00:00Lebanon just keeps on getting more dangerous. The latest incident took place at 4.30 a.m.
00:07on Sunday. The U.N. said that Israeli tanks destroyed the gates of a base of its peacekeeping
00:13force in southern Lebanon, forcing their way in. The U.N. force, which is known as UNIFIL,
00:19says that the IDF is putting its peacekeepers in danger. The Israeli soldiers eventually
00:23left the base, but the peacekeepers said that the IDF then fired munitions some 100
00:30meters north, and that the smoke emitted left 15 peacekeepers with injuries, including skin
00:36irritation and stomach problems. Well, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called
00:40on the U.N. to evacuate blue helmets from combat areas in Lebanon. He's released a video
00:46in which he addresses the U.N. Secretary General personally, and he claims that the peacekeepers
00:51are providing Hezbollah with human shields. Hezbollah denies Israel's accusation, and
00:56the U.N. says that the IDF is thwarting its work. This latest incident is one of many.
01:03Peacekeepers have been wounded in recent days. One even underwent surgery to remove a bullet.
01:08We've also seen attacks on a watchtower and on surveillance gear. A UNIFIL spokesperson
01:13said that all of these attacks really hamper the peacekeepers' ability to monitor violations
01:18of international law. The U.N.'s calling on Israel to ensure the safety and security
01:24of its personnel, and says that breaching a U.N. position is yet another violation of
01:29international law. World leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden, have called on Israel
01:35to ensure the safety of U.N. peacekeepers.
