00:00I always love every week talking to Coach Terry Bowden.
00:06You can catch the Bowden Blitz podcast.
00:08It's badass.
00:09You can follow him on X at the Bowden Blitz and everyone knows what he's accomplished
00:15as a coach.
00:16We love him talking college football on Coast to Coast every week.
00:20Coach, you know, I got to start with that Canes game in Berkeley down 35 to 10 and what
00:27Cam Ward pulled out of his arse to win that game.
00:32I'm sorry.
00:33That puts him back on top in the Heisman for me.
00:37The kid Jenny's been unbelievable.
00:38They're not giving the Heisman to some kid at Boise State unless he runs for 4,000 yards.
00:42I'm sorry.
00:43So for me, it's Ward and Hunter 1-2.
00:48I'm all in.
00:49I think that's the 1-2 rate it's going to go at Cam Ward.
00:51I think he's the best in the country and he's the best at leading his team.
00:55No team in America depends on their quarterback as much as Miami.
00:59That's good and that's bad, but he is by far the best.
01:02He can do about anything with the ball.
01:04There's nothing he can't do.
01:05I'm a little bit concerned about some of the judgments decisions he makes early.
01:09It's almost like he's baiting the other team to get a little bit of a lead.
01:12He gets himself in trouble doing some poor like he threw an interception right after
01:16halftime.
01:17It was just up for grabs and you know he knew that was a bad judgment, but he is so talented,
01:22so good.
01:23It's kind of like Brett Favre.
01:25You got to take the good with the bad.
01:26When you get a great one, you got to take the good with the bad.
01:28Honestly, that game, I thought my, I thought I was going to have another heart attack.
01:33I've already had one.
01:34I thought I was going to have another one.
01:35Like I was losing my mind.
01:37All right, tonight we got Utah ranked going into Tempe to take on a tough Arizona State
01:44team that's 4-1 as well.
01:47They're laying five and a half to Utes.
01:50I'll tell you that the Utes with Cam Risen, I think Risen is expected to start.
01:55He was the reason they were picked preseason to win the conference.
01:58They got annihilated by BYU, but he's back supposedly healthy.
02:03I don't think they would play him if he wasn't healthy, but Arizona State has a great running
02:07attack.
02:08If they can keep Utah off the field and keep Cam Rising on the bench where he's been the
02:11last three or four weeks, they can come back and win things, but I'm going with Utah tonight
02:16against the spread.
02:17Yeah, I'm with you.
02:18I really, I think they'll get it.
02:20They always own Arizona State.
02:23It's just inevitable.
02:24All right, the Red River tomorrow in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl, Texas and Oklahoma.
02:30I got to tell you, Coach, based on history, that number is too big for me.
02:35Yeah, I think it's too big for me too.
02:37The fact that the only way Oklahoma could win because they don't have much offense is
02:41to play great defense, keep their run the football, although they're not going to score
02:45very much, keep Texas offense off the field because they've got too many weapons offensively
02:50at Texas.
02:51So Oklahoma doesn't have ability to score a lot of points there.
02:54And I should know Zach, Zach Alley, the offensive defense coordinator at Oklahoma was my defensive
03:00coordinator at ULM and AJ Million Way, the quarterback coach at Texas was my coordinator
03:05for nine years.
03:06And so I know a little bit of insight there, but I think Texas offense is more than Oklahoma's
03:12defense and that's who's going to have to win the game.
03:15Listen, they've treated yours poorly before that Oklahoma defense.
03:19I remember a game, he had three turnovers against them and they racked him and he's
03:25been out.
03:26Do you think there'll be any return to that?
03:28Well, I'm thinking that's part of growing up, probably learning how to be a quarterback.
03:32What is he, a seven year veteran?
03:34He's been there forever and he's done a great job, but he's a veteran now.
03:37He's more experienced.
03:38I don't see him making those kinds of mistakes in a game like this.
03:43So tomorrow and Eugene at Outson Stadium, beautiful spot, tough place to play.
03:49But if anyone can do it, it's this Ohio State team, man, are they stacked.
03:58So I think we lost coach at some level here, coach, do I have you?
04:03I got you now.
04:04What was that?
04:05So I was saying, if anyone can beat Oregon at Outson, it'd be this Ohio State team.
04:10They're so loaded.
04:11Yeah.
04:12You know, I can't, I'm really a fond of Oregon, I play for Oregon and that stadium, Outson
04:16Stadium.
04:17I've been there.
04:18I coached there.
04:19I've broadcasted games at the stadium.
04:20It's not that big, but it's right on the field.
04:22There's no room between the stands and the field or side by side.
04:26It's a great environment to play if you're Oregon.
04:29But man, if you can beat Ohio State, you're better than the Big Ten because Ohio State
04:33to me has the most talent of anybody in the country.
04:36There may be the best team in the country.
04:37They just haven't played anybody.
04:39I don't think people know what they're getting, but they're going to know this weekend.
04:42But Ohio State to me, best talent, best team in the Big Ten.
04:47And I don't believe it.
04:48I think Oregon fits right in with the Big Ten, but I don't believe right now we're going
04:51to see them be number one of the Big Ten this Saturday.
04:54All right.
04:55How about Ole Miss at Death Valley against LSU?
04:58That's going to be a great game.
04:59Tough place to play under the lights.
05:02That's the toughest place I've ever coached.
05:03I've been there about seven times coaching with my dad, four times, three times when
05:07I was at Auburn.
05:09It's the most intimidating home field environment, and at night, and Brian Kelly, the head coach,
05:15he's not lost at night.
05:16He's 12-0 at night, has not lost since he's been there.
05:20But you know, this is the 100th anniversary of their stadium, and they have added millions
05:24of dollars worth of jumbotrons and lights and strobe lights, and I'm going to be honest
05:29with you, that's the one place where I have to give the home field advantage a lot of
05:33points because I think that's the difference in these two games.
05:35The other thing being, LSU was off last week.
05:38They're healthy.
05:39They've got their players all healthy to go.
05:41Ole Miss has been beat up in some tough games.
05:43Trey Harris, their star receiver, I don't think he'll play, and so I like LSU, again,
05:48to beat the team and beat the spread.
05:50Yeah, I'm with you, Coach.
05:52K-State going to Boulder to take on Primes-Buffaloes.
05:56Yeah, I'm a Deion fan.
05:59I just always – Deion took one of the toughest jobs in American football.
06:03Can he be a great Division I coach?
06:05If he'd have taken a great Division I program, I bet you'd see a lot more, but he's done
06:09a great job at Colorado, but they don't have – again, the athletes that keep going.
06:13Kansas State, again, has just got the conference's best team.
06:16I think I would pick them.
06:18The one thing Deion is not doing, he still doesn't have a running attack, and once you
06:22get against your better opponents, you've got to run the football to keep the pressure
06:26off your quarterback.
06:27They've got a great quarterback.
06:28Shadur Sanders is an outstanding quarterback.
06:31He's not going to be a first-round draft pick, and probably will be, but you've got
06:34to get pressure off him and you've got to run the football, and so they have to get
06:37better at that.
06:38For that reason, Kansas State, which I think is going to be – I think they're now going
06:42to give Utah that run for their money in the conference, and they'll beat Colorado this
06:46week.
06:47Yeah, I'm with you.
06:48I'm with you here as well, Coach.
06:50Florida going to Tennessee.
06:51Tennessee – I had Arkansas last week in Fayetteville getting 14.
06:55I think Tennessee gets right at home in Knoxville against the Gators.
07:00Well, you know, if they're going to get right, they need to get their mojo back.
07:03They've got to go back to being what Josh Heupel is.
07:06He's a vertical passing game coach.
07:08Everybody thinks he's a run-first-throw-second because he runs so much, but he runs so much
07:12because people are already playing the pass by the time the first play starts, but if
07:16he doesn't hit more vertical passes, that's what they lack, the vertical passing game
07:20to back the safeties off.
07:22He runs the inside zone.
07:23It doesn't work unless you get the safeties out of there, and you've got to throw deep,
07:26But when they're at home and they're comfortable, I think that's where they're playing best.
07:30To me, there's no question at home they're going to win this football game.
07:33I'm not quite ready yet until I see the quarterback play with a little more consistency on his
07:37passing game to say they're going to beat the spread.
07:40So last week, I had UCLA in 28-and-a-half at Happy Valley, and they covered UCLA lost
07:47whatever, 27-10.
07:49Do you think Penn State handles their business at the Coliseum against USC, who's lost a
07:55couple of games?
07:56Yes, I do.
07:57I think Penn State will go out there and do what they, you know, they've been like the
08:00third person at the Big Ten.
08:04There's Ohio State, there's Michigan, and then there's Penn State.
08:06They're 5-0 every year, and then they lose a game they're supposed to.
08:09Well, they've got a very, very good team this year.
08:11They're solid, and I think this is a perfect opportunity.
08:13Southern Cal is playing below the standard they thought they were going to be when the
08:17season began, and I like the talent and the physicality of Penn State, and I think they
08:22go out there, and they beat against the spread.
08:24They win the game, and they beat USC out there on the West Coast.
08:27Does Arizona have a shot in Provo against a 5-0 BYU team laying three?
08:33I'm sorry, I didn't hear you.
08:34Who was that now?
08:36Do you think Arizona can give BYU a game in Provo?
08:41I don't think so.
08:42I think BYU gets that one.
08:44I think they've got a little stronger team.
08:45Arizona is picked pretty high.
08:47They've been hot and cold, so again, it's a matter if they get hot, but I do believe
08:50I'd go with BYU.
08:52And 20 seconds, Iowa State's in Morgantown against the Mountaineers.
08:57Do you think that'll be a good game?
08:58You know, I'm a Mountaineer.
08:59I did play for the Mountaineers, or at least I sat on that bench for the Mountaineers.
09:03I was a tailback.
09:04Every time I'd go on the field, my dad would tell me to get my tail back on the bench.
09:07That being said, I have a hard time.
09:11I'd love to see West Virginia win, but I think this team is just too strong, and that the
09:15old Mountaineer field is going to be one where they have to take a loss.
