00:00When you say a, u, ma, you have now described the mind in its totality.
00:12When you say a, u, ma, you have described the mind in its totality because the mind
00:18has no state other than these three.
00:24Having talked of these three, you have circumscribed the mind.
00:29This is where the mind exists, a, u, and ma.
00:34These are the three states of consciousness.
00:36The first one is the jagrat avastha, the waking state.
00:42In the waking state, you are somebody else.
00:47The Rishi realizes that with such intensity that he gives you a separate, dedicated name
01:01for your existence in the waking state.
01:04He says you should be called Vaishwanar.
01:08You should be called Vaishwanar.
01:12Because right now you are not what you would be in the u state or the ma state.
01:20In the dream or sushupti state, you will not be the same person at all.
01:27So those persons must carry a different name.
01:32Right now you must have a specific, particular name for your particular state of consciousness.
01:39In this state of consciousness, who are you?
01:42Vaishwanar.
01:43The one who is conscious of the vishwa.
01:49The one who lives in the vishwa.
01:50The one who is experiencing the vishwa.
01:53Vishwa means world.
01:57And he says you have your sense organs and you have these gates in the body, 7 and 19.
02:06Through these, you feel connected to the world.
02:11Through these, you feel that the world is coming to you and you are doing things to
02:16the world and in the world.
02:18This is the Vaishwanar state of consciousness.
02:24And then the moment you fall asleep, you are a totally different person now.
02:31So you must be given a different name.
02:33Now your name is Taijas and your state is Swapna Vastha.
02:39You are in a different world now.
02:43Your world has entirely changed.
02:46You no more carry the same personality as you did an hour back.
02:52Getting it?
02:58So that's the dream state.
03:04And then there is Ma.
03:10The state in which all the gross remnants of personality dissolve.
03:20All that remains is a stressless, tensionless relaxation.
03:32It can be called bliss.
03:34Because all the identities you carry, whether in dream or in waking, are just a kind of
03:44tension, irrespective of what the name of the identity is.
03:51In dreamless sleep, the greatest relief is that you have no name, no past, no future,
03:58no identity, nothing.
04:00There is just a void.
04:04The seed, the germ of your existence is still there.
04:11But in its most rudimentary, most basic, most primordial form.
04:20The seed form is there.
04:22But the seed has no expression, no manifestation in the dreamless state.
04:32However, since the seed is there, so the manifestation can take place when you are
04:41shaken out of your sleep.
04:44You have not totally gone away.
04:47You are still present, but highly dormant.
04:51You are deep asleep.
04:55That is the closest the ego can come to an experience of non-existence.
05:05Your dreamless moments.
05:08And then there is dissolution.
05:13Then there is dissolution.
05:16Then there is silence.
05:17That silence is the fourth quarter.
05:22So, OM.
05:29You see how the mer tapers into silence?
05:35You see how gradually and peacefully and musically it fades away?
05:42That's the reason why OM is pronounced in a specific way.
05:51Nothing mystical about it.
05:54You just want to be true to the word.
05:59You just want to be true to the word.
06:03True to what the word has been designed to communicate.
06:08So it's OM, going, going, going, and then gone.
06:18That's OM.
06:21So, three layers of mind, three states of mind rather, and then that which is the substratum
06:31of mind.
06:33Then that which exists irrespective of the mind.
06:37It is not really the fourth.
06:41It is actually the first and the last and the second and the third.
06:47It is everything.
06:49But, you know, when you are dealing in such arithmetical terms, then you have probably
06:56no option but to call it the fourth.
06:58It's not the fourth.
07:02It is the first and the fundamental one.
07:06That which we are calling as the fourth one here.
07:09The self.
07:10Atma or Brahm.
07:15Now, you know what OM stands for?
07:19OM is a remembrance that firstly, everything is mind and secondly, there is peace beyond
07:30the mind.
07:34And that has been remembered and captured very pithily in the form of OM.
07:43You see?
07:44How precise, how succinct it is.
07:46You just say OM, and you have captured everything.
07:51You have captured the essence of all reality.
07:55OM ends somewhere, right?
08:02What is it meant to remind you?
08:06You too have to end.
08:08Because you are a, u, and ma.
08:10For how long will you keep playing the game of a, u, and ma?
08:23Fade away.
08:24Fade away.
