00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. A widespread frost and some fog
00:05patches to wake up to on Wednesday. They give way to sunny spells and there will be fewer
00:09showers compared to the last few days. There will still be some showers going through Tuesday
00:15night especially for parts of northern England right through until the early hours and a
00:19legacy of cloud here, some patchy cloud elsewhere and that will complicate things as far as
00:24a frost is concerned. I think a patchy frost through central and northern parts of England
00:29but elsewhere under long clear spells. What a widespread frost. Temperatures as low as
00:34minus three or minus four for parts of Wales into northern Ireland and down to minus six
00:38or minus seven for sheltered glens of Scotland. We've still got the cold air in place across
00:44the UK. That was brought down from the Arctic at the end of last week. It's now lingering
00:50thanks to this area of high pressure but the high pressure means that generally winds at
00:54the surface are light but there is some activity to do with the jet stream, a little filament
00:59there and perhaps amping up the cloud and shower activity for southwestern areas during
01:04Wednesday. That is once we clear any early fog because there will be some fog patches
01:08for southwest England, Wales and northern Ireland. Quite quickly they disappear. The
01:11cloud lifts and it will bubble up once again for many places. A few showers expected towards
01:17southwest Scotland, northwest England as well as northern Ireland but the main shower activity
01:22on Wednesday will be Wales as well as southern and southwest England where again the odd
01:27sharp shower is possible but there will be fewer showers compared to recent days. They'll
01:32be hit and miss even where they do occur. Some places will stay dry and to the north
01:36and the east that's where the longest spells of sunshine are expected and with light winds
01:41despite the cool air in place and that chilly start, well it's going to feel reasonably
01:47warm with the increasing strength of the sun. We're talking about single figures, high single
01:53figures towards the east and around western areas 11 to 13 Celsius. Later on Wednesday
02:01any showers quite quickly die down and the cloud disappears as well so I think more widely
02:07a clear night to come on Wednesday night into Thursday and therefore a more widespread frost
02:14with temperatures perhaps a little lower compared to the previous night. Main towns and cities
02:18again zero to minus two Celsius but in rural parts expected to get down to minus five to
02:25minus eight degrees. A cold start then on Thursday with that widespread frost but widely
02:32sunny skies through much of the morning. Again the cloud will get going, this time in a slightly
02:36different place. We'll see the biggest shower clouds developing across east Anglia and the
02:40southeast. Again these showers will be hit and miss. Further west that's where the longest
02:45spells of sunshine will be and mostly dry under the sunny skies and with light winds
02:52it will feel warm enough. 11 to 13 Celsius fairly widely. I think Northern Ireland the
02:57warm spot on Thursday with highs of 14 Celsius.
