00:00Hello and welcome to Most Haunted. We're about to embark on one of television's most extensive
00:11investigations into the paranormal. We guarantee no tricks, no camera illusions and no practical
00:18jokes. If we find nothing, then you'll see nothing. But if we do manage to catch anything
00:24at all, we will share it with you honestly and leave it up to you to make up your own mind.
00:29While we're in the West Country, we came across one of the strangest hauntings we've ever heard
00:55of and just had to investigate. We've come to Athelhampton Hall near Dorchester to spend 24
01:01hours in search of the truth. There's been a manor at Athelhampton for over a thousand years,
01:14but parts of the present building date back to the Middle Ages. Its history is a chequered one.
01:19From a fine manor house, it fell into disrepair as a tenant farm, but was restored to its former
01:25glory by the Cook family who still live here today. If the books are anything to go by,
01:30Athelhampton is one of the ten most haunted houses in England. This is no ordinary haunted
01:42house and the brave souls that will be spending the night with me to face the unknown are the
01:46crew. Here they all are. Say hello crew. They've got no idea what they're letting themselves in
01:52for. Now if we do catch any paranormal activity on camera, somebody that will be looking for hard
02:01evidence is of course our parapsychologist Jason Carl. Now Jason, what sort of things do you try
02:06to find? Well we're looking for hard evidence Yvette. I mean I'm not looking for anecdotal
02:11encounters of people saying they've seen something. I want corroborated evidence. So that's things on
02:16equipment, that's two or three people seeing the same thing at once. So what sort of equipment are
02:20you going to be using tonight? Well today one of the things that I want to focus on is the EMF
02:26meter. This is the most common ghost hunting gadget that you can get really. This tests the
02:31electromagnetic field which exists everywhere. Everything has a field which is quite low. If the
02:36field rises this will tell us that and if I can rule out any natural reasons for the rise in the
02:42EMF fluctuations that may indicate that a ghost or spirit or something anyway is happening. Now
02:48there's supposed to be seven ghosts here and one of them is an ape. That's right. It's an
02:54unusual one. I mean most people think of ghosts as being humans, people walking around. But there
02:58are just as many reported sightings of alleged ghost encounters of animals, also even of
03:03transportation, buses and cars and of houses as well. So it's not just humans. Also is it true to
03:08say that ghosts don't like lights? Well if you accept that ghosts exist we can only look at it
03:14from statistics and over the last 10 years we have seen through investigations that we've done
03:18all over the world that more unusual occurrences or unexplained occurrences occur when the lights
03:23are off. So yes if you want something to happen in order to increase the likelihood you turn the
03:29lights off. Now we're going to be meeting our spiritual medium Derek Okora later on. What are
03:32you going to be looking for in Derek? I'm going to be looking for Derek to come up with names,
03:37dates, precise and small details which may seem irrelevant that we can check. Things that he
03:42couldn't have known in advance. I mean Derek doesn't know where he's coming. So we need very
03:45small intricate pieces of information that he couldn't possibly have known and which I can
03:49check with the owner and later on perhaps then that will show that what he's doing is something
03:53other than remembering facts. We want more evidence than that. And of course he is the last member of
03:58our team and is actually on his way to the location now and we've given him no information
04:03whatsoever of Athelhampton Hall. So it's going to be very very interesting to see what he comes up
04:07with. Well the Cook family moved here in 1957. My grandfather bought the house. He was a surgeon
04:19by profession but he wanted to retire to a house where he could house his antiques collection and
04:23I think he had a taste for something a little bit different as well. Having lived here for 30 years
04:31there have been certain spine-chilling moments. I don't think I've ever seen a ghost myself but I do
04:38sort of feel the place has quite a presence and even my son who's aged three has already picked
04:44up certain sort of vibes about certain bits of the house being spooky. It all started when I was
04:51pregnant with our first little boy George and what worried me most is that it was actually seemed to
04:58be very much concentrating on me and it was a constant presence all the time. I suppose you
05:03could argue I was emotional and hormonal and everything else but it got very very oppressive.
05:09I had terrible nightmares. I couldn't sleep at night. The first time I put him in his cot when
05:17he was three weeks old I bent over the cot and I felt something touch me on my shoulder and that
05:23really frightened me. I actually asked somebody to to bless that part of the house and find out
05:30what it was and she found that it was a child, a little girl. She said that she thought it was
05:37probably 16th century this little girl and yes I thought that was actually quite sad that it
05:43had gone on that long without anybody sort of doing anything about it and yet also quite
05:50pleased and thankful that I had actually asked even I felt a bit stupid at the time. Plenty of
05:57people have told me they've sort of seen things but I think that they always have a little bit
06:01of a wry smile when they say it but the monkey is the ghost that sort of always intrigues me
06:08because this idea of a little pet monkey used to roam around the house quite free and then when
06:15the Martins died he was looking for his new master I find that quite quite spooky. Patrick's a cynic
06:22anyway so he's kind of not open to anything whereas I'm a little bit more I believe more
06:31about ghosts and things. This is the Great Hall and it's the oldest room in the house. Now it used to be
06:48used as the living room, the dining room and the bedroom by every member of the household. Now
06:53there's supposed to be two ghosts here seen in the evening time fighting a duel before they both sit
06:58down to have an evening meal together. This tiny chapel has been described as the epicentre of
07:13paranormal activity of this particular building. One theory is it's the gateway from this world
07:20to the next. The most unusual ghost here at Athelhampton Hall is that of an ape. Now it was
07:29the family pet of the Martins in the 1500s and the story goes that the ape was trapped in a
07:34secret passageway behind the walls and often it can be heard scratching to get out. The most
07:43reported ghost here is that of the Grey Lady who walks through the passageways and comes into this
07:48bedroom. A housemaid once mistook her for a member of the public and when she asked the Grey Lady to
07:53leave she obligingly stood up and disappeared through the wall. Our spiritual medium Derek
08:04Okora had arrived. Now remember he's been given no prior information about the whereabouts or
08:09history of Athelhampton. Just to get us all in the mood what could be better than ghost stories
08:15around the fire and to ask questions that intrigue some members of the crew. Derek do you
08:20think it's a good idea to have your house blessed? Well I personally don't believe that this should
08:26be moved on. I would say leave it to them whether they want to move on or not as long as they're
08:32not hurting us or bothering us and we're quite happy for them to be around us. It's interesting
08:38as well that you ask whether it's a positive thing or not and if you look at case histories
08:44where people have had a house blessed or exorcised in a lot of cases the people have reported that
08:50in fact it has disturbed them, hasn't moved them on. To give them a blessing is all fair and well
08:55if that's your belief but it may not be the religious beliefs or spiritual beliefs of the
09:01person who is the ghost. They resent it because you know they look at themselves generally nine
09:09out of ten. They know they've left the physical body, they're in the spirit body but they know
09:15they still exist. Is it true that animals can actually see ghosts or is that just a myth?
09:19Oh it's not a myth Rick, it's very true because they've not got the intellect and don't use the
09:26brain like us people and they go off their pure senses anyway. Can I interrupt you? I'm sorry but
09:31can you just look at Alfie? What is he looking at because he's not looking at me and I know that
09:35sounds bad but he's looking in between me and Rick. Yes he's transfixing his eyes isn't he?
09:40He's aware, look at him. He's seeing an ape, it's an ape, it's a monkey. Sorry take that off Sam,
10:03take it off. Where is it? It's there but by you. There's a monkey here. He's seen it. He's
10:20zoomed in on you. There's no shadow there now. Derek I'm sorry I have to sort of say it's a
10:31bit bizarre all of a sudden you're jumping up saying he's seeing a monkey. Do you see all kinds
10:39of animals then? Very much so and you know where we're talking about dogs, this particular lovely
10:44dog Alfie here was reacting as an animal reacts to another animal, not as an animal acts to a
10:51human being and this when Jason was trying to break his eyesight, another animal looking at
10:59another animal it'll do exactly what he's done. Don't look to keep the eye on the animal as if
11:06they're hunting them and what have you and he most definitely has seen that monkey shown itself there
11:11in between both yourself and Rick. He's seeing something and that's a fair comment. He's seen
11:17the monkey. To say he's seeing a monkey is, I mean perhaps you are seeing that. To say that the dog
11:22is seeing the same thing as you is perhaps a little bit of a big slip. He's seen something.
11:29You have to remember though that this is an unusual situation for him as a dog. He's been normal all of a sudden.
11:39As soon as you mentioned that one question and then he pipes up like that. A moment ago he was looking over.
11:52Suddenly Derek appeared to be influenced by the spirit of the monkey known as the Martin's Ape.
12:15Although Jason was not convinced by Alfie's behavior, the crew had high hopes for our 24
12:20hours. We had no idea of what was in store. It's a little bit funny but it's fine. I mean it's not scary, it's a little bit weird.
12:30I'm dying to say something. It's not happened to me yet.
12:35This was the first time the crew had spent the night in a haunted house. It was time to start the investigation.
12:50I'm Martin, who are you? Who are you? I'm Jason, hello Martin. Where's Robert? Robert who? My son. What year is it? 1605. 1605?
13:13Yes, can't you hear me? Who is on this throne? Find out yourself. Who do you think you are?
13:25Derek appeared to have been taken over by a spirit called Martin. Now you'll sometimes hear Derek referring to Sam.
13:31He's a spirit being who gives information to Derek from people who have departed from this world and wish to communicate with the living.
13:38When Derek is seemingly influenced by spirit energy, Sam protects Derek to ensure he comes to no harm.
13:47Derek, guided by Martin's spirit, was leading us through the house.
13:51Take it off. Take it off me, please.
13:56There you go.
14:06That's stopped now.
14:08That was very energetic.
14:10I mean, it just, I'm sorry. It's just, I didn't expect, it was like being helped to, in other words I think I was being cajoled.
14:25Into listening and then suddenly to come too close to me and just express whoever, what they wanted to say.
14:38And it's a new way, this, even to my experience. It's not damaging, it's not hurtful, but it's just a little bit overpowering with me.
14:48It's very interesting to watch.
14:49Is it?
14:50Well, yeah.
14:56In this lovely building there are four ladies, like sisters. They're very close to each other.
15:02And two of them come here, two of them.
15:07Not four, but two come in visitation.
15:11They talk about meeting, although I don't feel she's connected, the older lady.
15:17Quite often they pass each other by.
15:21I just feel as if I'm being drawn by the elder lady to a bedroom.
15:26Right.
15:27And it may be of interest, you know.
15:29Hopefully.
15:38The lady walks the stairwell. She walks the stairwell.
15:42Which way is it?
15:44I can't at this moment determine this.
15:51Do you have like a mental picture?
15:53Yes, it's like as if she doesn't...
15:56This may sound corny, but as her movements, maybe because of the distance, I don't know, of flooring or what have you, to the naked eye, I feel that if she was seen, she would be looking as if she was not walking down, but floating down the stairwell at times.
16:16And I feel very, very in her dress, long dress, but very, not bright, very drab.
16:23Very drab.
16:27Not a brown, not a grey, and in between.
16:31A mucky colour.
16:32Yes.
16:34And she often walks here.
16:39And, yes, I've got to go to her bedroom.
16:43There or there?
16:44Can I walk both?
16:45You can just walk both ways.
16:47Come on then.
16:57Two of these ladies, they come here, and one of them is one of the ladies that walks the stairs.
17:04She walks the passageways.
17:07One of these two sisters.
17:09She does it purposely.
17:11And stays out of sight, I believe.
17:14And William Martin walks here as well.
17:17William Martin.
17:23In actual fact, Sam says, this really belongs to William.
17:29What belongs to William?
17:31This building.
17:32The house?
17:33The house.
17:34Belongs to him, in his heart.
17:42What is that noise?
17:43Shh, shh.
17:46It's the cot.
17:47It's the cot rocking.
17:48Oh my God.
17:50Fortunately, we did pick up the sound of the cot rocking in the next bedroom, even though it's very quiet.
17:56And Andrea actually saw it move on its own.
18:07How is it rocking?
18:10No, but it wasn't doing it like that.
18:12It was going very definite.
18:14Yeah, I heard it in there as Ebby said it.
18:17As soon as I looked at it, it was doing it, and then it stopped.
18:20No, it wasn't doing it fast.
18:22It was doing it much more slowly.
18:24Yeah.
18:26God, I heard that.
18:28I heard that.
18:30I heard that.
18:32She said it.
18:35It was like that.
18:38It was doing it definitely with quite a bit of control.
18:41With control, yeah.
18:42And that's a heavy cot, so you'd need a lot of physical strength.
18:45We didn't catch it.
18:47Andrea, where she was stood, there was no one else around except for us three and the camera people in the other rooms.
18:50There can't have been anyone in here.
18:52There's nowhere they could have gone.
18:53I did hear the noise.
18:54We all heard it, didn't we?
18:55I heard it.
18:56But do you know something?
18:57And I'm not adding this in, but when I heard the thing, I don't know whether it was your...
19:01Did you cry out?
19:03Did you go, ah, or anything?
19:05Well, I just said, oh, it's the cot rocking.
19:07No, before that, because I...
19:08Did you hear it?
19:09It was like a child's cry or a...
19:11Like a woman's cry.
19:12Like a woman, like a, ah, or something like that.
19:14They are really trying, and you know, it's quite a lovely, active home.
19:20I've always... I've never liked that cot.
19:22I've always had a really funny feeling about it.
19:24What's the history of it? Do you know at all?
19:25I don't know.
19:26I think it's original to this house.
19:27It is.
19:28And the one who walks, of the daughters, that belongs with her.
19:32So this is definitely connected to one of the sisters?
19:34Yes.
19:35Yes.
19:36Derek had mentioned that the lady on the stairs seemed to be hovering above the step level.
19:41Andrea thought she could explain why.
19:43I feel that if she was seen, she would be looking as if she was not walking down, but floating down.
19:49I was listening to what you were saying about the fact that her levels are wrong to the floor.
19:55It's because this, going back that way, this house is 19th century, this wing.
20:01But also, this going to here is slightly earlier than that.
20:05Yes.
20:06But the staircase is only from the 60s, because Patrick's father put that in.
20:09It used to be spiral before that.
20:11I think stone to start with, and then wood to the top floor.
20:15And he took it out and put that reclaimed Jacobean thing in, so that would be right.
20:20So the stairs, that's why she...
20:22The heights are wrong.
20:23It would give me the impression as if she's floating and not walking.
20:25Shall we turn the lights off?
20:27Let's put the lights out. Let's go for it.
20:31As Jason mentioned earlier, having the lights off would hopefully encourage more paranormal activity,
20:37and it seemed some members of the crew were feeling uneasy.
20:41What are you sensing?
20:43I don't want to go in there.
20:45I don't like it.
20:47I just went in here then, assuming it'd come from that side, and I've just walked in there,
20:51and it just feels absolutely awful, and I cannot go in there.
20:55Where do you feel awful?
20:57As Rick was so unsettled by his feelings about the doorway, Jason and Derek came to investigate.
21:02Down here, down here.
21:07Oh, yes, look.
21:09Just to the back of your car.
21:11There's a man there, just to the doorway.
21:14I can't go in there.
21:16There he is.
21:17Just to your right.
21:19That's there, in that section there, yes.
21:22Right there.
21:23You're not sensing him at all?
21:25There he is.
21:26You mean on this?
21:27Yeah.
21:28No.
21:29Sam, who is he?
21:31Who is this man?
21:35Oh, right, okay.
21:37It's just...
21:38Say it again.
21:39How do I pronounce that?
21:41Okay.
21:44De La Fontaine.
21:46De La?
21:47It's a D.
21:49It sounded like De La Fontaine.
21:53La Fontaine.
22:00When?
22:02Okay, that's him.
22:04He walks round, okay.
22:06That's who Rick was sensing.
22:09What are you feeling when you walk forward?
22:11I don't like it.
22:12What is it you feel?
22:13What is it you don't like?
22:14What is it? Explain.
22:15It just doesn't feel right.
22:17I can't feel anything.
22:19Fine, Rick, you can't feel it.
22:21I went round there and it just felt absolutely awful.
22:24It feels like...
22:25And then it keeps coming back and forth.
22:27I can't describe it.
22:28It's like a...
22:29It's like a real get out.
22:30Yeah, it's like a depressing thing that just comes upon me.
22:33I just can't be near it.
22:34And it's whenever I go further down.
22:36But it comes to me and then it'll go.
22:38And that's why I said I'll go down there and it just happened again.
22:41That's what I was talking about.
22:42I was actually holding on to the wall there because it was just like...
22:45It was just like something's...
22:47Something's gritching.
22:48Is it something...
22:49Is it frightening?
22:50Yes, it is frightening.
22:51Why? Why are you scared of it?
22:53It's the feeling.
22:55I can't describe...
22:56It is, it's the feeling, but it's like...
22:58Whatever it is doesn't want me there.
23:01And you felt the same thing?
23:02Literally, I was holding on to the wall at one point
23:04and as soon as I saw Mark was there with the camera,
23:06I just... I knew he had a shot.
23:08It's interesting that you both picked up on the same thing.
23:14One caught rocking by itself,
23:16one ghostly presence spreading fear and dread
23:19and a whole night ahead of us in the dark rooms of Athelhampton Hall.
23:23Derek now headed towards the tiny chapel,
23:25the scene of many spirit encounters.
23:29It's...
23:48Ralph Banks likes this room.
23:50Ralph Banks.
23:52Oh, yes.
23:58George Wood.
24:07George Wood.
24:09George Wood.
24:13It hasn't been over long, Derek.
24:15I can't see him.
24:16Does that mean he passed recently?
24:18Yes, it's not long ago.
24:29There's something wrong with my legs.
24:31Do you want to sit down? There's a chair just here.
24:33Yeah, OK, thank you.
24:35This is what makes me feel as if I'm...
24:39I've balanced on my legs here.
24:44What was making Derek feel unsteady on his legs?
24:47When the feeling passed,
24:48he wanted to return to the ground level of Athelhampton Hall.
24:55Oh, I'm stuck.
24:58This is Jack's place.
25:01Who's Jack?
25:02He's...
25:04Come on, then, show yourself. I heard you.
25:07Come on, Jack.
25:09I know you're here.
25:10Come on, show yourself.
25:12Oh, there he is. There he is.
25:14This man is about five foot two, no taller.
25:17He's got this very...
25:19to here.
25:22It's like leather.
25:24It goes all the way down
25:26to the boots and the legs and what have you.
25:28And it's like barrels.
25:30What do they call that?
25:32It's like a cooper.
25:35This is his area. This is Jack's area.
25:40And I'd be absolutely stunned,
25:45speechless, so to speak,
25:47if this man, through what I've just seen,
25:50and as I come into the atmosphere,
25:52if he wasn't sensed here.
25:54There is a story of a wine cooper being heard here.
25:57It's alleged to be a wine cooper.
25:59It's just a sound.
26:00It's Jack.
26:01Very real.
26:02Let's look where you say he usually is.
26:04Here.
26:06See, we take this away here.
26:08And all this area here,
26:10which is different than this.
26:12And this was his place.
26:14Why is he still here?
26:15He's still here.
26:16I feel that he comes back.
26:18He's not always here.
26:21He comes back in memory, if you like,
26:24because I feel this work that he did,
26:27he took such a,
26:28because I feel in his essence here,
26:30the exuberance of pride.
26:33Oh, you know, he felt as if he was above
26:36a lot of people in his expertise.
26:39But also, I get around the same time as Jack
26:43of two men unhappy with each other.
26:47Two men unhappy.
26:48And one of them saying,
26:49that's it.
26:51You go.
26:53And I challenge you.
26:55And it's like,
26:56and they were in earnest, these two.
26:59They wanted to hate each other.
27:01And it was like the feeling of,
27:04you know, walking.
27:07And these are the feelings.
27:08That's why my legs left me before.
27:10Because one of the men was worried
27:13his legs went to jelly.
27:15And he had to turn around
27:16and walk this way opposite to turn around
27:20and put these guns in.
27:21One of them was so gutless
27:27that he decided he would take the challenge on.
27:31But as he turned and walked,
27:33his legs fatally went to jelly.
27:35He didn't want to do it.
27:36And I don't feel that the duo
27:38actually brought a fatality.
27:41I don't feel that there was a fatality with this.
27:46Just sort of do what you were saying.
27:48Is this sort of like a residual haunting?
27:51Thank you, Sam.
27:52Civil war time.
27:55Right.
27:56It's residual.
27:57Connected to that.
27:58Yes.
27:59It's residual.
28:00It is not two individual spirits coming back
28:04and wanting to show that.
28:06That is residual.
28:08Jack returns.
28:10And Jack takes great pride and commitment.
28:13And a nice man.
28:14No negativity about him.
28:19Derek wanted to go upstairs
28:21and find a secret passageway.
28:23He was getting information from his spirit guide Sam
28:26about the legend of the trapped monkey,
28:28Martin's ape.
28:30This is the stairwell down.
28:32And the monkey needs to go.
28:36I need to go into the cellar.
28:39I can feel the essence of him.
28:46It seems that this monkey was used to
28:50being looked after, cared for.
28:53He had a master.
28:55And there was one daughter who tried
28:58to apparently, you know, befriend.
29:02But the reason why the monkey
29:05The reason why the monkey still to this present day
29:09roams is because he's not linked up with his master again.
29:13He misses him.
29:15And he's going through all this.
29:18But he's a kindred animal.
29:19A lovely, placid animal.
29:22And you know...
29:31I have a lot.
29:34Scratching.
29:35People have reported hearing a scratching noise
29:38which they put down to the legend of the monkey.
29:41It's the monkey doing it.
29:43Not because the monkey's distressed or feeling jammed.
29:47The monkey's doing this just to
29:50I suppose a gesture to say, hey, I'm around, you know.
29:53The story has it the monkey was locked inadvertently
29:55in this staircase with somebody else
29:57and it couldn't escape and starved.
29:59And that's why it's scratching in an attempt to get out.
30:01No. I beg to differ on that.
30:02That monkey had the freedom to come up and down, up and down.
30:05And he didn't leave his own physical body here.
30:11But it wasn't a case of being jammed.
30:13And I don't feel in any way, shape or form
30:17as if this monkey was distressed before leaving its physical body.
30:23Let's go and have a break.
30:27With Derek's insistence that the history was wrong
30:29about the famous Martin's ape
30:31the night was taking an interesting turn.
30:35In the early hours of our night at Athelhampton Hall
30:38most of the crew had retired to bed.
30:40That left just a few of us to continue our hunt.
30:43We decided to split into two groups
30:45covering two sections of the house.
30:49I don't think, to be honest,
30:51after what I went through before, the way I felt,
30:55it can get any worse than that, so bring it on.
30:58As for me, like Rick, we had a bit of a strange experience earlier.
31:04I feel like I've run a marathon.
31:06My legs are like, well, like lead.
31:10But I'm raring to go, actually.
31:12After feeling one or two experiences earlier on,
31:18seeing the cradle rock.
31:20Did you see it actually rock?
31:21I'd seen the end part of it, yeah.
31:23Wow. So you saw the movement on there?
31:25Yeah.
31:29Jason, the parapsychologist, Bev, our director, and myself
31:33decided to spend some time upstairs by the cot,
31:36which some of us had witnessed rocking by itself earlier in the night.
31:40I am that scared.
31:42You're all right. I don't know why.
31:44I don't know what it is about this house.
31:46It's a fear of the unknown. That's what people are scared of.
31:48It's a fear of the unknown. I don't know.
31:50And this is the unknown. Yes.
31:52And we've had a few things happen.
31:54And you're a bit shook up. Yes.
31:56I'm just...
32:00Jason decided to enter the chapel on his own.
32:03I'm coming into the psychic epicentre of Atherhampton Hall.
32:08And I actually find that image a lot more frightening
32:11than most images of ghosts or alleged spirits.
32:16There was a weird feeling here, like a...
32:21Like you'd stepped across a line, like you'd crossed something,
32:25like you were someone you shouldn't be.
32:28Sort of that feeling you get when you're a child,
32:31you've been naughty and you've done something wrong.
32:33And you get that sort of,
32:36I shouldn't be here.
32:38You see now, you see, it's got down to two of us.
32:42Think how he feels.
32:44You see, you've got darkness all around you,
32:48and I can't cope with that.
32:50This is the most haunted room. I really don't like it.
32:53The boys decided to go into the secret passage
32:55where the ape was supposed to have been trapped.
32:58It was very damp, cold and very dark.
33:05Do you mind if you sit on the floor, guys, in here for a little bit?
33:08Yeah, fine.
33:09I think this would be an interesting place,
33:11considering that you're supposed to be a monkey.
33:13I'm going to sit on these stairs.
33:16That's not proper, is it?
33:24Please try to show yourself to us if you can.
33:34That is right by my ear.
33:38There is something golden.
33:43There is something breathing on my ear.
33:49If you're behind there, try and show yourself.
33:51There is something definitely breathing on my ear.
33:55I don't mind. I don't feel threatened.
34:02Meanwhile, Jason had returned to join Bev and myself by the cot.
34:06During earlier filming, we had moved the cot from its usual location
34:10and it has come to the conclusion we might have caused offence.
34:14Perhaps whoever or whatever this is is annoyed that we moved it.
34:18We're very sorry if moving it wasn't a good idea.
34:21Another spark.
34:23We shouldn't have moved it.
34:26If we're right in the assumption that we shouldn't have moved the cot here
34:31and that you're displeased or upset that we've moved it for whatever reason,
34:36give us another sign with a flashing orb.
34:40Yes.
34:41Yes. Did you see that?
34:42Yes, I did.
34:46Thank you. So we shouldn't have moved the cot.
34:48I'm sorry that we moved it.
34:49I am.
34:50I'm sorry. We'll put it back.
34:51I think we should put it back soon.
34:53Yes.
34:55Well, it's just a very strange experience anyway.
34:59Jason's probably going to totally disagree with what I'm about to say.
35:02We've sort of struck up a kind of strange conversation with an energy around the cot.
35:07We're asking various questions such as,
35:11you didn't like us moving the cot,
35:13show us a light if you didn't and a light would suddenly flash.
35:17So what we're going to do is put the cot back into the state bedroom.
35:24Do you think I'm mad, Jason?
35:26No, I think, I mean, I'm not saying I agree with what your sort of temptation of the experience was,
35:31but watching the screen there and talking and me talking as well as watching you,
35:35there did seem to be some kind of interaction between the things we were seeing on screen and us,
35:39what that was.
35:43Downstairs in the secret passage,
35:45Carl had definitely felt someone or something breathing in his ear.
35:49Was it the ghostly monkey?
35:50I'm actually doing that.
35:52Hang on.
35:54Let's roll round here.
35:59I mean, if you come here now and just feel my ear,
36:03just feel how cold this ear is.
36:06It's freezing.
36:10Let me feel the other ear, what's that like?
36:15That's nothing like the other one, the other one's ice cold.
36:18This is like a constant.
36:25If I turn this back again now, it's doing exactly the same.
36:33Well, that's a first for me.
36:36There's something still very cold on the back of my neck.
36:41Was there someone or something keeping the boys company in the secret passage?
36:45Whatever it was, was definitely making them feel uneasy.
36:51Upstairs, we continued to keep vigil by the cot.
36:54Watch very closely around the bottom of your screen.
37:02What if it moved on its own?
37:05I'd be quite excited if it did.
37:08I've never actually seen an object move of its own accord.
37:10I've heard things moving,
37:12but I've never actually seen something with my own eyes moving.
37:15I've seen it on video.
37:16Wow, look at that.
37:17Now that, did you see the way that flickered as it came out?
37:19Yes.
37:20Because dust just moves erratically, it doesn't move in straight lines.
37:23Those are impressive.
37:25Although we didn't see the cot move,
37:27what we did see were these strange flashing lights.
37:31Have you ever seen anything like this before?
37:33No, I've seen what are termed orbs.
37:35They're the small round sort of globe type ones.
37:38But these ones, these flashing ones, are something new to me.
37:42I've never seen that before.
37:44Never.
37:46What are orbs anyway?
37:48Orbs are believed to be, by psychics and spiritual people,
37:53part of a ghost manifestation,
37:55the beginning stage of a ghost actually taking a human form,
37:58an apparition if you like.
38:00What we know of them scientifically is that we can't explain them,
38:03and that's all we know.
38:04Oh my gosh, look at that.
38:07Did you see that?
38:08I did, yeah.
38:11The reason that I'm particularly interested in that is because,
38:14as we said, we've had activity in that particular area,
38:17in this room, earlier on tonight.
38:20We all heard, or some of us heard, the cot rocking.
38:23I heard it rocking, and that was the weirdest thing I've ever heard.
38:28And then to see those sparkly lights.
38:32They are getting stronger.
38:33Whatever this is, it's getting stronger,
38:35because those two flashes that you saw there,
38:37they are much, much brighter than the ones five minutes ago.
38:42I can't explain them.
38:46Our first night in a haunted house had come to an end.
38:49It had encompassed fear and amazement,
38:52with a cradle that rocks on its own,
38:54flashing lights and strange feelings amongst the crew.
38:57We can definitely confirm that there's something strange
39:00going on at Athelhampton.
39:13Well, over the last ten years, I've taken part in hundreds, literally,
39:17of investigations of alleged supernatural or paranormal events,
39:20and most of the time, nothing happens at all.
39:23That dog was obviously seeing something strange.
39:25It was looking at something very intently,
39:27and when I moved my hand in front of its vision,
39:29it was straining to watch whatever it was looking at,
39:31and dogs don't do that normally, unless, you know,
39:33something is grabbing their attention, like another animal, for example.
39:36Now, Derek, the medium, said that the dog was looking at something
39:40at a phantom ape, of which there is a story attached to the house
39:43about a phantom ape, so that was interesting.
39:45But whether it was looking at an ape or whether it was just Yvette
39:48or the light or the cameras, which, of course, he's not used to,
39:51is a matter of personal opinion.
39:53For the first time ever, in my experience in mediumship,
39:57to actually not be taken over but semi-influenced
40:01by, would you believe it, an animal, and that animal being a monkey.
40:06I was afraid of trying to compose myself, trying to hold myself,
40:10and I thought I was going to be jumping up,
40:12making sounds like an ape and running around the room.
40:15And I thought, no, this can't be.
40:17It just can't be, you know, I'm in this beautiful home.
40:20What is a blinking ape monkey doing here?
40:23And he was an awesome-looking thing,
40:26and it's funny, he's shown himself earlier by the side of Yvette,
40:32and later, it was amazing what I saw,
40:35because, basically, he had a collar on later,
40:38but when I first saw him, he didn't, so I don't know what was behind that.
40:42Most strange, even, to me.
40:44We had a lot of unusual occurrences happen here,
40:46certainly a lot of absorbing things happening around us,
40:49which we couldn't explain at the time.
40:51Karl and Rick must have gone to an area
40:54where they were feeling these sensations before the rest of the crew.
40:58I just can't be near it, and it's whenever I go further down,
41:01but it comes to me, and then it'll go,
41:03and that's why I said, I'll go down there, and it just happened again.
41:06That's why I was actually holding onto the wall there,
41:09because it was just like this...
41:11It's just like something is gritching.
41:14It is known that that spiritual activity,
41:16whether it be negative or positive,
41:18the people to go into that atmosphere first will catch the brunt of that.
41:22Plus, well, I've found, since coming on the investigation,
41:25Karl and Rick are very sensitive,
41:27so, you know, it stands to reason, to me, it's going to...
41:30I don't like using the word wallop them,
41:32but can take you unawares,
41:34and this is why the feelings were coming to them, I feel.
41:36The most interesting thing to me that happened last night
41:39was the cradle moving, apparently of its own accord,
41:41because the architecture of the house is such that
41:43if it had been a human being and touched it or moved it,
41:45we would have heard them walk away,
41:47the floorboards make an awful lot of noise,
41:49and Andrea, who lives in Athelhampton Hall,
41:51was completely convinced by this,
41:53and I think her testimony and the look on her face as she watched it
41:56sort of convinced me almost that she was witnessing something unusual,
41:59and we couldn't explain how it started to rock,
42:01and three of us heard the noise, so that was interesting.
42:04Well, it's often said, you know, that the orbs are virtually the first stage
42:08or one of the first stages of build-up of spirit people
42:11just before the ectoplasmic stage,
42:14and often said the more orbs that come together,
42:17the more it can formulate and build the outline of that spirit entity.
42:21It's not necessarily paranormal.
42:23We link it to ghosts because it is only caught at the moment
42:26in places where ghosts have been seen, but we don't know what it is.
42:29The orbs that we caught last night, however, were not normal
42:32if there is such a thing as a normal orb,
42:34and they were moving very much like sort of electric lights
42:37moving across the screen and flashing, which I haven't seen before,
42:40and we have seen orbs in many places, but not like that.
42:43To see and experience different, to the physical eye as well,
42:47different types of orbs, such as, you know, flashing lights and what have you,
42:51is very, very, very good as far as I'm concerned,
42:54and, you know, put it down to this,
42:57they've tried very hard in their own way to show us,
43:00show us, you know, hey, we are around!
43:03And that's quite exciting to me.
43:0624 hours complete at Applehampton Hall,
43:09and there were some very strange occurrences last night
43:12that I don't think any of us will forget in a hurry.
43:15We shall see you on Most Haunted at the next location.
43:18Until then, sleep tight.
43:29I am rather scared.
43:31I don't know why. I don't know what it is about this house.
43:35I just don't want them sort of disturbed.
43:37No, I promise you.
43:39What I mean is that this is our home.
43:41Yes.
43:43It is not to disturb, OK?
43:45From the bottom of my heart, I promise, OK?
