00:00A five-year collaboration agreement between the University of Milan Bicocca and the Accor Hospital in the north of Uganda
00:11for the development of joint research and training activities in the field of multidisciplinarity.
00:16This is what Bridge Uganda provides, where Bridge stands for Bicocca Research and Innovation for Development and Global Health,
00:23the second outpost of the Milanese Athenaeum, presented today in Milan with the event Global Health, the role of the Academy,
00:30and which is part of the Bicocca Global Health Center project.
00:35Today, in my opinion, is a very special day because we talk a lot about internationalization
00:39and we also talk a lot about the national health system and medicine.
00:43So, in a context in which in our country we reflect on the number of doctors, nurses and also on the quality of the national health system,
00:52it is very important for us to really spread this quality not only in our country,
00:57but also in one of the most fragile areas internationally, which is this northern part of Uganda,
01:04which really represents one of the world's largest economic and social fragilities.
01:10The limited resources of the health authorities of low-income countries represent a challenge
01:15and an opportunity to train future Italian doctors involved in the project.
01:19The name Bridge was given to a headquarters that will have Bicocca in the heart of a hospital in northern Uganda, the Choro Hospital,
01:28and it is part of a path of projects that brings Bicocca, medicine and many departments of Bicocca,
01:37the whole Athenaeum, to want to invest and work in low-income countries.
01:44We strongly believe that exposure in certain low-resource contexts allows us to do our job better, which is to train and do research.
01:57For students and specialists of the University of Milan-Bicocca,
02:00the experience in Uganda will be an opportunity for enrichment, not only professional, but above all human.
02:05Making the doctor learn what are the real problems of 90% of humanity in certainly less privileged territories
02:16still represents an absolutely inimitable gym.
02:22It is not only a very important experience from a professional point of view,
02:27but I would like to say that it is absolutely fundamental for what is the personal experience.
02:33The importance of collaboration between countries has become even more evident with the 2020 pandemic,
02:41as underlines the Vice-Mayor of Milan, Anna Scavuzzo.
02:44Not only the pandemic has taught us that health is a theme for everyone,
02:49but we know what the strategic role of cities can be, also in terms of promotion and prevention.
02:55Universities and cities are willing to serve an ecosystem for health and for citizens.
