24 Apr - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello again. The remarkably dry April weather continues this weekend and it will be mostly
00:06sunny but not entirely sunny. By Sunday I think there will be a bit more cloud. High
00:11pressure keeping weather systems away from the time being. For most, well close to that
00:15high, light winds, loosely packed isobars but closely packed isobars for the southwest
00:22so it will continue to be breezy here. A gusty wind tonight especially for the moors and
00:27to the west of the moors 40, perhaps 45 mph wind gusts. Elsewhere, light winds, clear
00:33skies and that means temperatures will again fall away. I think for most those temperatures
00:37dropping 1 to 4 degrees but just below freezing in some sheltered spots. So a touch of frost
00:45as we begin the weekend. For most it's a dry and sunny start but for eastern parts of Scotland,
00:51some higher parts of Scotland as well, some eastern areas of northern England, perhaps
00:55a few spots in the east of England. It looks like there will be some low cloud and some
01:00mist to begin things. That will soon lift, retreat to coasts and then it's a day of long
01:06spells of sunshine once again. There will be thicker cloud through the day for the northern
01:11isles and perhaps a few light showers for Shetland but that's the main exception. For
01:16the vast majority it's dry and sunny. A bit of a breeze there coming in from the east.
01:21That will make it feel much cooler in the east compared to the west and in the sunshine
01:26in the west it will feel warm, 18 or 19 Celsius. High UV levels in the south whether you've
01:31got that cool wind or not. Clear skies remain on Saturday night for most but some cloud
01:39will topple into north east Scotland and it will push into say the Pennines and perhaps
01:44drift into parts of east Wales and the Midlands where we've got the cloud of course it will
01:50stay frost free and temperatures on the whole on Sunday are looking a little bit less cold
01:56compared to Saturday morning looking like 2 to 5 degrees. So again a frost fairly marginal
02:02but there will be a touch of frost here and there as we start off Sunday. A dry and bright
02:06start for many but cloudier skies on the whole for north sea coast and you can see how this
02:11easterly breeze pulls in the cloud across central areas into Sunday afternoon. So a
02:17cloudier day to come for Scotland, for northern and central and eastern England but the further
02:23west you are the better chance it will stay sunny through Sunday. That breeze coming from
02:30the east will make it feel cooler especially along the east coast and for parts of south
02:36east England where temperatures will be about 10 to 14 Celsius. Further west it stays warm
02:43in the sunshine. High pressure remains close by in the south on Monday but an area of low
02:49pressure moves into Scotland. This will bring rain or showers to Scotland, the wettest weather
02:55in the north east of Scotland. Elsewhere generally showery kind of rain and then this low pulls
03:01south during Tuesday and Wednesday but by then it breaks up into scattered showers.
03:06So rainfall next week continues to be very hit and miss. There will be some but not a
03:11huge amount. Follow us on social media of course and we will keep you updated with all
03:15the very latest. Bye bye.
