24 August - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hello. A hot and humid day towards the south-east with sunny skies, whilst fresher air already
00:06in the north-west will eventually make its way south-eastwards during the next 24 hours.
00:11The dividing line? A weather front which brings an area of cloud, some outbreaks of rain,
00:16but actually that rain petering out during the afternoon for northern and western England
00:20and Wales before it starts to pep up again for parts of Cornwall and south-west Wales
00:25by the end of the afternoon. To the far north of England, Scotland, Northern
00:29Ireland, already in the fresher air here, mid to high teens, low twenties, scattered
00:34showers but also some brighter spells, but it's hot and sunny towards east Anglia and
00:39the south-east, 30, 31 Celsius and it's going to feel humid as well. Now that humidity later
00:46in the evening could spark the odd shower for parts of east Anglia and the south-east
00:51and there'll also be further showers or outbreaks of rain in the cloudier zone straddling central
00:55parts but that tends to fade away through the night. The cloud edges south-eastwards,
01:01clear spells for Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of England as well as west Wales
01:05and a fairly fresh night to come here, low teens or even into the single figures in some
01:11shelter spots but it's a warm night towards the south-east, 18, 19, in the far south-east
01:1720 or 21 Celsius possible and by dawn the threat of some thundery rain pushing its way
01:25north across the south-east corner ahead of the cold front which is sweeping its way south-eastwards.
01:31That cold front allows much fresher air to arrive and a return to fairly average temperatures
01:38by the end of the week but initially some heavy rain for east Anglia and the south-east
01:43could be some tricky driving conditions first thing, of course we need the rain but eventually
01:48it clears off and by the end of the afternoon most places are turning drier and eventually
01:53brighter. Sunny skies return for west parts of England as well as Wales, scattered showers
01:59for western Scotland and Northern Ireland, a keen breeze here, 16 Celsius in the far
02:03north-west and it's a cooler day for many with temperatures up into the mid-twenties
02:09for the south-east rather than the low thirties. It's going to be feeling less humid as well
02:15and by the evening, well, eventually the clearer skies push in to the south-east as well and
02:21then although there'll still be some showers across many parts of the UK as we end the
02:26week eventually higher pressure is arriving for the weekend so it's looking drier, warmer
02:31and sunnier.
