Watch: Terang Mortlake's Sophie Curran on stepping away from football due to injury
Transcript
00:00Thanks for joining us Sophie. You won an award at the Rebels Best in Theracy the other night,
00:04can you explain that to us? Yes, I did. It was the Sean Kelly Personal Growth Award
00:09and it was to recognise my efforts in succumbing to trainings and some games whilst not playing any
00:15games due to different injuries. And your injuries have had a pretty big effect on you, can you tell
00:20us about that? Yes, so I injured my knee last year sort of at the start and we didn't figure out what
00:26it was until around September where I had an arthroscope and then this year the same thing
00:30happened to my other knee so I had another surgery about two months ago. And what does that mean for
00:35your playing career? It means I will no longer play football which is okay, I can't do anything
00:41about it so I'll find other things to do. How did you get your head around that big decision?
00:46Oh yeah, just well the fact that I can't do anything about it so just make the most of
00:51what I can do. And you've already jumped into a bit of coaching, what do you enjoy about that
00:55part of the game? Oh, I enjoy that I can give back and help use my knowledge. And you helped
01:00at the V-Line Cup which is one of the state under-15 competitions, what was that like?
01:05It was really, really fun. It was a great group of girls and the Rebels are going to have a very
01:09good team in the future with those girls coming through. And what particular role did you play?
01:14I was the backline coach. Is that predominantly where you played your football? Yes, with the
01:18Rebels that's where I spent a lot of time and got to learn a lot. And girls football in southwest
01:24Victoria is going from strength to strength, you're part of the Trag-Malt Lake program,
01:28where do you see it going in the future? I see it continuing to grow a lot. We do have a new
01:33coach coming in, Calvin Bell. I'm excited to see what he can bring to the team which
01:37I know he'll do a great job. Best of luck for the future. Thank you.
