00:00Galaxy S23 Ultra versus Galaxy S22 Ultra.
00:05One of them is a little bit more expensive, but a little bit better, and the other one
00:09is a little bit cheaper, but a little bit worse.
00:11In this video, I'm going to compare them in every single way possible to find out which
00:15one is the one you should buy.
00:18As always, let's begin by talking a little bit about the exterior design, which, as you
00:22can see, is very similar in both phones, not to say almost identical.
00:28The only small difference is that the S23 looks a little bit more simple, a little bit
00:33more minimalistic, which is kind of the current trend in terms of design.
00:36Although, as I said, the S22 is practically identical.
00:41Changes are microscopical, and in general, the two phones have a more than decent design.
00:46In fact, in my humble opinion, this is the best design I've ever seen on a Samsung phone
00:51ever.
00:52So, I'm going to give both the point in terms of design, and move on to the processor, which
00:57is a feature that's not so similar between the two phones.
01:01On one hand, we have the S22 with the Snapdragon 8 Generation 1, which is last year's top tier
01:07Android processor, and currently one of the best processors in the world, although it
01:12has a flaw, quite an ugly flaw, which is that it gets very, very hot when you play games,
01:19when you're using a specific app for a long time, or in general, when you're doing things
01:23that are a little bit demanding with the phone, the processor heats up like hell,
01:28and therefore, performance drops, so the phone can cool down.
01:31This is not a huge deal, like a lot of people think it is.
01:34This processor is better than the one on the S21 Ultra, it is very good.
01:39This overheating issue only affects in certain situations, but it is a problem.
01:44It affects performance, it makes it a lot worse than it should be, and although Samsung
01:48created a very good dissipation system to make this problem as least problematic as
01:55possible, it's still a problem, and it creates a very big gap with the Snapdragon 8 Generation
02:022, which is the one on the S23 Ultra, which doesn't have any of those overheating issues,
02:08on top of having better single-core performance, and slightly better multi-core performance.
02:14So it is a considerable improvement over the S22 Ultra, because not only it's faster,
02:19it's better, but it doesn't have, as I said, those overheating issues.
02:22So we're going to give the performance point to the S23, and move on to the battery, where,
02:28spoiler alert, both phones are insanely good, very, very good, but before we get to the
02:34individual results to see which one is better, I have to tell you that you can find both
02:39the S23 Ultra and the S22 Ultra at a very, very, very good price on Amazon.
02:45You can find a direct link in the description, so if at the end of the video you decide whether
02:49you want to buy the S23 or the S22, you can check the prices there, because they're way
02:53better than the ones on the official Samsung store.
02:56But anyways, let's talk about the battery, that as you can see, although, as I said earlier,
03:00is very good on both phones, it's a little bit better on the S23 Ultra, with between
03:055-10% more battery capacity, to be precise.
03:09And this is very interesting, because they both have the same 5000 mAh battery unit,
03:15so you would think, by the specs, by the numbers, they would have around the same battery life.
03:20But because the S23 doesn't have those overheating issues, because the processor is more optimized,
03:26and because it has, we'll talk about it later, a better refresh rate panel that adapts to
03:33the content you're consuming better, the display, better display technology, it also
03:40saves a little bit more battery life there, and it ends up having between 5-10% more battery.
03:45So let's give the battery points to the S23, and continue by talking a little bit about
03:50the display, starting with the S23, which has a 6.8 inch OLED panel with 1750 nits of
03:57brightness, very good brightness, and Gorilla Glass Victus II protection, the best smartphone
04:03glass you can get right now, which are almost identical specs to the ones we can find on
04:08the S22 Ultra, which also has a 6.8 inch OLED panel with 1750 nits of brightness, but it
04:15has the normal Gorilla Glass Victus, not the second generation Victus.
04:19Sure, the S23 Ultra is better, but I'm going to give both phones the point in the display
04:25category, because the differences are so tiny, so, so tiny between Gorilla Glass Victus II
04:32and one that I don't think it's even worth it to notice or to acknowledge.
04:37And finally, it's time to talk about the main feature, the most important component for
04:42the vast majority of people, which is the camera unit.
04:45In the S23, we have four cameras, a 200 megapixel main camera, very crazy megapixel count, two
04:5310 megapixel zoom cameras, and a 12 megapixel ultrawide, which is exactly the same we can
04:59find on the S22 Ultra, although it only, quote unquote, only has 108 megapixels instead
05:06of 200 on the main camera.
05:08And although in general, both phones are very, very good in terms of camera, video, and everything,
05:14I've noticed a couple of very nice improvements on the S23 camera as opposed to the S22.
05:19For example, here on the main camera, I've noticed how the sensor lets in more light,
05:23there's more detail, and overall, pictures look a little bit better and more crispy.
05:28Although that may be due to a change in the processing technique.
05:31To be completely honest, I don't distinguish the changes at a first glance.
05:35I have to put them side by side, zoom in, look closely, and reason out the small differences
05:41I find because otherwise I wouldn't be able to declare a winner.
05:44Which is the same thing I can tell you about the zoom camera.
05:47I see changes that are more or less noticeable depending on the picture, but they are not
05:51big enough to see right away.
05:53Where I haven't noticed any differences is in the ultrawide camera.
05:57I think both phones have the same sensor, and I don't think Samsung has updated any
06:02of the other camera components on the S23 because these photos look almost identical.
06:07And the small differences you can see are probably due to the slight angle changes or
06:10camera settings when taking the photo because remember, the two cameras are in automatic
06:15mode so you don't really ever know the ISO, aperture, and all that stuff when you're taking
06:19the picture.
06:49I always say this, camera differences are going to get smaller and smaller and smaller
06:59as time goes by because there's a physical size limitation.
07:02There is a reason why professional cinematography cameras are this big, is because the bigger
07:08the sensor, the more light that gets in, and the better image, the more detail you can
07:13get.
07:15Phones are very small and they have very small sensors.
07:18There's a limitation, a physical limitation there, so it's normal that the two phones
07:22are very similar and probably the S24 Ultra is also going to be almost identical.
07:27And well, everything I've said also applies to video, of course.
07:30The S23 Ultra looks a little bit better, a little bit more crispy, maybe better colors,
07:35but you have to put them side by side and pay very close attention to see those differences.
07:41I see a lot of people still to this day in 2023 get way too excited about megapixel counts.
07:46Oh, the S23 has 200 megapixels and the S22 only has a hundred, that means it's twice
07:52as good.
07:53No, it's not twice as good.
07:55Actually, if you buy an S23 Ultra, you're going to take 12 megapixel photos.
07:59If you buy an S22 Ultra, you're going to take 12 megapixel photos.
08:03They all end up taking between 12 and 16 megapixel pictures because that's the perfect ratio
08:08size sensor size and megapixels to take a good looking photo.
08:12So it's well in conclusion, I don't want to get too technical, but it doesn't really
08:16matter.
08:17The megapixel count is just marketing.
08:19I'm going to give a half a point more to the S23 Ultra, which as you can see, has a total
08:24of 2.5 more points than the S22.
08:28Obviously it is a newer phone, it is more expensive, so it has to be better.
08:32I can't really declare a winner to be honest.
08:34I think as I said at the beginning of the video, one of them is a little bit better,
08:38but a little bit more expensive.
08:39The other one is a little bit worse, but a little bit cheaper.
08:42I don't really know what to say.
08:44I think they're both amazing and it's time for you to decide.
08:47I can't really give you a solid answer.
08:49What I can tell you is that both phones have very, very, very good prices on Amazon.
08:54There's direct links in the description for both of the phones.
08:57Trust me, don't get them on the Samsung's website.
