00:00A head-on collision between a passenger bus and a heavy-duty vehicle in Kombé along the
00:22Saint-Mélim-en-Balmayeur stretch leaves 15 dead and 10 badly injured, blamed on reckless
00:27driving Governor Félix Ngele Ngele, as says the wounded in hospital. Memories of the Mbangkolo
00:34mudslide, which claims 28 souls, linger on as survivors remain reminiscent of that dark
00:40Saturday night one year ago. Vegetation has replaced the rubble, but the pain and grief
00:45for the diseased and three missing persists. A swift shift to vocational training essential
00:52in enhancing employability and personal development, Minister Issa Chiroma Bakari
00:57launches the academic year in the sector, with emphasis laid on the integration of artificial
01:04intelligence in all fields of study. Those were the headlines of the 7.30 News. Thanks for joining
01:11us. I am Esther Kima. We begin our 30-minute newscast on a sad note, where 15 persons have
01:18died and 10 others battling for survival after a ghastly road accident in Kombé along the Saint-Mélim-en-Balmayeur
01:26stretch, following a head-on collision between a commercial bus and a heavy-duty vehicle.
01:31The governor of the south region, Félix Ngele Ngele, has been on the side to ensure free medical
01:36care is provided to the injured hospitalized. Clarence Azay reports on the tragedy.
01:43According to Eyewitness account, the fatal accident occurred at about 7.30am this Wednesday at a bend in Kombé.
01:50The direction of the truck was from Yaoundé, while the bus was from Saint-Mélim-en-Balmayeur.
01:56I only heard a loud noise and when I turned and went closer, I saw a man screaming and I couldn't
02:01do anything to save them since I was alone. So I alerted my children who came and immediately
02:06started rescuing those who were still alive. On the side, the rubble of the heavy-duty truck
02:12and the bus tell of how violent the collision was. Informed, South Governor Félix Ngele Ngele,
02:18alongside the commander of the South Gendarmerie Legion, the regional delegate for national
02:22security, Anja and Lobo Ezio, quickly rushed to the side of the hecatomb to assess the situation.
02:28The accident was very tragic. The outcome is very heavy. We recorded close to 15 persons declared dead.
02:35We will plead with the Minister of Public Works for this section of the road to be adjusted
02:43because each month we are recording such accidents. The 15 dead bodies are lying in the morgue of the
02:49Saint-Mélima referral hospital and the 10 survivors are battling with threatening injuries at the
02:55emergency unit of the same health facility. Governor Félix Ngele Ngele has instructed that
03:00they be administered medical care free of charge. We extend our condolences to the bereaved and
03:06courage to the injured. In other news, vocational training centers across Cameroon have officially
03:12begun the 2024-2025 academic year today. Launched by the Minister of Employment and Vocational
03:19Training, Issachiroma Bakary, this year's focus is vocational training in the era of artificial
03:25intelligence. Integrating the evolutionary technology in training programs will guarantee
03:30self-employment and job market assimilation. Emanuela Vermeule has the details. Artificial
03:38intelligence changing the narrative for these trainees in diverse vocational training fields.
03:44The digital tool has become their new companion, easing the learning process and opening them up
03:49to the global world. To detect any fault, we do not need to dismantle the car. This device helps
03:57us detect the fault using AI. I have built this health monitor capable of measuring body
04:05temperature, heartbeat and oxygen saturation. It can send an alert message to a health professional
04:12for intervention. The new school year for vocational training in Cameroon is thus
04:17anchored on AI, described as a ticket to the future since it can be integrated in all fields.
04:25Since two years, we introduced AI in all fields of study to ensure that
04:30trainees are competent upon graduation. Embracing such technology, officials believe
04:37will save vocational training from becoming obsolete and enable trainees explore fields
04:42like cyber security, robotics and more. Vocational training is the most important tool
04:49to fight against poverty and unemployment of the youth. You have a possibility to create
04:56wealth and good. You have to take your own responsibility, being the creator of your own
05:03future. A journey of skill acquisition and self-development.
05:08Job creators instead of job seekers is paying off in Cameroon today. Fields that had hitherto
05:15been neglected at captivating a good chunk of trainees who now opt for auto mechanics,
05:20woodwork and interior design courses. Vocational training centers, though still in wants
05:25of adequately equipped workshops, have produced outstanding trainees.
05:30Beatrice Goom trailed three of these graduates. Here's a report on their exploits.
05:36Meet Eric Achoo, a CEO in his 40s, trained at the community technical and commercial college
05:43Koteg Bafut. Carpentry has been his job for well over 10 years. He has trained 16 people
05:50and is making a comfortable living in this vocational field.
05:54A good finishing is to put good materials on what you are doing. If not, you cannot have good
06:01customers. When my children are advising them to do technical education, because what I'm
06:07getting today is because of technical. At Oleswa, no mechanical breakdown scares
06:15price Tiwa. The youth spent two years in a vocational school and upon graduation
06:22was recruited in this garage. I have a back in automobile mechanic
06:28and two years in a vocational school. I am now a mechanic.
06:32I work here on salary and train students when on internship.
06:36Since 2021, many have trusted him with their cars as the list of his apprentices grows.
06:44Every time I bring my vehicle here, he give me a lot of satisfaction.
06:53Meanwhile, with an advanced level certificate in designing,
06:57Melanie Zhang later diverted to general decoration and the women's vocational
07:02training center in Koldongo received her. Vocational training has helped me a lot.
07:09I am able to fend for myself and help my husband. It's rewarding.
07:14These ones are excelling after their vocational training and many more are embracing these fields
07:21that are self-employing.
07:24The news focus tonight is on the most essential parts of a university, which helps
07:29support study, teaching and research. We're talking here about the library.
07:33At the University of Yangon de Toswa, law students have a main library on campus,
07:38which contains about 35,000 books. This number is in commensurate with the demand.
07:43Officials, however, say acquiring new material and creating a virtual library are in process.
07:49Cynthia Saptala tells us more.
07:53Situated at the heart of the campus, it is the destination for those in search
07:57of additional knowledge on political science, economics, management, law and more.
08:03The library can help me to learn new things about the subject.
08:09As a master's student, I was able to get research ideas from past
08:15phases, especially how they approach a particular topic.
08:20Created in 2002, the campus library of the University of Yangon de Toswa currently has
08:26a capacity of 200 places and possesses about 35,000 educational books for students,
08:33lecturers, researchers and even visitors.
08:38The library is for the entire university community. In our documentation,
08:42apart from published works specific to the university,
08:46we also have books of general interest like science, ICT.
08:50School authorities say given the high demand,
08:53efforts are being made to acquire new material each year.
08:58There is budget each year to buy new books and heads of departments send us their list.
09:04Even students themselves make their request. We consult publishers on new publications.
09:10Last year, we had a budget of 5 million for physical books.
09:14We have launched a process of digitalization so as to have the virtual library.
09:20Constructions for a new library began some years ago.
09:24It is projected to be the biggest in Central Africa when complete,
09:28a capacity of 1,000 seats with more than 100,000 books, conference halls and a printing press.
09:37In the far north region, Burleigh dates to the start of the academic year.
09:41Students of the Higher Teacher Training College of the University of Maruwa
09:45already throng the book rooms available. The classic library has over 14,000 books,
09:51dissertations and theses. There is also the Italian and Chinese libraries open to students.
09:57Amos Enonyaketagbo reports from the Kongola campus of the University of Maruwa.
10:03Le chinois au quotidien is being savored by the students of the Higher Teacher Training College
10:11at the University of Maruwa who is having her first lectures on the introduction
10:17into the Chinese language. Knowledge is found inside books. We use to ask our students
10:24to go there very often, very frequently to go to the library and we help them with
10:31with some skills, read books, to read everything they can find in our library.
10:38The documentation center of the Higher Teacher Training College, University of Maruwa,
10:43counts about 14,000 written materials made available for learners with about 80 users
10:52recorded on a daily basis. Efforts are underway to digitalize the documentation center with the
11:00purchase of softwares so as to provide soft copies of these materials to learners and also
11:09for better archiving. And now in Act 3 of our running series on businesses around university
11:16campuses, we spotlight documentation centers where secretariat staff play a primordial role in
11:22aiding students accomplish their academic work, trade in secretariat duties and oftentimes
11:27exhibiting a mastery in computing systems. They are usually indispensable in the completion of
11:33assignments. Romeo Kenyu reports that at the University of Yaounde-Tsou Swa, the cost depends
11:39on the volume of material requested. They do not only type confidential documents but they also
11:48type notes from students. The different sectors around the Yaounde-Tsou University in Swa have
11:54begun witnessing an increase in demand since universities reopened for the new academic year.
11:59We are typing the document for around 30 minutes. If it's the English document, the French document
12:08is very easy because we are in the francophone area. And when we are treating a document like
12:15the layout and some other modifications, we are taking time according to the document that we have
12:23to treat. Softwares like Word and Excel are the most used in typing although others are needed for
12:29specific assignments. Prices vary by the number of pages and it is often beneficial during moments
12:36when defense offices are organized. We can type a page for 300 francs just in case they are in
12:43need of it so urgently we can take 400. At times we do use phones to scan. From every indication
12:50the duties and responsibilities of office assistants cannot be underrated in students'
12:55educational life. In this education related news, preparations ahead of the 75th anniversary
13:02of Collège François-Xavier Watts under the theme Watts more than a college, a school of life, a family
13:08are heightening in Yaounde. The event scheduled to take place from November 11 to 17 is an opportunity
13:13to showcase the achievements of the school and its educational heritage. At the end of a press
13:19briefing today, the USA coordinator of the school's alumni, Christiaan Mejo Mezenge, outlined their vision.
13:25Take a listen. We are hoping to create a federation of what would essentially be a
13:35single alumni association. That way we can organize ourselves so we're not looking for students like
13:42we are right now. We could just send a message for everybody to come together and do this. We've
13:47about 80,000 of former Watts students. If we can federate them in a group where everybody gives
13:55100 francs a month, we should be able to supply everything the school may need in terms of
14:01needy students. On to one of our top stories. It is one year and a day since inhabitants
14:08of the Mbankolo neighborhood woke up to the bash of a dyke leaving 28 persons dead and three missing
14:14till date. The mudslide destroyed homes, property and farmland with the survivors getting relief
14:19from the state and persons of goodwill. 12 months on, the disaster zone is deserted and covered
14:25by vegetation but the bitter memories of the tragedy are still fresh. Alphonse Abongwa has the details.
14:34Vestiges of a bitter past. October 8, 2023, this dyke ceded to the pressure of water. A man-made
14:42lake dating to the German colonial era existed here. Torrential rainfalls that fateful Sunday
14:49weakened the dyke, unleashing its fury on the population. Homes, animals and 28 lives got
14:57swallowed up in the mudslide. Three people were declared missing and hundreds homeless.
15:03Inhabitants of the area are still recovering from this calamity.
15:08We are leaving these memories as though it were just yesterday.
15:13We lost a 20-year-old tenant and a house of six studios. The state offered us six months
15:19of house rent. After that, it's not been easy at all. Municipal and administrative
15:27authorities have not been indifferent to the plight of the hundreds of survivors.
15:32Yesterday, we organized an event for commemoration of this
15:40tragedy. The Yaounde 2 council, where Bankolo is situated, has opened its doors to victims
15:47wishing to re-establish civil status documents lost in the tragedy. Our office is ready to
15:55assist them to establish this document. Despite government's prohibition signs written all over
16:01the area, some diehards say they have nowhere to go. The beautiful petals that now envelop this
16:09valley of death are a strong symbol that the bitter pitch of Bankolo is now turning
16:17into something brighter and fairer. Something bright and fairer is what we hope for the
16:26divisional officer for Idabato. That takes us to the southwest region, where the divisional
16:31officer for Idabato, Roland Ewane, has still been kidnapped. His kidnappers have been given three
16:36days to release the civil administrator and a council staff taken hostage. Last October 1,
16:42the governor of the southwest region, Bernard Okale-Bilay, gave the injunction at a meeting
16:47in Idabato, where he also suspended all socioeconomic maritime activities till their
16:54release. Nuwaya Ben Mudika has the details. Southwest governor Bernard Okale-Bilay came to Idabato
17:03to see for himself the circumstances under which the divisional officer, Roland, and council
17:09staff, Etongo Ismael, were kidnapped. First of October, two o'clock, they forced the door. They went to
17:18the room in which one of my staff was sleeping. My name is Etongo. He's the store accountant. They
17:26asked him, are you Mr. Etongo? The boy said yes. They took the boy out, thinking that he's the
17:31mayor. They went now directly to the jail. For the governor, the accomplices are already known
17:39and cannot intimidate the state. I gave the population of Idabato, who are 95% Nigerian,
17:50to release the G.O. It is well established that the G.O. was kidnapped with the complicity of some
17:59Nigerian businessmen who refused to comply with the laws of the republic
18:05and their illegal activities. They refused to pay the taxes. Since maritime activities
18:11are the mainstay of the local population, the reinforcement of measures taken by the
18:17S.G.O. Fundian are to stamp the authority of the state here and to also guarantee expected results.
18:25Back in the nation's capital, CPD members of parliaments from the northwest region
18:29have held governments for the ongoing road projects in the region during a meeting with
18:34the minister of public works, Emmanuel Nganju-Messi. The team led by Honorable Njingu
18:39Musa Kwesto at the national assembly also appealed for the maintenance of communal roads in all
18:44the seven divisions of the northwest. Joyce Kimbefuwaju was there on our reports for the 730 News.
18:51It was far from a simple cutsy visit as the head of the northwest parliamentary delegation,
18:56Honorable Njingu Musa, reveals. I appreciate and thank him with his collaborator for
19:03implementing the vision of the head of state in enslaving the northwest region.
19:08Some have been many things have been done since the head of state gave instruction to the minister
19:13of public works. Some many are still being done and then we came to also clarify him on those
19:18that have to still be done. This working session gave room to a complete review of the road network
19:25of the region. A global exercise from division to division with all the seven divisions that make up
19:31the northwest visited. It will serve as a database for government's next road construction
19:37programming. A rich presentation that also touch ongoing construction projects in the region such
19:43as ring road, Babajubamenda, Bamenda urban crossing, urban roads in Kambe and Ndu amongst others.
19:51This gives reason for the appreciation. We are very very impressed because he has promised to us
19:57that many of those things that we have presented by all the divisions
20:00is going to be put into booking. At least majority of it will be done as he has promised to us.
20:06Their host minister Emmanuel Nganu Njumeisi promised the northwest MPs that he will
20:12satisfy their desire by visiting work sites in the region soon. And on today's good news,
20:18Cameroon's code of military justice has been elaborated. The five-chapter document enables
20:23the court to collect evidence in the line of oppression essential in judicial procedures for
20:28the prosecution of suspects. The operational guide presented to the ministry today gives
20:33soldiers basic knowledge in the defense of the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
20:38Kelly and Dan Diffon has the details. For lack of basic legal knowledge,
20:45mostly third category military staff in official assignments end up in jail for misconduct.
20:51Sometimes they fail to collect available evidence that can back up the prosecution
20:57case file against suspects of exactions. Such shortcomings in the battlefield now
21:03have solutions in the Cameroon code of military justice. A document produced under the instructions
21:09of the minister delegate at the presidency in charge of defense Joseph Beti Asoma. It is a
21:15five-chapter legal document. The first deal with constitution because the soldier is there first of
21:20all to defend the constitution and the state. The second deal with law organizing military justice.
21:28The third concerns weapons because the soldier his job consists of manipulating weapons all day
21:35long. The fourth deal with judicialization collecting evidence on the field of operation
21:41to bring them before the court who lead to a good judgment. Now the last deal with frequency
21:47aspirations. It was presented Wednesday to the secretary general in the ministry of defense
21:53and military chiefs of staff. The next phase of the document is to get it to the primary audience
21:59the soldiers. Now on to what is trendy on social media the max single titled Vivian
22:06authored by Cameroonian artist Prince Emei has garnered millions of views especially on TikTok.
22:13The viral sensation emanates from a short a cappella video by Ivorian star Debordo Likunfa.
22:18Larrice Nane-Porter is amongst the viewers and reports on how it is impacting the artist's career.
22:27Little did Ivorian Kope de Kale superstar Debordo Likunfa knew this freestyle will hit the world
22:34differently doing an a cappella on a popular single of Cameroonian artist Prince Emei titled Vivian.
22:43Today millions of users on social media platforms especially TikTok
22:47have jumped on the freestyle challenge to relate different situations.
22:55For example this couple uses it to portray a couple complicity with the Vivian sound.
23:04It is not limited just to Ivorians and Cameroonians as other nationals like Nigerians
23:09and others have joined the challenge with celebrities dancing to the rhythm.
23:18The Vivian challenge is hitting billions of views on social media platforms
23:22which is equally profitable to owners of monetized accounts.
23:28When many people view your channel and you are gaining followers
23:32what you ought to do is to activate the monetization of your account for you to gain.
23:38In Cameroon most of our artists limit themselves to the effect of births and the popularity that
23:44comes with it. They have to equally be keen on the rarities paid and ensure they have monetized
23:52accounts. According to news from some Cameroonian bloggers a collab is expected from Prince Emei
24:00and Depodo.
24:03Sterling culture Cameroon's iconic guitarist and singer Otto Marcelin is celebrating gold.
24:0950 years of thrilling the public with enticing tunes plus heartwarming and soul-searching
24:14messages is worth celebrating. A concert to that effect takes place this weekend and tickets are
24:20on selling areas like the Yaoundé conference center. Here's more on the musical show with
24:25Otto Marcelin.
24:30It is going to be a live concert at the Yaoundé conference center come Saturday 12 October 2024
24:36in celebration of my 50th anniversary. It is a celebration of excellence with multi-talented
24:42artists like Tonton Ebogu, Atebazor, Atebaz, Pokam Nasis and a host of other amazing surprises.
24:50The particularity of these artists is that their music is actually one that is adorable
24:55so I feel honored. We also have tickets of different prices and you can get the tickets
25:01at different sales points like the Yaoundé conference center and Santa Lucia van
25:06Ahala and Musso. The time for the concert is 8 pm prompt.
25:14Before we take sports let's have a reading of this National Hydrocarbons
25:18Corporation press release. The Glencoe case as announced reiterates its call for an investigation
25:23to be opened following its complaint lodged with the Special Criminal Courts of Yaoundé on the
25:286th of November 2003. The executive general manager of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation
25:35informs both the national and international opinion that amid the legal actions against
25:40the executives and employees of the multinational Glencoe for corruption of foreign agents,
25:46a pre-trial hearing was conducted by the Southwark Crown Court in London, United Kingdom on the 9th
25:52of October 2024 where a procedural timetable was established. During the hearing the judge
25:59with consensus from the legal representatives of all the parties delineated the key phases of the
26:05legal process including dates for evidence exchange for the pre-trial hearings and the
26:11pre-trial scheduled for June 2027. The developments from the UK judiciary provides
26:18Esenage with an opportunity to remind that it is still awaiting the commencement of hearings
26:24by the Special Criminal Courts pursuant of his complaint lodged on the 6th of November 2023.
26:31It is worth mentioning that the complaint by Esenage is subsequent to Glencoe's conviction
26:37of the Southwark Crown Courts with a ruling dated the 3rd of November 2023. The executive
26:43general manager of Esenage maintains optimism that the Cameroonian accomplices of these criminal
26:49acts recognized by Glencoe will be swiftly identified and punished in accordance with the
26:56relevant provisions of the Cameroonian Penal Code. It is signed by the executive general manager
27:02of Esenage, Adolphe Moudiki. Now on to sports. The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have had their
27:08fourth training session at the Yaoundé Nkwaekele Stadium today. Prior to Friday's AFCON qualifier
27:13against Kenya, head coach Mark Breeze is expected to fill in an 11-month squad that will bring
27:19victory. But what Indomitable Lions should we then expect to face? The Harambee Stars,
27:24Cyril Nwazeke met some football analysts. Now reports.
27:55Onana Ngo. He is the undisputed number one at present. A stable defense is required.
28:03A back four of Chatua at right back. Ngadu and Wu in central defense and Nuhu at left back.
28:13An intercepting, protective and disrupting midfield will be required to regain possession.
28:19Balibo and holding midfield. Zambo and Gisa and Hongla. Mark Breeze called up a cream of attackers.
28:28Making a choice won't be easy. We'll probably see Basogog, Mbwemo and Vincent Nabobakar.
28:37The system and players chosen by the head coach will only have to deliver the goods come Friday,
28:44analysts whispered. Now this advertorial to end this newscast. Over 3,000 students have graduated
28:50from the Sianto University Institute. They received their end of training assistants
28:56from a cream of personalities amongst whom was the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education,
29:00Professor Jacques Famendongo. The Sianto University Institute offers quality professional training
29:06to students from over 15 countries including South Korea. Pierre Anushka Bita tells us more.
29:14An oath of honesty, respect and commitment to their institution as they set out for the labor market.
29:22These graduates of the Sianto University Institute are holders of bachelor's, bachelor's and
29:27professional master's degrees. From 2022 to 2024, the Sianto University Institute produced 3,900
29:38graduates, representing a success rate of 98.14 percent in the bachelor, professional,
29:44master's and engineering cycles. We thank the University of Tonga, Banda, Boya, Douala, Yaoundé 1 for the
29:50Higher National Institute of Engineering and University of Yaoundé 2 in short, the academic supervision of lectures.
29:58Created in 1991, the Higher Education Institute initiated courses for English-speaking students
30:05in 2005. Today, the university partners with major foreign academic institutions
30:10and trains students from other horizons.
30:16Students trained here come from 15 countries. Southern Korea is one of these nations.
30:21Proof that the Sianto University Institute has become a place to be.
30:24Added to this, a partnership agreement has been signed between the Sianto Institute and the International School of Business Engineering based in Paris.
30:32Quality and professionalized education is not a subject of propaganda here.
30:40Students testify of the privilege they enjoy.
30:48I am pleased with the quality of training. We have the same lectures, equipment and instructors at the Higher National Institute of Engineering.
30:55Three months after my training, I was recruited by the second state institution for the construction
31:00of the new headquarters of the National Assembly.
31:05Eminent actors of academia from all 10 regions of the country converged on the Sianto University
31:11campus in Yaoundé as laureates received their transcripts and attestations.
31:19That ends this edition of the 7.30 news in which you mainly heard that it is a dark
31:23Wednesday at the level of the south region ahead on collision between a passenger bus
31:28and a heavy-duty vehicle in Kumbay along the Sangmanima Biomile stretchers left 15 persons dead
31:33and 10 badly injured.
31:40...has been to the Sangmanima hospital to ensure that the wounded receive free medical
31:45attention. More news comes up at 8.30 p.m.
31:48Rumiat, Itri Sengok, I'll be back tomorrow at 7.30 p.m.
31:52God willing, stay tuned to our programs on CRTV and on CRTV News.
31:56Good night, thanks for watching.
