00:00Just this October 11, the International Day of the Girl Child was held.
00:05It is an important day that protects the rights of girls.
00:09This year's theme is Girls' Vision for the Future.
00:13And this year, there are activities prepared by the Humanitarian Development Organization,
00:17Plan International Pilipinas for the whole month of October.
00:22To discuss their program, we will be joined by Rennie Martin,
00:27the Safeguarding and Fisheye Specialist of Plan International Pilipinas,
00:31and Ariel Frago, their Portfolio Manager for Inclusive Quality Education and Youth Economic Empowerment.
00:38Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Pilipinas.
00:41Good morning, Rennie and Ariel. Thank you for joining us today.
00:45Please introduce to us the organization, Plan International Pilipinas.
00:50What is the main purpose of this organization?
00:53Plan International Pilipinas is a development and humanitarian organization.
00:58Since 1961, we have been promoting the rights of girls, especially girls,
01:05because we know that there are inequalities and we are really promoting their rights for equality.
01:12They will have access to protection, health, and even higher quality of life.
01:23This October 11, the month of celebration of IDG, or International Day of the Girl, has started.
01:31Why is it important that this is held? And how is this promoted by your organization, Ariel?
01:39IDG is a yearly event.
01:42We give this to girls, especially to girls, to amplify their voices.
01:49To say that we are here, the children, and you need to hear us.
01:55This is also the time that Plan International presents our annual research, the State of the World Girls' Report.
02:04This year, it focuses on women and girls in conflict and crisis.
02:13Okay, talking about the State of the World Girls' Report,
02:16what are the salient needs of women, especially girls?
02:28We interviewed 10,000 girls all around the world.
02:33In the Philippines, we interviewed more than 1,000 in the south of the Philippines.
02:40The first thing that came out was that they are missing out on formal education.
02:46They said that their education is being cut off.
02:49Second, their mental health and psychosocial health.
02:53It has a big effect, especially on girls, the trauma, etc.
02:57Because of the crisis, if there is a conflict.
03:00And third, they want to tell the whole world to join us in their planning.
03:07Listen to us because we are here and we want to be a part of the design of your program.
03:14It's not a coincidence that there are conflict areas.
03:18Of course, there are women, children, and girls in conflict and crisis networks.
03:26You launched this in Maguindanao, Visayas, and also in Tacloban.
03:31Can you tell us more about this?
03:34This network was created to strengthen the campaign and involve the children.
03:43There are also men, of course.
03:45But of course, the network helps to promote the rights of the children.
03:52So, one cannot afford it.
03:54So, it's good that the children in the different areas where the planning takes place,
03:58can be formed to have a stronger voice.
04:03Their voices can be amplified and reach the people.
04:06What are the issues they are facing in conflict and crisis?
04:11Okay. You also mentioned the participation of men and boys.
04:16How can they help in this advocacy?
04:20Actually, we are following what we call the Feminist Leadership Principle.
04:26Working with men, boys, and young men.
04:31We can see the positive masculinity.
04:34It's very important that they are together.
04:37Let's admit that there are more perpetrators of violence than men.
04:42At an early age, they can be educated that women are human rights.
04:47Women's rights are human rights and we need to include them in this program.
04:55You mentioned that it's good that you mentioned the Feminist Leadership Principle.
04:59Because we have a notion when you say Feminist Leadership Principle.
05:02It should be ahead or higher.
05:07The same goes for the adults.
05:10How can the youth benefit from the programs you are hosting?
05:17This month of October, like the Youth Camp in Laguna.
05:21The Youth Camp in Laguna that will take place this October 25-27.
05:26There are 200 youth advocates who will be trained on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
05:35The theme of our IDG this year is conflict and crisis.
05:41Because they are the most affected when there is conflict and crisis.
05:45They are also at the center.
05:47We are also working with partner organizations to help us.
05:52To help the youth to be equipped.
05:56To have enough knowledge on how to do disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
06:02And to increase their resilience.
06:05If I just mention, the youth are really affected.
06:09The women, the conflict areas.
06:12I mean, can we imagine the difficult access in the background.
06:17Sanitation, hygiene.
06:19These programs are good to partner with.
06:23Just like what was mentioned earlier.
06:25Education is important because it will be cut off.
06:28If there is a crisis in the area, especially their mental health, it will be affected.
06:33Alright, please do invite our guests, our viewers rather, to support your advocacy.
06:40And to participate in your activities this month of October.
06:46So, we are inviting, even if you are not part of our activities,
06:51but we are really voicing out the rights of the youth, especially the women.
06:57We hope that you will also be a part of it.
06:59So that we can help to have equal rights for women and boys.
07:05And for men and women.
07:08We have activities and this will happen.
07:12Maybe, you can also go to the Plan International website to see more.
07:19Alright, how about you Sir Ariel? Do you have any message?
07:23The fight of women, especially girls, is the fight of the whole country.
07:29So, we need to strengthen their voices.
07:33Women's right is a human right.
07:36So, it is very important that we help each other.
07:40Thank you very much.
07:42Thank you once again for Rennie and Aria for sharing initiatives with us
07:47this International Day of the Girls.
07:50We hope that these programs will serve as an inspiration for equal rights for girls.
07:57Thank you very much.
