00:00Italians and Biodiversity, knowledge still limited. Agriculture and sustainability, award to the most beautiful flowering fields.
00:22As you can see, the Futuro Findus has blossomed. The building of Piazza 24 Maggio in Milan is transformed into a colorful and scented place, full of beautiful flowers, which make a framework for workshops and activities aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of biodiversity.
00:39It is the Futuro Fiorito project, from 24 to 28 September in Milan.
00:44The Futuro Fiorito project is focused on one of our fundamental assets, which is the theme of sustainability.
00:51Within it, we have a series of initiatives, more of a production-based initiative, so sustainable agriculture practices, to reach more than 90%, as we are already at the moment, from the point of view of certified volumes at the plant level, with FSI-SAI certification.
01:11Obviously, with more challenging goals, to reach 100% by 2025, so it is a path that is continuing from our point of view.
01:18We also reason in the logic of biodiversity as a focus within sustainability.
01:23This initiative is aimed at telling and raising awareness among consumers, so people who want to participate in these workshops and will last all week, to tell what are the impacts of the operations that we can do from the point of view of biodiversity protection, at the level of fauna and flora, what are the impacts of climate change and how we can act, and what we do as an industry, to try to minimize the impacts from this point of view
01:51and even, where possible, to try to promote biodiversity.
01:55Biodiversity is a fundamental pillar for the planet, but how much do Italians know about it?
02:00FINDUS has commissioned an investigation into astro-research.
02:03From research, Italians and biodiversity, it emerged that an Italian out of two, 56%, admits to having fragmentary or non-existent information on the subject.
02:12More prepared is Gen Z, 57% declares to know enough.
02:17However, the research highlights a fact, for 92% of the interviewees it is necessary more education and awareness on the subject of biodiversity.
02:26This type of collective effort to make a complex topic such as biodiversity understood, however, cannot be left only to the school.
02:34Other actors can intervene, NGOs, associations, but also companies.
02:39And some, faster and more anticipated than others, are committed to this.
02:44And I think it's great news, and I also hope that this commitment of some companies can also reward them on the market, because it is an investment that is good for everyone.
02:54The agricultural company of Mirandola, in the province of Modena, Lorenzo Ferrarini, has been awarded the fourth edition of the Fiori del Mulino,
03:01the photographic competition of Mulino Bianco, which awards the agricultural company that is distinguished in cultivating the most beautiful flower field.
03:08A special edition that has seen the area dedicated to the flowers of the mill reach 2,000 hectares, a surface equal to more than 2,900 football fields.
03:17All participating companies adhere to the paper of the mill, the Sustainable Agriculture Disciplinary Board of Mulino Bianco,
03:24dedicated to wheat flour, which prescribes 10 rules that adhering farmers are committed to follow.
03:31Among the objectives of the paper is to allocate every year 3% of the wheat fields to flowers that promote pollination.
03:39After four years, we have achieved important results that we have measured with the University of Bologna,
03:45which has actually seen a significant increase in the number of insect pollinators.
03:52We are talking, for example, about 64% of bees, but also about the variety of insect pollinators.
03:59So absolutely important results for us, but above all it is an activity that allows us to involve our branch, starting from agricultural companies.
04:10And with the event we did today, we saw how much this event can involve all the generations that are part of these agricultural companies.
04:20So from parents to children who are involved in this commitment, let's say, in favor of biodiversity.
04:27The paper of the mill today involves more than 100 products of Mulino Bianco made with wheat flour, 100% sustainable agriculture.
04:35Agricultural companies that have joined the disciplinary board have gone from 500 to more than 2,000 today
04:41and in 2023 they have produced about 300,000 tons of wheat.
04:46The chef and pastry chef Damiano Carrara, who has been engaged in the promotion of sustainable cuisine, is an exceptional guest on the award day.
04:54Sustainability has certainly become a thing. I think it has entered people's homes, it has entered pastries in my field.
05:03Obviously, today, sustainability starts with the product and ends with the packaging, which in my opinion is very important.
05:09Being sustainable means making a product that allows you to save the future.
05:14Thanks to the mill paper, of course, the production of wheat flour is made in a sustainable way, as well as edible flowers and, of course, honey.
05:25These are the main ingredients that are part of my dessert that I have created today, but of what is a small step towards a sustainable future and a biodynamic production.
