00:26in Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City.

00:28This is the 12th honorary consulate of Europe in Mindanao, based in Davao City.

00:34The target of the newly elected honorary consul, Leonilo Claudio,

00:38is to promote the bilateral relations between Belgium and the Philippines,

00:42particularly Mindanao.

00:44He also wants to strengthen the cultural, educational, commercial, and economic ties of the two countries.

00:51He also wants to target investors in Mindanao.

00:54Cacao beans are harvested here.

00:57The consul would like to look into the possibility of a processing facility.

01:04So that the beans that will be grown and harvested here will be processed

01:11and there will be a value added.

01:14The opening of the new Belgian Honorary Consulate for Mindanao was also attended by

01:18the ambassador of Belgium to the Philippines, Michel Paris.

01:23According to Ambassador Paris, it is important for their country

01:26that they have a presence in different places here in the Philippines

01:30to help their citizens if they have problems in other places.

01:34The problem was if a person was in trouble in Mindanao,

01:38then we have to try to solve the problem from very far.

01:42So now we have a consulate here in Belgium.

01:45He also emphasized that they are not afraid of Mindanao.

01:49In fact, they have already started buying cacao,

01:53particularly in Davao Oriental.

01:55He also emphasized that there are chocolates being sold in Belgium from Mindanao.

02:01Aside from cacao, there are also businessmen who came from Belgium

02:05and invested in the coffee industry in different parts of the country.

02:09Ambassador Paris also encouraged Belgian companies to invest here in Mindanao.

02:15At present, there is a company that plans to build a pig farm in Bukidnon.

02:20Renewable energy is also part of the investment

02:23and there are already those who are interested in building hydroelectric turbines

02:27and water pumps here in Mindanao.

02:30Hydroelectric turbines that can be put in the river without a big dam.

02:35So it's just using the flow of the river and they have some plans.
