22 September - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, a three-way split across the UK as far as Thursday's weather is concerned.
00:06We're going to see warm conditions in the south, brighter conditions in the far north
00:10whilst outbreaks of rain intersect the country across primarily southern Scotland, northern
00:16England and parts of Wales. That rain, heavy at times especially for the higher parts of
00:21northern England and into north Wales and it's only slow to clear from southern and
00:27southeastern Scotland during the afternoon. But brighter skies for the north-west of
00:32Scotland, for Northern Ireland as well, one or two showers here along with a keen breeze,
00:3715 or 16 degrees. It's meanwhile fairly warm to the south-east with a lot of cloud but
00:44some brighter interludes and temperatures getting up into the low 20s in places. Fairly
00:50breezy along this band of rain and the rain will sink south during the evening so turning
00:56damp for a time across the Midlands, south-west England, south Wales before the rain then
01:00moves into the south-east by the end of the night. Clearer skies follow for Scotland,
01:06Northern Ireland, northern England and eventually parts of Wales and the Midlands and under
01:10those clear skies it will be a cooler night with one or two fog patches forming but a
01:16fair breeze there for the north-west of Scotland along with some scattered showers so staying
01:22fog free here. Meanwhile it's mild where we've got the cloud and the rain to the south
01:27and south-east. The rain turning more showery as we start off Friday but there will be some
01:33heavy showers around and I think for the south-east that rain never far away. It could turn heavy
01:40and steady for a time for parts of Sussex into Kent as well through the middle part
01:45of the day. Brighter skies for many though compared with Thursday. Scattered showers
01:50developing for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern and western England and
01:54it's going to be feeling quite fresh I think. Most places not seeing 20 degrees I think
01:59it will be more likely 15 to 18 fairly widely. Then heading into Friday night that area of
02:05rain it's going to stay close to the south-east and it will pep up at times perhaps some heavy
02:12downpours for parts of Kent in particular but for many other places it's clear spells
02:18through the night and further showers around some eastern and western as well as northern
02:23coasts. But under the clear skies in between it's going to be a fresh start to the weekend
02:28because behind this cold front we've got cooler air spreading in but we've also got an area
02:33of high pressure developing and that high pressure will keep things mostly dry and bright
02:38however this front could be slow to clear the far south-east. Then into Sunday a band
02:44of wet and windy weather spread southwards across many parts of the UK turning things
02:49colder for the start of next week. It will certainly feel more autumnal.
