00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. announced his visit to the anniversary of the Philippine Constitution Association, or PHILCONSA.
00:08His goal is to have laws that will protect and support our legal system,
00:14including the protection of our rights in the West Philippine Sea.
00:20This is what Kenneth Paciente wrote.
00:23To finish the hard work for democracy.
00:27This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. called for in his visit
00:32to the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of the Philippine Constitution Association, or PHILCONSA.
00:39According to the President, there is still a lot to do to give more strength to the Philippine Constitution,
00:45especially that there are still some laws that will not be passed.
00:48As we stand here today, we must acknowledge that many of the laws that fully bring life to our Constitution remain unpassed.
00:56And our efforts to fully empower our people and deepen our democracy still fall short of what the framers envision.
01:05It is high time that we take decisive action.
01:08The Bagong Pilipinas calls upon all the branches of the government to rise to this challenge.
01:15So as we celebrate today's milestone, let us commit ourselves to the unfinished work of democracy.
01:39Let us breathe life into the principles enshrined in our Constitution.
01:43Let us create a nation where the rule of law reigns supreme,
01:47where justice is not selective, and where every Filipino enjoys the freedoms, the rights, and the dignity that they are entitled to.
01:56History is watching us.
01:59As we look to the future, let us remember that the Constitution is a guiding light towards a just, prosperous, and resilient Philippines.
02:09The President has also given a statement that the government continues to focus on the integrity of the sovereignty of the country,
02:15as well as the protection of its territorial integrity.
02:19We continue to engage in regular consultations and dialogue with all parties to manage that situation in the West Philippine Sea,
02:26while developing more avenues for communication and cooperation.
02:31Congress is also working on the passage of several pieces of legislation,
02:36including the Maritime Zones Bill.
02:39This clarifies the geographical extent of our maritime domain and the Archipelagic Sea Lanes, or ASL Bill,
02:45that seeks to establish ASLs in our archipelagic waters and in the adjacent territorial sea.
02:53The President has also recognized the role of the Philippines in protecting the Constitution,
02:57especially in the context of its broad and wide-ranging interests.
03:01Meanwhile, First Lady Luis Araneta Marcos is the newest member of the Philippines,
03:07along with former Chief Justice Teresita de Castro and Attorney Michelle Lazaro.
03:12Kenneth Paciente for Pambansang TV in Bago, Philippines.
