00:00What I'd say is the boys can be mean, they are gonna be mean.
00:04They're gonna tell you you don't know what you're doing just because you're a girl or the way that you look.
00:08And honestly, you can believe this, fuck them. Fuck them all.
00:19Thanks for joining me today. It's awesome to be here at the US Open.
00:22We're in right now in Louis Armstrong Stadium.
00:24Yes.
00:25Where you're gonna be performing in about like 25-30 minutes.
00:29Yep.
00:29You're really excited to play tonight. What's your set gonna look like?
00:32What did you prep for something like this?
00:34It's a very like different kind of event, so.
00:37Yeah, honestly, I'm really excited to have some of the younger people, you know,
00:43that necessarily can't make it to the club shows to have them there.
00:45Yeah, it's just very fun, upbeat.
00:47I mean, today was such an amazing day at the US Open.
00:50So we're just gonna try to keep that energy, keep going.
00:52Gonna cap it off well.
00:53Yes, exactly.
00:54That's awesome.
00:55So I know also like, I think it was even last week that you played out in Montauk, right?
00:59Yes.
01:00You closed for Fisher, right?
01:02How was that experience?
01:03What was that like?
01:05Can you talk to me about that?
01:05Because are you a big fan of his as well?
01:08Oh my gosh, am I a big fan?
01:10I don't even think there's words to tell like how big of a fan I am of Fisher.
01:14That was also another crazy experience.
01:17I actually ended up like opening up for him too.
01:19Like my friend was opening.
01:20He was like, why don't you come on up here?
01:21So you did both?
01:22Yeah, I did both.
01:23I was like, Fisher cannot get rid of me.
01:25Sorry, buddy.
01:27That was at Surf Lodge, which is obviously such like a staple.
01:30It was definitely more like a boiler room vibe.
01:32That was like deep, tacky, dark.
01:36Oh, everybody's wearing sunglasses.
01:38Everybody's a little too fucked up.
01:40Those are the vibes.
01:41You just came out with Body Safe a few months ago back in July.
01:44Talk to me about the process of putting that song together, putting that out.
01:48Talk to me about what it was like making that a reality.
01:50Oh my gosh.
01:51Well, you know, it's been taking a lot, a lot, a lot of time.
01:54I've been DJing for, oh my gosh, since I was a junior in high school.
01:58You know, so many people throughout the years was like, let's put out music.
02:00Let's put out music.
02:01And I was like, guys, I'm such a perfectionist.
02:03I will not put anything with my name on it until I'm like clinically obsessed with it.
02:08It's an interpolation of an old song that I actually found that song through another song, Bouncin', which was a rap song.
02:16Yeah, there's like a whole thing behind it.
02:18I used to like run to it all the time.
02:20And then me and some other producers, we kind of like came together.
02:22We got that interpolation and then we took it, sampled that, and then came up with Bodysay.
02:28And she is my baby and forever will be my firstborn child.
02:32Forever.
02:32That's beautiful.
02:33Yeah.
02:42What's on the horizon for you in terms of like producing, creating?
02:45Are you interested to also produce in the future more as well?
02:49Yes.
02:50Oh, there is so much in the works.
02:52My team will not let me sleep.
02:55We have so many amazing projects coming up.
02:58A lot more music.
02:59Right now we're on a tour.
03:01So once kind of we finish up, we're on the Bodysay tour, which is so sick.
03:05We're going to so many different places.
03:06Like, I think we have like 30 shows in three months.
03:10Whoa.
03:11A lot.
03:11My plane miles are like skyrocketing.
03:14Like if you want some miles, call me.
03:17Call me.
03:17I got them.
03:18Gold platinum on every airline.
03:20Oh, yeah.
03:21Skip the line every time.
03:22Yeah.
03:22I'm like, I always go to the front.
03:23I'm like, sorry, guys.
03:24Like I'm on a plane every day.
03:25It's not my fault.
03:26But yeah, so we have so many, so many amazing projects that I'm super excited about.
03:30And I can't wait to share it with absolutely everybody.
03:32I can't really say a lot, but I'm working with some amazing artists that you guys probably know.
03:39And there's going to be really, really cool songs coming out.
03:41I wanted to talk to you about the time that it takes to be a good DJ.
03:45And you said you started like back in junior high and stuff like a long time ago.
03:49So from then to now, do you see any like huge differences in your performance style and like how you've shifted from then to now?
03:57Oh, yeah.
03:58Oh, yeah.
03:58When I started, it was not cute.
04:00It was not nice.
04:02It was not, you did not want to listen to it.
04:04You always got to start somewhere though, right?
04:05Yeah, you really have to.
04:06I went to Lollapalooza, saw Alice in Wonderland performing.
04:10I went to my mom.
04:11I was like, I want to be a DJ.
04:13And she was like, okay.
04:14She was like at the point in my life where she was like, please do anything but boys.
04:18And so she was like, you know what?
04:20Let's go.
04:20Let's go get you a DJ board.
04:22Taught myself off of YouTube.
04:24My school was like really weird.
04:27I don't know how they found out, but they were like, we heard you're DJing.
04:30Would you like to DJ your homecoming?
04:32And I was like, you know what?
04:33Yeah, sure.
04:34Why not?
04:35So that was my first gig ever.
04:38And then started doing like a bunch of like frat parties in the area of Cincinnati, Ohio, where I'm from.
04:46Then chose to go to University of Miami.
04:48Did all the tailgates frat parties.
04:49Did my first club at 18.
04:51And pretty much the rest is history.
04:53That's pretty insane that you saw that performance at Lollapalooza and you just recently played Lollapalooza.
04:58Yes, it was crazy.
05:01A full circle moment.
05:02Yeah, I don't think I've ever been that nervous in my whole entire life.
05:05Like physically shaking where I actually got off stage and I cried and I'm not a crier.
05:11I got to play on Perry stage, which is the main EDM stage there.
05:14And then later in the night, I played Tito's stage.
05:17It seems like a pattern with you where you play a set in the beginning and then play a set at the end.
05:22Like every event.
05:23Like literally once I get on the decks, like good luck getting me off.
05:26I'm like, please, please, please.
05:28Like clawing at them.
05:29Yeah, I'm like, you can't get rid of me.
05:35You kind of blew up on TikTok about a year, over a year ago now.
05:43And how do you like to balance your life as a DJ versus your life as like an online content creator type?
05:51It gets a little tough at times just because I'm a little sleep deprived at times.
05:56And what I kind of tell people is I love to share every single thing that happens with me with the world because without them, I would have nothing.
06:05Do you have any advice to give?
06:06Because I know there are a lot of people trying to be a successful content creator and a successful DJ.
06:12Do you have any advice for anybody trying to do either or both?
06:16I feel like I'm filled with so much advice.
06:19And the biggest thing I'd say is just like post every single day or post all the parts.
06:24Like you think people you're like, oh, no one would want to hear this about your life.
06:27Trust me, people do.
06:29And any girl that's looking to DJ, what I say is the boys can be mean.
06:35They are going to be mean.
06:36They're going to tell you don't know what you're doing just because that you're a girl or the way that you look.
06:40And honestly, you can bleep this. Fuck them. Fuck them all.
06:44And you shouldn't let anyone ever get you down.
06:47Definitely. Especially not a boy. No, no, no. Not over here.
06:50No boys. No boys. No boys.
06:52No boys.
06:54Also, a few last few things.
06:56I wanted to know about your process for assembling a set and also finding new music.
07:01I feel like that's a thing that a lot of DJs have to do every day and like seek out for new things and get some new cool remixes going.
07:08So how do you do all that?
07:10Oh, my gosh. Honestly, just being clinically addicted to my phone helps.
07:16Yeah, it helps. And just always listening to music.
07:19I go into some deep, dark places like for like hours at a time, just going through and just looking for the coolest, weirdest remixes.
07:28Yeah, like that's weird stuff is where you got to go to.
07:31Like, you got to you got to catch people off guard when they're funky.
07:34And honestly, there's so many amazing small artists out there that come out with the sickest remix.
07:39Like some of the remixes that I've played, like even like on my Lala set, like I think like one of them had like a thousand streams.
07:46It was the sickest remix I've ever heard.
07:48And I was like, wow, like we we have to play something.
07:51You're like deep in it. You're like, oh, I'm deep.
07:53Like once you get me in my deep, dark hole, like good luck getting me out.
07:56Obviously, I have like my core elements.
07:58I very much stick to and like my songs that are like my ride or dies that I love to play every single set.
08:03But every set is different.
08:05And the biggest thing that you have to remember is that you can play whatever you want to play.
08:09But I'm always looking at the crowd.
08:11Totally. We just kind of I'm on the fly.
08:14It's great. That's a great way to be.
08:16Yeah, I feel like you you have to be to honestly to have a really good set and to be like super engaged with your audience.
08:23You have to be able to switch it up on the fly.
08:25Yeah. So you're not tethered to one thing.
08:26If it's not working out. Oh, it's not working out.
08:28I'm like we get out. Yeah.
08:30I'll like play a song and I'll be like, oh my gosh, this is not hitting within like 15 seconds of the song.
08:35I'm mixing out of it. There you go.
08:36Okay. I'm like, let's get out of this right now.
08:40I do not like this. What are you looking forward to the most?
08:42You got a lot of shows coming up. You got a big tour.
08:44You're working on more music. You're working with collaborators.
08:47You have a ton going for you.
08:48What's what's the next big thing you're looking forward to?
08:51Oh my gosh. Honestly, to get new music out for everybody.
08:55I am so excited. Yeah.
08:58And to do this tour and just to give the people what they want.
09:02I'm like, let me know what you want.
09:03I will do it. Let me know.
