00:00Hello everyone, this is Paul Branson Reviews and so much more.
00:07Today I'm talking about a new horror movie or psychological thriller that came out, Speak
00:13No Evil.
00:15I really enjoyed this film.
00:16I did have some problems with it though.
00:19Now it's James Watkins, James Watkins is the same director who directed Eden Lake.
00:25Eden Lake came out in 2008 or 2009, around then.
00:30Now I didn't watch it then.
00:32I didn't know about Eden Lake until like 2012 and it was an amazing, he wrote it and directed
00:38it, movie.
00:39Now most of the actors in here, I have not really seen them act too much before.
00:44Like I'm more into horror and psychological movies and action films so it's a big blockbuster,
00:50I'll go and see it.
00:51But if it's kind of a low budget action film, I don't really watch those type of things.
00:57I do watch really low budget stuff like horror movies and that because I like horror movies
01:03and psychological stuff.
01:05That is my go-to type thing that I go to the most.
01:10But I always do like, you know, I did a review of Ghostbusters and stuff like that of course.
01:16So these actors I haven't really seen so I look them up.
01:19Now the two younger actors, they were fantastic and they were young and they haven't been
01:24into a whole lot of films.
01:26So I can't see, I can't wait to see how they're going to develop as they get older because
01:32they were really good in this.
01:34Now what Speak No Evil is about, and what I really liked about it, was it builds.
01:42And it kind of reminded me a lot of The Perfect Getaway.
01:45The Perfect Getaway was a psychological thriller and it was an amazing film that I actually
01:51should re-watch again.
01:53Not even sure who directed that movie and I've never did a review of that movie.
01:56I should.
01:58But it reminded me a lot of that film.
02:01Now this is a married couple that had a daughter.
02:04They're on vacation.
02:05They seem kind of bored.
02:07This is what Speak No Evil is about.
02:10They see this other couple that's having fun with their son.
02:14So all of a sudden they get together.
02:17They weren't planning on doing it but they kept on running into each other and they were
02:22having a good time.
02:24But the couple was a little weird and the kid was a little bit shy.
02:29A little bit shy and didn't speak.
02:34But at the end of that excursion, the couple with the son invited them to their countryside
02:42to come and visit them for one long weekend.
02:46So now the vacation's over, they're home and you could tell that their relationship was
02:51a little bit on the rocks too.
02:53And the daughter, but they also knew that the couple was a little weird but they said
02:58going to the countryside might be a fun thing to do.
03:02So they go to the countryside.
03:04Now in Rotten Tomatoes they already give this movie an 85% and they give it a 7.5 out of
03:1210 on IMBD.
03:16That's high numbers for this film.
03:18Now what I had the issue with is I felt that it was too long.
03:23It was an hour and 50 minutes and I just felt it dragged on a little too long.
03:29Like you knew something was obviously going to happen but when?
03:33But I felt it just dragged on.
03:34But the dialogue was really, really good.
03:38The dialogue, the cinematography, the way they edited it and put it together, it kept
03:44you entertained.
03:45It kept you at the edge of your seat.
03:47But what I'm saying for me, because there was me and five other people in the cinema,
03:52the other five people that walked out because they were all together, they loved it.
03:56They loved it.
03:57They thought that it was perfect pacing.
03:59They thought it was perfectly an amazing film and they wouldn't take anything out of it.
04:03I thought it slowed down a little bit.
04:06So finally they definitely go to the countryside.
04:10And as they go to the countryside, it's just them and it's like there's nobody around.
04:15Like nobody around, just them and they have this beautiful home, beautiful farm, beautiful
04:19property, and the sun.
04:22But there's just weirdness that seems to happen, weirdness.
04:26Like in the way they talk and how weird they are.
04:30It just kind of really shows now that they're in the country and they feel that they should
04:35leave.
04:36You know, they felt uncomfortable a few times and they knew how to keep them to stay.
04:43Saying they're just joking around, you know, we need to have fun.
04:47So it was kind of like, I believe this movie could have been an hour and a half quite easily
04:55and the pace would have picked up a little bit more.
04:57But the acting was so terrific in this.
05:00I couldn't believe it.
05:01The main guy, who kind of like was an odd guy, he could play Norman Bates for sure in
05:08another Norman Bates remake.
05:11Not the remake they made a while back, because they made a duplicate to the original.
05:16When you do remakes, don't do a duplicate, do an upgrade.
05:21So I really did like this.
05:23I only give it though a 7, a 6.5 to a 7 out of 10 between there.
05:31Maybe a 6.7 out of 10, just because I did feel that it dragged on a little bit.
05:37But overall, I really did enjoy it.
05:39So check it out.
05:40It's in theaters.
05:41Speak No Evil.
05:42It's not unfortunately doing so well.
05:44But James Watkins, I can't wait to see what else he directs and what else he writes on
05:48his own.
05:49I think that maybe there was conflict between the script as three of them were writing it.
05:55But again though, I could be wrong.
05:57Bye for now everyone.
05:58Check out Speak No Evil, the center photography, the ending, and the dialogue.
06:03It creeped me out, and even the music was spot on.
06:06Bye for now everyone.
06:07Have an incredible day, and thank you again for watching.
