Fighting Maroons tame Tigers  The UP Fighting Maroons moved on the cusp of a first round sweep after taming the UST Growling Tigers, 81-70, in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Oct. 2, 2024. Francis Lopez racked up 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks to pace the league-leading UP which stayed undefeated in six games. 00:00Coach Vincent, congratulations for this victory. You needed a strong second half to vent off the Gavi Tigers. What can you say about their team's effort in the second half?

00:10Much better, definitely. After allowing 23 points in the first quarter alone and then limiting them to 28 in the second half.

00:20Obviously, our second half was better in terms of effort and adjustments. It's really the players. They responded to all the things that Coach Gold told them to do, especially during halftime.

00:35This is a tough USC team, obviously a much better team compared to the last season. Just like any other team in the UEA game, you can always expect their game.

00:46So good to see them. Just fortunate that in the end, we were able to hold them down during the fourth quarter.

00:56Tomorrow, we have 16 points including back-to-back champs, chumpers midway to fourth, three rebounds, three assists, and one backstop.

01:06What can you say about your performance in the second half?

01:15Coach Gold told us to play smart. Based on their reactions, I was able to take advantage of their mistakes.

01:24Those things are inside of us. It just comes out in the game.

01:31Francis, you had 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. What can you say right now? We are now almost in the halfway mark of the eliminations.

01:42What do you see right now for the UEA team?

01:48There's still a lot to improve on. It's just the first round. At the same time, we have to get prepared for the process.

01:56We're working hard for this one. Every team is a tough team for us. You can't be complacent about any team.

02:05We just have to get it done this one. We're hoping that we can go all-in on this.
