00:00Thursday is the first day of meteorological winter and certainly there
00:04is a mix of cold air, cloud, frost, fog, also some rain and a bit of a breeze so
00:11a bit of everything in the forecast for the next 24 hours. First of all though
00:15let's have a look at Wednesday evening. This band of rain extends from Northern
00:19Ireland and Scotland further east. It's mostly light and patchy but we could see
00:24some persistent bursts across upslopes towards the west. Further south it's a
00:29very different story. Some clearer skies across central and southern parts of
00:32England and Wales allowing for a frost as well as fog. This fog could be dense,
00:37stubborn and fairly widespread as we enter Thursday. So first thing on
00:42Thursday morning, cold towards the south. Watch out for that frost. Further north
00:46it's cloudy and also rather damp. The rain clears Northern Ireland through the
00:51morning. You see it becomes confined to Aberdeenshire down towards Northumberland.
00:55Further south we could see one or two fog patches lingering in to lunchtime
00:59but some brighter skies emerging West Wales as well as the West Country. We
01:03could even see some brighter weather just coming through for Northern Ireland,
01:06South West Scotland through the day. Elsewhere you can see this more stubborn
01:10cloud across the North Midlands, Northern England with the rain just becoming
01:14confined to the far east of England as well as Scotland and certainly more of a
01:18breeze and some outbreaks of rain to end the day for Shetland as well as Orkney.
01:22Temperatures then will struggle wherever you are but slightly milder across the
01:25extreme west with that breeze temperatures here around 10-11 degrees
01:29Celsius. Now here's your outlook through Friday. Spot the difference to be honest.
01:33Could see some rain across the Northern Isles and the Western Isles. Elsewhere
01:36it's mostly dry where the cloud is thick enough the odd spot or two of rain and
01:40just watch out for some fog where you see clear skies overnight. Then this
01:44invasion of cold air from the near continent. The winds pick up some
01:47strength into the weekend so expect a fairly significant wind chill through
01:51Saturday and into Sunday and that wind also delivering some showers so
01:55certainly cold for the weekend. Perhaps one or two brightest spots possible
02:00towards more western areas in shelter but at the same time rain just comes and
02:05goes across the far northwest. So again a bit of everything into the weekend but
02:09one thing's for sure you'll have to wrap up warm and I'll see you later. Bye bye.
