00:00I, we're at Gillette Stadium, the Patriots lose bigly, Curtis, 30-13 to the 49ers
00:07and I am at a loss for why Gerard Mayo will probably come on this show at 9.30 this morning and
00:15tell us that Jacoby Brissette is still your starting quarterback.
00:19The best part about the game was it was great background noise for people to fall asleep to.
00:23Like, New England, I could hear everybody snoring. It was sad to watch.
00:28Yeah.
00:28Not, there wasn't a part, start to finish that I was like,
00:32here's a little bit of hope. Zero.
00:34No, there was none at all.
00:36I don't think I've ever had that experience where I was legitimately offended by what I saw.
00:44Where you have the fumble, the pick six, and I'm sitting there and I'm like,
00:49this was all known to Robert Kraft. Everybody looked at this offensive line and said,
00:57if they lose Andrews, they're already cooked.
01:01The injuries are not unexpected on the offensive line. It's just how bad are you going to get hit?
01:07Every year, every team suffers one to two catastrophic injuries among the five offensive
01:13linemen. And you watch that and Robert Kraft has the audacity to be bitching to people
01:19about getting into the hall of fame, four straight years, one in three,
01:23one common denominator, the owner and cheaping out on this team.
01:28There's no other reason way to describe it. They elected to force their fan base to watch
01:34that product yesterday. And it is pathetic. It is so pathetic. Look at all the teams
01:41that have rebuilt once or twice in the last five years.
01:45It is. You talk about the pick six. That is from a veteran quarterback.
01:50Unacceptable. Not acceptable in any way, shape or form.
01:55Ramond Ray Stevenson with another fumble yet again. That's four and four games.
02:02That is unacceptable. It is. And you're right, Curtis, there's some dereliction of duty there
02:08when you lose Trent Brown and you don't do anything really to replace him or
02:15care about what your offensive line is going to look like.
02:18And how do you expect going into the season with Jacoby Brissett that you're not going to need to
02:25have an extraordinary offensive line in some way, shape or form?
02:28And even without watching our game, watching the other games around the league where most of the
02:34teams are sitting at two and two, like you look around the league besides the Chiefs and besides
02:38the Seahawks and besides the Vikings, nobody else is undefeated. Everybody is kind of having these
02:43random losses, these upsets. But watching the teams that have beat our team and then
02:49how bad they look against other teams that aren't that much better, like the Jets.
02:54Yeah, it's just it makes us look so much worse.
02:57That was so great, that Jets loss. But yeah, you're right. And I would say this as well.
03:02The watching the B.C. football team is my my whole life. You would watch B.C. at noon
03:09and then at three thirty you'd put on CBS and you'd see Alabama and you'd be like,
03:13this isn't even the same sport. Watching the Patriots offense and every other offense in
03:19the NFL, it's like watching those godawful B.C. teams where a completed pass is caused
03:25for celebration. Yeah, well, the way I look at it, I blame Robert not for the fact that he didn't
03:31want to spend money because we know they went after Brandon. I blame him for hiring Elliott
03:37Wolfe and putting Elliott Wolfe in the position of not saying we need to do something with the
03:43offensive line or saying, you know what, we don't like what's available out there in the offensive
03:50line. So we're just going to kind of go like, you know, to the flea market shopping for a
03:56couple of offensive linemen because we don't really think there's anything worth spending
04:00money on in the old line. I blame him. Wait, but who hired Elliott? That's what I said. I
04:04blame Robert for hiring Elliott Wolfe. So you think Elliott Wolfe didn't want to spend money
04:08this offseason? I think that Elliott Wolfe got to a position and they kind of said this a little bit
04:14when it happened with the Calvin Ridley thing, if you listen closely, where they kind of said,
04:19we like him, but we don't think he's worth that type of money. Calvin Ridley was at the end of
04:25the offseason. You had the entire offseason to build the offensive line. Yes, and I think what
04:30they did or what Elliott Wolfe did with the offensive line, I don't think he felt like
04:35there was guys out there worth spending money on. So they cheaped out because we know they were
04:41willing to spend money on it because they were willing to make Brandon Ayuk the highest paid
04:45wide receiver, give him what, 85 million? Just because I put my hand on my wallet when the
04:49bill comes doesn't mean I'm willing to spend money. I'm right here, Curtis. I am right here.
04:55That's all we can go on. No, we go on what they actually spent, not who they reportedly wanted
05:00but what I'm saying is we can only go on that they had the best offer out there for Ayuk.
05:06I don't care about that at all. I really don't. I think that the way this team
05:09built their roster this offseason was- And Elliott Wolfe misappropriation of being to
05:16evaluate talent out there. And I think Elliott Wolfe said, we are not going after, we don't
05:24think there is any top tier offensive lineman. That's why they went after the kid who was the
05:29kid that they, the one free agent they went after. Basically they were shopping in the
05:34bog and bin when it came to Owen Lyman. But Curtis is right. It's really,
05:38and I understand your question and we can talk about it all morning.
05:41It's on the owner. I mean, I don't think it's on anybody else.
05:44Well, that's what I said for hiring Elliott Wolfe.
05:46Well, yeah. But he also is the decider. I don't care
05:50what you say. There's no more silos.
05:53Who signs the check. It is all on Robert Kraft. And it can't be on Robert Kraft when things are
05:58going well and not when- I don't know what you guys want. You either
06:01want an owner that stays out of it or you want an owner that gets his nose in it. So if Robert-
06:06No, I want an owner that puts a lot of money into the roster.
06:08Right. But if an owner says, Hey, I'm hiring you to go out there and get players. And then this
06:14GM, Elliott Wolfe goes, well, you know what? There's no one really worth spending on in the
06:19offensive line market. We're going to kind of, you know, we're going to go the lower route of
06:24signing guys. And that effect, the owner is basically like, okay, I'm taking what you're
06:29telling me and going with it. You want the owner to come down and go, no, we need to be signing
06:34this guy. I want there to be a difference when signing guys compared to the Bill Belichick
06:38approach, because that's what Kraft told us it would be. And it would be different than what
06:42we've seen in the past. Things were going to be different around here. And I haven't seen
06:45any difference. And I would also add that I hate when powerful people act like they are powerless
06:53and Robert Kraft would have you believe that he's the most powerful, powerful owner in all of the
06:58NFL. Yet when it comes to his roster, he's taking orders from Elliott Effing Wolf. Give me a break.
07:06The product is unwatchable. It's awful. It's a disgrace. And I would imagine that come Sunday,
07:13I mean, I guess the weather's going to be great. And I mean, it's NFL football on a Sunday. So I,
07:19there will be some people here, but I can't imagine after that, what you saw yesterday
07:26on the heels of what you saw Thursday night, the prior against the jets and short of
07:34Gerard Mayo coming on this show at nine 30 this morning and saying that Drake May is the starter
07:39that there are going to be an awful lot of people here against the Dolphins on Sunday.
07:44I don't, I mean, it's unwatchable. I was in Southie last night and I saw people out and about
07:52like there was nothing going on in the world. The Patriots have made their team disappear.
07:58And I don't begrudge anybody turning this team off. What you saw yesterday was the end result
08:05of an off season where your organization said we were starting a new day, building the foundation
08:11of the next long dynastic run. We all hoped what's the foundation of a football team.
08:17Uh, I, I would say it's your quarterback. I would say it's the offensive line because you need to
08:22protect everything. It's the, it is the most important, the two lines in the NFL protect
08:28the most important thing. So how do you conduct a rebuild if you don't have a foundation and I
08:34don't care what they say, Wiggy, I don't disagree with what you're saying that Elliot will probably
08:38thought people were going to be overpaid at Heim. Bloom was stuck to numbers in baseball.
08:42Maybe that's what he's doing on May 10th. You looked at this offensive line and you said,
08:47that's not an NFL ready offensive line. You had ample time and opportunity, but that's on Elliot
08:52Wolf. You know why I put it on him? I put it on the guy. That's why I said, I blame Robert Kraft
08:58for hiring Elliot Wolf, because I don't think Elliot Wolf is good enough. And here's the reason
09:03I know that it's on Elliot Wolf. When you look at free agency, I mean, not free agency, but when
09:09you look at the quarterback situation, they had a couple opportunities, whether it was to go get
09:14Russell with Wilson, whether or not you like them or not, whether it was to go get Justin Fields,
09:20what did they do Lamar Jackson? No, no, no. I'm just talking about those lower level backup
09:25quarterbacks. What did they do? They went out and got Jacoby percent. Where did you call me?
09:31The bargain bin. No, no. Where did he come from? He came from Cleveland with Alex Van Pelt. He had
09:38a relationship with who has a relationship with Alex Van Pelt, Elliot Wolf. So Elliot Wolf is
09:44building this offense around guys that him and Van Pelt are looking at. Because when you looked
09:51at the free agent quarterback market, you could have went out and got Flacco. You could have
09:56tried to go get Russell Wilson. You could have. There was a number of guys that were better than
10:01Jacoby percent. But because Elliot Wolf empowered Alex Van Pelt, they brought in Cleveland guys.
10:08So when I look at this, I blame Kraft for hiring him because I think Elliot Wolf goes,
10:13hey, Robert, there's no one really worth spending the money on in the offensive line
10:18area. But we're going to sign a few of these lower level guys. And I put the old line problems at the
10:24foot of him. I that's where I blame Robert. I don't blame Robert for not spending the money
10:29because you can't tell me all these rumors and all these people that know. Well, like the Patriots
10:34were willing to spend more money for Brandon Iuke. But in the actual free agency, I'm not talking
10:40about August. I'm talking about over the course of the NFL free match in April. Did you ever hear
10:46the Patriots and on number one level caliber players across the NFL? No, they were never
10:51engaged. Well, just that Calvin Ridley stuff. And then they came on and said, well, you know,
10:55Gerard Mayo came on and said, we like Calvin Ridley or there's guys out there, but maybe we
11:01don't feel like this guy is worth that type of money. That's their evaluation. And to be clear
11:06on this argument, you're when you refer to Robert Kraft hiring Elliot Wolf, you mean elevating
11:12Elliot? Well, elevating. He's been here. He's been here for two years. Right. Bill actually
11:17hired him. Right. And I would say I actually respect Elliot Wolf for this. He's hired a
11:22coaching staff where he won't have to replace anyone when they take a head coaching job elsewhere.
11:28Well, bit of a cold wiki. No. Oh, you sound a little bit. He's worked up this. Yeah. Coaches
11:34fired up. Well, this team sucks. I was I was at the daily catch watching the game with some friends
11:39and in the third quarter, ding, ding, ding it up. I don't eat. I don't know what I just had a Caesar
11:46salad. Then I mean, that's when I go to a seafood restaurant. There's anchovies sometimes. Yeah,
11:52but I don't I make sure they don't put them on. But it was like after the big catch or the
11:57interception by Jabril Peppers, somebody was like, yeah, can you change this game and put the Kansas
12:02City game on? So, yeah, I mean, I wasn't fighting it. I was like, all right, let's watch the Kansas
12:08City game. Well, it's a Patriots Monday and we are at Gillette Stadium.
