00:00President Bongbong Marcos is already in Laos to attend the ASEAN Summit.
00:04Last night, he helped the leader of Vietnam to discuss the incidents in the South China Sea.
00:11This is Ivan Mayrin's breaking news.
00:16President Bongbong Marcos' first official engagement in the Laos People's Democratic Republic
00:20is their bilateral meeting with the Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
00:24The leaders of the Philippines and Vietnam are committed to the reconciliation between the two countries,
00:27particularly in terms of agriculture and fisheries.
00:30Vietnam is one of the main importers of rice in the Philippines.
00:34Aside from that, the two countries have the same experience
00:37in the incidents of Chinese harassment of fishermen.
00:40A few days ago, 10 Vietnamese fishermen were injured in the harassment of Chinese forces
00:45which also includes the exclusive economic zone of Vietnam
00:48just like what we can see in the EEZ of the Philippines.
00:52As part of the talks of reconciliation,
00:54the leaders of the incident prevention in the South China Sea met.
01:01After the bilateral meeting, the President visited the Philippine community here in Lao PDR.
01:07This is the President's first time in Laos.
01:09He admitted that he did not expect that there are more than 2,000 Filipinos working
01:13and making a good mark here in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
01:17There are 400 members of the Philippine community who visited the meeting.
01:22The Filipinos here are highly regarded by Ambassador Dina Joy Amato.
01:26There are many teachers, engineers, managers, and skilled workers.
01:31The President welcomed the Filipinos here and thanked them for giving a good name to the Philippines.
01:36He also explained that he will participate to promote the well-being of the Filipinos
01:40by enforcing transnational crimes such as human trafficking
01:44where some Filipinos are also victims.
01:47The world and our region are facing challenging times.
01:51From conflicts in Europe to the Middle East,
01:54to global existential threats such as climate change and natural and man-made disasters,
01:59to transnational crime and economic downturns.
02:02All these, in one way or another, affect the lives and livelihoods
02:06of peace-loving and hard-working people like yourselves.
02:11So my participation and that of the Philippines in the ASEAN meetings
02:15is precisely to find ways to cooperate with partners
02:19to better meet the challenges of today,
02:21to forge a better future for our beloved Philippines.
