00:00Welcome to your national weather update from the Met Office.
00:03After the extreme heat came a few thunderstorms rumbling on through Wednesday evening.
00:09The Met Office do have a yellow warning in place.
00:11Not everywhere in this yellow warning area is going to see the downpours.
00:14Many areas won't see them and just stay dry.
00:17But where the thunderstorms are breaking out and dropping a lot of rain in a short space of time,
00:22that could cause a few issues.
00:24Some disruption is possible.
00:26Those thundery showers will steadily fade as we go through the early hours.
00:30So most places becoming dry as we head into Thursday.
00:33A much more comfortable night compared to recent nights.
00:36Still temperatures holding in the mid-teens across parts of eastern England,
00:39but generally a fresher start to Thursday.
00:42Fairly cloudy start still.
00:44Maybe one or two of those showers across parts of the east at first.
00:47And we'll see maybe a few more breaking out through the day.
00:50Certainly across parts of northwest England, a chance of some showers by the afternoon.
00:54But not as intense as the downpours that we've seen through Wednesday afternoon.
00:59And the vast majority will just stay dry.
01:01Yes, fairly cloudy skies.
01:02We should see some brightness breaking through.
01:04Sunny spells for Wales, southwest England and across the north and the west of Scotland,
01:09along with Northern Ireland.
01:10In the sunny spells, feeling quite pleasant.
01:12Temperatures very close to average.
01:14High teens, low 20s across the north, maybe mid 20s further south.
01:18But certainly an awful lot cooler than at the start of the week.
01:22And that will lead into a reasonably cool night on Thursday night and into Friday.
01:26Just maybe a few more showers through the evening across northwest England.
01:29And we'll see a few more developing, I suspect, as we head into Friday.
01:33Friday is a day for watching more showers pushing steadily northwards.
01:38Parts of north Wales, northwest England, southern Scotland.
01:41And there is the threat of some heavy thundery showers drifting up from the south
01:47as we go through Friday afternoon.
01:49Hit and miss affairs again, but potentially dropping a lot of rain.
01:53Some quite intense downpours and thunderstorms are possible on Friday.
01:57We'll foam upon the details on that over the next 12 to 24 hours.
02:01It will be ticking up temperature wise across the south as well, back into the mid 20s more widely.
02:07But with a lot of cloud further north again, we're mostly only into the high teens again.
02:13As we head into Friday night, still a few of those heavy showers,
02:16the potential for some thunderstorms across the south.
02:18High pressure is trying to build in.
02:21But the main change comes as we go through the second half of the weekend
02:25with the Atlantic and low pressure systems, weather fronts and tighter isobars
02:30having more of an influence, bringing cooler, fresher and wetter weather
02:35to at least the north and the west of the UK.
02:38But high pressure holding on further south.
02:40And that will allow us to see the temperatures going back up across parts of the south on Sunday.
02:46Quite a contrast on Sunday between some very warm conditions across the southeast
02:50and wetter and cooler conditions across the northwest.
02:53There's more on that in our 10 day trend forecast.
02:56You can catch that on Facebook and on YouTube.
