00:00Welcome to Média TV and Zoom in this cultural chronicle on the 22nd edition of the Tanjaj Festival.
00:16And as you can see, dear viewers, we are at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes
00:22which obviously hosts all the concerts scheduled for this edition.
00:27And we are more precisely next to one of the new scenes created for this 22nd edition of the Tanjaj Festival.
00:36And to talk about it, I have the pleasure of having with me Moulay Ahmed El Alami, president of Tanjaj.
00:43Moulay Ahmed El Alami, thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
00:47So, as I said, a new scene. What can you tell us about this new arrangement here at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes?
00:55Yesterday, we started with the opening of the Palais des Arts.
00:58And every year, we try to bring small novelties, both in the way of living the festival and in the experience of the festivalgoers.
01:07So, it is very important for us to offer people moments of sharing in good conditions.
01:13So, the Pasio scene will host the first concert at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes
01:18with a dance class accompanied by great musicians, Sugar Pie and Candyman.
01:24And every day, so Friday and Saturday, we will be on this scene to start.
01:29And then we will do the closing, the jam sessions that come back to the Palais des Institutions Italiennes in this very beautiful space.
01:36And then we will live between the inside and the outside.
01:39We will have fanfares outside, the two concerts on the big stage, the BMCI stage.
01:43And then we will have here, on the Volkswagen stage that you see behind me, the more jazz, more intimate concerts.
01:52So, the two spaces will cohabit.
01:54This is also a first in jazz time, because before it was the big concert on the big stage.
01:58And then people will go inside.
02:00There, the two spaces will cohabit.
02:02So, we will offer people the possibility to stay in the two spaces.
02:05So, spaces of restoration, of relaxation.
02:08They will be able to rest here or there.
02:10And so, spend from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. all their evening discovering artists.
02:17We have Moulatou Astatke who will open tonight, a legend of Ethiopian jazz.
02:21It has always been a desire to highlight this very African jazz.
02:26And here we have a great opportunity, because this scene, you will see, it has grown.
02:31There are new ways to experience the concerts.
02:34It will be standing concerts, not sitting concerts like before.
02:37So, we brought back more festive bands.
02:39The Gypsy King, Kezia Jones.
02:41So, it will dance, it will move in all directions.
02:44And it's not the only place of the festival, because then we will go to the public stage.
02:49The fanfares continue to walk in the alleys of Casbah and Medina.
02:53And so, we have a course that is really nice for people.
02:56It's a mix of paid and free.
02:59A mix of styles of music, of times.
03:03Between the swing of the 50s, 60s, 70s.
03:06And this new modern jazz, embodied by Leon Fall, who is a brilliant Swiss jazzman.
03:15Who combines electronic music and jazz.
03:18So, really, we will have very different facets of jazz, blues too.
03:22We have very good band musicians.
03:24So, we have about twenty bands that will come together.
03:28Young talents, people of jazz, people of other musical styles.
03:32So, it's really a very different journey.
03:35And then there are our hotel partners who also participate in the party.
03:40And so, we try to involve as many people as possible.
03:43At the same time, on the spaces that we mainly occupy.
03:50The Palais des Institutions Italiennes is part of the history of jazz time.
03:54So, we maintain it, but we diversify it.
03:56We change the experience of people.
03:58I wanted to talk to you about that.
04:00The Palais des Institutions Italiennes.
04:02It is beautiful, it is grandiose.
04:04There is a lot of space.
04:06Is it what makes it easier for you, perhaps?
04:08Better layout, a better fluidity between these scenes inside the Palais.
04:14Because it's a special setting.
04:16And of course, the space that we had the chance to see.
04:20Which is the new space of the great scene, which is the village.
04:25We can actually talk about villages in jazz time.
04:28Well, there will be two villages.
04:30So, two very different experiences.
04:32And what you were saying is that the Palais has its charm, of course.
04:36And that's what makes it the identity of the festival.
04:39It is to be in a very beautiful patio, in a Andalusian Palais.
04:44With its riads and its spaces.
04:46But it also has its constraints.
04:48Mobility, echo, accessibility of people, instruments, things like that.
04:54But it also allows to have this authenticity.
04:59Which is very important.
05:01This side a little retro.
05:02So we keep with the swing groups, etc.
05:05And a more open, more modern side with the outdoor gardens.
05:08So we have this diversity that allows us to play.
05:12Now the fact of playing inside, outside.
05:14So there are rooms that are closed.
05:17At the same time, there are constraints.
05:19For example, on one of the rooms that needs work.
05:22So we have to close it to the public for their safety.
05:25So we adapt to the different constraints.
05:27To try to make a programming that adapts to each scene.
05:30For example, if you're going to have intimate jazz,
05:32you're not going to put it on a big stage.
05:34It's going to be destructive for the artist.
05:36And a bad experience for the festival.
05:38So we really adapt our programming to the atmosphere,
05:41to the atmosphere of the place, of the space, of the people,
05:44of the atmosphere we want to bring them.
05:46Thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
05:50I know we can stay for hours talking about this festival.
05:53But in any case...
05:55We have hours to think about it too.
05:57Thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
05:59And I remind you that the festival continues until Sunday.
06:03Here at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes.
06:07Thank you, dear viewers, for your loyalty.
06:09Stay with us.
06:10The information continues on our different channels.
06:12Median TV Arabic, Median TV Maghreb, Median TV Africa.
