1 February - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Welcome along to the latest national weather updates from the Met Office.
00:03Storm Corrie continues to clear away and the winds easing down but they will pick
00:08up again during Tuesday. Outbreaks of rain trickling into Scotland, Northern
00:13Ireland, Northern England through Monday evening and spreading south into parts
00:17of Wales and the Midlands as well. That wet weather particularly heavy but
00:21accompanied by a low cloud, mist and also some milder air. So although
00:26temperatures at least for a time through Monday evening could get close to
00:29freezing across the far northeast, for most by morning we are well above
00:34freezing, those temperatures ticking back up to 8 or 9 Celsius. On to the
00:39details for Tuesday and it's quite a grey day for England and Wales with
00:43outbreaks of rain across the northwest, some brighter skies across Scotland, some
00:47sunshine coming through. Now it is going to be windy across the northeast, gusts
00:51of 50 miles an hour over the mainland, maybe a little bit more than that across
00:54the far northeast and of course because of those recent storms there is
00:58potential for further disruption. So we do have a yellow warning in place across
01:02the northeast of Scotland. Elsewhere a breezy day with a lot of clouds, say rain
01:07at times over the Midlands, Wales, Northern Ireland and northwest England
01:11but some brighter spells developing as well and it will be mild. We start at 7, 8, 9
01:16we end up 10, 11, 12 maybe 13 in a few places where we see some sunny spells.
01:22But it will still be windy and feeling colder than that with those strong winds
01:26across the northeast which ease down again during Tuesday evening. We keep a
01:30lot of cloud and patchy rain through the evening across the northwest and that
01:34will pep up a little bit as we head into Wednesday. So again northwest England,
01:38Northern Ireland, western Scotland seeing a little bit of rain, northeast Scotland
01:43seeing some sunny spells and it won't be as windy here on Wednesday either. Should
01:47see some breaks in the cloud developing further south as well so a hint or two
01:51of sunshine and certainly much of the south will be dry again on Wednesday. As
01:56I said the winds will be lighter as well and temperatures again with that warm
02:00front moving in bringing that warmer air double digits 10, 11 maybe 12 in one or
02:06two places. That warmer air tied into that warm front will stick around through
02:11Wednesday night and into Thursday too but its counterpart this cold front
02:16looks like being pretty active and it will swing across the country later
02:21Thursday overnight into Friday bringing a band of heavy rain as it does so and
02:25then look at that sweeping away the mild air and bringing something a little
02:29colder on Friday but it's not expected to last too long as milder air could
02:35well return for the weekend. Full details on that with our week ahead forecast if
