Emancipation movie recap | In the time of slavery, one person stood against injustice and escaped because of his insistence

Over 150 years from today, back in 1863 at Lousiana, a black slave, Gordon, had dreamt of the freedom of black people. Freedom means living their life to the fullest, just like their "White" masters: who considered themselves the god of 'these Animals'. 'Emancipation' is a tale of a black slave who fought his whole life to live with honor, dignity, and of course, a "Normal life" This is the tale of a person who risked his life to join the Lincoln Army, fighting to free his fellow brothers-sisters-sons-daughters. This image of Gordon was taken in 1863 after he managed to be free from his slave master. This is the most accurate depiction of slavery I've seen.

00:00It is the year 1863.
00:02Peter works as a slave on a cotton plantation with his wife Dodian and their children.
00:08When he learns that he has been sold to a new master, he decides to spend one last moment
00:12with his family until the white men come to drag him out, ignoring their tyranny.
00:17But the oppressors do not hesitate to point their weapons at his wife, forcing Peter to
00:22stop immediately and accept to ride in the wagon himself.
00:26Unfortunately, the whites become vengeful and beat him before dragging him again.
00:31Peter and a group of other slaves are transported in a cage as if they were cattle.
00:37Behind bars, Peter promises his children that he will return for them one day, while they
00:42try to run after him in tears.
00:44After a long distance on the road, they arrive at their new work site, which coincides with
00:49the construction of a modern railway.
00:52Conditions here are worse than they were on the plantations.
00:55The heads of slaves who dared to disobey are hung at the entrance as a warning.
00:59The slaves sleep in cages, and even while they work hard, the white masters do not hesitate
01:05to beat and insult them.
01:07Many stray dogs are also sent after anyone who tries to escape.
01:11When slaves misbehave, they are usually whipped.
01:15Only but sometimes they are shot in front of everyone, and other times President Vassil
01:19puts a mark directly on their face.
01:22At Fazil's two men serve him who were also bought as slaves, but were chosen to be part
01:27of the guards because of their hunting skills.
01:29Peter tries hard to behave, but even when he tries to help his friend Jordan, who fell
01:34he is shouted at.
01:36One day after all the slaves are returned to their cage, they are forced to watch as
01:40John is thrown inside while writhing in pain because of his marked cheek.
01:45A slave named Thomas trembles with fear and Peter tries to comfort him asking him to remember
01:50his loved ones and not lose his faith in God who is always watching over them.
01:55John mocks his words, but Peter ignores his mockery and promises to pray for him.
02:01Later Peter hears the two white guards talking about some very important news.
02:06President Lincoln has freed the slaves and now everyone who managed to escape is running
02:10to Baton Rouge to ask for help.
02:12The conversation is suddenly interrupted when one of the guards notices that Thomas has
02:16made a mistake in the food and intends to punishing him, but Peter intervenes to defend
02:21him explaining that he is just a child who was beaten by the guard and pulls out his
02:26gun to point it at Peter and is about to kill him because of this impudence.
02:30But Fazil stops him because he is particularly interested in Peter because of his.
02:35Attitude later when Peter returns to the cage Fazil approaches him to tell him that he is
02:40his master and Peter is his dog now Peter responds by saying then you have to eat the
02:44same meat that dogs eat then Fazil laughs, but the next day he chains Pete and makes
02:49him kneel in front of him while his.
02:51Dog barks in his face Peter is only centimeters away and now the dog has memorized Peter's
02:57scent in his memory later at lunch Peter tells the other slaves about Lincoln Rouge which
03:01they can reach after five days of walking in the swamp.
03:04Some of the slaves hesitate because surviving in the swamps is not easy, but when Peter
03:09reminds them that they may not survive here either some of them agree with him and now
03:13they just need to wait for the right time to escape later a slave dies in the middle
03:18of.
03:19Work so the guards make Peter drag him to the pit where they throw the bodies there
03:22some of the white fugitives are also the ones who were ordered to dig, but as soon as they
03:27see Peter they say that the black man should do it instead and Peter ends up holding the
03:31shovel to fill the hole.
03:33Peter realizes that this is the perfect opportunity to start the plan so he waits patiently for
03:39the guards to be distracted by a nose in the field so he jumps on them and kills them with
03:43the shovel and steals a knife and runs away.
03:46The other worshippers and fugitives see this and seize the opportunity to start running
03:51as well and they beat up some guards allowing John to steal a gun.
03:55The other guards sound the alarm and immediately start shooting at the fugitives killing many
03:59of them before they get lost in the woods.
04:02They shoot the fugitives but he hates the fact that Peter got away with it and orders
04:06Harrington and knows to chase him with the dogs.
04:09Peter manages to cooperate with three of his friends and guides them through the woods
04:14while watching for any approaching danger.
04:17They eventually reach the swamps and most of them manage to cross safely but Thomas
04:21freezes in place when he sees the crocodiles allowing the dogs to catch up with him.
04:26If the monsters do enough damage, he calls them back and asks them to tell him where
04:30the group is going but Thomas refuses to answer.
04:34In a break, they make a deal.
04:36If Thomas tells him where the others are going, he will be allowed to leave.
04:40Horrified, Thomas admits what he knows and actually lets him go to the swamp but as soon
04:45as he turns around, Axe shoots him and lets the crocodiles eat him.
04:50Meanwhile, he has safely crossed the swamp.
04:53Peter thinks they should go to the other swamps but John refuses to take orders from anyone.
04:59He decides to go his own way.
05:01He feels he can stay safe thanks to the gun he stole.
05:04Gordon wants to follow Peter wherever he goes but Peter thinks it would be difficult
05:09to track them if they split up.
05:11So Gordon makes his own way through the forest after reminding him in his upbringing of following
05:16the sound of Lincoln's guns.
05:18Peter sets off on his way and discovers that his leg is bleeding because he was shot earlier.
05:23He has to do something about this or the dogs will smell blood but first he has to get away
05:28to keep between himself and Vasil.
05:31Moments later, Peter finds a house owned by a white family who also own slaves.
05:36First, Peter grabs a log from a tree and ties his injured leg to it then sneaks in by staying
05:43hidden behind a pile of bushes which allows him to reach some water from the pump.
05:48He notices clothes hanging on a rope.
05:50Peter risks and crosses the garden to steal a shirt then runs towards the forest but one
05:55of the family's children spots him and alerts everyone by ringing the bell.
06:00Vasil hears the sound and pushes him into the house where the family tells him the direction
06:05from which Peter set out.
06:07Peter runs with all his might and stops to bandage his wound with the shirt he stole.
06:12Then he takes off the blood-stained shirt and hides it under a log where the dogs find
06:17it while Peter hides under the swamp water.
06:20Vasil and his men fall for the trick and head in another direction, believing that Peter
06:25has crossed the swamp but he actually comes out after the pursuers leave.
06:30Suddenly, a crocodile attacks him so he quickly pushes it away with a large log then kills
06:36it with a knife.
06:37At that moment, Dudian wakes up from a nightmare in which she saw her husband in danger.
06:43The children also wake up worried about their father but Dudian reassures them that he is
06:47alive and he will come soon because he has survived things that no other man can survive.
06:53When night falls, Peter hides in a tree and uses his knife to remove the swamp hangers
06:58from his body, causing some blood to drip onto the surrounding plants.
07:03Meanwhile, Vasil and his men find the dead crocodile and open it to find it empty, meaning
07:09that Peter escaped from here.
07:11The pursuers decide to spend the night and eat the crocodile, prompting Haran to praise
07:16Peter's skills.
07:18Vasil immediately rebukes him for this and tells him about the lesson his father taught
07:22him, saying that if you give the blacks a little, they will ask for more and will take
07:27their jobs and lands.
07:29The next morning, Peter continues walking, making sure to cover himself with all the
07:34animals to absorb his scent.
07:36While crossing another swamp, he thinks about his family and prays to his gods.
07:41When the sun suddenly rises on him, he takes it as a sign while Vasil divides his group
07:47to cover more places.
07:48Peter finds an abandoned treehouse with clean water and some leftover food.
07:53There is also hot coal, so Peter uses it to heat his knife and cauterize his leg wound.
07:59He then places the coal in the empty bucket.
08:02He carries it with him while climbing a tree to throw smoke on the beehive to keep the
08:06bees away and then take some honey.
08:08Vasil sees the smoke and runs towards it, but Peter has already set off on his way.
08:14The treehouse also has a boat in which the snake is hiding so Peter carefully pushes
08:18it away then gets on the boat and sails away while enjoying the honey.
08:23Meanwhile, the master approaches Dudian and tells her that he has sold her and that she
08:27will leave in two days and that her children will not be allowed to go with her because
08:31her master will give her a new husband.
08:34Dudian is very sad about this news because she wants to stay here until her husband returns
08:39so she plans to avoid being sold.
08:41So she goes to one of the machines used in cotton production and puts her hand inside
08:45pretending that she was hurt by returning to Vasil.
08:48He finds the treehouse with his dog's tail and is able to follow Peter's direction
08:53towards the river.
08:54Peter continues on his way to the forest and is surprised to meet John again who is angry
08:59because now the white men will come to him as well.
09:02Peter swears to him that no one is following him and tells John how to hide his scent but
09:07Johnny ignores him then they start running again after just a moment later.
09:11The dogs hear the barking and they rush to hide.
09:14Peter enters an empty trunk while Wings climbs the tree but the dogs manage to track John's
09:19scent and thus Vasalwa and his men manage to find him easily.
09:24John refuses to come down so Vasil forces him to fall with his bullets then violently
09:29interrogates him about Peter but John refuses to take his head and give it to Harrington
09:34and Norris to take it to the camp as a message.
09:37Peter closes his eyes to avoid the scene of his friend's violent death.
09:42After Vasil leaves, Peter comes out of hiding while it rains to discover exactly how they
09:47killed John which shocked him greatly.
09:50He forces himself to continue despite his great sadness then suddenly he sees a group
09:55of horses running near him, one of which is burning.
09:59Peter follows the direction they came from and finds a house on a farm but everything
10:03is on fire and all the whites are dead.
10:06It seems that the slaves here have received news of Wrinkle's liberation of the slaves
10:11and have acted on their own.
10:13Peter prepares to cut with his knife as he enters the house and slowly walks through
10:17the rooms until he finds the dining table.
10:20So he immediately gets rid of his caution and jumps on the food to feed his tired body.
10:25He doesn't stop until he hears a strange noise coming from the upper deck then follows
10:29it until he finds a young girl dying under a guitar playing as a call.
10:34Peter immediately rescues her and takes her outside where he puts her on a table before
10:38trying to get some water but the girl is scared and makes him stay with her while
10:43she gives him the cross necklace.
10:45Peter understood what she meant and took it from her and he became distracted to the point
10:49that he did not hear Herring approaching behind him until it was too late.
10:54Peter is forced to drop his knife and move away from the girl and the poor thing dies
10:59as soon as Peter leaves her.
11:01Peter becomes very angry so he turns violently and kills Herring using the cross on the necklace.
11:07At that moment, he also arrives but Peter thinks quickly and grabs Herring's weapon
11:12and shoots him.
11:14Noor tries to explain to Peter that someone who was able to kill a crocodile might accept
11:18a loser in his ranks but Peter calls him the worst and leaves him to die upon hearing him
11:23approaching because of the barking sound.
11:26Peter decides to run into the cotton fields to hide and when the dog approaches him, he
11:31shoots him.
11:32In the end, he comes across the corpse's butcher and he insists more on it.
11:38The next morning, Peter arrives at a beach full of the corpses of white men who were
11:42killed.
11:43They die during the confrontations against Lincoln's army.
11:47Unfortunately, he did not find any supplies to take.
11:50However, Peter can see ships in the distance and hear the cannons indicating that Lincoln's
11:55soldiers are close.
11:57He is excited at the idea of finally reaching freedom so he starts running again but suddenly
12:03Fassel appears on his horse and throws him to the ground.
12:06He offers him some meat and orders him to beg for him.
12:10Because Peter will not submit, he pulls out his gun and reminds Peter that he is his master.
12:16When he is about to pull the trigger, one of them shoots him first.
12:20Peter tells Fassel as he falls that he is not the master of anyone.
12:24Then he resorts to meeting his rescuers, who are Lincoln's soldiers led by Lt. Q.
12:30After that, the soldiers take him to the infirmary tent in their camp in Baton Rouge.
12:35Because his leg wound is infected, the nurse makes Peter rest.
12:39For a few days, he dreams of his family.
12:42If he feels better, Peter talks to one of the soldiers to get his new papers as a free
12:47man.
12:48Although he has to make up some information that he does not know, such as his age and
12:52a question of luck that will not allow him to leave.
12:55Searching for his family, the white soldiers exploit the fact that the slaves are contraband
12:59and are given two options, work on federal farms or join the army.
13:04Peter refuses to continue following orders.
13:07But when the soldier points out that joining the army could help him save his family and
13:12be free forever, Peter agrees.
13:14Peter then discovers that the army has also found Jordan, who is in pain but alive.
13:20Peter is happy to see him and sadly tells him about what happened to John.
13:24He then goes to see you for his uniform, but Q first asks him if he would be interested
13:29in helping the cause by taking something called a photograph.
13:33Peter is warned, but Q promises him that the white photographers are harmless.
13:38Well, it turns out that these people are taking pictures of the reality of slavery to tell
13:43the world.
13:44Peter agrees to show his bear back to the camera, revealing hundreds of scars from the
13:49shipping.
13:50Peter is then taken to see the general, who asks him for all the information he knows
13:54about the railroad that the enemy has built.
13:57After Peter tells them everything he knows, the general stares at him, his picture and
14:02indicates that those scars equal times of disobedience, which is not a good trait in
14:07a soldier.
14:08Q tries to take Peter away, but Peter defends himself, explaining that those scars mean
14:14that he has been beaten many times.
14:17But he did not stop fighting, which is also important for a soldier.
14:21At dawn, Q takes Peter and all his soldiers to the trenches and reminds them in a sincere
14:27speech that they are fighting for freedom.
14:29Many soldiers fall to enemy fire as they continue to march, continuing to fight without hesitation.
14:36Soon, fires break out everywhere and Peter is hit by an explosion that leaves him unconscious
14:42for a minute.
14:43As soon as he wakes up, he drags his aching body through the mud and continues to shoot
14:47the enemy whenever he gets the chance.
14:50Q falls in battle and eventually finds Peter Jordan, who is wounded.
14:55Seeing his friend in pain and fear inspires him to come out of hiding and run towards
15:00the enemy lines with the intention of stopping the guns.
15:03Thanks to all the soldiers who witnessed his bravery and followed him, the National Guard
15:08overcomes their enemies and achieves victory.
15:11After the war ends, the army visits every farm to liberate when the slaves arrive at
15:16the house where Peter was working.
15:18Everyone is shocked because they did not believe the news.
15:21But soon happiness takes over them after they finally understand that freedom is a reality.
15:26After witnessing the death of his former master at the hands of justice, Peter searches for
15:31his family and almost collapses when he does not find them.
15:35So he begins to pray and indeed finds his wife and children finally running to him to
15:40meet him and embrace him.
15:42Peter's picture became an immortal part of history and reached all parts of the world.
15:48In 1863, thanks to the Lincoln Declaration, more than 400,000 slaves escaped to freedom.
15:54By 1865, nearly 4 million slaves in America were recognized as free.
16:00In conclusion, we say, when did you enslave people when their mothers gave birth to them
16:05free?
