00:00For the last 51 weeks, protesters have taken to the streets to oppose Israel's military
00:08action in Gaza, mostly without incident.
00:11Now police want the Supreme Court to ban them.
00:14This is a huge attack on our democratic right to protest.
00:17That's what they're trying to do and this comes from the police, but the police are
00:21also doing the kind of dirty work of the politicians and sections of the media.
00:26Hezbollah flags were spotted in the crowds in both Sydney and Melbourne on Sunday.
00:31Nineteen-year-old Sarah Muhanna has been charged with displaying a terrorist symbol after police
00:36made a public appeal.
00:38The Premier fears more flags could appear this weekend.
00:42The protest organisers didn't believe they were in a position to stop the waving of flags
00:46even from terrorist organisations on those streets.
00:51In New South Wales, protesters need a permit to demonstrate if they want certain legal
00:56protections.
00:57Police are opposing both Sunday's event and another planned gathering on October 7th.
01:01Well there certainly shouldn't be any protests on October 7th because it would be seen, I
01:08think, as incredibly provocative.
01:11We're calling it a candlelight vigil, it's a vigil for all those who have been killed
01:14over the last year.
01:15Of course that vigil will also raise our opposition to what's going on.
01:19To hold an anti-Israel protest on the first anniversary of October 7th, one of the greatest
01:23atrocities of modern history, is shameful.
01:26It's beyond the pale.
01:28Weighing heavily on the Premier's mind are the scenes at the Sydney Opera House last
01:31year.
01:32Chris Mins decided to light up the sails with the Israeli flag in an act of commemoration
01:37but it triggered heated demonstrations, some of which he says were thuggish and racist.
01:42I'm sorry, we have to prevent and take action to ensure that we don't see a repeat of that.
01:48Officers say their demonstrations are designed to be peaceful and they'll go ahead regardless
01:52of the court's decision.
