00:00Yes, after 10 plus years of using an iPhone, of being an iPhone user, Apple fanboy,
00:07I decided to switch.
00:10More specifically, I got a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra,
00:14which is probably the best Android phone money can buy right now.
00:18It has the best cameras, the best processor, the best display,
00:22and it is crazy for me to say this, but at least this phone, the S24 Ultra,
00:29I think is better than the iPhone.
00:31There are so many features and options on this phone
00:35that are either better than what we have on the Apple side
00:38or that are simply not available on the Apple side.
00:42When I first got my hands on it, for example,
00:44the first thing that caught my attention was the OS layout
00:49because it is quite different than the one I had on the iPhone.
00:52There is this home screen setup where you can add your most used apps,
00:57the ones you use 90% of the time,
00:59but then if you need something else every once in a while,
01:03you have a customizable library with every other app.
01:07And I make emphasis on that it's customizable
01:09because that is not a thing on the iPhone.
01:12Technically, on the iPhone, you also have an app library.
01:14You have to swipe all the way to the right
01:17and it's more of like a scroll down system instead of pages,
01:21but it's very different.
01:22It is not customizable at all.
01:24Apple sets everything up for you in their folders,
01:27with their names and their apps in the folders
01:30they think are better for you in your app library.
01:34But I mean, from experience when I had it on the iPhone,
01:37that is not even close to the way
01:40that I would have liked to organize things on my iPhone.
01:43On the S24 Ultra or any other Samsung phone,
01:46you do have that customization.
01:48And for me, at least, it has been the difference
01:50between not using the app library on the iPhone
01:53and using it on the S24 Ultra.
01:56Then of course, there is also a lot of features
01:58that are simply not available on the iPhone, like the S Pen.
02:02This is a little pen that sits inside of the phone
02:05and that, you guessed it, can draw things on your display
02:09with a surprising level of precision and low latency.
02:12And I'm gonna be completely honest,
02:14when I first got the phone, like a lot of people,
02:17I thought it was going to be a gimmick.
02:19You know, this little plastic-y pen
02:21that's probably not even good quality
02:23and that I'm never gonna use, that's what I thought.
02:25But I was wrong.
02:26Beyond its size, I would say it works as well
02:30as a $100 dedicated Apple Pencil.
02:32Another one of those cool features is Samsung DeX,
02:35which is probably the most mind-blowing thing
02:38I've ever seen on a phone.
02:39It lets you turn your phone
02:41into a full-blown desktop computer
02:44to browse the web, send emails,
02:46and use any app that's available on your phone.
02:49It is pretty insane that you can do this with a phone
02:52and it is pretty insane
02:53that you cannot do it with an iPhone.
02:55Well, probably you will be able to do it eventually
02:58on the iPhone 25 or something,
03:01but I feel like that's a pattern we see a lot with iPhones.
03:04You do end up getting those cool features
03:06that you see on Android,
03:08but you see it eight, nine, 10 years later, like USB-C.
03:12That was a thing on the Samsung Galaxy S7 in 2017.
03:16That is seven years before we saw it on the iPhone.
03:20Or we were talking about it a minute ago, the app library.
03:23We saw it on the first,
03:25I think the first Android phone ever with Android One,
03:28but it took Apple, I think 13 or 14 iterations of iOS
03:32to include an app library on their phones.
03:34And even then, it is not even close
03:36when it comes to customization
03:38to what we had on the first Android phone.
03:41It is pretty mind-boggling.
03:43That's actually one of the reasons
03:45why I started thinking about switching.
03:47It's because technically what we had always heard
03:50was that Apple was late, but they did it the Apple way.
03:53And that was always better.
03:55They found a twist to improve on the feature
03:58and make it better.
03:59And then it was worth waiting so long for that feature.
04:02But lately, I don't think that has been the case.
04:05Like with USB-C, they didn't add anything
04:08that you have on any Android phone with USB-C
04:11or with the app library.
04:12They made a worse version of the app library
04:14or with widgets or with bigger displays
04:17or pretty much every modern feature
04:19that we had first on Android and then on the iPhone.
04:22I don't think Apple has added any flavor,
04:24any twist or any add-on to justify taking five more years
04:29to implement the feature on their phones.
04:31Another big surprise with my S24 Ultra
04:34was the overall experience when using it.
04:36When I first got the phone, it was very fast.
04:39Everything loaded up at the speed of light
04:41and I didn't feel any hiccups or stutters
04:43when moving around the system,
04:44which is something that I was honestly expecting.
04:47It is a $1,300 Android phone
04:49and it is supposed to be very fast.
04:51But I have to say, I didn't expect
04:54for this to last for long.
04:56There is this common misconception
04:58that when you buy an Android phone,
05:00it works very fast for the first couple of weeks,
05:02but then it starts slowing down
05:04and becoming more laggy and stuttery as time goes by
05:08until one or two years in,
05:10you have a very bad experience with the phone.
05:12So of course, that is what I was expecting
05:15with the S24 Ultra to work incredibly fast at lunch
05:19and then slowly slow down and show more lag,
05:23show more stutter, show more problems as time went on,
05:27but it didn't.
05:28It didn't slow down at all.
05:30Actually now six months in,
05:32it is as fast as it was on day one, as fast.
05:36It has not slowed down one bit.
05:38And let me double down on this
05:41because I've been making videos on this channel.
05:43I bought a couple other phones to review on the channel,
05:47including old Samsung phones like the S20 and the S21,
05:51which are a lot less capable than this one
05:53and have already had some software updates.
05:56But even then, even those phones are also incredibly fast,
06:00incredibly smooth and incredibly reliable.
06:02I was honestly blown away.
06:04Android phones, or at least Samsung phones,
06:07which are the ones that I've had experience with
06:09are as smooth, as optimized, as fast,
06:12as fluid as an iPhone.
06:15And I'm not really sure
06:16where all of this misconceptions come from,
06:18but I have them and a lot of people do too.
06:20Even when it comes to performance inside of apps,
06:23I heard so many people say that Samsung phones
06:26had stuttery timelines on Instagram and Twitter.
06:29And look, maybe that was the case in the past,
06:3310 years ago, I don't know.
06:35But as of today in August, 2024,
06:37the S24 Ultra and those other two phones,
06:40the S20 and S21, which are the ones that I've tried,
06:43have very smooth and stable timelines
06:45in both of those apps.
06:46What is true though, about Android phones versus iPhones,
06:50and I can say this now from experience,
06:52is that the video on these apps, for some reason,
06:55still looks better when it comes from an iPhone.
06:58I have done the test comparing both
07:00to see how big of a difference it actually was.
07:03And although it is not as big
07:05as some people make it seem to be,
07:07I still think the iPhone looks a little bit better.
07:10To be fair though, I have done some investigation
07:13and this has nothing to do with the quality of the cameras
07:16on the actual phone.
07:18I think this is because the iPhone captures the data
07:21on those apps straight from the sensors,
07:23straight from the cameras.
07:25And on Android phones, it does sort of like a screen capture
07:29of the camera of the phone.
07:31So it's like a double layer of compression,
07:34which always makes it look a little bit worse.
07:36That's the reason there's a difference
07:38in the visual way they look.
07:40I'm not an expert on the topic,
07:41but that's bottom line what's happening.
07:43The iPhone captures video
07:44and Android phones capture a screen capture of the video.
07:49Also, speaking of cameras, the S24 Ultra has,
07:53well, pretty much everything you could expect
07:55from a flagship phone in 2024.
07:57And I'm not going to get into the specs and stats
07:59because this is not a normal review,
08:02but I do want to speak about the video quality on this phone
08:05because there's another one of those misconceptions.
08:08A lot of people seem to think
08:10that iPhones have better video than every other phone,
08:14every other Android phone.
08:15Because of the codecs,
08:16because of the way Apple processes video,
08:19the common belief is that iPhones always look better
08:23than the rest of Android phones.
08:24And maybe that used to be the case.
08:27I'm not denying that.
08:28I'm pretty sure actually that used to be the case
08:30because I remember watching a comparison videos
08:33back in 2016, 2017 of iPhone,
08:36what, iPhone X versus Galaxy S9 footage.
08:39And yes, the iPhone X captured noticeably better video
08:43than the S9, even though they both had comparable lenses,
08:46comparable sensors.
08:47But I feel like, well, not I feel like,
08:50I know now for a fact
08:51because I have tested the S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro
08:56and I know it is not the case anymore.
08:58And you're going to know right now
09:00because I'm going to show you.
09:01This is a video I captured
09:02with my S24 Ultra and my 15 Pro right next to each other.
09:07And there is no way on earth
09:09you can confidently say one is better than the other.
09:13The only real difference I notice are the colors.
09:16As always, Samsung is a little bit more vibrant
09:18and the iPhone is a little bit more natural looking.
09:21Even when I zoom in to like try to see detail,
09:23I don't really notice any difference.
09:25I mean, if you stick your eyes to the screen
09:28and go frame by frame, analyzing all the variables,
09:31I'm pretty sure there are going to be some differences,
09:34but they are both very, very close.
09:36What is clearly still better on the iPhone,
09:38let's be fair, is the smoothness of the camera app
09:42when changing between cameras.
09:44It is like dark magic on the iPhone.
09:46I mean, it's really amazing.
09:48It literally feels like you're just zooming in.
09:50There's no visible adjustments or color shifts,
09:53which are unfortunately a little bit more apparent
09:55on the S24 Ultra.
09:56Okay, so performance is great.
10:00We have amazing features that we don't have on the iPhone.
10:03The cameras are great, apps work good too.
10:06There's only really one thing left
10:09to talk about the big deal about owning an iPhone
10:12or any other Apple product, which is the ecosystem,
10:16iMessage, AirDrop, iCloud, all of these apps
10:20connecting to each other in different ways.
10:23Well, yes, yes, it is true.
10:26Just because I switched to the S24 Ultra or to Android,
10:30I'm not going to bash Apple, and I'm gonna be fair.
10:32I believe the Apple ecosystem is good.
10:35I mean, it's a great ecosystem.
10:37There's a lot of ways to connect devices to each other.
10:40It works very seamlessly, very good.
10:42It is not a bad ecosystem.
10:45But what a lot of people don't know
10:46is that it is not the only ecosystem
10:49you can have when you buy a phone.
10:51There's also other ecosystems you can take advantage of,
10:54and one of the biggest ones I've seen
10:57is the Samsung ecosystem.
10:59Samsung makes watches, phones, earbuds,
11:02tablets, TVs, laptops, fridges, microwaves,
11:06washers, ovens, AC systems, air purifiers.
11:10Samsung makes a lot of products.
11:13And even though this wasn't always the case back in the day,
11:16I feel like lately they have been implementing
11:19a lot of ecosystem features between all these devices,
11:23like Quick Share, which is like AirDrop but faster,
11:26or the SmartThings app,
11:27which lets you control your TV using your phone.
11:30On top, of course, of all the Google ecosystem features,
11:33because at the end of the day, this is also an Android phone,
11:36on top of the fact that most apps nowadays
11:40store your data in the cloud instead of on your device,
11:43so you can access that data in all of your devices
11:46anywhere you go.
11:47For example, you don't need an ecosystem
11:49to sync your music with Spotify.
11:51That was probably the biggest eye-opener for me,
11:53to be honest, because the one thing that was keeping me
11:56from even considering changing lanes
11:59and going the Android route
12:01was that I was not going to have
12:03all of my seamless connections between devices,
12:06and that I thought I was gonna go back to the Stone Age
12:09because I didn't have an iPhone.
12:11But I started looking into all of these things
12:13that I've been telling you about,
12:14and I was like, wait a minute.
12:16Actually, if I set everything up right,
12:19which I haven't yet, as you can see,
12:21I still have a Mac.
12:22I probably am going to switch that to a Windows
12:24because it has better optimization
12:27connection with Android phones.
12:29But as I said, I started looking into all of these things,
12:31and I realized it is as big, as powerful of an ecosystem
12:36than the one that I have on the iPhone,
12:38if not better, because as I said,
12:40they make pretty much everything.
12:42Imagine being able to connect,
12:43have features that connect your air purifier
12:46with your phone so you can do things
12:47you could only do when both phones are from the same brand.
12:50I mean, the opportunities here are endless.
12:53I'm excited to see what Samsung does in the future.
12:56And yeah, this is sort of like a disclaimer for Apple users
12:59that have that mentality that I had.
13:01This is no longer the case, my friends.
13:03There is light beyond the Apple tunnel.
13:06Do research, trust me, you'll be blown away.
13:09There's really only one thing that I miss
13:13about the Apple ecosystem,
13:14and that is the Apple Notes app.
13:17I know, you're probably gonna laugh at me
13:19because it's such an absurd thing to say,
13:21but my friends, this is a free app
13:23that syncs between your phone and your computer,
13:26even if it's a Windows computer,
13:28and lets you create folders inside of folders
13:31inside of folders up to five levels deep.
13:33As I said, it may sound a little absurd,
13:35but there is no other free app that lets you do this.
13:39Google Keep is free and accessible from all my devices,
13:42but for some weird reason,
13:44it doesn't let me create folders inside of folders.
13:46Samsung Notes is also free
13:48and lets me create folders inside of folders,
13:51but it's not available on my computer.
13:53And every other decent third-party app
13:55has some sort of limitation or paywall
13:58to access all their functionalities.
13:59I mean, it is really not that big of a deal.
14:02What I've done is to keep using Apple Notes on my computer
14:05and then send some of those notes to Google Keep
14:08so I can access them on my phone,
14:11which is a little bit more complicated, but it's fine.
14:14It's really not the end of the world.
14:15I barely use Notes on my phone anyways.
14:17And as I said, that was the only thing,
14:19the only gripe that I had when switching to Android.
14:23I know people living in the US
14:25are going to have another gripe,
14:27the blue bubble, green bubble thing.
14:29You're not gonna be able to use iMessage,
14:31so people are gonna think you're weird
14:32because you use an Android phone,
14:35but that is no longer the case, my friends.
14:37Actually, I don't really need this.
14:39I've done the research for the video
14:40so I can help all of you US citizens
14:44get a better, smoother transition.
14:46There's this app called Beeper
14:47that's not sponsoring this video.
14:49It is actually the only app doing this.
14:50If there was another app,
14:52I would also include it in the list of apps
14:54that do this thing.
14:56Anyways, that lets you basically use iMessage
15:00through their app.
15:01I think what they're doing is they have servers
15:03with a lot of Mac devices.
15:05So you basically give the app your Apple ID
15:08and they sort of like text through their Mac servers
15:12and then send the messages to the phone.
15:14They do a weird mechanism,
15:16but bottom line,
15:17if you text someone using Beeper on your Android phone,
15:20they will see blue bubbles.
15:22So they will think you have an iPhone
15:23and they won't think you're weird,
15:25which I feel like is mainly the reason
15:27why people don't wanna switch and get the green bubbles.
15:30You can also access most of the iMessage functionality
15:32like reacting to messages,
15:35liking or emojis, all those things.
15:37I think the only ones missing
15:38are the latest ones from iOS 18 or 17.
15:41But yeah, I mean, it's a pretty decent thing.
15:44It's free also.
15:45So yeah, there's no excuses.
15:47As I said at the beginning,
15:48I have been using it for six months now
15:50as my personal phone.
15:52So I feel like I have properly now switched
15:56from iPhone to Android.
15:57And there's so many things that I have learned,
16:00so many improvements and features
16:02that I quite simply didn't have before.
16:04My only issue with the S24 Ultra,
16:07and I've said this many, many times,
16:09people keep bashing me in the comments for it.
16:11I don't care.
16:12It is my opinion.
16:13I think the S24 Ultra,
16:15it is a little bit too big.
16:17I would love to have a S24 Ultra
16:20with a smaller size,
16:21just like we have on the iPhone.
16:22We have a Pro Max and Pro model
16:24that's a little bit smaller.
16:25That would be incredible
16:26because I didn't want it to go for the basic S24
16:29because I would be missing on some
16:30of the cool features of the Ultra.
16:33But I also didn't want it to, you know,
16:34have such a big phone.
16:35I mean, it's fine.
16:36It's not the end of the world.
16:37You get used to it.
16:38It's not that big of a deal.
16:40But ideally,
16:42I would like for it to be a little bit smaller.
16:44That's the only one thing that's like,
16:46it's keeping it from being the perfect phone.
16:49And please,
16:50calm down on the comment section.
16:51Okay?
16:52As I said, it is just my personal opinion.
16:54It is not a bad thing for it to be big.
16:57A lot of people buy it because it's big.
16:59I personally just don't like that big of a phone.
17:02Anyways,
17:03if you want to get the S24 Ultra,
17:05there is a link in the description
17:07with the best prize that I found on Amazon.
17:10I really hope you enjoyed this video.
17:12I really hope you found it helpful
17:14if you're an Apple user.
17:16And I will see you in the next video.
