00:00We always love pay three Fridays because we get the legendary coach Terry Bowden on coast
00:08to coast.
00:09You can catch his podcast the Bowden Blitz as well on SportsGrid.
00:14And every Friday right here, second hour, we do all the plays that matter Friday and
00:19Saturday in college football.
00:20Coach, good to see you down in Monroe, Louisiana.
00:24Let's start with the game tonight in Vegas with Boise ranked against UNLV, a really good
00:33game at Allegiant and Sin City.
00:36You think they can handle their business on the road against the Rebels?
00:39They've been through so much, allegedly, you know, their quarterback quit on them, but
00:43they still play tough.
00:45I like Odom.
00:46I like the job he's done with that team.
00:47That's going to be a wild football game, isn't it?
00:50These are the top, they're both in the top five in scoring.
00:52They both know how to put points on the board.
00:55Hard to go against Ashton Gentry, though, the team Boise State, as well as he's playing.
01:00He is just impossible to stop.
01:02And that's kind of rule one, two and three.
01:05They've got to stop him, but nobody has stopped him.
01:08So my thoughts are they're going to have to outscore him.
01:10It's going to be a high scoring game because they'll be trying to keep up with and they
01:13have the ability to because they have such a good offense.
01:16They have the ability to score points and they're going to have to keep scoring because
01:18you can't stop Ashton Gentry.
01:20Now, listen, let's just get real here.
01:23At late night on Fox, they got Rutgers and USC in LA and USC is laying two touchdowns.
01:31I'm not sure they can score two touchdowns.
01:34I mean, both these teams, this is bad.
01:36Both these teams have lost their last three.
01:38Huge disappointment, especially in Los Angeles for Southern Cal.
01:42I just don't know if you can make this a high point game.
01:45And I have a tendency to take Rutgers, but when I, you know, I'm just old enough to never
01:50take Rutgers over USC, but I'm thinking that's the way you got to go, you know, but that's
01:54that's how that's like Miami being 21 on FSU and we're not even going there yet.
01:59Yeah, we haven't gone there yet, but we will.
02:03I got to tell you, all right, so let's go to tomorrow, Indiana put 56 on Nebraska in
02:11Bloomington and now the Huskers have to play at the shoe in Columbus against Ohio State
02:17and Ohio State's on the penthouse floor.
02:21Indiana's on like the 10th floor of that skyscraper.
02:24Yeah, Nebraska, this is not one of those if it's just a how much game.
02:28I mean, that's all it's going to be.
02:29You're talking about Nebraska in Ohio State, then Ohio State having a week off to play
02:34in this game.
02:35They got, and they were upset.
02:36They got there and they're not feeling too good because they lost their game to Oregon.
02:40And so they've been thinking and thinking about this game.
02:42So this is one of those where Nebraska that doesn't have enough talent, Ohio State, I
02:46don't care if they lost by one point or two points to Oregon.
02:49They're still the most talented team in the country when it comes to NFL players, and
02:53they'll get back on track and they'll take it out of Nebraska.
02:57Yeah, I think so without a doubt.
02:59And they're going to be a playoff team come hell or high water.
03:03I could even see Ohio State meet in Oregon again for a national championship.
03:09Oh, absolutely.
03:10I think Ohio State to me, and I'm going to go that route with Texas too, who lost a game
03:14to Georgia.
03:16These three teams or four teams have the most talent in the country, Oregon, Ohio State,
03:20Georgia, Texas.
03:21Even if they lose a game, they're still in the national conference, I mean the football
03:26championship series.
03:27And so they've got plenty of chance to make up for that loss.
03:30All right, let's talk about Notre Dame and Navy and East Rutherford right across the
03:35river here through the tunnel from Manhattan.
03:38You go down the hill and there you are at the Snoopy for this one, Notre Dame and Navy.
03:44Navy's unbeaten and they're getting 13 and a hook.
03:48Some places, two tights.
03:50Can the Irish handle Navy tomorrow or will Navy shock the world?
03:56Well, you know, and after we saw Vandy beat Alabama and Vandy's kind of run this same
04:01type of, not just a triple option or a wing team, they put the spread passing attack with
04:06it and Navy's doing it about as good as anybody in the academies.
04:09And it gives you a fist.
04:11Just go back and look at some of their films as I did this week.
04:13But Notre Dame's got more talent than anybody they've played at Navy.
04:17I don't think Navy's played all G5 teams so far.
04:20Go look at that Memphis game and see how they handle Memphis.
04:23They're an incredible team.
04:24They've got a system that uses smart, I call it smart football.
04:27They're usually at an academy or a Vanderbilt and they play a system where you can't go
04:31out there and physically handle them.
04:32You got to find a way mentally to go in the right direction because everything is misdirection.
04:37And let me say this about Navy.
04:39They have a quarterback and a running back, Horvath in Texas.
04:41These guys are unbelievable.
04:43You know why?
04:43They went to Mount Lebanon High School together.
04:46That's a lot of great people come out of Mount Lebanon High School.
04:49Including me!
04:50That's where I went to high school.
04:51Oh, Scotty.
04:52Oh, you've been setting me up.
04:57They're one year old.
04:58They're the best people on the team.
04:59And they've been best friends since they were like first grade.
05:02And they both went to Mount Lebanon.
05:04When I was there, they won the WIPEO four straight years.
05:08They won the state championship four straight years.
05:10And I always was like, they played on AstroTurf in Mount Lebanon.
05:15And I was like, man, this school, that high school was enormous that I went to.
05:19It really was.
05:20Yes, it was.
05:21Illinois getting over three tighties, 21 and a hook at Alton.
05:26I love this quarterback for Illinois.
05:29I think Beal must have done a great job.
05:31Can they hang with the Ducks and Eugene?
05:33I've got them.
05:34I've got them beating the numbers.
05:37Oregon's not going to lose to Illinois at Alton Stadium.
05:40They're not going to lose the game.
05:41But Illinois is a physically tough team.
05:43They represent, that coach kind of builds on that, their toughness.
05:47But they're not quite good enough to beat this team in Oregon.
05:50But I've got them definitely taking the numbers and taking the points.
05:55Yeah, me too.
05:57Missouri's at College Station at Kyle Field under the lights.
06:01Is Cook not playing for Missouri in that game?
06:04Am I seeing things?
06:05Yeah, Cook and Noel both are doubtful.
06:08In college terms, that usually means they ain't playing.
06:11They just want to try to create just a little bit of a doubt.
06:14But I don't think they're both going to play.
06:16And if they can't play, I give Alabama the game and the points on that one.
06:23Yeah, I was tripping.
06:23That's the game at Tuscaloosa that Missouri's playing.
06:27LSU's got A&M at Kyle Field under the lights.
06:32I'm sorry.
06:32So who do you like in that one?
06:34Well, this one, you got the two teams.
06:36These two teams sit on top of the SEC with one loss by themselves.
06:39And the winner of this game will be the sole leader in the SEC.
06:43Who would have thought that?
06:44But they both have great offense, great defense.
06:47The running games are going to negate each other.
06:49And it's going to come back to the quarterbacks.
06:51And I've got to go over, Connor.
06:52You've got to go with Nussmeier when it comes down to who can throw it.
06:55Because they're both going to be able to stop that run pretty good.
06:58Yeah, everybody I've been seeing is on LSU in this game,
07:01including heavy batters.
07:03All the sharps are on them because of Nussmeier.
07:06And they don't like that quarterback for A&M.
07:10They just don't like their Kimmy.
07:12Texas is at Vandy.
07:14How do you think the Longhorns respond after getting their ass beat by Georgia?
07:19Well, this is kind of like the other game with Navy and Notre Dame.
07:22It's athleticism versus scheme.
07:24And Texas, I guarantee it, they will use that athleticism.
07:28And they'll keep Vandy from doing what they did against, what,
07:31Virginia Tech and Alabama.
07:33Again, they've got too much.
07:34When you've got that much talent, you can make mistakes in time and still recover.
07:38But they'll get so much penetration.
07:40They'll get Vandy in the backfield.
07:42So Alabama is going to recover.
07:44And I'll be honest with you.
07:44I think Alabama is going to cover the score, too.
07:47How about these two at night?
07:487 o'clock, Miami hosting Florida State.
07:51They hate each other's guts.
07:53Miami's laying 21.
07:55You know I'm a huge Canes fan.
07:56Will they handle them?
07:58Yeah, I think they will.
07:59I mean, I'm an FSU fan because of my dad that's over the years there.
08:0221 points, I've never seen.
08:04And it's played down in Miami.
08:06Not Coral Gables, not the Orange Bowl like we used to love.
08:08But it's down there at their home field.
08:10But FSU has no quarterback.
08:12And when you have no quarterback, you have no answers.
08:15They threw three picks for scores in the last three interceptions on three straight plays
08:19last week.
08:20And they have no quarterback.
08:21And they have nowhere to go.
08:22And Miami's got to make sure recruits in Florida know who's the best team.
08:26Yeah, it killed me when they tore the Orange Bowl down.
08:30What a disaster that was.
08:32Let's talk about Penn State at MADTOWN at Camp Randall.
08:37They're laying six and a half.
08:38Fickles, Badgers have won three in a row.
08:40And they've raked everybody.
08:42I got 10 seconds.
08:43What do you like in that game?
08:45Stay with Penn State.
08:46Wisconsin's now standing team.
08:47Stay with Penn State on that.
08:49All right, coach.
08:49I love you.
08:50Have a great weekend.
