00:00On April 26, 2003, 27-year-old Aaron was walking through the Utah Gorge.

00:07He was alone and hadn't told anyone about his journey.

00:10Aaron is an experienced mountain climber who climbs the most beautiful peaks in the region.

00:15However, at the end of a remote canyon, something unexpected happens.

00:20A rock breaks above him and his arm gets stuck in the rock wall of the canyon.

00:25He is trapped, threatened by dehydration and hypothermia, and suffers from hallucinations.

00:31He begins to think about his past and wonders if the two girls who came before them in the

00:36canyon just before his accident will be the last people he will ever see.

00:40Five days later, he realizes that help will not come and he is now facing the most dangerous

00:46decision of his life.

00:48What is this decision?

00:49To understand why and how events unfold, let's go back to where it all began.

00:54This is Aaron, an engineer and professional mountain climber who spends his weekend exploring

00:59different parts of America.

01:01As a climber, he photographs moments of the most beautiful peaks in the region.

01:06On a Friday evening in April 2003, he decides to explore Bloodhound Canyon without telling

01:12anyone about his plans.

01:14As soon as arriving there, he spent a night of rest and in the morning he got on his bike

01:18and set off on the deserted paths and roads, after which he left his bike behind and continued

01:24on foot.

01:25Then he meets two missing girls and decides to accompany them after spending a few hours

01:30with them.

01:31He leaves them and they continue on their solitary journey.

01:34However, deep in a distant valley, the unimaginable happens.

01:39While descending into a valley opening, Rasta takes a wrong step and leans on an unstable

01:45rock.

01:46The rock collapses under his weight and falls on the Echo, trapping his right arm in a rock

01:51wall under a stone that he cannot move.

01:54He was trapped and threatened with dehydration and hypothermia.

01:58He began.

01:59Oh my God!

02:00The rock was about a meter wide and weighed about 75 kilograms.

02:04Baron's water supplies were low and no one knew where he was.

02:08He tried for minutes to pull his arm with all his might and then move the heavy rock,

02:13but to no avail.

02:15After his efforts failed, Ranstan decides to drink from his bottle, but he soon realizes

02:20that he has to save water.

02:22Baron begins to pull all his belongings and thinking of a way out, then he unscrews his

02:26watch with his teeth without difficulty after realizing that he is alone in the middle of

02:31an isolated place.

02:32He decides to take out all the equipment.

02:34He brought a watch, a water bag, a digital camera, and grabs the multi-purpose knife

02:39to cut the rock and bring it down.

02:41He continues to do this throughout the night, the leader in that, at the same time he tries

02:44to sleep.

02:45But to no avail.

02:46He spends several hours trying to free himself from under the rock that trapped him using

02:52every tool he has like a knife and a rope from his backpack, but none of these tools

02:56bear fruit here the day comes.

02:59The sun floods the valley recalling memories of Aaron with his father when he was a child

03:03arm begins filming himself with the camera to narrate his adventures and keep messages

03:08to his loved ones after believing for a moment that someone was near him and could save him.

03:13Arlon realizes that they have to face reality to avoid drowning in despair with the fall

03:17of night.

03:18Arlon recovers himself this time to face the cold and signs of hallucinations.

03:23Begin to appear on him the next day with all the ropes and rings in his place.

03:28Aaron tried to lift the stone with his arm and then with his feet, but to no avail.

03:33He continues to talk to the camera and announces worrying results.

03:37The severe lack of water that decreases every hour will force him to drink his urine.

03:42Even if someone arrives, they will not help him because there is a high probability that

03:47he will bleed to death before receiving medical care.

03:50He decided that it is better for the rescuers to believe that he is dead.

03:54In this shattered state of mind, he tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the

03:59chest with a knife.

04:00But he remembered something that one of his friends had once said to him.

04:04He told him that suicide is a cowardly act because it contradicts the will of God.

04:09Now, even as he faces certain death, Aaron remembered his friend's words and decided

04:14not to give up because he realized that suicide is not much different from the situation he

04:19is in.

04:20So, why would he commit such an act?

04:22However, he accidentally cuts his hand when he removed the knife from his body and he

04:27faints from the excessive loss of blood.

04:30Aaron wakes up again and performs CPR on himself without any noticeable results then he asks

04:36himself how did he get here.

04:38After long hours of thinking, he comes to a surprising conclusion.

04:42Since there is no chance to return home alone, he needs to free himself from the rock.

04:47This conclusion leads to a worse result.

04:50He now knows what to do, but more importantly, he knew that doing so is almost impossible.

04:56The painful truth is that if no one finds him within 8 hours, he will never be found.

05:01Therefore, at this stage, he is able to make a very difficult decision, which is to amputate

05:07his arm above the elbow with a small, dull knife in his first attempt.

05:12After using a tourniquet, he tries to cut his arm with the blade of a multipurpose knife,

05:17but this does not work.

05:19He slowly loses consciousness and begins to recall memories of his family.

05:24He wakes up suddenly to the sound of thunder and is exposed to heavy rain.

05:28The water in the valley rose very quickly.

05:31Then he was able to lift the rock and return to his car.

05:34When he reached his lover's house, he asks for help without saying a word, but she closes

05:40the door in his face.

05:41It turns out that this vision is just a dream.

05:44At dawn, he begins to hallucinate and imagines himself as a guest on a program.

05:50A dialogue where the presenter and one of the listeners make fun of him.

05:54Then he realizes the seriousness of his mistake in not giving any indication of his trip to

05:58his relatives because the police cannot start searching for him until a time when he may

06:13Arm makes a second attempt at amputation after overcoming his anxiety by stabbing a knife

06:18in his arm.

06:19However, he cannot break the bones with the blunt tool.

06:23As night falls, he continues to cut the rock with his knife and again suffers from it increasingly

06:29as if someone is spying on him.

06:31During the day, he imagines many people such as his family members and friends to whom

06:36he apologized again and blew John.

06:38The person after whom the valley was named after after all his hopes were shattered.

06:43Arm begins to think about everything that has happened to him since he was a child.

06:48He believes that this rock has been waiting for him from the beginning.

06:51So he engraves on it his name with his date of birth and death like a tombstone in case

06:55things go wrong for him after six days and five nights of failed attempts to get rid

07:00of it.

07:01The obstacles are severe dehydration, hunger, and suffering from hypothermia.

07:06He imagines a young boy as his future son.

07:09This last hallucination gives him the courage to continue his strict decision to cut off

07:14his right arm forever.

07:16Because the knife is poor and worn out due to overuse, he uses a rock to crush his bones

07:21and cuts the flesh, muscles, blood vessels, and nerves.

07:25The severe pain continues for more than an hour.

07:29Finally, he is free.

07:31He pushes the crack and reaches the edge of the abyss.

07:34He was able to land with the help of his equipment and his only right arm.

07:38Aron began walking towards his car, 11 kilometers away.

07:42When his condition worsened, he met some hikers who saved him.
