00:00:00When you are at Arsenal, everybody wants to beat you, even if you're not a double winner.
00:00:28So we know if we are at our best, we can beat everybody.
00:00:32So let's just be concerned by our way of playing, not too much about what other people think
00:00:37about us.
00:00:40Hello and welcome to Double Bypass.
00:00:42Over the next 90 minutes, we'll guide you through the highs and lows of Arsenal's defence
00:00:47of the double.
00:00:48We've got goals galore, all 84 of them from the Gunners League and Cup campaigns.
00:00:54There's a new kid on the block.
00:01:01We catch up with Kanu.
00:01:05Out with the old, in with the new as we reveal the new shirt sponsors and you have the chance
00:01:10to win with Sega in our competition.
00:01:14The boss gives us a personal insight into the pain and the glory of a dramatic season.
00:01:19But first, let's take you back.
00:01:22After a summer of World Cup football, attentions were turned to the rigours of pre-season training
00:01:27and the defence of the double.
00:01:30We're going to try and win everything again this year.
00:01:32We've got four possible trophies to win.
00:01:35I think realistically, you have to have priorities.
00:01:41It's difficult to win all four, but you can't say, right, we're going to go for that one.
00:01:46This game today, we're not going to try.
00:01:50We've got an experienced squad now, as well as from a domestic point of view, but we've
00:01:54got international players from other countries and they'll have to learn how to cope with
00:01:59it.
00:02:00We've been premiership champions and it's an interesting season to see how we cope with
00:02:04it.
00:02:05One departure was Ian Wright.
00:02:07Ian Wright is the best goal scorer I've ever played with.
00:02:09I've played with a lot of people in the last 15 years.
00:02:13Bergkamp, Wright.
00:02:14Oh, can you believe that?
00:02:19Wright!
00:02:20He's always scored goals, he's a fantastic goal scorer and a lovely man, he was wonderful
00:02:28in the dressing room.
00:02:31When you come into work, I'm going to miss him, I'm going to miss him dearly.
00:02:35Ian Wright had gone, but there were two new arrivals over the summer.
00:02:41David Grosvenor is a young prospect from France, he's 18 years old, he can be a good left-back
00:02:47in the future, he can learn a lot from Nigel Winterburn, but of course, one day he has to
00:02:53show that he's able to take over, but before he has to work a lot.
00:02:57The first was a young Frenchman to add some youth to an experienced defence.
00:03:01The second, a talented Argentinian international.
00:03:05Divaz is a multifunctional player, he can play right-back, left-back, central defender,
00:03:08he can play in midfield and I think as well that on the right-sided position we needed
00:03:14somebody even in midfield or central midfield if something happens.
00:03:18With the addition of Divaz and Grondin, confidence was high going into the charity shield.
00:03:44Well, the man who scored in the FA Cup final scores again in the charity shield.
00:03:51It's Christopher Rea, Schmeichel's stopped it and it hasn't stopped the second one.
00:03:59Rea makes it 2-0.
00:04:05Onelka against Jaap Stam, still Onelka, 3-0.
00:04:10Well, he had the speed and in the end he had the strength.
00:04:20The charity shield goes to last season's double winners, Arsenal.
00:04:31Adams.
00:04:32Fierro looking long, Onelka making that pass possible, lovely work by Nikolas Onelka.
00:04:40And Nottingham Forest lucky to survive that.
00:04:48He took it down, he took on Hjelda and hit the post.
00:04:54So Bergkamp with a free kick.
00:04:57Adams against the bar, Petit!
00:05:02The first goal of the new Premiership season for Arsenal.
00:05:08It nearly came for Tony Adams, it did come for Manu Petit.
00:05:15Ramming in the rebound.
00:05:20Thomas, he's still going, he's equalised.
00:05:29Rodgers.
00:05:32Well, it's progressive play by Nottingham Forest but they've left some space here and space that...
00:05:42A lightning break and Arsenal have regained the lead.
00:05:53A trip to Anfield for the first away game was a disappointing affair.
00:05:57Chances were few and far between, the best falling to Arsenal's Ray Parlour.
00:06:10At Highbury the following week it was Premiership new boys Charlton holding the Gunners at bay.
00:06:16After a gruelling summer it was a slow start to the season with just a one win at home to Forest.
00:06:24I expected a difficult period for two different reasons. The first one was of course after the
00:06:29double. It's always difficult to get straight away the same concentration, the same intensity,
00:06:36the same intensity, the same intensity, the same intensity, the same intensity, the same intensity.
00:06:43The same concentration, the same hunger back and to make the team realise that it will be very hard.
00:07:00A frustrating tie against London rivals Chelsea saw David Seaman pull off a spectacular save.
00:07:07Late in the game Dennis Bergkamp almost stole the points for the North Londoners.
00:07:21Here's Parlour. Plenty of players forward for Arsenal here. Bergkamp just holding his position to stay onside. Bergkamp!
00:07:36Well it wasn't the greatest angle in the end. It's a corner.
00:07:43Heskey. Able to turn and take on Steve Bould. He's given him a bit of space. Too much space.
00:07:50Well that's a cracking goal.
00:07:56Time running out for Arsenal.
00:08:04Hughes.
00:08:07Worth a try. Certainly worth a try.
00:08:11Well in the nick of time.
00:08:14Arsenal end their run of three games without a goal. Stephen Hughes. 1-1.
00:08:24Although not new to European football this was Arsenal's first experience of the Champions League.
00:08:29They were drawn in Group E and before setting off for France the boss talked of the dangers that lay ahead.
00:08:34I would say Dynamo Kyiv is a very dangerous team. The most dangerous team of the group and
00:08:40Panathinaikos, Lens and ourselves. Everybody has the same chances.
00:09:04The first portal call was away to Lens. A welcome sight was the arrival of Dennis Bergkamp who would not feature in any of the other away games.
00:09:16There were injury worries at training the night before the game as first Ray Parler faced a late fitness test.
00:09:26And then Emmanuel Petit limped off with a foot injury.
00:09:30The fans however were in confident mood.
00:09:38Our season starts today I think. This is the main thing we've been waiting for.
00:09:42You know you work a year to get in to win the league and this is the one.
00:09:46I think they're doing really well. No they will. They're hard to beat Arsenal and you need that in the Champions League.
00:09:51I'm calling upon this group.
00:09:52That's right. I mean at the end of the day Arsenal will not concede a goal.
00:09:56It's the only thing we haven't got in the trophy cabinet so we should get it. Put the record straight.
00:10:00The ultimate trophy to win.
00:10:02Hello. I speak English.
00:10:04Bonjour.
00:10:06Johnny Jensen.
00:10:08Johnny Jensen.
00:10:10Good luck for you.
00:10:16Well it does seem fitting that Arsenal should start their Champions League campaign here in France.
00:10:20The home country of course of Arsene Wenger.
00:10:26Petit.
00:10:28Oh and he's put Overmars in.
00:10:30That's a lovely goal.
00:10:32Certainly worthy
00:10:34of this illustrious
00:10:36competition. Overmars.
00:10:40Sikora with a free kick. Off the bar.
00:10:44Moreira.
00:10:46And a good header there by Adams.
00:10:56Overmars.
00:10:58Just having a look to see what's on in the centre.
00:11:00He'll have spotted Anelka
00:11:02and Bergkamp but he goes his own way.
00:11:04And nearly scores
00:11:06again.
00:11:10Our goal.
00:11:12In the second minutes of stoppage time
00:11:14Barre claims it. Keown was in there
00:11:16as well. It's 1-1.
00:11:18Disappointed at the end you know to lose a late goal
00:11:20and to be on top so long
00:11:22and creating so many chances was just
00:11:24a bit disappointing.
00:11:26I suppose in the cold light of day
00:11:28we'll look down and say
00:11:30this is a good performance.
00:11:32We've come away with a point
00:11:34and really at times embarrassed at what is a very good French side.
00:11:36So that would be
00:11:38what we look at but now
00:11:40the wounds are still fresh. We really feel
00:11:42that we should have won the match.
00:11:48Friedrich Jungberg is I think
00:11:50a talented player.
00:11:52Midfielder who is creative
00:11:54can make runs with the ball
00:11:56off the ball and I thought
00:11:58that he could play right
00:12:00left and as well behind the strikers
00:12:02that's why I brought him in.
00:12:04I think it's a very good club
00:12:06and I was happy to be able to play here.
00:12:08I'm proud of playing for Arsenal
00:12:10and that's the way it is.
00:12:18Here's with the free kick.
00:12:20And it comes!
00:12:24Well Arsenal
00:12:26have the lead that they thoroughly deserved
00:12:28with all the early pressure
00:12:30and now a goal to show for it
00:12:32from Tony Adams.
00:12:36Beckham
00:12:38space for the shot
00:12:40oh the inside of the post
00:12:42and it stayed out.
00:12:46Blomqvist
00:12:48Blomqvist
00:12:52Arsenal win it back well
00:12:54over Mars
00:12:56one for Anelka the chase
00:12:58Stam on it offside not given
00:13:00Schmeichel makes the save. Anelka!
00:13:022-0
00:13:06Well Nicolas Anelka
00:13:08has been telling his team mates
00:13:10that he owes them a goal
00:13:12and here it is
00:13:14against Manchester United
00:13:18Goal!
00:13:22Over Mars coming
00:13:24more across the pitch
00:13:26It's Aaron Parler
00:13:30Over Mars again
00:13:32Oh Hughes! I don't know whether he's
00:13:34looking for Jungberg but he's found him
00:13:36What a way
00:13:38to start an Arsenal career
00:13:40Frederik Jungberg
00:13:42on as a substitute
00:13:44for his debut in the English game
00:13:46And he scores against Manchester United
00:13:48It was a great game
00:13:50maybe the first time again
00:13:52after the beginning of the season where we had
00:13:54a good win and we were
00:13:56really dominating
00:13:58The 26th of September at Hillsborough
00:14:00will be remembered by most for
00:14:02Paolo Di Canio's push on referee Paul Alcock
00:14:04However for Gunners fans
00:14:06it'll be for the team's first loss of the season
00:14:08Kevin Pressman was in superb
00:14:10form for Wednesday
00:14:12Whilst at the other end
00:14:14Lee Briscoe's late goal
00:14:16proved decisive
00:14:26Despite
00:14:28the resounding win against United
00:14:30it was still a disappointing month
00:14:32for the Gunners finishing a lowly
00:14:3410th position
00:14:38Back to the Champions League
00:14:40To accommodate its huge support
00:14:42Arsenal took the unprecedented step of staging
00:14:44their Champions League matches at Wembley
00:14:46The fans were not disappointed
00:14:48as they turned out in their thousands
00:14:50filling Wembley to capacity
00:15:00Both sides
00:15:02enjoying the wide open spaces
00:15:04of Wembley, this is
00:15:06Lagonicakis
00:15:10Keown
00:15:12Goalkeeper's lost it, Vieira
00:15:14Adams, bangs it in
00:15:20Well it's a goalkeeping
00:15:22error
00:15:24and Tony Adams takes full advantage
00:15:30They're pushing and shoving in the centre
00:15:32but Keown's got that
00:15:34Another corner from Petit
00:15:36another goal for Arsenal
00:15:39and Martin
00:15:41Keown
00:15:43via the inside of the post
00:15:47Sanovic
00:15:49with the free kick
00:15:51and a goal
00:15:53for Mário
00:15:55for Panathinaikos
00:16:03Petit with the corner
00:16:05and Adams
00:16:07and Shea Given
00:16:09just about kept it out
00:16:13and Elka
00:16:15Arsenal are in
00:16:17full cry here
00:16:19and Bergkamp
00:16:23Well a goal
00:16:25greeted by Dennis Bergkamp
00:16:27I think with relief as much as joy
00:16:29There's no flag
00:16:31there is Bergkamp
00:16:33and an Elka
00:16:352-0
00:16:41Well Bergkamp could have taken this chance himself
00:16:43but he saw his colleague better placed
00:16:47Petit
00:16:49it's through
00:16:51for Marco Vermaes
00:16:53brought down by Davies-Ass
00:16:55he'll be off for that
00:16:57It's Bergkamp
00:16:59Goalkeeper went the right way
00:17:01but the penalty
00:17:03was perfectly placed
00:17:072-0 here for Dennis Bergkamp
00:17:09and it's 3-0 to Arsenal
00:17:15Overmars
00:17:17Newcastle really with no answer
00:17:19Overmars
00:17:21Newcastle really with no answer
00:17:23and down goes Bergkamp again
00:17:25he's put the ball in the net
00:17:27but the whistle's gone
00:17:33Bergkamp again
00:17:35and this time Given saves it
00:17:37same side
00:17:39but not the same result
00:17:43Overmars
00:17:45lovely change of direction
00:17:47Oh and very spectacularly stopped
00:17:49by Paul Jones
00:18:01Bergkamp
00:18:03and Elka
00:18:05well he takes some stopping
00:18:07and Southampton
00:18:09couldn't find anyone to stop him
00:18:13chase that says Bergkamp
00:18:15he got the better of Lundeklap
00:18:17and then angled it across
00:18:19the goalkeeper
00:18:25Letizia
00:18:27and it's David Howells on the burst
00:18:31and Lee Dixon
00:18:33on a run here
00:18:35oh that's a brilliant early cross
00:18:39Bergkamp puts the header away
00:18:41but Dixon
00:18:43but Dixon
00:18:45delivered it delightfully for him
00:18:49well the free kick has been given
00:18:51and now Arsenal have got to defend it
00:18:53crowd calling for the final whistle
00:18:55at Wembley
00:18:57Rebrov
00:18:59he looks round but it's given
00:19:03The Champions League starts then
00:19:05and you need to get the points
00:19:07and I felt we were a bit unlucky in a few games
00:19:09to get a goal against
00:19:11in the last few minutes
00:19:13two or three times that happened
00:19:21Kenner
00:19:23oh Billy McKinley closed down by Vieira
00:19:25here's an Elka
00:19:27off the inside of the post
00:19:29and into the back of the blackburn net
00:19:31they'll feel that
00:19:33they've given this goal
00:19:35away the home side
00:19:37it's Petit
00:19:39deflected
00:19:41two
00:19:47the wall started to break
00:19:49and in it went
00:19:55Sutton
00:19:57deflected
00:19:59that's a good reach by David Seaman
00:20:07keep going
00:20:11Petit
00:20:13Johnson
00:20:15well the youngster has found a header here
00:20:17to give Blackburn hope
00:20:27Vieira
00:20:29oh it's stylish play by Arsenal
00:20:31it's an Elka
00:20:33and the goalkeeper just
00:20:35got a touch and that was crucial
00:20:41Christopher Rea holding it up
00:20:45and the
00:20:47shot by Hughes claiming a corner
00:20:51oh it's an old goal
00:20:53Lee Carslit
00:21:01Vivas
00:21:03well
00:21:05the man from Argentina
00:21:07who's a versatile character
00:21:09shows that he can
00:21:11score a goal as well as
00:21:13his defensive attributes
00:21:15good header
00:21:17off his corner
00:21:21oh against the post
00:21:23from Powell
00:21:25and in from Sturridge
00:21:28well maybe Arsenal
00:21:30can break here
00:21:34Overmars covering a lot of ground
00:21:38and it's a tap-in
00:21:40for Anarcon
00:21:42he gets the credit for the goal
00:21:44but it's very much made
00:21:46by Marc Overmars
00:21:50a run from just
00:21:52outside his own penalty area
00:21:54always having a look for the pass
00:21:56always having a look for the pass
00:21:58but he goes for the shot
00:22:00but an Elka on hand anyway
00:22:02Coventry nil Arsenal one
00:22:08oh it's cleared off the line
00:22:10by Winterburn
00:22:14three wins in October put the Gunners
00:22:16season back on track
00:22:18as they climbed up to third spot
00:22:26The team were without the services of Bergkamp
00:22:28Anelka and Overmars
00:22:30for their toughest challenge yet
00:22:32on a damp and dismal night in Kiev
00:22:34Kiev were three up
00:22:36before Stephen Hughes restored some pride
00:22:38with a late goal
00:22:40oh that's very cleverly done
00:22:42by Patrick Vieira
00:22:46Palak using the pace on the pass
00:22:50it's Anelka
00:22:52whoa!
00:22:54has he scored a better one than that
00:22:56for Arsenal?
00:22:58Oh!
00:23:00Oh!
00:23:02Oh!
00:23:04Oh!
00:23:06Oh!
00:23:08has he scored a better one than that for Arsenal?
00:23:12a sign of his current confidence
00:23:14a goal in the Premiership
00:23:16for the fifth game in a row
00:23:18and what a goal from Nicholas Anelka
00:23:24Answorth
00:23:30Petit
00:23:32Jungberg
00:23:34Anelka on the move again
00:23:36not quite this time
00:23:46and Overmars
00:23:48almost lost it to Duncan Ferguson
00:23:50he tackles back and can't dispossess Palak
00:23:52Anelka
00:23:54it's over the top
00:24:02cornering towards the near post area
00:24:04where Petit was arriving
00:24:06powerfully
00:24:08and so close
00:24:10for Vieira
00:24:14it was a young side that took on
00:24:16Chelsea in the fourth round of the Worthington Cup
00:24:18unfortunately it was a
00:24:20record defeat at Highbury
00:24:22the Gunners losing 5-0
00:24:34Vieira
00:24:36Palak
00:24:38Petit
00:24:40possibilities here for Arsenal
00:24:42Petit
00:24:44will give some work there for
00:24:46Espen Bordsen
00:24:48and Arsenal have a corner
00:24:54retrieving done by
00:24:56Overmars
00:24:58Anderson trying to stop Overmars
00:25:00getting into a shooting position
00:25:02Petit
00:25:08Petit
00:25:14Jungberg
00:25:16well the catalogue of saves mounting
00:25:18for the young Norwegian goalkeeper
00:25:22Palak
00:25:24Arsenal still searching
00:25:26for the breakthrough
00:25:28Dixon
00:25:30and Anelka hit that wonderfully
00:25:38coming towards ground side still
00:25:40standing firm
00:25:42against Arsenal
00:25:44Overmars that might change here
00:25:46because Adams is there
00:25:48and again Espen Bordsen keeps Arsenal at bay
00:25:52At Selhurst Park
00:25:54Arsenal took on the Crazy Gang
00:25:56a late contested goal by FN Akoku
00:25:58and signed the team to their second league defeat of the season
00:26:14Overmars still going
00:26:16and the goalkeeper
00:26:18did very well
00:26:20to deal with that from Roy Palak
00:26:28That's good play
00:26:30by Schmeitzer
00:26:32and a goal from De Baerb
00:26:34We have to
00:26:36try to win the next game
00:26:38and that's it of course we cannot qualify anymore
00:26:40I think but
00:26:42there are still points
00:26:44to take and
00:26:46we have now to concentrate on the championship
00:26:48and try to fight back
00:26:50That's going
00:26:54as though he might enjoy the
00:26:56every stage this afternoon
00:26:58Here's Townsend
00:27:00and Dean Gordon is onside
00:27:02and Brian Dean scores for
00:27:04Mendelssohn
00:27:10Vivas
00:27:14Palak
00:27:16decides to go wide
00:27:20Jungberg
00:27:22oh well stopped
00:27:24by Schwarzer
00:27:28Middlesbrough continuing to defend here
00:27:30with great determination
00:27:32but here's Anelka
00:27:34and off the underside of the bar
00:27:36and in
00:27:38It's come late
00:27:40but it has come for Nikolas Anelka
00:27:42and Arsenal
00:27:50It was a bad month all round
00:27:52and another late goal
00:27:54conceded in the Champions League
00:27:56meant all hopes of qualifying were ended
00:27:58Well overall I think it was
00:28:00a poor start
00:28:02physically and mentally I wasn't at my top
00:28:04and after that
00:28:06it started growing
00:28:08and I feel towards the end of the season
00:28:10that I reached
00:28:12quite a good level again
00:28:14The first opponents in December
00:28:16were Derby County
00:28:18Ray Parler came closest for Arsenal
00:28:20whilst David Seaman was forced to turn
00:28:22a last for Heenan Cross
00:28:24over the bar
00:28:40Who's going to take responsibility
00:28:43Who's going to take responsibility
00:28:45in this young Arsenal side for this free kick
00:28:47Mendes
00:28:49well it's a big deflection off
00:28:51Asanovic but Arsenal celebrate
00:28:53a goal here in Greece
00:29:05Steve Ball and they've got the better of him
00:29:07Sipniewski
00:29:09has equalised
00:29:13Here's Anelka
00:29:15Others coming up in support
00:29:17and Anelka using the space
00:29:19and he's rolled it in
00:29:23Found a route round the outside
00:29:25Arsenal back in front
00:29:35Just knocked away from
00:29:37Anelka but Boa Morte is quickly
00:29:39on the scene, he's got a chance here, he's scored
00:29:41And what a night this is turning out
00:29:43to be for this inexperienced
00:29:45Arsenal side
00:29:51They lead 3-1
00:29:55We were without 13 players
00:29:57I think and we expected of course
00:29:59I expected a decent
00:30:01loss and finally
00:30:03we won the game, it was amazing
00:30:05and
00:30:07that was great for the kids
00:30:09because to win in such an important
00:30:11game away was amazing
00:30:13and it was a great night for us
00:30:17Anelka Bergkamp
00:30:19anticipating the touch
00:30:21and getting the benefit
00:30:23for that quick thinking
00:30:25he just gambled
00:30:27that Anelka
00:30:29would be able to ease it on
00:30:31he got half a yard on the defenders
00:30:33by doing that and steered the shot across
00:30:35the goalkeeper
00:30:39Anelka
00:30:43Bergkamp
00:30:45Neymar is just moving away
00:30:47from Anelka who checks back
00:30:49Bergkamp
00:30:51Anelka stayed on his feet
00:30:55Oh and Dennis Bergkamp
00:30:57back for Arsenal today
00:30:59and back at his very
00:31:01best, brilliant finish
00:31:05Anelka picked out Bergkamp
00:31:07it wasn't easy but he tucked it away
00:31:09beautifully
00:31:17Oh that's Collymore's flick
00:31:19Hendry
00:31:21Joachim
00:31:23one back for Aston Villa
00:31:29Bold
00:31:31Arsenal a bit sloppy here
00:31:33Joachim
00:31:35now
00:31:37can Arsenal move out here
00:31:39missed kick by Ian Taylor
00:31:41well played by
00:31:43Parler
00:31:45Bergkamp
00:31:47on a hat-trick remember
00:31:49Anelka, Parler
00:31:51and he's just dragged it
00:31:53past the far post
00:31:55Hey
00:32:03Well they're quick and energetic this young
00:32:05lead side
00:32:07galvanised by David O'Leary
00:32:09getting something
00:32:11just a little bit extra out of them but here's Petit
00:32:13as Arsenal look to get something extra here
00:32:15and with Bergkamp
00:32:17well they've got it
00:32:21I think he missed kicked it in
00:32:26and completely fooled Nigel Martin
00:32:28Petit
00:32:30nicely down
00:32:32for Arsenal
00:32:34and on the burst
00:32:36is Patrick Vieira
00:32:38well he doesn't get
00:32:40too many goals
00:32:42but when he does they're usually
00:32:44very special and this certainly
00:32:46comes into that category
00:32:50here's Hasselbeck
00:32:52here's Hasselbeck
00:32:56well Keown's got a problem here
00:32:58oh Hasselbeck
00:33:00Arsenal have got a problem it's 2-1
00:33:06really hung up by Petit
00:33:12bowled out by Martin
00:33:14this is a lovely play
00:33:16by Leeds United
00:33:18and it was Vivas who broke it up
00:33:20and he looks to go forward for Arsenal
00:33:22the game spread at the moment
00:33:24Petit pointing where he wants to pass from Bergkamp
00:33:26and Bergkamp spot on
00:33:28Petit spot on
00:33:30Arsenal confidence
00:33:32restored
00:33:34the two goal cushion restored
00:33:36it's 3-1
00:33:38lovely goal
00:33:40West Ham's visit on Boxing Day
00:33:42was also Ian Wright's first
00:33:44game at Highbury since his departure
00:33:50over Mars
00:33:54oh it's in
00:33:56it didn't look the best
00:33:58of angles
00:34:00but it carried
00:34:02sufficient power
00:34:12Sinclair but he's caught
00:34:14by Manu Petit
00:34:16Arsenal making all the running here
00:34:20Manelka
00:34:24oh great stop by
00:34:26Xhaka Hizlop
00:34:32well it's amazing that it's still
00:34:34only 1-0
00:34:40Bergkamp
00:34:44Petit's got round the back
00:34:46Ray
00:34:48Pala
00:34:50Hizlop again
00:34:52well the chance is coming
00:34:54thick and fast
00:35:00Petit
00:35:02oh and a good try
00:35:04by Luis Palomoto
00:35:08now what can Charlton
00:35:10come up with here
00:35:14Redfern
00:35:16unlucky
00:35:18Robinson
00:35:20Keith Jones
00:35:22Robinson again
00:35:26and Manninger having problems
00:35:28Redfern in the thick of things
00:35:36it's good play
00:35:38and it's Ray Pala
00:35:42Bergkamp now how did he do that
00:35:46over Mars
00:35:50Eddie Yards
00:35:52trying to give some depth to the defending others
00:35:54to make the challenges but they don't get there
00:35:56and Ray Pala
00:35:58is sent crashing inside the penalty area
00:36:00by Kinsella
00:36:04over Mars
00:36:06scores
00:36:10short approach to the ball
00:36:12successful penalty
00:36:16it was a good Christmas run
00:36:18for the Arsenal they picked up 10 out of 15
00:36:20available points to leave them in a strong
00:36:22position going into the new year
00:36:24on our last end of season video
00:36:26boring boring Arsenal we asked you
00:36:28who were the only 4 members of the current squad
00:36:30to have won 3 league titles with the
00:36:32Arsenal the answer of course was
00:36:34Tony Adams, Steve Bould, Lee Dixon
00:36:36and Nigel Winterburn
00:36:38congratulations to Emma Bryant from
00:36:40Gwent Emma will receive a replica

00:36:52and we hit the
00:36:54FA Cup trail
00:36:58we take time out
00:37:00with Kanu and hear about his miracles
00:37:02both on and off the pitch
00:37:06and we follow the Arsenal ladies
00:37:08in their own pursuit of the double
00:37:14music
00:37:26well the holders
00:37:28finding it hard going here

00:37:38it's Nogan again
00:37:402-0 to Preston
00:37:44Dixon's throw
00:37:48Dalmorti
00:37:54well Arsenal
00:37:56starting to get to grips with the situation
00:37:58and their fans will feel
00:38:00not before time
00:38:06Preston have got
00:38:085 in the wall
00:38:10still
00:38:12leaves them hanging their heads
00:38:14it's 2-2
00:38:20superb free kick
00:38:26Paballero
00:38:30so many Arsenal players forward here
00:38:32Dalmorti
00:38:35Paballero can't get there
00:38:37Petit does, there's a Preston player down
00:38:40the goal stands
00:38:45and for the first time this evening
00:38:47at Deepdale, Arsenal are in front
00:38:51Petit second
00:38:53with a touch of controversy
00:38:58Dalmorti
00:39:02Paballero lets it run
00:39:04and here's Overmars
00:39:06game over now
00:39:10Luis Baumolte
00:39:12has been involved
00:39:14in a lot of the action for Arsenal tonight
00:39:16lovely change of direction by Overmars
00:39:20Liverpool were the first visitors
00:39:22to Highbury in 99
00:39:24in a tense encounter this Mark Overmars
00:39:26shot was Arsenal's best chance
00:39:30at the other end
00:39:32Alex Manninger's save kept the Gunners
00:39:34in the game
00:39:40well it's not exactly the playing surface
00:39:42that Arsenal are used to
00:39:47shot by Overmars
00:39:54oh Keown
00:39:57Martin Keown
00:40:00threatens to spoil Ron Atkinson's big day
00:40:02here at the city ground
00:40:06he made this corner his
00:40:08and bounced it into the net
00:40:17Van Hooydonk trying to
00:40:19clear a passage maybe for others
00:40:21against the post from Johnson
00:40:23Van Hooydonk
00:40:25and Manninger
00:40:27gratefully grasps it
00:40:31Arsenal working hard
00:40:33here to try and avoid the
00:40:35embarrassment of what happened early on
00:40:37at Preston
00:40:41Overmars doing a lot of it on his own
00:40:43all of it on his own
00:40:45a solo goal for the Dutchman
00:40:49Wolves rather backed off him
00:40:51almost inviting him to shoot
00:40:53well he accepted the invitation and said thank you very much
00:40:58Arsenal still leading
00:41:00yet another FA Cup goal
00:41:02for Mark Overmars
00:41:07oh Manninger
00:41:09was beaten to the bunch by Havard Flo
00:41:19off the post
00:41:22and Arsenal scrape it away
00:41:29Remy Gard
00:41:31with the corner
00:41:34Bergkamp
00:41:35it was deflected
00:41:37it's a goal for Arsenal
00:41:39they're back in front
00:41:51I believe he's a very talented striker
00:41:55and he couldn't get through
00:41:57in France in Bordeaux
00:41:59because he had two national players in front of him
00:42:01and I think
00:42:03still that he will be a very good striker
00:42:05he was unlucky here
00:42:07because he just couldn't score
00:42:11and Diyawara
00:42:13and
00:42:15Radebe
00:42:17Kanu is there
00:42:19Diyawara off the line
00:42:23Diyawara
00:42:25skimming the top of the crossbar
00:42:27also joining the squad in January
00:42:29was Nigerian international Kanu
00:42:35at my school level
00:42:37I was the captain
00:42:39and I used to play a lot
00:42:41but after my school
00:42:43a professional side have to come
00:42:45and ask me to be with them
00:42:47in the youth level
00:42:51it's a dream for any young player
00:42:53who wants to get more experience
00:42:55who wants to
00:42:57go further
00:42:59to go from Nigeria
00:43:01but it's difficult
00:43:03when you leave your family
00:43:05your friends
00:43:07the weather is different
00:43:09the food is different
00:43:11the language is also different
00:43:13we won three Dutch titles
00:43:15we won the championship
00:43:17the world championship
00:43:19and we won the FA
00:43:21we went to Tokyo
00:43:23for the world cup
00:43:25I did a lot of stuff with IAS
00:43:31it's my first time to be there
00:43:33I was the captain
00:43:35we were going on
00:43:37training
00:43:39we didn't know we were going to win the Olympics
00:43:43when we beat Brazil
00:43:45in the semi-finals
00:43:47we knew we were going to make it
00:43:49I signed
00:43:51from IAS
00:43:53and after the Olympics
00:43:55I had to go back to
00:43:57Inter to start my career
00:43:59and then
00:44:01I played a few friendly matches
00:44:03with them
00:44:05when the league was about to start
00:44:07I had to go to a physical test
00:44:09and then I went there
00:44:11and they found out something
00:44:13and they said
00:44:15I have a problem with my heart
00:44:17I have a problem with my heart
00:44:19I was playing and playing
00:44:21and not feeling anything
00:44:23and then
00:44:25they found out
00:44:27it's like they were saying
00:44:29it's over
00:44:31which is not nice
00:44:33because this is what you love to do
00:44:35so if they take it out from you
00:44:37it's going to be difficult
00:44:39but I'm somebody
00:44:41who is religious, who believes in God
00:44:43so I believe that
00:44:45God wants it to happen
00:44:47if I pray also God can also help me
00:44:49so I go back to football
00:44:53I was happy
00:44:55and I was playing a few matches
00:44:57but due to the problem
00:44:59because if you have a problem with the trainer
00:45:01it's finished
00:45:03because you're not going to get the chance
00:45:05again to perform
00:45:07that's why I decided to go
00:45:11when I heard that Arsenal was coming
00:45:13they wanted me to come
00:45:15and everything
00:45:17he accepted that
00:45:19because I was telling him
00:45:21I want to go
00:45:23I don't want to stay anymore
00:45:25I'm tired
00:45:27then I heard about that
00:45:29and I speak with the trainer
00:45:31he's asking if I'm interested
00:45:33to come
00:45:35why not
00:45:43this weekly
00:45:45Overmars
00:45:49and turned away by Edgardo
00:45:59it really is a vital game
00:46:01between these two London clubs
00:46:03and Overmars going through the centre
00:46:05and Bergkamp on the scene
00:46:07well he finished
00:46:09he moved
00:46:11first class
00:46:13Chelsea complaining about that incident
00:46:15as to whether there would be a foul
00:46:17but the goal stands
00:46:19and Arsene Wenger celebrates
00:46:29Petrescu
00:46:31has run away from Babayaro
00:46:33Arsenal needing all their
00:46:35defensive know-how here against a strong
00:46:37Chelsea response
00:46:40Di Matteo
00:46:42knocked on its way by David Seaman
00:46:46so Arsenal were unchanged
00:46:48in fourth whilst Arsenal's rivals
00:46:50Manchester United went top
00:46:52however two good cup wins had seen the team
00:46:54through to the fifth round of the FA Cup
00:46:56once you get to January
00:46:58when you have a certain rhythm
00:47:00everyone started to come
00:47:02the whole team started to get back
00:47:04together
00:47:06the injuries were gone
00:47:08we could start playing again
00:47:10and since then we reached
00:47:12quite a good level
00:47:22Di Matteo
00:47:26Bergkamp
00:47:28finding a bit of extra pace here
00:47:30and finding some room
00:47:32and finding a marvellous goal
00:47:34Arsenal
00:47:36like last season
00:47:38really getting in the groove
00:47:40since the Christmas period
00:47:42and they're one up here
00:47:44at Upton Park
00:47:50Dix
00:47:54plenty of players in yellow
00:47:56dashing forward in support of Ray Parler
00:47:58one of whom is overmars
00:48:00overmars again
00:48:022-0 at the second attempt
00:48:09Xhaka Hizlop a little unfortunate
00:48:11having reacted well
00:48:13to the first effort
00:48:15but overmars
00:48:17put it past him the second time
00:48:22oh deflection
00:48:24and here's Pearce
00:48:26and he's got the better of Tony Adams
00:48:29that's better from West Ham
00:48:32Xhaka Hizlop
00:48:37there's no flag
00:48:39it's an Elka
00:48:43it's still an Elka
00:48:45well he's left two defenders
00:48:47in disarray and beaten the goalkeeper
00:48:49and Arsenal now lead
00:48:51here at Upton Park by three goals
00:48:53to nil
00:48:55Sinclair
00:49:01Sinclair
00:49:03great tackle by Winterberg
00:49:05Sinclair trying to match that himself
00:49:09Tangling with an Elka
00:49:11referee lets the game go on
00:49:13and Arsenal grateful for that
00:49:15oh they're in again
00:49:18it's Ray Parler
00:49:21it's four
00:49:25Sinclair
00:49:31next the Cup
00:49:32and one of the most controversial games
00:49:34of the season
00:49:36you know Bold
00:49:38has made his way up
00:49:39whether Bergkamp can spot him
00:49:40looking into the sun
00:49:41I'm not so sure
00:49:43well he's found Patrick Vieira
00:49:52and Vieira's touch
00:49:54insufficient to give Arsenal the lead
00:49:59Parler
00:50:04Ray Parler there again
00:50:08and Diawara
00:50:10close to a first Arsenal goal
00:50:12for him
00:50:20oh it's fine play
00:50:22down that far touchline
00:50:23Winterberg's pass
00:50:25over Mars with the cross
00:50:27and look at the room for Diawara
00:50:31well Alan Kelly was beaten
00:50:33but he'd hit the post
00:50:40Marcelo
00:50:43it's 1-1
00:50:45well Kelly's kicked the ball out
00:50:53and the Sheffield United fans
00:50:55still appealing for that penalty
00:51:05Steve Bruce supervising the substitution
00:51:10and
00:51:11well Parler's thrown the ball forward
00:51:13Sheffield United expected Arsenal
00:51:15to give the ball back to them
00:51:16instead
00:51:17well over Mars has scored
00:51:19from Kanu's pass
00:51:22and the referee is pointing for the goal
00:51:26at first we didn't want to cheat
00:51:28and Kanu didn't want to cheat
00:51:30he just didn't know why
00:51:31nobody was there
00:51:33but Ray Parler wanted to give the ball back
00:51:35so the best we can do now
00:51:36is to offer to replay the game
00:51:38so the best we can do now
00:51:39is to offer to replay the game
00:51:40here against Sheffield United
00:51:42I'm thankful for Arsene Wenger
00:51:44and David Dean
00:51:45that they've acted so quickly
00:51:47and saying that
00:51:48they'll give us a replay
00:51:50I think our players deserve
00:51:51a replay on it
00:51:52because I don't think
00:51:53they want to
00:51:54they want in their good name
00:51:55of the huge Arsenal football club
00:51:57where it stands for
00:51:58I don't think they want
00:51:59to win a cup tie like that
00:52:01it's an accident
00:52:02I saw the ball
00:52:03and then
00:52:04I passed the ball
00:52:05and we scored
00:52:06so for me I didn't know
00:52:07I didn't know
00:52:08that their men
00:52:09was injured
00:52:10so
00:52:11I just saw the ball
00:52:12and then I passed the ball
00:52:13and it was a goal
00:52:14so for me
00:52:15it's a big mistake
00:52:17For the first time
00:52:18in FA Cup history
00:52:19a rematch was called for
00:52:20and in 10 days time
00:52:21the two sides
00:52:22would meet again
00:52:23at Highbury
00:52:28It really is
00:52:29a filthy night
00:52:30in Manchester
00:52:32but the players
00:52:33putting on
00:52:34a very good show
00:52:35in the circumstances
00:52:36a driving run
00:52:37from Roy Keane
00:52:39very well stopped
00:52:40by Seaman
00:52:43deep from Blomquist
00:52:48oh that's a penalty
00:52:51against Ray Parler
00:52:55here comes York
00:52:56he's missed it
00:52:58Parler
00:53:00Kanu
00:53:02oh he's caught Stam out
00:53:05and here's Anelka
00:53:09well he's scored it
00:53:10but
00:53:11half the team
00:53:12have run to Kanu
00:53:14for the unpredictable
00:53:15turn
00:53:16which led
00:53:17to
00:53:18Nicholas Anelka
00:53:19giving Arsenal
00:53:20the lead
00:53:21and

00:53:26it's a goal
00:53:27Anelka giving Arsenal

00:53:41Carlos scored
00:53:52Bergkamp

00:53:55and
00:53:56appropriately
00:53:57it's Mark Overmars
00:53:59who figured prominently
00:54:00in the reasons
00:54:01why this match
00:54:02has been restaged tonight
00:54:04but no complaints
00:54:05about this goal

00:57:16I always like to watch
00:57:17Arsenal
00:57:18it's not like
00:57:19I was then thinking
00:57:20I'm going to come
00:57:21to play
00:57:22with Arsenal
00:57:24Kanu was a gambler
00:57:25but
00:57:26I know him
00:57:27for a long time
00:57:28and I was
00:57:29behind
00:57:30after Kanu
00:57:31for
00:57:32over a year
00:57:42whoever is sending me
00:57:43it's not taking
00:57:44any gamble
00:57:45but for them
00:57:46yeah
00:57:47maybe
00:57:48they're going to say
00:57:49like that
00:57:50because
00:57:51my head
00:57:52problem
00:57:53and I'm not
00:57:54playing a lot
00:57:55because I have
00:57:56some problems
00:57:57when I came
00:57:58I know they have
00:57:59good players
00:58:00and everything
00:58:01but it's like
00:58:02what I have in mind
00:58:03is to come
00:58:04and play
00:58:05you know
00:58:06just to show
00:58:07what I can do
00:58:08if I got the chance
00:58:09so
00:58:10my dream is like

00:58:28with them
00:58:29so I started
00:58:30getting used to them
00:58:31and the way they play
00:58:32and everything
00:58:33so
00:58:34for me I got the talent
00:58:35it's only I have to
00:58:36train and

00:58:43forward
00:58:44Sheffield United
00:58:45expected Arsenal
00:58:46to give the ball
00:58:47back to them
00:58:48even with everything
00:58:49that happened
00:58:50they were behind
00:58:51they were shouting
00:58:52my name

00:59:02I don't know
00:59:03what's happened
00:59:04or what they see
00:59:05in me
00:59:06but

00:59:52I'm also still
00:59:53I'm still with the team
00:59:54except if
00:59:55anything is wrong
00:59:56then
00:59:57yeah
00:59:58somebody has to decide
00:59:59what to do
01:00:00but right now
01:00:01everything is going fine
01:00:02and
01:00:03I'm happy

01:00:43Tom
01:00:46quick free kick
01:00:48for Arsenal
01:00:49too quick for Sheffield Wednesday
01:00:50and it's led to the breakthrough
01:00:52from Dennis Bergkamp
01:00:59well they've had to work so hard
01:01:01for this lead
01:01:02Arsenal
01:01:03and they
01:01:06and Kanu
01:01:08made it look so simple
01:01:17well there could be another
01:01:18break on here
01:01:21over Mars
01:01:220-0 for so long
01:01:24but now
01:01:25it's Arsenal 3

01:03:55Kanu the creator
01:03:56over Mars the scorer
01:04:00a great month then for Arsenal
01:04:01with maximum points
01:04:02from their league matches
01:04:03and the mouth-watering prospect
01:04:05of an FA Cup semi-final
01:04:06against Manchester United
01:04:08before we go on
01:04:09a quick review of the season
01:04:10for the youths and reserves
01:04:13we started the season very well
01:04:14especially at Highbury
01:04:16then when we had to move out
01:04:17to Boreham Wood
01:04:18we started to hit a few
01:04:19stumbling blocks
01:04:20but all in all
01:04:22it's been an educational year
01:04:23really because
01:04:24we've chopped and changed
01:04:25the team as we've done
01:04:26in the past
01:04:27but this year
01:04:28we've virtually ended up
01:04:29with the under-19 team
01:04:30playing on the Saturday morning
01:04:32then on the Monday
01:04:33with the reserves
01:04:34so it's had its difficulties
01:04:36a difficult season then
01:04:37for the reserves
01:04:38meant they finished 9th
01:04:39in the Avon Insurance
01:04:40Combination League
01:04:42the under-19s finished
01:04:432nd in the Academy League
01:04:44and in the playoffs
01:04:45beat Manchester City
01:04:46and then Sunderland
01:04:47before losing 2-1
01:04:48to Everton
01:04:49as winners of their section
01:04:50the under-17s
01:04:51also progressed
01:04:52to the playoff stages
01:04:53having achieved
01:04:54two convincing wins
01:04:55they went out 5-6
01:04:56on penalties
01:04:57to Blackburn
01:05:03a scrappy encounter
01:05:04at Southampton
01:05:05on Easter Saturday
01:05:06saw both teams
01:05:07come away with a point
01:05:08Mark Hughes
01:05:09was unlucky not to score
01:05:10the ball glancing
01:05:11off the post
01:05:14Arsenal's best opportunity
01:05:15fell to Frederik Ljungberg
01:05:17his volley
01:05:18blocked by
01:05:19Ken Moncow
01:05:23Blackburn's need
01:05:25for the points
01:05:26as great as Arsenal's
01:05:28at the other end
01:05:29of the table
01:05:30Bergkamp
01:05:34he's kept it
01:05:36and he's found over
01:05:37Mars
01:05:38Diawara
01:05:44Parler's there
01:05:46Bergkamp's there
01:05:47against the wall
01:05:49and then
01:05:50it flew
01:05:51past John Fyland
01:05:56well he didn't give it up
01:05:57when his first shot
01:05:58was blocked
01:05:59Dennis Bergkamp
01:06:00if the right won't do
01:06:01the left will
01:06:02thank you very much
01:06:08this is Parler
01:06:11quick incisive

01:06:20for Bergkamp
01:06:22Teacock trying to hold him
01:06:23at bay
01:06:24penalty
01:06:30it's Bergkamp
01:06:31against Fyland

01:07:11well it was
01:07:12deflected the shot
01:07:13from Bergkamp
01:07:14but it came up
01:07:15at a good height
01:07:16for Schmeichel
01:07:19Bergkamp
01:07:20Jungberg
01:07:21that's a lovely
01:07:22pass
01:07:23for Jungberg
01:07:24and he needed
01:07:25to take it first time
01:07:30for Bergkamp
01:07:33Keown's header
01:07:34David Beckham
01:07:35backing up the play here
01:07:39sharing it
01:07:40for Beckham
01:07:42well what a goal
01:07:48Bergkamp
01:07:51now Anelka
01:07:53well he got through
01:07:54and then the shot
01:07:55let him down
01:08:00now Pala
01:08:03such a stirring
01:08:04contest here
01:08:05at Villa Park
01:08:06in this
01:08:08FA Cup semi-final
01:08:09replay
01:08:14Bergkamp
01:08:17goal for Arsenal
01:08:23well you can never
01:08:24rule them out
01:08:25Bergkamp's shot
01:08:26off Stam
01:08:27and in
01:08:30Tatis corner
01:08:32Adams is there
01:08:33Keown's there
01:08:34Anelka
01:08:41Pala
01:08:45oh penalty
01:08:46Philip Neville on
01:08:47Ray Pala
01:08:48David Allery had
01:08:49no doubts
01:08:51this
01:08:52to Wendley
01:08:53oh Schmeichel saved it
01:08:55Bergkamp cannot
01:08:56believe it
01:09:00ran off Gary Neville
01:09:05over Mars
01:09:07Bergkamp
01:09:08Schmeichel
01:09:09foils him again
01:09:13Fiera that's
01:09:15only as far as Giggs
01:09:18who's passed Fiera
01:09:21and taking on Keown
01:09:22and Dixon
01:09:23Ryan Giggs
01:09:29can Arsenal find some
01:09:30FA Cup salvation
01:09:31here
01:09:33the holders on the
01:09:34verge of going out
01:09:35at the semi-final stage
01:09:38every goal we concede
01:09:39it hurts
01:09:41deeply
01:09:43because you always think
01:09:44we shouldn't have
01:09:45conceded that goal
01:09:46I think every manager
01:09:47is like that
01:09:48and
01:09:49even more so
01:09:50with our defenders
01:09:51because you know
01:09:52they are so good
01:09:53in a way it was all
01:09:54in my hands as well
01:09:55so
01:09:56that was disappointing
01:09:57but
01:09:58yeah overall
01:09:59I think when you look
01:10:00back on this season
01:10:01it's
01:10:02it would have been
01:10:03tremendous to
01:10:04win the double again
01:10:05we got so close
01:10:06with the penalty
01:10:07and then
01:10:08you know then
01:10:09Giggs got a great goal
01:10:10you know but
01:10:11when you look back
01:10:12it was a great game
01:10:13the game before it
01:10:14I know it was
01:10:15nil-nil
01:10:16it was
01:10:17it was one of the
01:10:18best nil-nils you'll
01:10:19ever see
01:10:20Bergkamp
01:10:21gets it back
01:10:23over Mars
01:10:24taking on
01:10:25Jason Newell
01:10:26getting his cross in
01:10:27and it runs all the way
01:10:28to Ray Vala
01:10:361-0
01:10:37to Arsenal
01:10:44Winterberg
01:10:48really taking the fight
01:10:49to Wimbledon
01:10:52Fieri
01:10:53well
01:10:54whether
01:10:55Wimbledon were
01:10:56wondering whether
01:10:57it was going to
01:10:58pass or not
01:10:59he saw the space
01:11:00hit it hard and
01:11:01true
01:11:022-0
01:11:08wide from over Mars
01:11:09Bergkamp
01:11:12Kanu
01:11:13goal
01:11:15it came back
01:11:16off the post
01:11:18and went in
01:11:19I think
01:11:20via a Wimbledon
01:11:21defender
01:11:22yes Ben Thatcher
01:11:28goodness knows what
01:11:29Arsenal had in their
01:11:30half-time cup of tea
01:11:31they are storming
01:11:32forward in this
01:11:33second half
01:11:34they're in again
01:11:36they've scored again
01:11:37Dennis Bergkamp
01:11:43and Wimbledon
01:11:44simply cannot
01:11:45stop the flow
01:11:46towards their goal
01:11:52over Mars
01:11:53Bergkamp
01:11:55Kanu
01:11:57Vieira
01:11:58and Kanu
01:12:00that's definitely his
01:12:08Wimbledon
01:12:09overwhelmed and
01:12:10hybrid
01:12:15oh one back
01:12:16Karl Kort
01:12:17with the header
01:12:18Vieira
01:12:21Vieira
01:12:24Onelka
01:12:26brought down
01:12:27by Steve Vickers
01:12:28penalty
01:12:30it's over Mars
01:12:32not the best penalty
01:12:33you've ever seen
01:12:34but it did the trick
01:12:37hit it low
01:12:38and straight down
01:12:39the middle
01:12:42Vickers
01:12:45Dean
01:12:46and
01:12:48came with surprising
01:12:49power
01:12:55Gordon
01:12:56he's lost out
01:12:58to Patrick Vieira
01:13:00Onelka's away
01:13:02chance for Arsenal
01:13:032-0
01:13:08it was Dean Gordon's
01:13:09mistake
01:13:10Vieira seized upon it
01:13:12and slid it in to
01:13:13Onelka who slid it
01:13:14into the net
01:13:17Gordon
01:13:18so nearly
01:13:19made amends
01:13:20for that earlier
01:13:21error
01:13:28Kanu
01:13:31Onelka
01:13:36Oh Kanu
01:13:38in stoppage time
01:13:39before half time
01:13:41it is
01:13:423-0
01:13:43for Arsenal
01:13:45and
01:13:46it is 3-0
01:13:48Kanu
01:13:53Vieira
01:13:54if they play it right
01:13:55Arsenal
01:13:56they're in again here
01:13:58Onelka
01:14:00over Mars
01:14:01is it 4?
01:14:02it is
01:14:03Patrick Vieira
01:14:04number 4
01:14:09Middlesbrough
01:14:10not let off the hook
01:14:13Arsenal rampant
01:14:17Onelka
01:14:21Onelka
01:14:22who's been involved
01:14:23in absolutely everything
01:14:24for Arsenal
01:14:25back in the side today
01:14:29Dixon
01:14:34this is Parler
01:14:37Dixon
01:14:38early cross
01:14:39oh the flick
01:14:40from Kanu
01:14:41phenomenal
01:14:44well 5 against
01:14:45Wimbledon on Monday
01:14:47and 5 again
01:14:48here
01:14:49at Middlesbrough
01:14:55no sign
01:14:56with goal difference
01:14:57perhaps important
01:14:58at the end of the season
01:14:59for Arsenal to
01:15:00ease up
01:15:01Onelka
01:15:02it's 6
01:15:10Kanu has got 2
01:15:11and now
01:15:12Onelka has got 2
01:15:16Andy Townsend
01:15:17to take the free kick
01:15:18oh and Armstrong
01:15:19off the post
01:15:20and in
01:15:22some consolation
01:15:23for Middlesbrough
01:15:27dreams of the double
01:15:28were over
01:15:29but 2 classic performances
01:15:30and 11 goals
01:15:31had boosted
01:15:32the all important
01:15:33goal difference
01:15:34and helped Arsenal
01:15:35to the top of the table
01:15:37of course it's always
01:15:38the first 2 or 3 days
01:15:39are very difficult
01:15:40to pick up again
01:15:41and to react
01:15:42but we gave a great reaction
01:15:43against Wimbledon
01:15:44and since that game
01:15:45we played very well
01:15:46I think
01:15:48now it's time
01:15:49to find out
01:15:50how the Arsenal
01:15:51ladies fared
01:15:52this season
01:15:55well we've
01:15:56had a similar
01:15:57lot of success
01:15:58as to last season
01:15:59really
01:16:00we've done the cup double
01:16:01won the FA Cup
01:16:02and the League Cup
01:16:03first up
01:16:04was the women's
01:16:05Premier League Cup
01:16:06the ladies coming back
01:16:07from 1-0 down
01:16:08Marianne Spacey
01:16:09scoring the decisive
01:16:10third goal
01:16:11to claim the cup
01:16:12for Arsenal
01:16:146 weeks later
01:16:15the ladies were
01:16:16battling for the
01:16:17FA Challenge Cup
01:16:18Claire Wheatley
01:16:19sealed the game
01:16:20with a well taken
01:16:21goal after Southampton
01:16:22had conceded
01:16:23an own goal
01:16:27we've done a double
01:16:28double if you like
01:16:29with the cup
01:16:30so we're fairly
01:16:31pleased
01:16:32all the girls
01:16:33really have worked
01:16:34well right the way
01:16:35through from the
01:16:36goalkeeper
01:16:37worked really hard
01:16:38in training
01:16:39and reaped the
01:16:40rewards at the
01:16:41end of the season
01:16:42which we're really
01:16:43pleased about
01:16:44we finished runners
01:16:45up in the league
01:16:46purely because
01:16:47well not the only
01:16:48reason but we lost
01:16:49a game against
01:16:50Tramway back in
01:16:51October and that
01:16:52seems to have
01:16:53cost us quite a lot
01:16:54but we seem to have
01:16:55thrown it away
01:16:56ourselves because
01:16:57we've had two goal
01:16:58leads over our
01:16:59main rivals and
01:17:00we've let them
01:17:01come back and
01:17:02draw in those
01:17:03games and it
01:17:04seems to have
01:17:05cost us because
01:17:06we've just lost
01:17:07the league by
01:17:08three points
01:17:09at the end of
01:17:10April Arsenal
01:17:11Good afternoon
01:17:12ladies and gentlemen
01:17:13thank you very much
01:17:14for coming and
01:17:15welcome to Arsenal
01:17:16now we normally
01:17:17have press conferences
01:17:18to announce the
01:17:19signing of a new
01:17:20player well we
01:17:21have a new player
01:17:22but this time it's
01:17:23off the field
01:17:24and a very major
01:17:25player too
01:17:26Sega
01:17:27I'm at LiveJVC
01:17:28which is quite
01:17:29remarkable they
01:17:30were very good
01:17:31sponsors to us
01:17:32in the last 18
01:17:33years or whatever
01:17:34it was but you
01:17:35know I'm still in
01:17:36there and it's
01:17:37new times and
01:17:38I think it's
01:17:39going to be
01:17:40fantastic
01:17:41I think my little
01:17:42boy is going to
01:17:43be pleased
01:17:44we thought that the
01:17:45fit was right with
01:17:46Sega particularly
01:17:47because they
01:17:48appeal their
01:17:49equipment their
01:17:50games really go for
01:17:51the younger audience
01:17:52that's the audience
01:17:53that we need to
01:17:54cultivate as well
01:17:55our junior gunners
01:17:56and in fact junior
01:17:57supporters around the
01:17:58world whether
01:17:59Arsenal supporters
01:18:00or other supporters
01:18:01doesn't matter
01:18:02because that is
01:18:03it's the youth of
01:18:04the day that are
01:18:05going to follow
01:18:06ultimately their

01:19:36Go Mars!
01:19:44The action may have been at White Hart Lane on the 5th of May
01:19:47but back at Highbury
01:19:4813,600 Gooners came to watch their heroes on the big screen
01:19:58Anelka
01:20:00I believe that they enjoy the way they play
01:20:04and when you enjoy the way you play
01:20:05you can always concentrate on it
01:20:10and forget the consequences of the results
01:20:14and that's why I think
01:20:16what comes out from our game is
01:20:19players are happy to play
01:20:21and when you're happy to play
01:20:22you forget about the pressure a little bit
01:20:24but of course
01:20:25they have as well a lot of experience
01:20:27when you see the players
01:20:28the number of games our defenders have played
01:20:31and even some players
01:20:33even some players like Bergkamp, Petit
01:20:35they have a lot of experience now
01:20:37so they can live with it
01:20:39I think you've just got to take every game one game at a time
01:20:42and do your best, that's all you can do
01:20:44you go out and give 100%
01:20:46and that's all the manager wants you to do
01:20:47he knows that if we do that
01:20:49and we've got the ability in the side to win the games
01:20:53Anelka
01:20:55Winterburn
01:20:56Morgan Mars going outside
01:20:57if Winterburn has other ideas
01:21:00Bergkamp
01:21:04and Batty
01:21:07typically abrasively
01:21:10getting involved with Pala here
01:21:15Anelka
01:21:26Deeper corner
01:21:28Vieira is there
01:21:29and Keown
01:21:30but it was Tony Adams I think
01:21:32who came closest to scoring
01:21:35over Mars
01:21:38it's gone behind
01:21:46Keown
01:21:51Keown
01:21:53and they've got two in here
01:21:54Leeds, Smith
01:21:55and Keown
01:21:56and it's Smith sent tumbling by Martin Keown
01:21:59Keown
01:22:01Ian Hart only recently has taken on the penalty duties for Leeds
01:22:04here he comes
01:22:05off the bar
01:22:07Hasselbeck
01:22:08and Seaman has saved it
01:22:10it's still 0-0
01:22:15Vieira, great play from him
01:22:18Anelka
01:22:20and
01:22:21Radebe
01:22:23Kanu is there
01:22:24Diawara off the line
01:22:26Woodgate
01:22:29Diawara
01:22:30skimming the top of the crossbar
01:22:36Keown
01:22:38Oh Hasselbeck is free
01:22:40and Jimmy Floyd
01:22:41Hasselbeck has done it to Arsenal again
01:22:44and may well have
01:22:45ended the championship challenge
01:22:49So despite the midweek games
01:22:51it all went well
01:22:52and it's still 0-0
01:22:53and it's still 0-0
01:22:54and it's still 0-0
01:22:55and it's still 0-0
01:22:56and it's still 0-0
01:22:57So despite the midweek games
01:22:58it all came down to the last game of the season
01:23:01The players are not nervous
01:23:02I think a lot of us have been in this situation before
01:23:05and we try to let the fans
01:23:08sort of be nervous for us if you like
01:23:11We've been successful again this year
01:23:13as in we got to the semi-final of the FA Cup
01:23:15and we're pushing really hard for the league
01:23:18and after last season people didn't expect you to do that
01:23:20but let's just take it as everyday life
01:23:24you see the youngsters here
01:23:25and it's like water off a duck's back with them
01:23:27they don't seem to have any pressures at all
01:23:30which I'm sure is a good thing
01:23:32If Man United wins on Sunday
01:23:33we'll make 79 points
01:23:35If we win on Sunday
01:23:36we'll make 78 points
01:23:38We won the league last year with 78 points
01:23:40That means if we maintain
01:23:44we win on Sunday
01:23:46we'll make 156 points in two seasons
01:23:50Considering the quality of the Premier League
01:23:53it's remarkable
01:23:54It was a day of mixed feelings for the fans at Highbury
01:23:57Last season I always felt we were going to do it
01:23:59because we had such a strong run
01:24:00This season it's been so up and down
01:24:02and so tight all the way through
01:24:04that right up until now
01:24:06I assume we're still on the last day of the season
01:24:07not knowing, so hard to say really
01:24:10In my heart I'd say Arsenal, in my head, don't know
01:24:13I've never seen an Arsenal side playing football
01:24:16like the football that's been played this season
01:24:18Towards the end of last season
01:24:20they were very, very good
01:24:21This season they've been totally excellent
01:24:23and for them to finish runners-up
01:24:24after playing the sort of football they have played this season
01:24:27it'll be heartbreaking
01:24:29If Manchester United drew with Spurs
01:24:31and Arsenal won
01:24:32the trophy would remain at Highbury
01:24:34Could Spurs help their north London rivals?
01:24:38Parler
01:24:41Calderwood coming across with Anelka
01:24:43who tries to take him on with a swift turn
01:24:46Calderwood shrewd enough to buy himself
01:24:48and his team a bit of time
01:24:51Petit
01:24:54That's a lead, Dixonwell forward
01:24:56and the shot by Vieira
01:24:57kept out by Michael Oakes
01:25:05It was Merson who touched it on
01:25:08and then Anelka did likewise for Arsenal
01:25:10Bird cap, over Mars
01:25:12Vieira's in the centre, over Mars
01:25:14goes for goal himself
01:25:15it comes off the legs of Oakes
01:25:19Now Gareth Southgate's going back by the post
01:25:21as he did against Manchester United recently
01:25:23and he was in the right place
01:25:24to keep Birdcap's free kick out
01:25:26With the score at 0-0 at Highbury
01:25:28drama was unfolding at Old Trafford
01:25:30The Arsenal fans celebrated a Tottenham goal
01:25:33for the first time
01:25:34thereby giving Arsenal hope
01:25:35that the title was still up for grabs
01:25:41Birdcap
01:25:47Youngberg's there
01:25:49and the
01:25:51the bedjaw saved by Michael Oakes from Anelka
01:25:55More Arsenal pressure
01:25:57Kanu
01:25:58and this time they have broken through
01:26:02Hopes are still alive at Highbury
01:26:11The Nigerian again
01:26:15and who knows
01:26:16maybe again in the nick of time
01:26:21Unfortunately it wasn't to be
01:26:23as news filtered through from Old Trafford
01:26:25that United had won
01:26:29The Highbury heroes took to the pitch
01:26:31one last time
01:26:32and the applause was mutual
01:26:37When you think that we have done 21 games
01:26:4116 victories, 4 draws
01:26:43and 1 loss since December
01:26:46it's amazing
01:26:47but Man United had a great season as well
01:26:49that's why it wasn't good enough
01:26:51So there it is
01:26:52after 10 months and 38 league games
01:26:54there was only a point to divide
01:26:55the top two teams in England
01:26:58One of the targets next season
01:27:00is to do well in Europe
01:27:02and in the Championship
01:27:05We have improved
01:27:07compared to the beginning of last season
01:27:09and the kind of football we play at the moment
01:27:12I think the whole team has improved a lot
01:27:16We have the best defence in Europe
01:27:18don't forget that
01:27:21We love to win
01:27:22and we are winners
01:27:23Every other position in the top
01:27:26is not good enough
