00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most shockingly brutal
00:10Pokémon brawls.
00:1410.
00:17Primarina's Serenade gets cut short
00:20Even for a leader of Team Skull, Guzma's performance in the Alola Pokémon League is
00:25just plain cruel.
00:27Lana's no pushover by any means, but her Primarina couldn't even utter a single note
00:32before Golisopod's throat chop put it on an extended vocal rest.
00:43Primarina squeezes away, only to be plucked back up by its tail and assaulted by a wave
00:49of poison jabs.
00:51At a certain point, all Lana can do is tell her Pokémon to run.
00:55Primarina doesn't get very far, but the fact that Lana was that scared in a formal
01:00league match speaks volumes.
01:02There's no Z-move in all of Pokémon that could have stopped this match from being an
01:07absolute beatdown.
01:139.
01:14Serperior's Squeeze
01:16Another league match, another Pokémon battle that turns into a full-on horror film.
01:21Here, Ash is squaring off against his slimy Unovan rival, Trip, so naturally, he uses
01:27Pikachu.
01:29The issue is that Trip uses his starter too, and Serperior doesn't understand mercy.
01:38Poor Pikachu is caught in a rap so intense, his head nearly pops clean off.
01:43Thunderbolts don't work, cries for help don't work, Ash simply has to watch his oldest partner
01:49suffocate right before his eyes.
01:57Thankfully, the Pallet Town prodigy brings it back with a thrifty strategy involving
02:02Irontail and Electro Ball.
02:04But there's no forgetting Ash and Pikachu's journey almost ended right then and there.
02:158.
02:16A Grizzly Rumble
02:17Ultra Beasts have nothing on Bewear.
02:20Taking the concept of overprotective mama bears to new, uppercutting heights, the fluffy
02:25Pokémon steps right into the ring to defend Team Rocket.
02:29Firmosa gets the first hit on the chin, but not even its superior speed could protect
02:38it from Bewear's final skyward punch.
02:41It's a dazzling display of viciousness that you don't often see in Pokémon, let alone
02:46against a freaking Ultra Beast.
02:53Bewear runs off before finishing the job, but either way, the message is loud and clear.
02:59Unless you like being on the wrong end of a knockout, do not, under any circumstances,
03:04poke the bear.
03:097.
03:10Throwdown
03:11Brace yourselves.
03:13There's no flamethrowers, ice beams, or thunderbolts to be found here.
03:17In the finals of the Clubsplosion tournament, it's down to two fighting types, and they
03:22prefer to duke it out with their fists alone.
03:27What follows is a one-on-one so brutal, it'll make you silently wonder, this is still Pokémon,
03:33right?
03:34You know, the family-friendly anime trying to appeal to kids?
03:40This match could have fooled us.
03:41The moves here are straight out of an MMA fight.
03:44Even worse, neither side is willing to tap, leading to an ever-increasing back-and-forth
03:49that just never lets up.
03:51By the time Throw finally faints, it almost comes as a relief.
03:586.
04:00Clash of the Charizards
04:02Longtime Poké fans know the fight between Ash and Richie well.
04:06Charizard comes out and refuses to listen to its trainer, giving Richie an automatic
04:12win.
04:13However, Ash's Charizard isn't quite as peaceful in this other version.
04:20Here, Ash and Richie's rivalry really heats up more than we could ever imagine.
04:25Although, if you don't want to see Pokémon bleed, you're better off just skipping this
04:30chapter altogether.
04:31Yeah, the electric tale of Pikachu manga really goes there.
04:36This version of events makes sure you know that the Indigo League is a fight to the finish
04:41in every sense of the phrase.
04:435.
04:44Lucario and Garchomp duke it out
04:47No one ever expected the semifinals of the Masters 8 to be easy, especially considering
04:53Ash is up against Cynthia's ace, Garchomp.
04:56Still, even with the necessary context, this climactic duel is just something else.
05:02It's clear Lucario and Garchomp are at their absolute limit, but does that stop them from
05:07beating the ever-loving snot out of each other?
05:10Of course not.
05:11The two punch each other silly with a series of downright wince-inducing blows.
05:18They punch and punch, and when they're done that, they start over.
05:22Every headshot and counter is a nail-biter guaranteed to keep your blood pumping until
05:27the very end.
05:334.
05:39The Death of Mew
05:40There's no mirage here.
05:42This 10th anniversary special actually kills off a Mew.
05:46When the conniving Dr. Young creates a mirage version of Mewtwo, it shows off its power
05:51by attacking its counterpart with a twin-fisted solar beam.
06:01Mew doesn't faint or flee, or get recalled into a Pokeball.
06:05It literally dissolves into data.
06:08It may have just been a mirage clone, but seeing a fully conscious Mew let out a death
06:12cry is still something we'll never forget.
06:18On the bright side, its remaining data played a pivotal role in shutting down Mewtwo for
06:23good.
06:24It's the only silver lining keeping this special from being a complete downer.
06:303.
06:33Mega Lucario's Mega Rampage
06:35Even the craziest Pokemon matches keep it between, well, the Pokemon.
06:40Not Korrina's Mega Lucario, though.
06:47Overwhelmed with its new power, it disobeyed its trainer and nearly flattened Pikachu into
06:52a pancake.
06:53Ash, of course, steps in to call off the match, but Mega Lucario isn't satisfied, and tries
06:59to send him and Pikachu all the way back to Lavender Town's Pokemon Tower.
07:08It's one thing to see a Pokemon get a bit bloodthirsty in the ring, and another to have
07:13it nearly end a trainer's life.
07:15And a good thing another Lucario was there to put an end to things, or, well, you get
07:20the idea.
07:222.
07:25Clone Chaos
07:26Back when Pokemon was still about catching them all, Mewtwo appeared and shook things
07:31up with a squad of super-powered variants.
07:34Then, as if seeing Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise systematically lose to their clones
07:39wasn't bad enough, Mewtwo had a whole army of copycats waiting in the wings.
07:45And just like the others, these guys didn't come to play around.
07:49The ensuing fight is genuinely difficult to sit through.
07:52You've got Psyduck in a slapfest, Gyarados going for the jugular, Ninetales snarling,
07:58and so many more.
08:06Say what you will about his methods, but Mewtwo ensured Pokemon's first movie was memorable,
08:12and that's putting it lightly.
08:341.
08:35Kanto Starter Smackdown
08:38You may be thinking, at their adorable base stage, how bad could a spar between a Charmander
08:43and a Squirtle really be?
08:45Well, Pokemon Origins took that scepticism as a challenge, and delivered an eye-opening
08:52display of Pocket Monster carnage.
08:58And in its first episode, no less, Charmander's just having a good time, but Blue Squirtle
09:04is there to win.
09:08It sprays the Fire-type down, lunges on top of its prey, and then bites until Red has
09:14no choice but to forfeit the whole match.
09:18You can't really blame him.
09:22Charmander's cries are so haunting, it's a surprise he ever wanted out of his Pokeball
09:27again.
09:28Moral of the story?
09:29Don't underestimate Blue.
