countries, the United States and European countries are at war with
15:51Russia.
15:53And if this is the case, I mean the change in the very essence of this conflict.
15:57We will make the appropriate decisions based on the threats we face.
16:23Welcome back to From the South.
16:49In Bolivia, President Reyes Arce arrived in the Department of Santa Cruz to coordinate
16:54operations to extinguish the forest fires affecting the city and several other areas
16:58of the country.
17:00President Reyes Arce arrived in the city of Santa Cruz to meet with his cabinet of ministers
17:04and the governor of the state, Mario Aguilera.
17:07The main objective of this meeting was to coordinate the necessary actions to fight
17:11the forest fires that are affecting several regions of the country.
17:15In this sense, the national president announced that on that day he would fly to perform
17:19aerial discharges of water, an unprecedented measure in the country, to reinforce the
17:25efforts to fight the fires.
17:27He also signed to each minister of his cabinet areas of action, both in Benin and in Santa
17:32Cruz, to extinguish these fires.
17:38In Ecuador, 22 forest fires are still active, affecting more than 16,000 hectares.
17:43The National Risk Management Department reported that so far two of the fires have already
17:48been controlled.
17:49As for the rest in the province of Imbabura, there are five active fires, four have been
17:55reported in Pichincha, another four in Cotopaxi, an equal number in Loja, two in BolĂvar,
18:01one in AzuĂ, and in another in the city of Charchi.
18:05The government emphasized that an intense drought accompanied by strong winds has favored
18:11the outbreak of these fires, whose origin is still under investigation, and they do
18:16not rule out that several of them may have been intentional.
18:30In the United States, authorities reported on the spread of the flames of three fires
18:34currently ranging out of control in the mountains of Southern California.
18:39San Bernardino County authorities reported that the fire named LINE poses the greatest
18:44danger because it has consumed nearly 35,000 acres and only 14% of the fire has been contained.
18:52The county's police chief, Shannon Dicas, declared that about 73,000 structures have
18:57been threatened by this fire.
19:00He affirmed that 100,000 citizens of the county remain on evacuation alert.
19:06Since September 5th, more than 3,000 officers have been deployed in the area to try to contain
19:12an extinguished fire in the middle of a great heat wave that is affecting the Californian region.
19:18The weather is a little more favorable for us, but it's still very dangerous conditions.
19:25We've got winds tonight that should get up to about 25 miles per hour.
19:29The relative humidity up here is still very low.
19:32So these are conditions that are ripe for fire activity, and so that's why we want to
19:36remain prepared in order to defend everything up here.
19:40On Wednesday, Hurricane Francine made landfall as Category 2 off the coast of Louisiana in
19:45the United States, bringing potentially deadly storm surge and gusts.
19:49Fortunately, Francine downgraded to a tropical storm after having entered the U.S. with sustained
19:55winds of 155 kilometers per hour.
19:58So far, experts have forecasted that the storm surge might rise the seawater level up to
20:03three meters, triggering floods in coastal areas of Louisiana or even Texas.
20:10Right after Francine made landfall, torrential rains occurred over New Orleans, increasing
20:15the water level of rivers and lakes in coastal communities.
20:18And within hours of its impact, power outages in Louisiana reached some 390,000 houses.
20:31In Mali, the Tomb of Askia, built in 1495, is now expected to be restored to counteract
20:38the effects of climate change.
20:40In the heart of the east city of Gao stands the Tomb of Askia, a symbol of the West African
20:45country's rich cultural heritage and a testament to the splendor of the Songhoi Empire.
20:53The ancient burial site dating back to the 15th century is now in peril as climate change
21:00and extreme weather conditions take their toll.
21:02The consequences of climate change, and in particular the intensification of rainfall,
21:07increases its structural vulnerability.
21:09However, efforts are underway to maintain and preserve the structure, which is a source
21:14of pride for inhabitants and a draw for visitors from near and far.
21:25The Tomb of the Askia is a historical monument that was built by Askia Mohammed in 1495.
21:31It is a very old monument that shows the power and greatness of the Songhoi Empire, a living
21:37proof of it today.
21:39So it is a monument that is also on the National Heritage List and on the World Heritage List
21:44since 2004.
21:48It is a museum for us, if I may say so, and since there will be historians who come from
21:54afar to visit our site, the Tomb of the Askia, it gives a picture of the region of Gao and
22:00every time, it makes us proud.
22:03We have come to the end of this in-brief, but you can find this and many other stories
