00:00So, Newcastle United women have defeated Sunderland in the time where Derby here at the Stadium
00:06of Life, two goals from Bethlehemston was enough to secure Becky Langley's side all
00:10three points. As you can expect it was a hard-fought Derby game, obviously it was a big game for
00:16Newcastle United, a big game for Sunderland as well, but a big game for Newcastle United.
00:20First season in the Championship and one that they really hope that they can stamp their
00:23authority on and they've got big ambitions, we all know that, we've seen back-to-back
00:28promotions, can they do three in a row, they're targeting that. Today was a real big game
00:32for them to see if they can, you know, Sunderland are a very good team, have been historically
00:37and a very strong team. And yeah, Newcastle played very well, I think Sunderland came
00:41out early on and dominated, as you would assume the home side would, but after about five
00:46or ten minutes Newcastle really grew in the game and deservedly took the lead through
00:48Bethlehemston, it was a fantastic strike from her, cut in on her right foot and smashed
00:52her past the goalkeeper, to give the goalkeeper absolutely no chance with that. And then at
00:57half-time, 1-0, came out for the second half and literally minutes in there, Bethlehemston's
01:01corner caused all kinds of havoc and went straight in. We believe it seemed to hit off
01:06the post, if anything, it went straight in, it was a limited goal, it was a fantastic
01:09goal. And that really settled the nerves, I think, Newcastle would have come out the
01:13second half hoping to get an early goal and that's exactly what they did. And yeah, as
01:16I said, it just really settled the nerves for Becky Langley's side and one that really
01:20helped them secure the win, really. They were roared on by 2,000 Newcastle United fans in
01:26the corner. It was a brilliant atmosphere, some of the fans give them as loud as they
01:30have, Newcastle United give as loud as they've got. And yeah, despite some late nervous tension
01:35a little bit, with a late strike, it was about the 80th minute, I think, to pull something
01:43back level. Langley's side were able to hold on and yeah, deserved three points from Newcastle,
01:47I think, but in a game that they'll be really happy with. And as I said, it was conceded
01:51the goal by Durham last week in another local derby, that was the last one in the game,
01:54they'll be really happy with getting the three points today and one that will set them
01:57up well for the rest of the season. They're just within three points at the top of the
02:00table, so it's been a real positive start. And they're in a mini-group at the top eight,
02:06seven or eight of the Championship table, which they'll all be fighting for promotion.
02:10So yeah, brilliant result for Becky Langley's side here at Stadium Allianz and one that
02:14many Newcastle United fans will be happy with. Obviously, it's always good to get a win over
02:17Sunderland and Newcastle United have done that today. So yeah, Newcastle United win
02:20two, Sunderland one.
