09 September - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hello, low pressure will bring further heavy showers and some thunderstorms during the
00:05evening, with some more prolonged rain in places as well. The main areas for concern
00:09through the evening and overnight are southern Scotland where some prolonged and heavy rain
00:14in places will bring the risk of travel disruption and localised flooding, that then pushing
00:18into Northern Ireland, and the far south east where continued heavy showers and thunderstorms
00:23could also cause some issues. But eventually overnight the showers for many will ease,
00:29although it will stay damp across central and southern and eastern Scotland, parts of
00:33Northern Ireland, and showers will continue to push into Wales and the south west. Clear
00:38spells elsewhere, but not a fresh night, by any means temperatures will hold up at around
00:4314 or 15 Celsius in many places, and there will be some brighter skies around first thing
00:49Friday across central and southern parts of the country, but more especially northern
00:53and western Scotland where it is going to be a mostly fine day. Outbreaks of rain or
00:58showers continuing elsewhere, the rain again prolonged across eastern and southern Scotland,
01:04the north of England with a brisk breeze from the North Sea making it feel on the cool side.
01:08A few showers breaking out in the south as well, once again these could be heavy in places
01:14and a brisk breeze will make it feel cool towards the south west. 18 to 21 Celsius fairly
01:20widely. Now the drier and clearer weather towards the north west of Scotland and Northern
01:25Ireland will eventually affect other western parts of the UK during Friday night, but a
01:32few more showers will run into the North Sea coast and that more persistent damp weather
01:36will continue to affect south east Scotland as well as north east England. But temperatures
01:42dropping a bit further I think by Saturday dawn with a notable cool spot there for northern
01:48Scotland, single figures here fairly widely, perhaps a few mist and fog patches first thing
01:52Saturday. Once they disappear, sunny spells for northern Scotland, western Scotland and
01:59eventually for much of the UK, it's a drier and brighter day compared with the last few
02:05days. But there will still be scope for a few showers developing especially across parts
02:09of north west England into the midlands, east Anglia and the south east. There will be fewer
02:14and further between compared with recent showers and there will be some brighter spells in
02:18between them as well. So all in all, Saturday looks like a drier and brighter day and it
02:24will feel a bit more pleasant with the wind easing and temperatures reaching the low 20s.
02:30Sunday starts off mostly dry with some sunshine early on. I think the cloud will build in
02:35the north west and there will be some rain arriving later.
