The Klang Sessions Court sentenced a 23-year-old member of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) to a total of 10 years jail for abusing three boys under his care.

Judge Noridah Adam meted out the sentence after Muhammad Barur Rahim Hisam pleaded guilty to four charges levelled against him on Thursday (Sept 26).

00:06G.I.S.B. to a total of 10 years jail for abusing three boys under his care.
00:13Judge Norida Adam meted out the sentence after Mohamed Barour Rahim Hisam pleaded guilty
00:18to four charges leveled against him on Thursday.
00:21The 23-year-old, a caretaker of a children's home managed by G.I.S.B., was accused of using
00:27a cane and other forms of aggression to abuse the boys, aged 10 and 11.
00:33The offences were committed at two premises owned by G.I.S.B. in Bukit Raja in the months
00:38of June, July and September this year.
00:41He was charged under Section 31, Subsection 1A of the Child Act 2001, which provides for
00:47a fine not exceeding 20,000 ringgit or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or both.
00:56During proceedings, Mohamed Barour, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a light sentence,
01:02claiming that he had repented and vowed not to repeat the offences.
01:08However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Datin Kalmiza Saleh requested for maximum punishment considering
01:15the severity of the offence.
01:17She also said the victims had been left traumatised and haunted by the abuse.
01:22Mohamed Barour was sentenced to two years' jail for the first two charges and three
01:28years for the third and fourth charges.
01:31The judge ordered the sentences to run consecutively, which means that the accused would have to
01:36serve out the decade.
01:38She also imposed a five-year good behaviour bond with a surety of 10,000 ringgit, failing
01:43which the accused would have to serve another six months in jail for each charge.
