A 35-year-old babysitter claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh to a charge of neglecting a one-year-old toddler at a childcare centre in Semabok last year.

Siti Salwa Rezuan entered her plea before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah on Thursday (Oct 3).

00:00A 35-year-old babysitter claimed trial at the Malacca Sessions Court on Thursday
00:05to a charge of neglecting a one-year-old toddler at a childcare centre in Semabok last year.
00:11Based on the charge sheet, the accused, Siti Salwa Rezwan, as the caregiver,
00:17allegedly neglected and exposed the boy in a manner that could result in physical and emotional harm.
00:23The offence was allegedly committed at about 2.30 pm at the childcare centre in Taman Pertamjaya
00:29on October 27, 2023. If found guilty, she faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years
00:37or a fine of no more than 50,000 ringgit under Section 3, Subsection 1A of the Child Act 2001.
00:45Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Aznini Qamaruddin suggested bail of 20,000 ringgit for the accused.
00:54However, lawyer Muhammad Nazri Abdul Hamid, representing the accused, appealed for a lower
01:00bail, stating that his client only earns a monthly salary of 1,700 ringgit as a babysitter
01:07while her husband is a factory operator. The court granted a bail of 7,000 ringgit
01:13with one surety and imposed additional conditions that required the accused
01:18to report to the nearest police station once a month until the end of proceedings.
01:23The court also set November 17 as next mention of the case.
