00:00Under the new law, foreign companies that deliver digital services to the Philippines will be compensated

00:23Mang Ramon has been watching a streaming platform for a long time.

00:26He only gets P150 per month.

00:28He has already watched a lot of movies that are streamed.

00:32But it is possible that he is paying a subscription fee according to the BIR.

00:36President Marcos has added the value-added tax of VAT on digital services law

00:41that was signed by Senators Pia Cayetano and Senator Wayne Gatchalian and Congressman Joey Salceda under the law.

00:48The digital services providers will be compensated by 12% VAT

00:52Outside the country, such as search engines, cloud service, online streaming, and other online platforms and digital goods,

01:01even online marketplace or shopping platforms,

01:03will users be compensated for the added VAT?

01:07As to whether there will be a price increase, it doesn't necessarily follow.

01:12Of course, it would also depend on the... it's a business decision by the service provider.

01:20I think it would be minimal.

01:22It's not like they will automatically increase the VAT by 12%.

01:24I don't think it's necessary.

01:26For those who are poor, that's the only thing they can afford to watch.

01:31If they will add more VAT, it's like I can unsubscribe.

01:36It's possible if the VAT that they will give or add to the price is in exchange for additional services.

01:48According to President Marcos and the Department of Finance,

01:51because of this law, the government is expecting more than P100 billion in the next five years.

01:57This is enough to build 42,000 classrooms, more than 6,000 rural health units, 7,000 kilometers of farm-to-market roads.

02:07Five percent of the GDP in the next five years is determined by the law that will go to the creative industries.

02:14President Marcos clarified that this is not a new GDP.

02:17This business has been in place for a long time in local digital or online services.

02:21The law was just laid down as a mechanism for companies to close their online business in other countries.

02:27The company that does not comply with the law can be blocked by the BIR.
