Transcript
00:00Welcome to your national weather update.
00:02Plenty going on over the next few days.
00:04Make sure you stay up to date with the forecast.
00:07There are warnings in place.
00:09We start with one overnight tonight
00:11as the rain returns to Western Scotland.
00:13It's been a fairly soggy day.
00:14Rain easing for a time, but more rain
00:16coming in through the early hours could cause some problems.
00:18Certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads.
00:21Rain will also return across Northern Ireland,
00:23staying quite windy here.
00:24In fact, the breeze picking up everywhere,
00:26but staying fairly light across East Anglia and the southeast.
00:29Maybe a little bit of drizzle here and there in the south.
00:31But for most of England and Wales,
00:33it's a dry night, a fairly cloudy night, and a pretty
00:35mild night as well, with temperatures in some towns
00:38and cities remaining in the teens.
00:41On to Tuesday's details.
00:42And, well, we start pretty wet across Scotland.
00:44But quite quickly, that rain should
00:46start to clear from the west.
00:48A soggy morning, perhaps, through the central belt
00:50and for Belfast.
00:51But the rain edging away here, too.
00:53And then lingering through the day
00:54across much of West Wales.
00:56And rain also fairly persistent coming afternoon
00:58across northwest England.
01:00Trickling towards the Midlands, some
01:02getting to the east of the Pennines
01:03and northern parts of Devon and Cornwall as well.
01:06But East Anglia, the southeast, probably
01:08staying dry and reasonably bright.
01:10And it's pretty mild here, actually.
01:12Temperatures likely to get to 19, perhaps
01:14even 20 degrees Celsius.
01:16Brighter skies come the afternoon
01:18across northern Scotland, but staying fairly blustery.
01:20Temperatures for many in the mid-teens.
01:23But obviously feeling cooler than Monday
01:24through this central slice with the outbreaks of rain,
01:27which will continue into Tuesday evening.
01:30Pushing south, but then grinding to a halt.
01:32And actually, that rain then starts
01:34to push back further north as we head through Tuesday evening.
01:37Some heavy rain out west.
01:39This is a circulation.
01:40This is a developing area of low pressure.
01:44That's why it's going to get so windy on Tuesday
01:46night and Wednesday.
01:47It's been picked up and intensified by the jet stream.
01:50A bit of uncertainty about its exact track.
01:52And that will have an impact on where the strongest winds are
01:55and exactly how strong those winds are.
01:57But it's been a blustery day everywhere on Wednesday.
02:00And that low will also take heavy rain
02:02across Scotland, a band of rain sweeping
02:04across England and Wales.
02:05But those winds, as I said, a cause for concern.
02:08A large yellow warning area in place
02:11at the moment for Wednesday.
02:12Gusts of 55 to 65 miles an hour.
02:15That's the most likely scenario.
02:17But there is a chance that that low is a bit more intense
02:20and brings a smaller swathe of gusts of wind
02:22of 70 to 80 miles an hour.
02:24It could cause some more serious disruption.
02:27So that's why I say stay up to date with the forecast
02:30and the weather warnings, which, of course,
02:32you can always see on our app and on our website.
02:35Here's the chart for Wednesday.
02:36As I say, there's a bit of question mark
02:38about exactly where that track of that low goes.
02:41But heavy rain is likely across Scotland.
02:43There's that band of rain swinging
02:44across England and Wales.
02:45But it should zip through fairly smartly
02:48because of the strength of the wind.
02:49And then we'll have sunny spells following on for most
02:52come Wednesday, but also a whole raft of blustery showers
02:55packing in on those gusty, gusty winds.
02:58Temperatures, again, for a time, at least getting
03:01into the mid or even high teens, but feeling cooler
03:03with those blustery conditions.
03:05Staying fairly gusty through the rest of this week as well.
03:09For more information on that, you
03:10can watch our week ahead forecast on YouTube.
03:13And of course, as I said, check out those weather warnings
03:16that are on our app and on our website.
