00:00All you good people, just trying to make a difference.
00:06Ted, I'm so sorry.
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:09And today we're looking at the Ted Lasso moments that reminded us that it's okay to ugly cry.
00:14Spoilers for seasons 1 through 3.
00:16Life, it's hard.
00:21It's real hard.
00:24Number 20.
00:25Ted learns about Jake.
00:26When Ted left Kansas, he underestimated how much would change.
00:30Despite being away from his family, Ted maintains contact with his son Henry,
00:34who understands that his dad needs to see Richmond through the season.
00:37A playful conversation turns soul-crushing when Henry shows Ted his Infinity Gauntlet,
00:41saying that he got it from mom's friend Jake.
00:44Just as Thanos wiped out half of all life in the universe,
00:47this revelation breaks at least half of Ted's heart.
00:49What is that?
00:51Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet. Jake gave it to me.
00:54Oh, snap. Well, that's cool.
00:57Who's Jake?
00:58Mommy's friend.
00:59He tries to put up a chipper front, but on the inside,
01:02Ted is overwhelmed with sorrow knowing that Jake is probably spending more time with Henry than him.
01:08This moment marks the beginning of a turning point for Ted,
01:10who will soon have to make another life-changing choice.
01:13Great.
01:14Number 19.
01:15Rebecca can't get pregnant.
01:17Rebecca didn't think motherhood was in the cards for her until she saw a psychic.
01:21After several premonitions came true,
01:23Rebecca decides that the fertility clinic might be worth a visit.
01:26She receives a call shortly after.
01:28Hello, Doctor.
01:31Ah, yes. Yes.
01:33Very close today.
01:34While we don't hear the doctor over the phone,
01:36the expression on Rebecca's face says everything.
01:39Although she's alone, Rebecca still tries to hide her disappointment behind a forced smile.
01:44She then calls Keeley, who doesn't pick up,
01:47emphasizing that Rebecca has nobody to go home to.
01:49Right, yes, that's what I thought.
01:54Oh, it's definitely to be sure.
01:57Rebecca doesn't dwell on this news,
01:59figuring that having a child was always a long shot.
02:01Rebecca forgets that you don't need to have a child biologically.
02:05Sometimes, one unexpectedly comes into your life.
02:09Number 18.
02:10Ted talks to his mother.
02:11Therapy helps Ted to address the trauma he's been repressing since his father died.
02:16Ted isn't the only one who's been shielding pain behind a folksy Midwestern attitude.
02:20When Ted's mother Dottie spontaneously comes to town,
02:23Ted finally confronts her.
02:24Of course, he does this the Ted Lasso way.
02:27For every criticism directed at his mother, a compliment follows.
02:31You're not working on yourself.
02:32We're seeking help after we lost Dad.
02:35And for not talking to me about it either,
02:37just glossing over the whole thing and acting like everything was all right.
02:41While Ted loves his mother and appreciates everything she's done for him,
02:44ignoring the tragedy that's loomed over their family was her biggest mistake as a parent.
02:49Dottie owns up to her missteps,
02:51but takes this opportunity to tell Ted that he needs to be there for his son.
02:55Your son misses you.
03:01Yeah, I know.
03:05I miss him too.
03:06They conclude that no parent is perfect.
03:09If you keep playing though, you're doing something right.
03:12Number 17.
03:13Ted learns of Nate's betrayal.
03:15Ted recognized Nate's talents when most wrote him off as a lowly equipment manager.
03:20By the power vested in me by the Associated Football Club of Richmond,
03:24I now pronounce you Coach Nate.
03:29It seemed like such a joyous moment when Nate got promoted to assistant coach,
03:33but this marked the beginning of his dark descent.
03:36You made me feel like I was the most important person in the whole world.
03:42And then you abandoned me.
03:47Like you switched out a light just like that.
03:49Slowly but surely, Nate's newfound position brings out his insecure, narcissistic, toxic side.
03:55This culminates with Nate tipping off Trent Krim about Ted's panic attack.
03:59Ted learns of this in the most impersonal way, through a text from Trent.
04:03The fact that Trent reveals his anonymous source speaks volumes about his growth as a character,
04:08but it also exposes Nate's devious turn.
04:11Aside from the fear of what's to come,
04:13the look in Ted's eyes unearths the heartbreak of being betrayed by someone he thought was a friend.
04:18Number 16.
04:19Jamie apologizes to Keeley.
04:21When Jamie and Keeley break up in season one, she tries explaining to Keeley
04:25that she's not the one who betrayed her.
04:29When Jamie and Keeley break up in season one, she tries explaining accountability to him.
04:34What are you saying sorry to him for?
04:36Being accountable matters, Jamie.
04:41You're done.
04:42Jamie doesn't process this, although Keeley's words finally get through to him two seasons later.
04:47Following an explicit video leak, some people act as if Keeley's to blame.
04:52To Keeley's surprise, Jamie is there for her when nobody else is.
04:56Jamie forgot to delete the video after they broke up.
04:59Keeley tells Jamie that this isn't his fault since he wasn't the one who made the video public.
05:04Nevertheless, Jamie feels that Keeley deserves an apology.
05:07So stupid, I should have been more careful.
05:09I should have picked a stronger password or something.
05:11Oh no, don't tell me your password was password, Jamie.
05:16Yeah.
05:16When Keeley hugs Jamie, it isn't just for providing comfort.
05:20It's because he's matured into somebody who understands that being accountable matters.
05:24Jamie might not realize how much he's grown, but Keeley does.
05:32I would like to pull out of my campaign with Dubai Air.
05:36What? Why?
05:37Well, it's come to my attention that Dubai Air's parent company, Cerithium Oil, is destroying Nigeria's environment.
05:43And at the same time, bribing government officials to look the other way.
05:46Mirroring real world struggles that still persist,
05:49Sam is left in a difficult position upon realizing that Richmond's sponsor, Dubai Air, is polluting his homeland of Nigeria.
05:56This also puts Rebecca in a tough spot when Dubai Air tells her to fire Sam for boycotting an ad campaign.
06:10While Rebecca pushes back against the sponsor, Sam puts his career on the line by protesting Dubai Air on live television.
06:17Isaac and Winchester join Sam, but their cause isn't limited to the team's Nigerian members.
06:30As Jamie sets aside his ego, he finally learns the value of teamwork, encouraging the rest of Richmond to follow.
06:36Watching the team march onto the field in solidarity, it's hard not to break down in tears of inspiration.
06:47Little Nigerian prick stole my thunder.
06:51No, but seriously, to Sam.
06:56Number 14. Colin comes out.
06:58Colin finds that he isn't alone after confiding in Trent about his secret.
07:02An ache. An ache for both my lives. To be my only life.
07:10After Isaac learns the truth, though, their friendship begins to sour.
07:14We aren't entirely sure what's going through Isaac's head until he confronts a homophobic spectator.
07:19As the team discusses what prompted this, Colin is compelled to come out.
07:23While the team is quick to accept Colin, Ted naturally goes the extra mile.
07:27We don't not care. We care very much. We care about who you are and what you must have been going through.
07:36In his own unique way, Ted explains they care that Colin is gay, but for all the right reasons.
07:42Although a weight has been lifted, there's still one person Colin needs to speak with.
07:46Despite initially coming off as cold, Isaac cares about Colin most of all.
07:51I hated different people for years, and the second you find out, I didn't last a month.
08:02I'm sorry, bro.
08:03Going forward, there's nothing Colin can't tell him.
08:07Number 13. Ted accepts the end of his marriage.
08:10Ted's friendly nature is his greatest strength and his one weakness.
08:14Ted is such a genuinely nice guy that he goes through mental gymnastics to avoid issues staring him in the face.
08:20It's apparent that his marriage to Michelle is over, although Ted doesn't want to admit this to himself.
08:25Even after he moves to another country, Ted believes there's still life left in their union.
08:30It isn't until Ted sees Michelle in tears that he realizes how much hurt she's been repressing.
08:35You don't have to keep trying anymore. It's okay.
08:41I'm gonna be okay.
08:42Michelle isn't in love with Ted anymore, but she still cares about him enough to put on a smile.
08:47As hard as Ted tries to tiptoe around the D-word, the idea of Michelle being unhappy convinces him to let her go.
08:54I promised myself I would never quit anything in my life.
08:58But you're not quitting, Ted.
09:02You're just letting me go.
09:03Number 12. Repairing Sam's restaurant.
09:06Mirroring real life, Sam enters a Twitter feud with Home Secretary Brinda Barrow, who seeks to keep refugees out of the country.
09:13When Sam condemns her, Barrow borrows a line from Laura Ingraham's playbook.
09:17Sam calls Barrow out for what she is, but their rivalry soon stretches beyond social media.
09:23Finding that his restaurant has been broken into and vandalized, it becomes clear to Sam that bigotry doesn't end with Barrow.
09:29My son, listen to me. Don't fight back. Fight forward.
09:37Fortunately, Sam's father's in town, providing a shoulder to cry on with wise advice.
09:42The team is there for Sam as well, wasting no time getting construction underway.
09:47Sam learns that there may always be bigots, but as long as there are people like his teammates, there's nowhere to go but forward.
09:54The surprise is ruined!
09:56What are you guys doing here?
09:57Well, we all just asked ourselves, what does this situation need?
10:01We thought your situation needed us.
10:03Number 11. Ted's panic attack.
10:05Although Ted agrees to the divorce, the reality of the situation doesn't truly sink in until the papers arrive.
10:12He finally breaks down during a performance of Let It Go, which is usually an uplifting song, but its title hits too close to home for Ted.
10:19His hands uncontrollably twitch, he becomes short of breath, and the sounds surrounding him are drowned out.
10:33As Ted secludes himself in a bubble of anxiety, Rebecca of all people comes to his aid.
10:38It's okay. Try to breathe.
10:42I can't, I can't. I don't know what's going on. I'm sorry.
10:46It's okay. You're having a panic attack. Just breathe.
10:49It's the moment that confirms Rebecca's heart isn't made of ice, and that behind Ted's chipper optimism, there's a complex soul battling internal pain.
10:58Hey, do me a favor, just let Beard know I went back to the hotel.
11:02Of course. You just get home safe.
11:04Okay, thank you.
11:05Alright.
11:06As Ted walks home, our hearts break along with Rebecca's, who begins to see the error of her ways.
11:12Number 10. Nate apologizes to Ted.
11:15Nate spends most of season three regretting how he left things with Ted.
11:19Despite Nate's past behavior, Richman doesn't hesitate to invite him back.
11:23Even Beard is willing to put his reservations aside as a thank you to Ted.
11:27So to honor that, I forgive you. I offer you a job. The life part's up to you.
11:36Although all appears to be forgiven, the belief sign's absence serves as a reminder of how awful Nate acted.
11:43Alone with Ted, Nate unleashes the guilt he's been carrying since leaving.
11:47While Nate's redemption arc can admittedly come off as rushed and uneven, we'd be lying if we said watching him break down in Ted's arms didn't get us choked up.
11:55It's okay.
11:56Please, please, can you just let me say it?
12:00I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
12:05Even if the journey might have been bumpy, the closure point feels just right as Ted and Nate bond over the torn sign.
12:12Number nine, Ted seeks help.
12:14Hey, Doc, you get any trouble last night?
12:16Nothing I care to speak about at work.
12:18Woo, Doc, you are more mysterious than David Blanery in a Sue Grafton novel at Area 51.
12:23Well, Ted, make an appointment when you need to talk.
12:26Hey, I talk all the time, Doc. Just let me follow you around for ten minutes.
12:29After five, you want me to hush my butt?
12:31Ted's first major panic attack isn't an isolated incident, but he remains in denial that he has a problem that requires outside assistance.
12:38He's especially resistant when Dr. Sharon Fieldstone comes on board as the team psychologist.
12:43You don't know me. We don't have history.
12:46And yet you just expect me to spill my guts about all the gory details of my life.
12:51The fights, the mistakes, my deep, dark secrets.
12:54Sharon can tell that Ted is harboring something negative underneath the jolly persona he's maintained.
13:00Her suspicions are confirmed when Ted endures another panic attack.
13:04Sharon finds Ted waiting in her office, ready to make an appointment.
13:08Are you okay?
13:13I want to make an appointment.
13:15Although Ted takes his first step towards acknowledging that he has a mental health condition,
13:20the vulnerable expression on his face is beyond disheartening.
13:23Even Sharon didn't seem to realize how much Ted has been concealing, and the walls are just beginning to crumble.
13:308. Richmond's Loss
13:32The season one finale's title says it all, the hope that kills you.
13:37I disagree, you know. I think it's the lack of hope that comes and gets you.
13:44See, I believe in hope. I believe in belief.
13:48Ted has spent the season earning the team's respect and friendship.
13:52His positive energy proves infectious, giving Richmond and the audience confidence to believe that victory is impending.
13:58Hold on. Can you believe it? It's Kent!
14:08Although Roy suffers a devastating blow that solidifies the end of his time on the field,
14:13a win still appears to be within reach.
14:15Richmond celebrates too early, as Jamie makes an extra pass that nets his team the game.
14:22Manchester City win, and AFC Richmond's time in the Premier League is over.
14:28The one silver lining is that Jamie's actions demonstrate his maturity as a team player,
14:33learning to not hog all the glory for himself.
14:36Unfortunately, Jamie is chastised by his father for sharing the spotlight,
14:40leaving Ted to act as a true father figure.
14:51And you'll never walk...
14:58Win or lose, Ted is ready to move on.
15:01Rebecca also appears ready to start a new chapter, but only if this is truly it for Ted.
15:06In a stadium of empty seats, Rebecca pitches the idea of Ted staying.
15:10I respect that you need to go home to your son, Ted,
15:14but I just want you to consider the possibility that this is your home.
15:20Ted already knows his answer, and deep down, Rebecca always knew what he would decide.
15:25She still had to ask.
15:26You already know your answer, don't you?
15:32I do, yeah.
15:33I know.
15:36I just had to try.
15:37They share one last tearful goodbye at the airport,
15:39where Rebecca tells Ted she's decided to stay at Richmond after all.
15:42What the heck are you doing here?
15:44I just bought a ticket to get through security so I could come and say a proper goodbye.
15:49Rebecca might have hired Ted with the intent of destroying Richmond.
15:52Not only did this have the opposite effect,
15:55but Ted and Rebecca's friendship would get them both where they needed to be.
15:58It's a fitting farewell.
16:00Until the next season, that is.
16:04After retiring from playing soccer, Roy struggles to leave Richmond behind.
16:08While he makes for a highly entertaining sports commentator,
16:11Roy realizes that there's only one place where he belongs.
16:14Deciding to take Ted up on his coaching offer, Roy leaves mid-broadcast.
16:18Adding to the unprofessionalism, Roy tells off his co-hosts,
16:22although even they seem to respect that he's following his heart.
16:25Roy!
16:27Jeff.
16:29I have to go.
16:33Roy heads straight to Richmond,
16:35where he's greeted by a cheering crowd who missed him almost as much as he missed the game.
16:40It's the sports equivalent of somebody rushing to the airport to declare their love for somebody.
16:44Just when you think this couldn't get any more like a rom-com,
16:47Roy throws in a Jerry Maguire reference.
16:50Hello, coach.
16:52Really glad you decided-
16:53Shut up.
16:54Just shut up.
16:56You had me at coach.
17:01The death of Rebecca's father summons mixed emotions.
17:04While the sudden loss hits Rebecca hard,
17:06she struggles to celebrate the life of a man who cheated on her mother.
17:09Even after Rebecca learns that her mother was aware of his infidelity,
17:13the anger she feels towards him remains.
17:15You knew and you did nothing.
17:17Of course I knew. I know everything.
17:21Then I hate you too.
17:27I hate you for letting him treat you like that.
17:29Although Rebecca agrees to deliver a eulogy,
17:32she's at a loss for words until Ted arrives.
17:34Rebecca finds it easier to express herself through song,
17:37reciting one of her parents' favorites.
17:40Never gonna give you up.
17:44Never gonna let you down.
17:49Never gonna run around
17:53and desert you.
17:56What's often seen as a campy song becomes heart-wrenching and almost solemn
18:00as Rebecca tears up through the first verse.
18:03With Ted encouraging the rest of the church to provide backup,
18:06Rebecca makes it through the eulogy in one piece
18:08and emerges a little stronger.
18:11Never gonna give, never gonna give.
18:13Give you up.
18:16Never gonna give, never gonna give.
18:18Give you up.
18:26The first season was always building toward Ted learning why Rebecca hired him,
18:30but we didn't anticipate how the truth would come out.
18:33A lesser show would have seen a third party let the cat out of the bag,
18:36creating a lasting rift between Ted and Rebecca.
18:39This show doesn't go for the cheap shots, however.
18:42I mean, what would be the point of telling Ted now?
18:44It doesn't change anything.
18:46It would change how I feel about you.
18:48Encouraged by Keely, Rebecca sincerely sees that her motives were wrong,
18:52tearfully confessing everything to Ted.
18:54This club is all that Rupert has ever cared about,
18:57and I wanted to destroy it.
18:59To cause him as much pain and suffering as he has caused me.
19:05And I didn't care who I used or who I hurt.
19:09We're not sure whether to feel worse for Rebecca,
19:12who is visibly overcome with guilt,
19:14or Ted, who finds out he was a pawn in a vengeful scheme.
19:18While Ted is hurt, he's quick to forgive Rebecca,
19:21appreciating her eventual honesty.
19:24Divorce is hard.
19:27It doesn't matter if you're the one leaving or if you're the one who got left.
19:33It makes folks do crazy things.
19:35It might have started as a lie, but a true friendship has developed.
19:42There were moments when even Ted struggled to believe.
19:45As he prepares for his last game at Richmond, though,
19:47Ted sees how unbreakable the team has become.
19:50After Ted previously ripped up the believe sign as a motivator,
19:53the team reveals that they kept the pieces.
19:56Before heading out to the field, they reassembled the poster.
19:59This heartwarming display is a perfect metaphor for what Ted Lasso is all about.
20:03There it is.
20:04Number four.
20:06Yeah?
20:07Belief is fragile and sometimes seems beyond repair.
20:10But when a team supports one another,
20:12there's nothing that a little tape can't fix.
20:15Just because Ted is returning to Kansas
20:17doesn't mean he won't miss the friends he made along the way.
20:20There's no place like home.
20:23That's true.
20:29Man, there ain't a whole lot of places like AFC Richmond either.
20:33Number two.
20:34Ted opens up about his dad.
20:36In one of the show's most uplifting moments,
20:38Ted bests Rupert in a game of darts,
20:41revealing that he used to play with his father until he passed away.
20:44Have you played a lot of darts, Ted?
20:50To which I would have answered,
20:52yes, sir.
20:54Every Sunday afternoon at a sports bar with my father
20:57from age 10 to I was 16 when he passed away.
21:00As life-affirming as this scene is,
21:02it takes on a darker sentiment when we later learn how Ted's father died.
21:06Do you want to talk about it now?
21:10No.
21:11No, not right now.
21:12I need to get back inside of the team.
21:14I just wanted you to know.
21:15As Rebecca grapples with the grief of losing her father,
21:18Ted tells Dr. Sharon about the day he lost his dad.
21:21An ordinary day became probably the most traumatic of Ted's life
21:25as he found his father's body following a gunshot.
21:28I think if he would have known how good he was
21:31and stuff he didn't really care about being good at,
21:34I don't think he would have done it.
21:40And I wish I would have told him.
21:41I wish I would have told him more.
21:43Suddenly, Ted's history of panic attacks and repressed emotions makes more sense.
21:48Ted unleashes the anger, regret, and sadness
21:50that has been boiling inside of him since he was 16,
21:53needing a hug afterward.
21:55Are you going to charge me for this session?
21:58Of course I am.
21:59Okay.
22:00For the house call.
22:01I appreciate your integrity.

22:23Speaking of hugs,
22:24Roy and Jamie gradually work through their rivalry as season 2 progresses.
22:28A turning point comes when Richmond loses to Manchester City,
22:31much to the dismay of Jamie's father.
22:34You know that Ickle TV show you made?
22:38It just made it easier for Manchester City to kick you to the curb.
22:42Look where you are now.
22:44Swaddling about with a bunch of amateurs.
22:47No offense, no offense.
22:49Although this isn't the first time we've seen Mr. Tart mistreat his son,
22:52this public display of animosity pushes Jamie to finally strike back.
22:57The only thing more satisfying than seeing Jamie punch his old man
23:00is watching Coach Beard kick him out.
23:03Watch the door.
23:05Oops.
23:06The biggest surprise of all comes when Roy embraces Jamie,
23:09giving him permission to unleash the waterworks.
23:14As Jamie and Roy have a breakthrough,
23:16Ted is unable to stay in the room as memories of his own father are summoned.
23:20Ted's influence on Roy is felt through this hug, however.
23:24Which Ted Lasso moment had you unapologetically crying?
