Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham in the Premier League.

00:00So, Newcastle United suffered their second home defeat of the season with a 2-0 loss
00:04against West Ham. No real complaints about the end result, Newcastle were just outclassed
00:09in every department, which is really disappointing. After the high of going into that international
00:14break with three wins against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Chelsea, you think, is this their
00:18chance to really make a statement? It could have gone up to six tonight with a win, that
00:22would have really put them in the mix for European place. But unfortunately, they were
00:25done by two goals, either side at half-time by West Ham. As I said, I can't really have
00:31any complaints about the end result. They started okay, the first five minutes they
00:35did alright. Alexander Izzac had a goal, disallowed for offside, it was offside, just marginally
00:40offside, it was a brilliant little finish from him. You think at that point, will that
00:43give them the confidence to press on? The crowd was up for it at that point, but they
00:48never really managed to do that. Just a couple of minutes later, West Ham opened the scoring
00:51for Sucek. He was unmarked in the box from a corner, it was a simple corner delivery,
00:57Sucek got his head on it, into the far corner, it seemed to be Lloyd Kelly's man, he lost
01:02him. Nigaz's head dropped at that point, really. For the next five or so minutes, West Ham
01:07were very much on top, enjoyed a lot of the ball, and that was their best period of the
01:10game, I think that little bit for West Ham. Nigaz have built their way back into the half,
01:15they ended it really strongly. Lots of the ball, but again, no real... Lukasz Fabianski
01:19wasn't really tested too much on that West Ham ball, I think that would be the disappointing
01:22thing, that he wasn't tested too much. And Lukasz scored three against Nottingham Forest,
01:27scored against Arsenal, scored a couple against Chelsea, they never really looked like scoring,
01:30and I bar that really early Isak Chance. At the end of the half, strongly as I said, but
01:36they didn't test the keeper, and you go into the half time behind, and you think, can they
01:40come out in the second half with a bit of inparticipation? It's a new start, a fresh
01:44start, the crowd was again lifted, Bobby Barnes came on, that was a slight tweak, Joe Willock
01:48came off, and unfortunately that change didn't work, there was nothing in it, and yeah, before
01:54you know it, they're 2-0 down, Wan-Bissaka, he scored three Premier League goals, two of
01:59them were against Newcastle United, and that seems to be the story, that whatever could
02:03have gone wrong for Newcastle did, but it was their own fault, they can't really have
02:05too many complaints. There wasn't many in the black and white shirt that really came
02:08out of that game with any credit really, I think a lot of them had an off day, and when
02:12all of them have an off day, it's never a good thing. West Ham were deserved winners,
02:15they were very compact, Julio Lopetegui came out of the game under a lot of pressure, you
02:20think, are the players fighting for it? They were certainly fighting for it today, they
02:23did almost everything he asked of them, they were really good, you can't really argue too
02:26much about that, Newcastle still should have had enough, but that's the frustrating thing
02:30I think, even if they weren't at the game, they still had chances, they just couldn't
02:33put the ball in the net, as I said, they didn't test Fabianski enough, they couldn't put the
02:38ball in the net, and ultimately they ended up getting no points, no complaints, as I
02:42said, I don't want to make it sound like Newcastle hammered West Ham, because they
02:46didn't really, they didn't, they just, they had a lot of the play, the end of the game,
02:512-0, you know, defeat, nothing much to say, Callum Wilson came on for his first appearance
02:57of the season, it was good to see him, but he barely had a touch, other than a brief
03:00penalty appeal just over my shoulder there, other than that, there wasn't really much
03:03that he got involved in, and yeah, it was a very, very disappointing night for Newcastle,
03:08and back to the draw board, they've got a match against Crystal Palace on Saturday,
03:11now that looks like a really big match, they don't have a brilliant regular to sell their
03:14spot, they're going to have to go there and get a result, and then they host Liverpool
03:17here in just over a week's time, so two big games, and we all know in the Christmas period,
03:21games come thick and fast, and they don't have much time to sort of lick their, you
03:26know, lull on this, and they think maybe that's a good, maybe they'll just get back and they'll
03:31have to show a reaction on Saturday, but judging on that, they're going to have to show something
03:34different, because they just looked out of ideas, it didn't look like an Eddie Howes
03:37Newcastle performance, I think that's the worrying thing, it didn't look like Eddie
03:40Howes Newcastle, although it has looked a lot like what we've seen of Eddie Howes Newcastle
03:44this year, there's been three or four games like that, which is a worry that it's starting to
03:49creep in to their game, especially after what we saw before, so it's hard to judge this one,
03:52because as I said, if we came into the game, I said it was pretend I was a banana skin,
03:56it turns out to be like that, they came into the game full of confidence, and there's nothing to
04:00say they won't do that again next week, you know, they won't flip the script like they have done a
04:02couple of times already this season, and get a result at Crystal Palace, but right now,
04:06you know, it's a bit flat, they're going to need something there, they can't do it, but how many
04:11times are they going to have to have this performance before the questions start getting
04:14asked from the team, the manager, whoever, they can't keep doing this performance, and you know,
04:17West Ham just sort of, one of many performances they've put in like this this year, but ultimately
04:212-0 defeat, they've got five days to react on that before they've closed Crystal Palace,
04:25and it'll be interesting to see what Eddie Howes says at full time, and how his team react between
04:29now and Saturday's game, but yeah, Newcastle United, second defeat at all of the season,
04:33against, you know, 2-0 defeat against West Ham, they missed a chance to go sixth in the Premier
04:38League, and now that Premier League again is getting condensed, and they really need to get
04:41themselves into that top sort of section before the league starts to spread out again, starts
04:45concentrating, but right now, Newcastle United sat in 10th place after being beat 2-0 by West Ham.
