00:00Previously, this week, the week from hell, the toughest week on the block, it was the
00:09domain challenge, the hallway week, the rumpus week, the study week, resulted in the toughest
00:17judging for the rumpus room in office.
00:20This is functionally useless.
00:24And while two houses rose to the challenge, it's a tie between one and three.
00:30Carly and Brad fell from grace.
00:32I hate this place.
00:34I got absolutely annihilated.
00:36I don't want to be here.
00:38You're either with me or you're not with me.
00:40What do you mean?
00:42You know exactly what I mean.
00:48Tonight on the block, it's the final week inside.
00:52Tonight on the block.
00:54On the block.
00:55Lots to do, so little time.
00:57And the final chance to create the house with the winning edge at auction.
01:01We have grand plans.
01:03I hope that the judges will walk in and be like, we love it.
01:06But for the sisters.
01:07Hope you have some good news for me.
01:09Will ambitious plans.
01:10I don't.
01:11End in tears.
01:13It's just all over the shop.
01:15Cover week.
01:16Duel dinner parties.
01:17Wowee.
01:18To the bottom three.
01:22We'll see all stars arrive.
01:24How good.
01:25Yeah, man.
01:26Our tensions between teams continue.
01:28It's been tough.
01:29A few of the teams don't like them.
01:30Yeah, it's been pretty tricky.
01:32They're just young and I just don't really have anything in common with them.
01:35I can't have too many friends, okay?
01:37And with just a month to go.
01:39Where are you guys off to?
01:41Home.
01:42We'll go home.
01:43We'll go home.
01:44Will one team throw it all away?
01:46I guess there's only so much someone can take.
01:48I don't know where that limit really is.
01:50I can't do this without you.
01:52Just come with me.
02:09After completing two rooms last week,
02:11this morning houses one and three
02:13are bathing in the afterglow of last night's joint win.
02:17There he is.
02:19Mate.
02:20I'm here, mate.
02:21I'm here.
02:22I thought I'd hand deliver a freshly made McCafe coffee.
02:25Thank you, mate.
02:26I need one this morning.
02:27To celebrate.
02:28I know.
02:29And got a tent.
02:30I know, mate.
02:31We loved the feedback last week.
02:32Thoroughly enjoyed doing this room
02:33and I think the judges could see that.
02:35This is so smart.
02:36Entertainment.
02:38Yeah.
02:39This is what you call a leg of your own.
02:41To get that elusive win and a tent on the board
02:43in a room we really wanted to do
02:47Felt unreal.
02:49Good morning.
02:51How are you both?
02:52Good.
02:53Very good now that I'm $15,000 richer.
02:57We're very happy to win and get a tent.
03:01That was pretty cool.
03:03Marty Fox loved the idea of the external staircase
03:06and the guest retreat.
03:08This is a massive selling feature.
03:10Changing that window to a door, it's genius.
03:13It's a game changer.
03:16I guess that was the first time
03:17that they would have heard of that
03:18so I think that was kind of exciting for them.
03:20Yoo-hoo!
03:21This is a winner's.
03:23Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
03:25Knowing that you've won, it just makes you feel like,
03:28okay, I'm on the right track,
03:29the judges like what I'm doing, they see my vision.
03:32So yeah, it kind of gave us a pep in our step.
03:34Oh, hey, winner.
03:35Hey, winner.
03:36Winner, winner, winner.
03:37At the other end of the spectrum, a house five
03:40who placed last after failing to complete the office
03:44never impressed the judges with their rumpus room.
03:50I feel deflated.
03:52I woke up today really emotional because of the judging.
03:57I'm genuinely standing in a displacement.
03:59It's so basic.
04:03I think we deserved what we got, having not finished a space.
04:07And now that I've woken up,
04:09I'm feeling all those judges' comments.
04:14Hello.
04:16You all right?
04:17Mm.
04:18What's wrong?
04:21I don't know.
04:22It's a tough start to the week
04:24when that's the feedback that people are getting.
04:30Hey, come on.
04:37Down the road in house four,
04:42Kylie's slipping in after placing second last.
04:47Monday morning, Kylie, what's your vibe?
04:49Monday morning is I don't really want to be here.
04:54The feedback was brutal.
04:57Why am I sitting 30 centimetres off a glass balustrade
05:01looking over the living area?
05:03Savage.
05:04This is...
05:05Weird.
05:06I'm saying ridiculous.
05:08What was it?
05:09Worst room ever.
05:11Yeah.
05:1210 out of 10 for creating the most uncomfortable room
05:15we've seen this season.
05:16Ouch.
05:17That's bad.
05:18Well, that's hard to hear.
05:20Body odour-wise.
05:26And then there's house two,
05:28who came third but felt they should have been first.
05:32I'm going to get a coffee. You want one?
05:34Yeah, just order me one.
05:36Order you one? OK.
05:37I'll just get out of bed.
05:41We were raging.
05:42I think the most frustrating part is that we stuck to the brief.
05:45We provided an office and an office room
05:47and I don't think they really wanted an office.
05:50It feels caged in.
05:53This ceiling is so close here,
05:55it will actually boom and go down,
05:57so your conversation will be heard at the lounge room.
06:02I don't know.
06:03I'm looking forward to seeing the other rooms, though.
06:05I'm keen to see what a 10 looks like.
06:11The first house being inspected is house one,
06:14who secured the win, and a 10,
06:17thanks to the guest retreat concept,
06:19with a rubbish room featuring a study desk
06:22and a private entrance with seating areas.
06:24You could separately house people in here in privacy.
06:29The judges think, from a buyer's perspective...
06:31This is a massive selling feature.
06:33Nice.
06:36I just want to dance
06:37I don't want to die
06:38No more living in a battle
06:42Is this their rumpus room?
06:44This should be, yeah, like a rumpus room.
06:46Yeah.
06:47I like this lounge.
06:48It's nice.
06:49They laid it out really well.
06:50It's a good desk.
06:51Perfect desk for that space.
06:53Yeah.
06:54Yeah.
06:55I'm the type of person that's happy to admit
06:57if somebody's got a better room than we do
06:59or they've got a more functional room or a better-looking room,
07:02and there's been times over the last 10 weeks
07:04but there are times, and this week being one of them,
07:07where it's like, how did you place the winner on them?
07:13Just checking it's real.
07:15Oh, this is nice.
07:19I like it.
07:20Wait, they got a 10.
07:22Yeah.
07:23No, it's not a 10 to me.
07:25Yeah, I think that was a bit of a far-fetched 10.
07:30Jeez, this is nice.
07:32That's perfect.
07:34Oh.
07:35That's a 10 from Marty.
07:54For me, I'm better off not saying anything to anyone
07:56because I'm either going to say something that I completely regret
07:59or you say it in the moment and then you look back
08:01and you're like, wow, that was really out of line.
08:05Yeah, right.
08:08Is this what they expected?
08:18The part that secured the win was the private entrance idea.
08:22They have opened up a massive amount of possibilities
08:26by changing that window to a door.
08:28It's genius.
08:32So wait, they've got another sitting area.
08:35This is a bedroom.
08:37So the entry, I'm going to assume, is through there.
08:41For the stairs?
08:42Through there.
08:43That's actually really smart what they've done there.
08:45So you've got stairs, you've got your own bathroom,
08:47own sitting area, own bedroom, own living.
08:49And they can shut that off.
08:51This could literally be like a separate Airbnb.
08:53Another Airbnb.
08:54Yeah, that's cool.
08:55Well done.
09:01So that's where the stairs are going.
09:07That annoys me.
09:14Your face says it all.
09:16I said nothing.
09:17Oh, good.
09:19We tried to get a door to our upstairs and we were told no.
09:23Oh, really?
09:24And the fact that they got it and they come in in, like, what, week five?
09:27We were trying to get external stairs so that way you could access
09:31the mezzanine and have its own self-contained bedroom.
09:35But we would have been adding an entire door,
09:37which means it would have been fully re-engineered.
09:39Yep.
09:40And there were decisions that we had to have locked in
09:42in the first, what, four weeks?
09:44Yeah, before the girls even got here.
09:46So it's funny that they can change decisions
09:48when ours were all locked and loaded.
09:49But it makes it a lot easier for them to see
09:52where something like that might go in.
09:55And then they have the freedom to change it at this point.
09:59We had that all approved as well, but just f***ing funds.
10:03Well, that's the main reason we didn't.
10:05Yeah.
10:06It's money. How do you get money to do that?
10:07Well, they're getting tans.
10:09And they said their style's vanilla every other room.
10:12It looks exactly the same as all the others.
10:14Like, I understand they're coming late,
10:16so I guess they do need some kind of say.
10:18Morning.
10:19Morning, guys.
10:20Hello, hello.
10:21I'm not going near the girls.
10:22So, yeah, it's hard.
10:26MUSIC
10:28Sharing the win was House 3 with their rumpus room
10:30adjoining a games room.
10:33They had me at Street Fighter 2.
10:35MUSIC
10:38The fact you've got Street Fighter, you've got Pac-Man,
10:40you've got Phillip Island on the walls.
10:42I reckon people would buy this for their family
10:44and say, bring all your friends.
10:46Your fellow winners, the girls, Maddie and Charlotte at House 1.
10:49What did you think of their space?
10:51I'll put it this way, it wasn't as good as ours.
10:53MUSIC
10:56Oh, wow.
10:58Oh, OK.
11:00Well, it's not what I expected.
11:04I don't know how that works.
11:05They're plastic chairs.
11:08You just want to play it, don't you?
11:10MUSIC
11:13Ah!
11:14Functionality, like, things like that, kind of...
11:17You're going to get a pole through the wall.
11:19Yeah, that's going to be definitely a pole through the wall.
11:21But, yeah, look, overall... Good job, boys.
11:23..I think it was good.
11:25Like, all this graphic on the walls.
11:27And ours was polarising.
11:29I never know what the judges are going to say.
11:32It makes no sense. It makes no sense.
11:34I'm not commenting cos I just don't know what to say.
11:37You can make a games room really nice in a multimillion-dollar home.
11:41You could do a beautiful pool table and a bar and whatnot,
11:45but that wasn't that.
11:47In third place was House 2's
11:49Mediterranean take on a rumpus room and office.
11:52This will shoot better than House 1.
11:55Beyond.
11:56But it won't inspect better than House 1,
11:59and it comes down to the inspection.
12:01MUSIC
12:11Hmm.
12:13OK, that's nice.
12:15Oh, that's a lounge.
12:18Oh, mate, green's in.
12:19How good is that?
12:21Mate.
12:22Right?
12:23Classic Courtney. She's created a beautiful room.
12:25Yeah. No, this is cute.
12:27I'm a fan. I don't really have anything negative to say about this.
12:30We loved it. It was beautiful.
12:38Why's everyone got the same star?
12:40They get dissed up with their voting.
12:42This is way better than the two rooms that we've seen so far.
12:46This is worth a bloody 10.
12:48I feel like a lot of their rooms have been worth a 10.
12:52I feel like we're creating really nice spaces
12:55and everyone's coming into our room saying,
12:57you know, how aren't you guys winning more?
12:59It just seems odd, to be honest.
13:01I just don't know how we've gotten this far
13:03without what we've had, two wins.
13:06Christian and Mimi have actually had the most wins,
13:09followed by House 1 after last night,
13:11who are now equal to House 2 and House 4.
13:14And at the bottom of the ladder is House 3.
13:17So two wins so far is actually not a bad result,
13:21considering the judges felt their office needed a rethink.
13:25Love walking to a possible therapy session.
13:30I've been living with Rikki for a little while now.
13:32Mm-hm.
13:33Obviously getting to know him a little bit more.
13:35Mm-hm.
13:36Living with him for the past few months.
13:38Mm-hm.
13:39And, um...
13:41Mm-hm.
13:42He just leaves at random times.
13:44I don't know when he's coming home.
13:47I think it's great for a house,
13:49but a holiday house, I don't think it's necessary.
13:51Maybe if you were, like, a boss, like...
13:54But then I understand you'd want glass or something there,
13:57cos it's not like you're going to work or do a phone call here
13:59when the kids are running around.
14:02House 5 only completed one space on the ground floor,
14:05the Rumpus Room,
14:06which was intended as a kind of pool house,
14:09but fell short, according to the judges.
14:11If you've got a plunge pool there
14:14and you want to come in and watch TV and play games,
14:17don't you want to have surfaces
14:19that kids can be in their bathers and have a good time?
14:22Isn't that what they're trying to sell?
14:26All right.
14:27Ooh!
14:29Is that a ship?
14:30That's fancy, isn't it?
14:33This is very nice.
14:35I love it.
14:37Yeah, I understand what they're saying.
14:39It's almost, like, too perfect.
14:43Out the rooms everyone is dying to see are in House 4,
14:46who crashed and burned at judging
14:48thanks to their confusing office and living space.
14:52I don't understand why there is a couch
14:55up against a glass balustrade.
14:59Wait, they got slammed for this sitting up here?
15:03Why?
15:04I don't know.
15:07I like it.
15:08I love it.
15:10It's cute.
15:11Yeah, right.
15:12Oh, OK.
15:13I always agree with the judges' feedback.
15:15The judges' feedback is their personal opinion
15:18based on their expertise,
15:20so I'd never argue with the judges.
15:24Sometimes they're harsh, but that's because they're judges.
15:29Hear ye, hear ye!
15:31That is odd.
15:32That is odd.
15:33Why would you sit there watching everyone?
15:35That's kind of creepy.
15:36Kylie and Brad's house.
15:38The judges didn't love it.
15:40We didn't love it.
15:41I feel like the space didn't function as well as it could have.
15:46It looks like a handbag.
15:47It looks like a dress or a handbag.
15:52Adjoining the office is the Rumpus Room,
15:54which didn't impress the judges either.
15:57Oh, wow, I don't get this.
15:59From a couple that understood scale, this is blowing my mind.
16:04I feel like they could have done, like, a big dressing table there.
16:08That's a bit random.
16:10And I don't really like that track lighting.
16:12It's a bit random.
16:13Shocking.
16:15Hmm.
16:16Interesting.
16:19Coming up...
16:20It's what I was thinking.
16:21It's the last week inside the houses.
16:23It's bittersweet knowing that we're finishing the inside.
16:26I don't know, I feel like I'm going to cry.
16:29And guards are down.
16:31We all had the exact same opinions on everything, basically.
16:34That the winners were undeserving.
16:35Yeah, that was beer.
16:38But is the island about to lose another team?
16:41Are you sure you wouldn't walk away from this with four weeks to go?
16:44I don't know.
16:45I'm like, what are we doing?
16:46I know you want to leave.
16:48I don't know.
16:58By this coming Sunday, the interiors of the houses will be complete,
17:02as all that's left to do are two final rooms.
17:05So we jumped on the main Minnow Hub.
17:07It was the laundry and remaining bedroom week.
17:11It's time for your laundry week.
17:14The laundries are located behind the kitchens in houses one to four.
17:19And house fives is in the ground floor bedroom zone.
17:23And for houses one to four,
17:25the guest bedrooms are the final piece of the mezzanine puzzle.
17:29So this week will determine
17:31whether the top level is a masterpiece or a mistake.
17:36And in house one, the sisters are feeling the pressure
17:39to complete their highly anticipated guest retreat.
17:42It's not like a standard bunk bed that you just put a bunk bed in.
17:45It's like an elevated bunk bed.
17:47It was really important for us to have a space
17:49that obviously had a bathroom,
17:51a chill area,
17:53a bar with, like, you know, your sink,
17:56a microwave, fridge, coffee machine, all those things,
17:59and was able to sleep four people.
18:02So we had a lot of things to put into a relatively small space.
18:06Completed so far are the sitting area
18:08at the top of the external staircase,
18:10the rumpus room and the ensuite.
18:13What's left to do is the bedroom.
18:16And in order to fit everything they want in,
18:18the girls are planning to put two beds on one wall,
18:21one elevated 2.4 metres above a wardrobe.
18:25On the other wall will be a kitchenette,
18:27enabling the guest retreat to be fully self-contained.
18:32All they need is the sign-off from foreman Dan
18:35that the bunk bed is compliant.
18:37Morning. How are we?
18:38Good morning. How are you, Dan?
18:39Good, good.
18:40Hope you have some good news for me.
18:42I don't.
18:43Oh, really?
18:44Yeah, actually.
18:45Your bunk bed, the height of it is the main issue.
18:47OK.
18:48So a normal bunk's, like, 1.6.
18:50It's already at 2.4 plus a mattress, it's 2.7.
18:53Something that tall, it actually needs a proper staircase to it.
18:57OK.
18:58Actual balustrading, which is not going to happen.
19:00So essentially you're not going to get your design
19:02underneath that you want with the wardrobes.
19:06Drawing board.
19:08Who knows where we'll actually end up?
19:11We have grand plans.
19:13But not everyone loves our grand plans.
19:18In house two this week,
19:19Cook and Grant will produce a second main bedroom
19:22to go with the oversized ensuite they built a few weeks ago.
19:27All right, second main.
19:28I feel like that will create enough of a main suite
19:32with a large bathroom.
19:33And still have the landing area outside
19:35that can be used as a rumpus room slash addition to the bedroom.
19:39So what I was thinking, when we walk in, bed will be here.
19:44Along this back wall here, we'll do maybe, like, a linen...
19:47They've actually got a textured linen fabric that they can use.
19:50The linen wallpaper will act as a bedhead
19:53paired with a green feature wall.
19:55They'll only be able to fit a queen bed into the space
19:57because they need to squeeze a wardrobe into the room.
20:00Something the judges picked up on during the rumpus room reveal.
20:04The judges all wondered if you were to put some joinery in this space
20:08for wardrobe storage,
20:09you could still make this area into a private second main bedroom suite.
20:14I actually want a king bed.
20:16Bingo.
20:17I don't want to overdo it.
20:18Feature wall's going to, I think, add a lot.
20:20Yeah, look, every time you've kept it, like, simple but elegant,
20:23I think that's where you guys are getting good points.
20:26Awesome. Thanks, guys.
20:27Love it. Thanks, Andy.
20:30This bed will bring some graffico through there,
20:34palm trees or something.
20:36Done.
20:37Which wall?
20:38See if we can do a couple.
20:40The same thing, too.
20:42The boys are maximising the number of beds
20:44by adding a pull-out trundle underneath the bunks.
20:47A smart move when it comes to marketing the house in the domain listing.
20:51You want to have, like, two big families
20:53being able to sleep comfortably in a holiday house.
20:55So, obviously, this is going to be our second bunk room.
20:59And obviously having a bunk room, too, next to that rumpus area, too,
21:02so the kids can obviously be playing in the rumpus room
21:04and then sleeping next door into the rumpus room sort of makes sense.
21:09Things are a bit different for Christian and Mimi in House 5,
21:12whose rooms are both downstairs.
21:15Their bedroom is at the front of the house
21:17after they swapped the position of the rumpus room and bedroom last week
21:21so that the rumpus was near the pool.
21:23And the judges did not approve of the floor plan tweak.
21:27If you are going to change the floor plan to your advantage,
21:30you have to blow us away.
21:32But they are running with their floor plan swap,
21:35putting this week's bedroom where the rumpus room was meant to be.
21:39So we've got kids in robes going here
21:41and then what we're going to do is we're building, like,
21:43a little nib wall for the bed to sit on.
21:45We've got lots of natural light coming in with the two windows.
21:49By building the nib wall,
21:51which will be finished in their signature Porta Timber,
21:53there will be no going back to the original floor plan
21:56of this being the rumpus room.
21:59But Christian and Mimi are sticking to their guns.
22:02Lots to do.
22:04So little time.
22:05We switched the rumpus and the guest bedroom
22:08and I hope that the judges will walk into our guest bedroom
22:11and be like, OK, I get it.
22:14We love it.
22:15But I don't know.
22:17I'm not going to get my hopes up.
22:21Next door in 4,
22:23not only are Kylie and Brad not taking the judges' advice
22:26for their plans in the laundry and bedroom,
22:28the Queenslanders currently have no plans at all.
22:32It would have been better off just presenting a painted room.
22:35It's ridiculous, man.
22:43Where are you guys off to?
22:45Home.
22:47Right, home.
22:50We'll go get Beaumont out of the way and now...
22:54Drop Kylie to the airport?
22:58Well, she wants to.
23:05Surely you wouldn't walk away from this with four weeks to go.
23:08Who says I'm walking away? I just want to see my family.
23:11Simple.
23:13We're really missing you guys
23:15and it's hard being away from you guys.
23:19I miss you too.
23:21Are you OK?
23:23Yeah.
23:25We didn't ring to make you sad, buddy.
23:28I'm sorry.
23:36Yeah, I guess we were sort of hopeful
23:39that we would see them earlier in the show than this.
23:43I don't know.
23:46I don't know.
23:47Especially after hearing feedback like that,
23:49it sort of makes you question...
23:50Why are you here?
23:51..what's more valuable.
23:52My family's more valuable, not this **** hole.
23:55**** me.
23:57So, it's even...
23:59Yeah, it's hard.
24:04I guess there's only so much someone can take
24:06and this isn't a situation where we've ever been in before,
24:10so I don't know where that limit really is.
24:18Don't.
24:26I know you want to leave
24:28and I know you deserve to.
24:32I can't do this without you.
24:34Just come with me.
24:37We've worked so hard for this.
24:39Do we not deserve a chance to win money?
24:43It's the whole reason we came here.
24:47It's the only thing that makes any of this worth any of it.
24:53All I wanted was my family.
24:55I just want to see the kids.
24:57And then when you're told all this negative feedback
24:59and I'm like, what are we doing?
25:10See you, mate.
25:11Thanks, mate.
25:12No worries.
25:27You too can get exclusive access to this week's rooms
25:30by heading to domains in the Know Hub.
25:33It's the go-to website where every Monday
25:35contestants can find my tips
25:37plus all they need to know for another big week of renovations.
26:02Is it hard seeing him that upset?
26:08Come on, let it out.
26:10Come on, let it out.
26:13Yeah, it was really hard seeing Brad upset.
26:20I guess the only thing that helped me change my mind.
26:29How's it going?
26:31You're over halfway.
26:33We are definitely over halfway.
26:34That's exciting.
26:35We're over it.
26:36No.
26:37You can strive to the end.
26:39You guys will be fine.
26:41I then had to make a decision
26:44of what we're going to be tiling the laundry with.
26:47Yeah, pick the black ones.
26:49We'll just do VJ paneling.
26:50I'll just paint it all black.
26:52All black.
26:53You want it all black?
26:54Like I care.
26:56Like, no one f***ing cares.
26:58I get in trouble no matter what I f***ing do anyway.
27:01You pick.
27:02I'm going to go send the car.
27:07Yeah.
27:14Grant, automatic sink mixer in the laundry?
27:17Yeah.
27:18Yeah, let's do one of them.
27:22We don't have a lot to do today.
27:23Yeah, it'll be short and sweet.
27:25Jesus, Brad, where'd you come from?
27:27Inside.
27:28No Kylie today?
27:30No.
27:31She's in the car.
27:32I can see her green hair.
27:33Is she?
27:34She's sleeping.
27:37Hi, Michelle.
27:39Hello, Michelle.
27:40The Pompeii.
27:41Yes, one of your favourites.
27:43I love it.
27:44It's so nice.
27:45So we've got this one in stock
27:46if you wanted to put this in the laundry floor.
27:48It's a beautiful tile anyway,
27:49so it will just tone in nicely with everything else.
27:51Courtney and Grant's laundry
27:53will fit into the space under the stairs.
27:55The Pompeii floor tiles
27:57will contrast with a bold stone bench and splashback,
28:00and they'll include a drying cabinet in walnut cabinetry.
28:05Also tile shopping for their laundry are Christian and Mimi.
28:09Is that the finish for the skirt?
28:11Tiles?
28:12Yep.
28:13All right, done.
28:14Beautiful.
28:15They will have the most spacious laundry,
28:17a long bench and overhead cabinets
28:19finished in ported timber.
28:21It'll also feature a steam cabinet and hanging space.
28:26We're selecting tiles.
28:27And whilst we're making these selections...
28:31Mm-mm, mm-mm.
28:33Mm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm.
28:37A frightening clown...
28:38Creepy dude.
28:39...enters.
28:40You hate clowns.
28:41I don't like, I don't like, I don't like, I don't like,
28:43I don't like, I don't like, I don't like.
28:45I don't like creepy clowns.
28:47He's holding a bunch of balloons and just being weird.
28:56There's a random clown.
28:58There's a random clown.
29:00Let's take a selfie.
29:05Is it a dad?
29:07Oh, it's a dad.
29:09It's dad.
29:10That is Daniel, our foreman.
29:12It's me.
29:13It's me.
29:14It's me.
29:15It's me.
29:16It's me.
29:17It's me.
29:18It's me.
29:19It's me.
29:20It's me.
29:21It's me.
29:22It's me.
29:23It's me.
29:24It's me.
29:25It's me.
29:26It's me.
29:27Welcome to our Phillip Island friends.
29:28This week's challenge is to plan and host a carnival stall of your choice.
29:32So he announced that there's a challenge on Thursday at the fun fair,
29:35and we have to create a stall.
29:37Alright, see you guys.
29:38That's it?
29:39I'm scared.
29:40Are you actually driving like this?
29:41No, I need a lift.
29:58Ta-da!
29:59Jesus!
30:00Jesus Christ.
30:01What is going on?
30:02Wow.
30:03Woo!
30:04I don't like clowns.
30:05This week's challenge is to plan and host a carnival stall of your choice.
30:10Your beauty!
30:11Just don't scare the kiddies like you just did, mate, rolling in ears.
30:17Me traumatised.
30:19I just don't know how I want this.
30:21We were in the midst of planning.
30:23Ta-da!
30:26And then all of a sudden a clown jumps out of nowhere.
30:29Is that the money?
30:30Is that 5 grand?
30:31Oh, you're Ashley Dan!
30:33I thought you were the...
30:34Oh my God!
30:36Before Maddie and Charlotte can think about the challenge...
30:39No, we need to do it.
30:40We need to do it.
30:41We need to do it.
30:42We need to do it.
30:43We need to do it.
30:44We need to do it.
30:45We need to do it.
30:46We need to do it.
30:48No, we have been talking about the bunk bed scenario, though.
30:51I'll leave it to you, mate.
30:53They need to lock in the design for their bunk beds,
30:56which was knocked back this morning due to the top bunk being too high.
31:00The new version is just lower and it has a wardrobe behind still.
31:06Yeah, not going to get knocked down.
31:08We're just going to keep rolling with the punches
31:10and hopefully it will pull through.
31:13In order to lock in the new lower bunk idea,
31:15Charlotte needs to sign off from Kingsman
31:17that they can make a shorter wardrobe to fit under the bed.
31:21I've got your plan.
31:23What height do you want to try and reduce the tube?
31:26We're going to try and go for 1.8,
31:29but it might have to go down to 1.6, so under that.
31:32From our perspective, it's not going to happen.
31:36If you reduce that hanging space,
31:38then you can't physically hang anything in there.
31:42Have you got another wall you can put them on?
31:44No.
31:46That's our problem.
31:49Sorry.
31:50OK, thanks. Bye.
31:52Don't worry.
31:54There was just a million things that were like,
31:56you can't do this, you can't do that.
31:59So then we're like, OK, what can we do?
32:04Oh!
32:12In house one...
32:14Um, they can't cut down the wardrobes.
32:17What?!
32:19..the sisters are yet to lock in a room design
32:21for their mezzanine bedroom.
32:23OK, I really need to go.
32:25But they have to drive to Melbourne,
32:27as tonight is their joint winner's dinner.
32:29Jeez, we've got stooge, though.
32:31Leaving the builders without a signed-off plan for the bedroom.
32:35Ooh, X-Men. Let's go.
32:39If you can sort the climate out, I'd appreciate that.
32:41Yeah, I'll do that.
32:42You just focus on the road.
32:44Yeah, that's what I focus on best.
32:46Ricky and I had some bonding time.
32:49So have you got a partner in Sydney, back home?
32:53No, I do not have a partner.
32:55Single little Pringle.
32:57Single Pringle?
32:58Single Pringle.
32:59Have you got a little partner back at home?
33:01Er, nah, not really.
33:04Not really? That's not convincing.
33:07Drive was good on the way there.
33:09I drove our Everest and had a good chat with Maddie.
33:13No-one has asked us anything about us.
33:15Yeah.
33:16Nothing.
33:17And I find it actually very interesting.
33:19I haven't spent a lot of time with her,
33:20so trying to break down those barriers.
33:22Everyone was like,
33:23er, who are these people coming into the show?
33:25Oh, I'm sure they were.
33:26Who are these people coming into, like, you know...
33:28It's a hard position for us because...
33:29It would have been hard for you.
33:30Oh, so hard.
33:31And I'm still, like, suffering the consequences of that.
33:33Like, in terms of, like, you know,
33:35you guys have that close connection.
33:37Yeah, that would be tough.
33:38And you have that friendship and, you know, you've bonded.
33:40Maddie and Charlotte came on the show
33:42and said that they were accountants.
33:44They've obviously got a little bit more experience
33:46than just being an accountant.
33:47Like, I'm not going to walk into a competition and go,
33:49hey, everyone, I'm new here,
33:50I know you've all been working for, like, four weeks
33:52and you must be exhausted, but just let...
33:54Letting you know.
33:55Letting you know.
33:56I actually have an investment property,
33:57and I'm new to Charlotte,
33:58and we've actually also both sold a property.
34:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:01Like, um, hi, everyone.
34:03Like, we're also very young, so we haven't, like...
34:05Yeah.
34:06I just left uni, you know?
34:08You've done a lot for what you've, um...
34:10how many years you've been on the air for.
34:12Yeah.
34:13Seriously.
34:14We had a good chat.
34:18Because we came last, we had to host dinner again.
34:21Because we hosted last week too,
34:22because we came last last week as well.
34:24Cooking again.
34:26I didn't.
34:27Yeah, we did.
34:30It was living dining, we came last.
34:33Did we?
34:34Yes.
34:35Oh, wow.
34:37On the menu, we had pork and fennel meatballs with mash.
34:40Where's pork?
34:49Delicious.
34:57Oh, it's pretty fancy here.
35:02Oh, mate.
35:03Scotty!
35:04Come on in.
35:05Hello.
35:06Hello.
35:07Here we go.
35:08This is a bit fancy.
35:09This is the fanciest joint in Melbourne.
35:11How have you guys been getting on, House 1 and 3?
35:14Pretty good.
35:15Good.
35:16Opposite ends of the blockmates are getting along well.
35:18Yeah.
35:19Knock, knock.
35:20Hello.
35:21Welcome to another Chumps Dinner.
35:24Welcome to another Chumps Dinner.
35:26Oh, look at you.
35:27You've been hard working.
35:29We got beans and mashed potatoes.
35:33We're at a hatted restaurant.
35:34It's Middle Eastern.
35:36Love that.
35:37A little bit dry, but...
35:40One of those ones.
35:41Excellent.
35:42It's like I'm in prison.
35:45We are in prison, sort of.
35:50That this restaurant suits to a T.
35:53Block winners 2022, Omar and Oz!
35:57Let's go!
35:58Woo-hoo!
35:59Go team!
36:03Here they are.
36:06What's up, buddy?
36:07How are you?
36:08Hey, mate.
36:09How are you doing, Richie?
36:10Hey, Charlotte.
36:11Nice to meet you.
36:12We met Omar and Oz, so that was cool to see them.
36:16Look what's happening, guys.
36:18It's all happening, mate.
36:19Fresh prints.
36:20Yeah, man.
36:21Fresh prints.
36:22Yeah, we're bringing it back, brother.
36:24How good.
36:25Yeah, man.
36:26We even compared ourselves to guys like Omar
36:28coming onto the block.
36:29Best mates, here for a good time
36:31and to enjoy the journey and also play the game.
36:35Hi!
36:36Hello!
36:38How are you guys?
36:39How are you guys?
36:41How are you guys?
36:42Yeah, it was.
36:43Would you like a beer?
36:44Sorry, yes, I would love a beer.
36:46What did you get?
36:47Everything.
36:48Everything.
36:49I thought it was a really good dinner, to be honest.
36:51Do a bit of that prison meal.
36:58Oh, wow.
36:59Oh, my goodness.
37:01Ah, here's Shane, owner and chef, Shane D'Elia.
37:04Talk us through it, buddy.
37:06There's a bunch of things on the menu.
37:08Flatbread with za'atar, some roasted capsicums.
37:10The kingfish on the other side's really beautiful.
37:12It's got a spicy sauce on the bottom with a pineapple tabbouleh.
37:15I feel like I'm at home.
37:19Yum, that's good.
37:21Boys, let's get some block advice.
37:23That's what we want.
37:24Well, firstly, you need a lot of this.
37:27Oi!
37:28Well, there you go.
37:29Five grand each from Ford, splitting the winnings.
37:32That's what you need to win, brother.
37:34But ten grand each from Arnott's and Big Vicky's.
37:38Ten thousand bars.
37:39Ah!
37:40Look, I love Tim Tams, but I love this more.
37:42Pass it down.
37:43That's your favourite type of Vicky, thank you.
37:49It was a very interesting morning of walkthroughs.
37:51That's it.
37:52That's it.
37:53That is all I will say.
37:54Yeah.
37:56I don't know what the judges were doing before.
38:00We all had the exact same opinions on everything, basically.
38:03That the winners were undeserving.
38:07Everyone agreed that the judging was not fair.
38:13Yeah, that was BS.
38:15It is what it is, really.
38:16It's ridiculous.
38:17It is what it is.
38:20I see a bit of cheekiness coming in, you guys.
38:22You reckon?
38:23Yeah, man.
38:24We started off pretty rough.
38:27And then you just found your...
38:28Yeah, you found your groove.
38:29Yeah.
38:30Sisters, 22 and 24.
38:32That's young, isn't it?
38:33Very young.
38:34It's a tough experience.
38:35How are you guys coping?
38:36It's been tough.
38:37A few of the teams don't like them.
38:39Yeah, we still don't.
38:40Please, boys.
38:41No, yeah, we still give a hard time.
38:43Oh, that's all right, though.
38:44Standard.
38:45But we'll get there.
38:48They're just young and I just don't really have anything in common with them.
38:51You mean they don't drink.
38:52Exactly.
38:53They don't drink alcohol, they don't drink coffee.
38:55How do you socialise with people like that?
38:57You can't.
38:58To the bottom three!
39:03We're in the bottom together.
39:05I'm nice enough to them.
39:07I just...
39:09I can't have too many friends, okay?
39:14Oh, my God.
39:20The winners have woken up a world away after a night in the city.
39:24Wake me up.
39:27What's hearing it off if you're hanging off the side?
39:30Okay, I think we're making a fool of ourselves in a bestie place.
39:33It's all right, I've been trying to do that with ease.
39:36And they're hitting the road back to reality.
39:39Do you want to order on the MyMackers app so it's nice and quick?
39:42Yep.
39:43I am starving too.
39:45Need a coffee as well.
39:47Got our code?
39:49What was the code?
39:50JS33.
39:51Yeah, was that one for Ricky?
39:53Ah, been called worse, that'll do.
39:55We'll just try everything for you.
39:58Thanks so much.
39:59Cheers.
40:00Have a good one.
40:02Back on the block,
40:04House 2 have woken up with a new perspective on their judges' feedback.
40:08I think initially you get defensive and you're just like,
40:11well that's not right.
40:12But the judges are judges for a reason.
40:14If we can take on bits and pieces of it, then I think it's fine.
40:19Those bits and pieces are to create space for a king bed in their mezzanine bedroom
40:24by moving the wardrobe into the rumpus room and closing it off with a full wall and door.
40:30The way it's sort of been presented to us is that that room would actually form part of your bedroom.
40:34You put your wardrobe out in there and you've created a suite.
40:37House 2's upstairs main suite now feature a sitting area with a wardrobe,
40:41a spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed and their already completed oversized ensuite.
40:47What we'll do is keep that door, built-in cabinetry will go in here as the wardrobe
40:52and make that a bigger master bedroom.
40:56While the girls have been away,
40:59Builderdown has come up with a new plan for the bunk beds pending sign-off.
41:03Okay, show us the plans.
41:05Would have been working on it all this time, you know.
41:07So we have settled with a more simpler version
41:12and we hope it is like nice enough for like a guest retreat but also practical.
41:18The latest version has a double above a queen with a ladder to the left and wardrobe to the right.
41:24We wanted to have like a beautiful retreat where it felt really luxurious
41:27but also it's a holiday house, you want beds, you want it to be practical.
41:30So there's an element of luxe that you kind of miss out on.
41:33There's an element of luxe that you kind of miss out on when you're putting a bunk bed in a room.
41:38We're still waiting for approval about our bunk beds.
41:41So if that goes to plan then I think we can catch up
41:44but if not then we may as well just put a bed in there or a beanbag.
41:51I don't know what I'm doing this week.
41:55We're feeling pretty down about our budget.
41:58Can't even remember if we won because the budget doesn't look like we won anything.
42:03Used everything that I've been provided except for rugs.
42:06Maybe I could just put a room of rugs.
42:08Completely annihilated our budget.
42:10Used it plus some and some and some.
42:14I think everyone's in the same boat.
42:18With two very expensive landscaping weeks fast approaching
42:21one way to make some money is to win the upcoming funfair challenge with a standout stall idea.
42:27See if we can hire a dunk tank because that's within budget.
42:31Coloured balloons and then you have the five house colours.
42:35You pop the balloons and whoever gets a certain amount, that house wins.
42:40We don't have to worry about prizes.
42:42But then why would people come to us unless we're offering prizes?
42:46Mimi's doing a dunk tank.
42:48A what?
42:49A dunk tank.
42:50A what?
42:51Dunk tank.
42:53But it's freezing.
42:55You're going to give the kids pneumonia.
42:57Not the kids, they're throwing and then I'm getting people.
43:00Like, would you like to participate?
43:03Would it be hot water or cold water?
43:05It would be ice water.
43:06Ice water?
43:07Definitely not.
43:14What are you doing?
43:16You want to bring bags of insulation up for me to put in the roof?
43:20I guess the turnaround for me was you just have to snap out of it and know the reason why we're here.
43:27And we're here because we're trying to make a better life for ourselves and our kids.
43:33So with our bedroom upstairs, we have a massive window that overlooks the community pool.
43:39So I thought we'd build like a day bed.
43:42We've got a long, tall cupboard next to it.
43:45And we're going to do a really bold, striped Grafico wall.
43:51Brad didn't like the idea of it because we're limiting cupboard space.
43:54Like, I like the idea of it, but we're going to get hammered for no storage.
43:59So then I came up with the brilliant idea that I'll just find like a dresser or something that you can put the rest of your stuff in.
44:06What are we looking for?
44:07A chest of drawers, you reckon?
44:08Chest of drawers.
44:12Oh, you think I haven't Googled it?
44:13Oh no, you're on Facebook.
44:14Here we go.
44:15No.
44:18Oh, the purple one.
44:19There we go.
44:20Perfect.
44:22I will get to the end, one way or another.
44:37In the history of the block, contestants have faced many worthy adversaries.
44:42Right.
44:44Are we close, Art?
44:45I don't think so.
44:47Art, perhaps not as difficult to conquer as the Australian standards for bunk beds.
44:52It's pretty stringent, all the things it says you've got to go through in there to make that compliant.
44:57Yeah, yeah.
44:58So I don't, I personally don't see how that can happen.
45:02What's in the book is the testing that needs to be done, the physics, how wide does the ladder have to be,
45:09what kind of ladder is it, what kind of railing has to be on it.
45:12It's pretty stringent, all the things it says you've got to go through in there to make that compliant.
45:17I don't feel confident in putting my name to it.
45:20I've got so much to do than sit here and read 42 pages of Australian standards on bunk beds.
45:24Yeah, I understand that.
45:25I've built houses on bunk beds.
45:27Yeah, yeah.
45:28Aidan was pretty hesitant to put his name towards any kind of structure that was built him.
45:34So there's no way in any kind of orientation that you could really do a built-in bunk on the block because...
45:39The way I'm reading him is there's no way you're building a bed above you.
45:45Right.
45:46Yeah, that's a little bit stressful and I think we begin to start feeling it and be like,
45:52okay, like maybe this is a bad idea, how far do you push this?
45:56Art the Girl's builder, Dan, has come up with a solution.
46:00So my father-in-law is an engineer.
46:04He can certify it.
46:05I've just got to give him this book.
46:07What, does that mean that his name goes on it forever if something happens?
46:09Well, he'll certify the bunk bed, that it complies.
46:13But you can't actually certify bunk beds.
46:15Like, it's the hardest thing to find in Australia.
46:17He needs to read this tonight and then...
46:19Get some light reading through.
46:20Yeah, he'll love it.
46:21Dan's favourite line was like, we may have lost the battle, but we will win the war.
46:27Tell us your favourite people.
46:29Now and the hour.
46:30Howdy.
46:31How you going?
46:32Alright.
46:33Are you thrilled to see us?
46:34It depends what you're going to say.
46:35We're not going to say those words.
46:37No, we just want to ask a question.
46:40I can get an engineer to certify the construction of it.
46:45Right.
46:46Obviously, you've got to approve of all this stuff.
46:48So I've sent him a couple of pages.
46:50Do you want anything to drink?
46:51Yeah, can we have a cup of tea?
46:52I've sent him a couple of pages.
46:53Do you want some tea?
46:54I need something stronger.
46:55I've sent him a couple of pages of it all.
46:56So he hasn't got the full context of his idea yet.
46:58So if I can borrow this tonight, that would be really great.
47:00Sure.
47:01So I'm pretty much saying we're going to get a structural engineer to certify that last design and tick off all the stuff.
47:07We don't have to go back to...
47:09I think that will put us in a much better position.
47:11Okay.
47:14I appreciate your time.
47:15Thanks, guys.
47:17It's tools down on another day on the block.
47:20The mezzanine bedrooms are really starting to take shape.
47:24Except for house one, because they don't have a locked-off design yet.
47:29We don't have a concrete plan at all, and it's just messy.
47:32And, like, I can't order my artwork unless I know what we're doing.
47:35I can't order the beds, the bedside tables.
47:37Like, the wardrobe people are being like, where are you putting your wardrobes?
47:40I'm like, I don't know.
47:41So it's just all over the shop.
47:45In just over two and a half weeks, these five houses will be complete,
47:50just so long as everyone can afford to finish them.
47:53Budgets are running dangerously close to empty.
47:56Ah, evening.
47:57Evening.
47:58Evening.
47:59So I'm offering a life raft.
48:01Sorry to take you away from the job, but an important announcement to make.
48:05Over the last couple of months, Jo from finance here
48:08has been keeping a very tight eye on your budget.
48:12And she's been tracking them by tracking your spending on Xero.
48:16It's not about how much you spend,
48:18it's more about how well you spend
48:20and whether you're paying your bills on time.
48:23So, Jo, without naming names, how are they going?
48:29I'm happy to say that the majority of them are actually pretty on top of it.
48:35It's your lucky day,
48:36because Jo and I are going to forget all your past mistakes
48:40and we're going to give you a fresh start.
48:42And this time next week, Jo is going to check out your budget
48:45and your spending and see how well you're doing.
48:47The team that does the best,
48:49paying their bills and all that sort of thing,
48:51will win...
48:56..their Xero Hero medal.
48:59And they also come with something else, Jo.
49:01Yes.
49:02$10,000 cash from Xero.
49:06So there's two Xero medallions up for grabs,
49:09as well as a $10,000 prize.
49:11There you go.
49:12There's an incentive to do beautiful business for a week.
49:15$10,000 would be amazing for us right now,
49:17considering we haven't won...
49:20..we need money.
49:21OK, that's it. See you later. Thank you.
49:23Thank you. Thank you, Jo.
49:31I said from the start, $250,000 was not enough to do these houses.
49:36Pond Bank's total budget. Yeah.
49:38Need a lot more money than that.
49:41The only way to finish is to win.
49:43The thing is, this is not enough to build that beautiful house.
49:46No way, Jo. You know that. We've got to win.
49:48Challenges, room wins, all that sort of jazz.
49:51And tomorrow night, that becomes oh-so very clear.
49:54There's only that amount of money left,
49:56and when you get to it, you're at it.
49:58We need to win the challenge.
50:00Your challenge today is to create your very own funfair stall.
50:05Of course, the team that does the best job will win...
50:09..$10,000.
50:11With some budgets running on empty...
50:13We're 10 grand behind. Front yard right now.
50:15We've got a front yard.
50:17..others are cashed up...
50:1965K week last week, that's put us in a very, very good spot.
50:24..so winning is no longer a bonus.
50:26Yeah.
50:28So a win this week is, like, imperative. Yeah.
