00:00And this really changes when I got up this morning, I started thinking about, all right,
00:07it's five knots and it's gonna be a blowout.
00:09You know, we're going to get all over we're for not playing Tom Kim today, we're going
00:13to get all over.
00:14Charlie, forget it.
00:15Well, I can say anything bad about weird because here comes the international team there.
00:19They are fighting back, you could say.
00:22This is so improbable, Mike, because if you look coming into this competition, if you're
00:26looking at the three different formats that are played, the four ball format, which many
00:32know is just better ball, best ball.
00:33When you play that at home, foursomes format, which is all shot, which is what they're playing
00:37today in singles.
00:39Historically, the internationals actually had a, had a two point edge in the four ball
00:44format that we saw played yesterday.
00:46The U S swept five zero and the foursomes format, the U S had a 37 point edge.
00:52They'd won 89 and a half points to the internationals, 52 and a half lifetime.
00:57And so to see it happen this way, where Mike Weir elects to play the four ball format first,
01:03thinking that's going to lead to an advantage, getting blanked on day one and have the internationals
01:07come out the way they've done in all shot.
01:10And they have a chance to go five on this session.
01:12I mean, I'm looking at Xander shop Lee and Patrick can't lay, who have been one of the
01:15stalwart U S pairings for years are seven down through 11 holes right now.
01:21They're about to shut this thing down.
01:22The 12th hole.
01:23It's crazy.
01:24Finished.
01:25Finished Charlie.
01:26It's over.
01:27That was completely done.
01:28And like you said, that's supposed to be their top thing.
01:31Like that was like a little bit of talk yesterday morning, right?
01:34Oh, why?
01:35Why they break up?
01:36Can't lay in shop.
01:37Like those guys play so well together.
01:38They played pretty good opposite away from each other yesterday.
01:42And then you put them back together for the alternate shot.
01:44I had a feeling though, Charlie, listen internationally, they weren't going to come out and roll over
01:48in this.
01:49Now I didn't think this would be going on.
01:52I thought there was a couple of groups today that could get a few points back for them
01:55with Matsuyama and MB in one of them.
01:57And I thought, you know, finally put in maybe a couple of Canadians together with Corey
02:02Connors and Mac use that might also, especially against what maybe would be perceived as one
02:07of the weaker U S groups, just because of how maximum was played recently.
02:11But I definitely didn't see this.
02:13So this, these odds have changed too, Charlie, I think last night when we left and it was
02:18five, Oh, I saw USA at minus 1800 to win the president's cup.
02:25Basically a done deal live right now, as we speak minus three 20, which is I think Charlie
02:30right about back to where it was pre-tournament.
02:32So we're on here, baby.
02:34We might have ourselves a weekend.
02:36We really might.
02:38And I think it's the thing to me that's interesting about this competition is heading into it.
02:43The storyline was if the internationals don't win this thing or make this competitive, we
02:48have to look at a total format overhaul.
02:50We have to look at, you know, changing, uh, maybe making it a mixed competition.
02:53A lot of people talked about in past years, getting the women involved.
02:57We need to maybe talk about changing the number of matches per session to mirror, like what
03:01the Ryder cup does instead of doing a four day competition with five matches on day one
03:05and two, kind of shrinking it to a three day, um, just a lot of chatter in that sort of
03:10direction.
03:11Then of course you open up with a five zero U S lead and wonder, okay, what like, you
03:17know, coming out of this, we're gonna have to fix this thing.
03:19We can't keep doing it this way.
03:21And I think that psychologically that has to have some sort of impact on both locker
03:26rooms.
03:27Like for the U S it's, you expect to win, you go out, you win in this fashion, the first
03:31session and you're kind of thinking, all right, you know, the Ryder cup is the one we care
03:35about more.
03:36It's the more difficult, the two competitions we can kind of sleepwalk through the rest
03:39of this thing and get it done.
03:40And we're going to be fine.
03:42Now you've got a real competition going.
03:44I mean, I know we saw a little bit of fireworks yesterday between Scotty Sheffler and Tom
03:47Kim, and that was hopefully going to get things going a little bit.
03:50And it didn't happen in that four balls or the four ball session yesterday, but now it's
03:55just pure old competition.
03:56It's like, you don't need me.
03:57That was fireworks because you're getting your butt whooped and you've got to come out
04:00and get this thing right.
04:01Cause it, you know, a loss is going to be tough for them.
