00:00Hello everyone, this is Paul Branson Reviews, and today I'm reviewing a movie.
00:07I had the opportunity to see the new Hellboy movie.
00:11As far as I know, it was only on a $25 million budget, a very low budget for a Hellboy movie.
00:17Now if you remember the other Hellboy movies, they made two of them, and a remake that not
00:21a lot of people liked.
00:23They wanted to see a third movie of Hellboy.
00:25If they did make one, I apologize, I just flat out didn't see it.
00:29But this is a brand new one that came out this year, 2024.
00:33I had the opportunity to see it early, and I'm glad I did.
00:38I'm glad I did, and I'm also glad I didn't, I should say.
00:41Now let me explain.
00:43Now these are some actors that I've never really seen too much of.
00:47I've seen them here and there in little movies here and there, but they're not really big
00:52actors.
00:53But the person who played Hellboy, he's an amazing actor.
00:56He played Hellboy perfectly, and even the cast itself, let me say this, even so I haven't
01:03seen them in much, or I've never seen any of them act before, it was a perfect cast.
01:08There is no doubt about it.
01:10Now this is the director.
01:11He directed this whole thing, and he did a fantastic job directing it.
01:16I'm not saying he didn't.
01:17The obvious music was perfection.
01:20The storyline was really good.
01:21It was called Hellboy, the Crooked Man.
01:25Now I just had a few issues with it, and one that actually really irritated me, but
01:32I'm going to get into that now.
01:34I'm kind of tongue-tied because it is a good movie in general, and it is good on a budget.
01:40Now it feels like an 80s movie.
01:42It really does, and it's set in the 1950s, and I believe it's supposed to be set between
01:47the first and second movie in the middle.
01:50That's what I believe.
01:51That's what I kind of read, but I'm not really sure.
01:54This director also directed Crank 1 and Crank 2, I believe.
01:59He was an assistant, so there's two directors that directed those movies, but he directed
02:04this movie on his own.
02:07Now what I really liked about it, the opening scene caught my attention.
02:10They're bringing something back on a train, a creature in a box.
02:16It obviously gets out, and this is right at the beginning of the film, and this is the
02:20premise of the film, and I won't really say too much more.
02:23When the creature gets out, the train tumbles over.
02:27So now they're in the middle of nowhere in the woods trying to get the creature.
02:30Fantastic fight scene.
02:32There was also another scene later on that actually scared me.
02:35Even so, it did seem a little cheesy, but it was good special effects for the low budget
02:40as it was.
02:41$25 million is fairly a low-budget film for this type of thing.
02:45Now I even could be wrong.
02:46It could have even been a cheaper budget than that, but that's what I saw when I was looking
02:51up things.
02:52Every time I look up things, I find out later I looked it up wrong.
02:55How dumb am I?
02:56So if I looked it up dumb and this was cheaper, they did a really good job on the special
03:00effects, and the ominous music was really good.
03:03It really, really was.
03:05Now this all being said, now the creature got away.
03:10So now they're trying to find a phone, but they're in the middle of the woods, and the
03:13woods seem creepy, ominous music.
03:16They find a person that lives in the woods, but they have no phone.
03:20And the dialogue is funny, and it's very entertaining.
03:24It is very entertaining.
03:26Now I'm not going to tell you some of the actors that are in here.
03:28I did tell you the director directed Crank 1 and 2, or helped with it.
03:32I did tell you that the other, the person who played Hellboy has been in some good movies.
03:39And there are some very, the acting is really good.
03:41And even the villain and the story of the crooked man got my attention.
03:46But the problem with it was they overused the music.
03:50They overused it.
03:52They overused it way too much.
03:55I was getting ticked off because I was like, no, I don't, I want to hear, I want to hear
03:59what they're saying.
04:00And then the music got a little loud and I couldn't hear what they say.
04:03But that could be my hearing problem too.
04:06I couldn't hear what they were saying.
04:07I was like, why so much ominous music in the background?
04:11Why so much?
04:12I want to hear the actual natural sounds of wind and the creaking door and the scariness
04:18of something rushing by them.
04:19No, I didn't hear footprints.
04:21I didn't hear anything.
04:22I just kept on hearing that ominous music in my head over and over again.
04:26And it was starting to drive me crazy.
04:30But the story was good.
04:32The story was good.
04:33And the voices were good too for the characters.
04:36Now I'm not going to tell you what it's about, but it's obviously they're in the woods now
04:41and Hellboy wants to help them because there's something going on in that community, in the
04:46woods because there is a slight community in the woods.
04:49And there's this old church.
04:51There's a lot of stuff that goes on.
04:53And there's some scenes that really did creep me out.
04:56Like one person got lifted up in the air and something happened and that just creeped me
05:01right out because that was a perfectly good scene.
05:04But the music ruined it for me.
05:07And on IMDB right now, they give it a 5.1 out of 10.
05:13And I've read some reviews and they're not really saying too much about the music like
05:18I am, but overall I liked it.
05:20And the ending was a little, the ending could have been slightly better.
05:24But overall he played an excellent Hellboy and the cast was great.
05:27I give it, sadly enough, I give it a 5 out of 10.
05:30So I kind of agree with the critics.
05:32They give it a 5.1 or 5.2 out of 10.
05:36That's where it's sitting at on IMDB right now and I give it a 5.0 out of 10.
05:41If you took out the music and maybe fixed the ending a little bit, I think this could
05:46be a fantastic film.
05:48I really do.
05:49Because the story itself was incredible.
05:52And I do think it's definitely worth a watch.
05:54So I would definitely watch it and you would recognize some of the actors for sure.
05:58They haven't been in a whole lot and some of them have, but more lower budget movies.
06:02And I would love to see the director direct again.
06:05But keep out the music.
06:06It was just way too much.
06:08But the fogging and the creepiness of the whole story was excellent.
06:13All right everyone, a 5 out of 10, I'm sorry to say.
06:15And I probably will try to watch this again.
06:18Maybe I'll try to take out some of the music and I actually might like it better.
06:21Because I think if the music wasn't there I'd probably give it a 7.5.
06:25All right everyone.
06:26Well, I do like the music.
06:27Okay, I want to make that clear.
06:28It was just too much.
06:29All right everyone, bye for now.
06:31It kind of made it unwatchable after a while.
06:35But I still struggled through because it was an interesting story.
06:38Bye for now.
06:39Have an incredible day.
06:40Thank you for watching and check out my other movie reviews and recommendations.
06:44And adios everyone.
06:45Adios, if that's properly, if I'm allowed to say that, I'm not sure.
06:50Bye for now and thank you again for watching.
